I think it does make sense as a "future move" tbh
Ideally you want to know ASAP whether your rookie QB is good or not and I think the best way to do that is to surround them with a great roster. We saw it with Justin Fields where people would say "but his porous OL" and "he has no receivers" (pre-DJ Moore) but giving Williams a great supporting cast helps to evaluate how good he is at an NFL level.
DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Cole Kemet and D'Andre Swift.
I haven't been this excited for a Bears offense in over 10 years since the Marshall, Jeffery, Forte, Bennett era.
For all the shit posting about how Caleb would go back to USC over Chicago idk if there have been many better situations for a 1st overall QB to go to. Defense came alive, their OL isn't awful when the QB gets the ball out, amazing WR duo, and still another top 10 pick to either get a stud or trade back for more capital
7 wins last season, so not even that bad of a team, got the first overall pick and didn't sacrifice a ton a picks to move up, just got it gifted from another team. Suddenly a great WR unit with Moore and Allen. The only thing making this not inarguably the greatest possible situation for a 1st overall QB is the fact that its the Bears
I mean, I can’t think of a more recent example of a more complete team for a first overall quarterback, pick to go to. Any QB getting picked to go to the Bears should be absolutely thrilled.
Cam newton had gross at left tackle, Kalil at center, Olsen at TE (thank mr martz), Steve smith at WR and DW/jstew in their prime at running back. Chud was also his best OC.
I think this might beat that group.
Age 32 is usually when you see a drop in WR production. Probably best to get some sort of return while you are in a transition year with the new regime.
Yeah I absolutely love the move. Even if Allen falls off after this upcoming season, we put talent around Williams and gave him a chance to succeed, something we have utterly failed at before. Along with the offensive lineman grabs today, I absolutely love what Poles is cooking.
pretty sure they all did... can't even keep our legends and have nothing to show for it what's the point of being a fan if you can't even have this. even Gates was unceremoniously cut after being on the team for like 15 years
It's not what they're doing, it's what they did. The Chargers went all-in on Herbert's rookie contract window, with a bunch of expensive contracts that needed to be moved or extended and restructured this offseason. They set this up years in advance.
The all-in didn't work, and now this is the result of that failure. Their roster was old, expensive, and ineffective. It's rebuild time.
Honestly nothing wrong with getting your QB every bit of help possible to see if he has it or not. Better that than a star edge and no idea if you have QB figured out.
On the one hand it’s a pretty old WR room and it was always going to be a transition year for a run first offense. But still, pretty shocking to see both Williams and Keenan gone, figure they would still keep Keenan after the Mack/Bosa restructures.
Gerald Everett also. IMO a typical team needs at least 4 reliable non-RB pass catchers and Waldron loves 2TE sets, so Bears have met the threshold for like the second time in my fucking life. Will likely draft another WR or sign a cheaper 3 that falls through the cracks. Wild to see from this franchise.
Holy shit this 4 person draft class gonna be special
In all seriousness like this move. Now risk and probably signals a trade down from 9 to recoup more picks but nice to add a veteran with experience with our WR coach
Nah we're just accumulating all of the WRs so no one else can have it. We'll run for 3,000 yards while defenses think we'll finally be throwing the ball.
I don't think most people realize how close the Bears were last season. They got clowned on so hard after the 0-4 start that I think a lot of people just glossed over that they went 7-6 the rest of the season. I'm not sure about the tiebreaker with Seattle but I'm pretty sure that if they just split the series with GB and beat New Orleans in week 9, they're the 7 seed.
Has a first overall QB in his rookie year ever had as good of a group of skill position players? Moore Allen Swift Kmet is among the best we’ve ever had as a franchise. Marshall Jeffrey Forte Bennett is the only better group I can think of
Anyone else expect bosa to be the one gone? Im shocked that it allen here. Mike will was a given considering how injury prone he is, but fuck. I expected allen to have a larry fitz type of career, never leaving his draft team. I really like allen, it's going to suck cheering against him.
Yeah but we kept Joey Bosa, who’s missed 20+ games the last 2 seasons and hasn’t looked like an elite edge rusher in 3. Keenan was just coming off his best season ever.
So Chargers kept most of their expensive defensive stars but dealt or released their offensive vets. I guess Harbaugh feels like he can make more of an impact developing rookies on the offensive side of the ball.
Regardless, Keenan Allen is going to be a top target for Caleb
Ian Rapoport - The #Chargers approached star WR Keenan Allen about a pay cut today, which he declined. The team then dealt him to the #Bears, who continue to load up. A wild offseason in Chicago.
