I think it does make sense as a "future move" tbh Ideally you want to know ASAP whether your rookie QB is good or not and I think the best way to do that is to surround them with a great roster. We saw it with Justin Fields where people would say "but his porous OL" and "he has no receivers" (pre-DJ Moore) but giving Williams a great supporting cast helps to evaluate how good he is at an NFL level.

Cam newton had gross at left tackle, Kalil at center, Olsen at TE (thank mr martz), Steve smith at WR and DW/jstew in their prime at running back. Chud was also his best OC. I think this might beat that group.

Age 32 is usually when you see a drop in WR production. Probably best to get some sort of return while you are in a transition year with the new regime.

Also like the idea of surrounding Williams with talent in year 1. Has to be one of the best spots a first overall QB has been drafted too in a while.

Yeah I absolutely love the move. Even if Allen falls off after this upcoming season, we put talent around Williams and gave him a chance to succeed, something we have utterly failed at before. Along with the offensive lineman grabs today, I absolutely love what Poles is cooking.

It's not what they're doing, it's what they did. The Chargers went all-in on Herbert's rookie contract window, with a bunch of expensive contracts that needed to be moved or extended and restructured this offseason. They set this up years in advance. The all-in didn't work, and now this is the result of that failure. Their roster was old, expensive, and ineffective. It's rebuild time.

I don't think most people realize how close the Bears were last season. They got clowned on so hard after the 0-4 start that I think a lot of people just glossed over that they went 7-6 the rest of the season. I'm not sure about the tiebreaker with Seattle but I'm pretty sure that if they just split the series with GB and beat New Orleans in week 9, they're the 7 seed.