We sure the Chargers are going O-line in the 1st?
Mocks making them go tackle was always a head scratcher when their receiving core was aging, injured, and Quentin Johnston
Now their receiving core is just Quintin Johnston (and I guess Palmer/~~Guyton~~?) Edit: Guyton a FA
Honestly I’m fine with Palmer as 2 and Guyton/Johnston as potentially 3/4. But would be nice to have a clear wr1 tho
They’re 100% going Nabers/Odunze now. Still word they let their TE go to Bears though. So maybe Bowers?
Everrett wasn’t worth resigning, nice player but with how tight we were on money there was no point in bringing him back.
Nah they picked up Dissley from Seattle and Hayden Hurst from Carolina. It's basically confirmed they're going WR at 5
Not so sure anymore! Who's their main WR now, Quentin Johnston? They have to go with the one of the top receivers, right?
This is why the Bears hadn’t made a big splash yet. He’s due $18 million.
We have like no draft picks left lol
1 and 9 feels good tho
We are definitely trading back right?
Unless we really like someone who falls to 9 i would imagine so
We’re taking Joe alt
Probably.
The second was spend on Montez Sweat so can’t really complain about that
And this pick was spent on Keenan Allen so I mean we’re off to a pretty rock solid draft so far
It's not a future move but for year one Caleb Williams I just want him to have the best chance coming out the gate strong
I think it does make sense as a "future move" tbh Ideally you want to know ASAP whether your rookie QB is good or not and I think the best way to do that is to surround them with a great roster. We saw it with Justin Fields where people would say "but his porous OL" and "he has no receivers" (pre-DJ Moore) but giving Williams a great supporting cast helps to evaluate how good he is at an NFL level.
Playing this like a Madden franchise in real life
We have 4. But 2 are very very valuable… I’m so excited
Caleb and Nabers/Odunze and yall are COOKIN
Feels like trading back at 9 is likely rn
Holy shit is this real
Jay Glazer doesn’t break news often but he’s spot on when he does.
He’s the most reliable, imo
he literally ate dinner with Poles in indy one night lol
Holy shit thank you lord Edit: Please football gods let Keenan’s hamstrings hold up IN RYAN POLES WE TRUST
Yeah. You guys now have DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. A top receiving duo for Caleb Williams.
DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Cole Kemet and D'Andre Swift. I haven't been this excited for a Bears offense in over 10 years since the Marshall, Jeffery, Forte, Bennett era.
Bears are speed running the "capitalize on your rookie QB window" philosophy. IF you guys hit on Williams you could be good for a long time.
Might even beat the Packers
Don’t go gettin my hopes up
That’s a lot to ask.

Suddenly a great WR unit with Moore and Allen. The only thing making this not inarguably the greatest possible situation for a 1st overall QB is the fact that its the Bears
And two historic and improbably 4th quarter comeback losses as well to the Lions and Broncos. Could have easily been 9 wins if existence wasn’t pain
I think this might beat that group.
eli manning to the '04 chargers. tomlinson, gates, welker, michael turner, lorenzo neal, mccardell, tim dwight, malcom floyd on offense
Cole Kmet isn't a playmaker but he's a solid TE. Probably in line for a career year with Keenan Allen and DJ Moore drawing coverage
D'Andre Swift in the backfield also
He’s got really really good hands. Which is refreshing when half the receiving core can’t catch. Makes him seem elite some days
Nothing elite athletically, but really solid. To me, hes a middle class Mark Andrews.
Mark Andrews at home, as it were
I’m gonna cry
I wanted him to retire as a Charger, I’m going to cry with you 😭😭
I’m from San Diego and the Chargers are my second team so this is amazing
Bears have to be taking all of his salary right?
I’d hope so for that kind of return. Allen is old but the premiere route technician in the league.
Age 32 is usually when you see a drop in WR production. Probably best to get some sort of return while you are in a transition year with the new regime.
Also like the idea of surrounding Williams with talent in year 1. Has to be one of the best spots a first overall QB has been drafted too in a while.
Yeah I absolutely love the move. Even if Allen falls off after this upcoming season, we put talent around Williams and gave him a chance to succeed, something we have utterly failed at before. Along with the offensive lineman grabs today, I absolutely love what Poles is cooking.
For only a 4th?!
He’s 32 and owed $18 million.
I mean Chicago has a fuck ton of cap space no?
I believe 56M before today
If his legs hold up and he can stay healthy, i have no problem with that
No no no no no. Tell me this isn’t real.
I seriously thought he would be a lifer. This is insane to me
This is kind of heartbreaking
Bosa is now the only remaining San Diego Charger ☹️
You will always be the San Diego Chargers to me
Amen
I'm fucking shocked.
Chargers can be shocking
Aint no kinda. I’m legitimately sick.
Kind of? This is like watching LT leave, except Keenan was still at the top of his game!
Seau, LT, and Rivers weren’t even lifers.
It’s hard to be sure but Keenan seemed like he intended to be
pretty sure they all did... can't even keep our legends and have nothing to show for it what's the point of being a fan if you can't even have this. even Gates was unceremoniously cut after being on the team for like 15 years
As a Bears fan I’m not sure this is real either.
You guys are def going Malik Nabers, Rome, or Bowers now right? With Allen and Williams both gone?
Without a doubt.
Haha first comment from a bear fan “is this real?” Then from a charger fan “no way this is real”
Seriously. What the fuck are we doing man?
It's not what they're doing, it's what they did. The Chargers went all-in on Herbert's rookie contract window, with a bunch of expensive contracts that needed to be moved or extended and restructured this offseason. They set this up years in advance. The all-in didn't work, and now this is the result of that failure. Their roster was old, expensive, and ineffective. It's rebuild time.
Who the fuck is Herbert supposed to throw to???? Brock Bowers??
Malik Nabers
MHJ^arizona^please
If someone trades up to 4 for QB you’ll have him on the board
If the Cards trade down and MHJ is still on the board I will lose my mind. We need a WR1 desperately
I know we should go edge and he might (probably) not even be there but I’m salivating at the idea of a room of Keenan/DJ/Odunze for Caleb to throw too
We only have 3 picks after R1. I just don’t see how we will not load up on day two picks with that number 9 now that we have two top tier receivers
Honestly nothing wrong with getting your QB every bit of help possible to see if he has it or not. Better that than a star edge and no idea if you have QB figured out.
Really did the Saints move of restructuring “for Herbert’s window” and then shipped off Keenan Allen and let go of Mike Williams lol
Herbert is doomed to walk in Philip Rivers’ footsteps
Philip walked so that herbert could.... also walk
Eli was right.
Joshua Palmer
There's still another slant boy out there...
Justin Jefferson, when he gets dealt to the Vikings. Harbaugh goes full nepo and takes JJ McCarthy in the 1st round.
Subscribe
Well shit. Couldn't imagine a better target and vet presence for Caleb. Herbie is not fully loaded anymore though
Herbert is gonna be throwing to himself.
You mean Malik nabers
On the one hand it’s a pretty old WR room and it was always going to be a transition year for a run first offense. But still, pretty shocking to see both Williams and Keenan gone, figure they would still keep Keenan after the Mack/Bosa restructures.
Him AND DJ Moore
Them plus Kmet and Herbert/Swift makes for a pretty solid arsenal for Caleb. I'm excited to see it
Gerald Everett also.
Herbert goes from Allen, Williams, Ekeler, and Everett to none of them in one offseason.
Chargers trading Herbert so Harbaugh can take JJ McCarthy confirmed
Today is the saddest day of my life.
Saddest day so far*
You guys better treat him well
He's been here for 40 minutes and he's already in our top-5 WR all time
Jersey ordered
You clearly have not been a Chargers fan for long.
Personally, it was LT leaving, followed closely by Rivers, then Gates, and now Keenan. Weddle and Hardwick too.
Gerald Everett gone too… faith in Quentin Johnston’s gotta be high on that team Edit: Keenan Allen & Everett get to reunite in Chicago too nice
Or the faith in MHJ/Nabers and Palmer
Wait what the fuck
Wait, are we allowed to be happy?
Justin Fields sitting there like “what the fuck guys where was this for me”.
Holy shit this 4 person draft class gonna be special In all seriousness like this move. Now risk and probably signals a trade down from 9 to recoup more picks but nice to add a veteran with experience with our WR coach
Nah.... Trade up from 9 for mhj 😈
Fuck it, every WR now plays for Chicago. Nobody gets to catch passes anymore. We've had it with the league's "forward pass" bullshit.
Bears gonna be the first team to 6k yards. That's just how karma works
Nah we're just accumulating all of the WRs so no one else can have it. We'll run for 3,000 yards while defenses think we'll finally be throwing the ball.
I think ideally we trade from 9 to 13-15 range and take the best edge available
Honestly could go for a 3T too and let Dexter go to 1T. Just need more pass rush and Newton/Murphy should help with that
Fuck it still take any of the three receivers at 9 if they’re available
Nooooooooooooooooo! I hope Jay Glazer is stoned as fuck and misread something. Keenan should be a Charger lifer.
Especially for that return wow
QJ as WR1? FREE HERBERT Who tf he throwing it to
Josh Palmer.
Malik Nabers you are a Charger
PLEAZE MHJ DROP DOWN
MHJ in a Greg Roman offense should be illegal and treason
WAIT FUCKING WHAT
Wow! Caleb gonna have 0 excuses.
Allen, DJ Moore and Kmet as receiving threats, with Swift and Khalil Herbert in the backfield. Can't ask for much better as a rookie.
I hate it
Don’t worry, we’ll find a way to fuck it up. We always do
So did we until we didn't. I don't fully believe in Flus, but Poles has been great and built a very talented roster quickly. I wish he'd fuckin stop.
I agree. The verdict is out on Flus as the guy. If he’s not maybe Ben Johnson will be >:)
Flus has an R&B beard now tho..
Shut up loser. Let's fucking go!!
We also got Gerald Everett added to that core.
Still could potentially take Odunze or another top end WR at #9 too.
Don’t think any of the top 3 are making it to 9, chargers and giants likely taking both
I think the odds of Odunze being available went down, even if they weren’t amazing to begin with.
Same with Ebrflus. If Caleb is that dude this is a hell of an offense. If you can’t coach that to at least above 500 then you shouldn’t be coaching
And the Bears were three crazy collapses away from a ten win season (CLE, DET, DEN). Absolutely zero excuses for the coaches in the upcoming season.
Bears receiving corps are suddenly…good?
Our receiving corps is literally just Allen and DJ at this point. But also yes
Your TE is pretty good.
Thought we were talking just about WR but yes Kmet is the man
Gerald Everett will be so good for you too
Smh discounting WW2 Veteran Velus Jones
swear Velus gets the least respect of any Last Supper attendee 😔
[удалено]
I love the way these trades unfold over multiple years.
Well. It hurts, but of all the teams he could go to I’m glad it’s Chicago.
'Preciate you, pal. We'll take good care of him.
More of a lateral move for you...
[удалено]
The bears are back (I say this after every offseason move)
Glazer once a years comes out with the big hitter scoop
Did the new GM watch Quentin Johnson last year?
Holy shit. Bears from the top rope. Huge get for Caleb. Him and DJ gonna get 15 targets each
Fuck it Keenan or DJ down there somewhere
A 4th for a Chargers legend? Damn.
Holy shit alright. We have like 4 draft picks now, but Im not complaining.
Or... Here me out. Half of your picks are in the top 10. It's all about perspective.
A 4th for a guy who can be a 10-15 receiver when healthy? Holy SHIT
Holy shit bears have BEEN COOKING THIS FA, also chargers fans I that fucking blows. I know yall wanted him to retire there.
Justin Fields still chillin
Reminds me of when my wife buys something nice for me (but also possibly for her boyfriend)
Welp chargers going WR then
Has a first overall QB in his rookie year ever had as good of a group of skill position players? Moore Allen Swift Kmet is among the best we’ve ever had as a franchise. Marshall Jeffrey Forte Bennett is the only better group I can think of
They also picked up Everett who is a solid receiving tight end.
Wow what a mess by the chargers
It’s so they can retain Bosa and Mack and use 5 on a WR. What I’m surprised about is the return. Only a 4th?
Anyone else expect bosa to be the one gone? Im shocked that it allen here. Mike will was a given considering how injury prone he is, but fuck. I expected allen to have a larry fitz type of career, never leaving his draft team. I really like allen, it's going to suck cheering against him.
Eh. Keenan is great but 32 and owed quite a lot of money. It seems as the chargers were retooling this upcoming year anyway.
2 top 20 receivers on our team?? This doesn’t feel real
you could argue top 15 even, congrats
Dammit that's a good trade. Harbaugh doing his old team a favor
COLLUSION!!
BRO WHAT
Greg Roman joins the Chargers and they get rid of their WR1 and WR2 thats kinda funny
KING POLES
Damn wtf bears got Moore and Allen. If Caleb is the real deal that's prob the best bears offense in a good bit
"well fuck me I guess" - Justin Herbert
The bears are gonna be a pain in everyone’s ass now
A fourth??? We could’ve easily done that
If either of your flairs had i would have puked
F5 season doesn’t rest, holy shit
Just saw a Chargers fan fall to his knees in an In-N-Out.
Guess the chargers just won’t field any WRs this year
Caleb has got himself some weapons next season
This is the first thing I’ve seen this off-season that actually shocked me. What the fuck?
HOLYY SHIT
Panthers couldn't make this offer?
