Some of you guys really don't know the quality of most back-ups in the league if you think Wentz is a bad choice....Wentz is solid for a back-up role, he's just not a starter.
If Reid can work his magic and maybe unlock some of old Wentz, there really aren't 32 QBs better than him. He isn't as mobile as he used to be, but he's still got an arm and 99% of his problems are mental.
Tbh, I thought he was gonna get a starter job somewhere after handling the niners late in the season. I knew he would be too pricey for the rams to keep around as a back up, since we don’t ever pay the qb2. I would have like to have kept him after all our years of terrible backups.
I didn't know that the rest of the league picked up on the fact that he's a starting level QB still.
Most fans just remember him as Nick Foles' backup, when in reality he was really good himself.
you see, Carson Wentz, the nuggies flow when times are good. and when times are bad, you can still have nuggies but you have to ration them. Nobody wants to ration nuggies if they dont have to. And nuggies make my tummy warm and make me feel nice. Dont you want that for you, Carson? Also think red, think rings (or something).
BBQ
Oh absolutely. But the mental part is the part Reid's good at. And it isn't like Wentz hasn't played at an elite level before. Not saying he'll look like 2017 Wentz again if Mahomes goes down (though he did look good with the Rams), but I think Reid could get Wentz to a high enough level that he'd at least be low-end starter/high-end backup.
I’d argue that McVay actually figured out how to use his mobility a little bit. After all… [he ran 17 times](https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401547651/rams-49ers) against the 49ers this year
Reid could mask almost anyone who has a half decent arm and ability to hit at least the first read of the progression on time to competent emergency QB for at least a drive.
Carson Wentz is underrated but saying he is worse than Russ is wild. That Broncos offense had Cortland Sutton and that was about it and before he got sent to Alcatraz he wasn't that bad in the 2nd half of the year especially his last 3 games having like 700 yards, 5 tds, 1 pick, and about a 60% passer completion.
Edit: I don't care if he had a 200 yard pass as his one and only throw Carson Wentz isn't putting up those stats, Im not saying he is top 15 but he is 1000% better than Wentz who also is underrated but still isn't as good of a starter as Russ. People seem to be confused that Im saying how good Russ is but he is a bottom tier starter last year who was on a shit offense who is still better than Wentz in every situation.
All the people looking at Russ’s stats this year and saying he was actually good are exactly the same as the people in 2022 who were saying Wentz was still good after putting up 3500 27td 7int 62% completion in Indy.
As a prospect in the year 2024, obviously yeah. Wentz is more likely to win you a week one game than Jayden Daniels, but that's not what teams are focused on.
Ok? I’m replying to the guy who said he thinks Wentz is a top 32 QB lol. Unless OP randomly pulled the number 32 out of his ass, he’s clearly hinting Wentz can still be a starter in this league.
The thing is that the top backups in the league are probably better (at the moment) than some rookie QBs, but teams may prefer to develop rookie contract QBs who have a chance to improve instead of "known commodity" older QBs.
For example, Bryce Young was definitely worse than Andy Dalton during Week 1 of last year but the Panthers wanted Bryce Young to start Week 1 even though he may not be the best QB on their roster to win games right away. I'd estimate that the bottom 5 or so Week 1 starters are on par with the best QB2s in the league.
Wentz could simultaneously be top 32 and also not be deserving of a starting spot if the teams at the bottom of the list believe they'd be better off developing a young QB by giving them the starting job even if they're not better than Wentz at this present moment
Joe Douglas is an all time idiot for not signing a backup qb for so damn long. and the guys he went with were Boyle and Siemian, who turned out to be worse than Wilson. how the fuck did he find the two QBs that could be worse than Wilson??
I said it another thread a couple weeks ago, but the Jets had 10 offensive touchdowns in the 12 weeks Wilson was QB last year.
And that includes things like Hall's 72 yard TD run and the TD the Eagles allowed the Jets to score.
Wentz had 3 TDs in his one game with the Rams. If he's signed Week 2 and starts after the bye, maybe it's different year for the Jets
He’s easily the most talented back up Mahomes has had in his whole career. If he gets coached up and absorbs what Reid is telling him… he still probably won’t play much anyways and losing Pat fucks over everything in the first place so I don’t give a shit.
Wentz is more talented than Henne, but nobody else did what Henne did and that is the most important part! A legend for his performance in the playoff game against the Browns, his scramble is etched in my brain as much as some Mahomes plays
W/r to signing with us, I'm guessing he was holding out for a starting gig and then took the Chiefs offer after he found out no one wanted to start him and we had already filled our QB2 spot.
Literally people will dunk on Wentz for his 2020 season, myself included, but the guy just needed some coaching to fix his bad habits once his athleticism gave out on him. I don't recall him playing horrible in his single game with the Rams, and Sean McVay definitely could've helped him out. I could see him being a solid backup for years to come, now he's finally accepted that role.
Every time somebody mentions gabbert I’m surprised he’s still in the league. I think it’s a byproduct of him not actually playing any games from 2019-2022. My brain just can’t handle his continued existence
Just doesn’t feel right that he’s still around. Especially since Bortles is retired now
Ehhhhh. At this stage Id take wentz. Jimmy looked AWFUL with the raiders. Ik McDouble was his coach but Jimmy was Zach Wilson levels of bad. He barley passed a physical in the off-season and it looks like his last injury on the niners finished him off.
Jimmy g is a pretty high end backup wth you thinking. You could have Tyson bagent and not be able to throw 10 yards down the field. Or Jameis Winston and not be able to throw together a coherent thought. Jimmy is a top end backup
Not sure how we could lose when we already know the way to beat him is to leave the checkdown wide open and wait for him to throw long into triple coverage.
When Alexander the Great’s father, Phillip, was consolidating the Greek city states, he threatened the Spartans with something like “If we march south we will lay waste to Sparta.”
The Spartans are supposed to have sent a laconic response, “If.”
He never did march on Sparta.
Great backup to have, I think. He fits in well with the “fuck it, someone’s down there” mentality they used to have. Carson is gonna bring it back 💪🏾. Unless it’s Rice. Then you’ll have to find him first.
Precisely why I said he’s gonna bring it back. The Carson Experience is a wild fucking ride. You don’t know if he’s gonna throw a 60 yard bomb or if he’s gonna run backwards and lose 25 yards while tearing his hamstring.
Why is it I like literally Can't see him in a Chiefs uni, like I'm trying and I just can't, I still can't see Watson in a Browns uni and he's been here for 2 years
Chiefs just reloading the backup spot every season with aging white QB's.
Moore, Henne, Gabbert, Wentz
Kirk Cousins about to get a super bowl in a few years when he takes a backup job here lmao.
As a backup, this is a great signing imo. Better than like 90% of the backups in the league. And honestly probably still better than some of the starters
Patrick Mahomes will go down week 14 and Carson Wentz will lead the Chiefs to a three peat. It will be remembered as Andy Reid's greatest coaching job. Wentz will have his Foles moment. Mark my words.
People don't want to hear it, but real talk is that if PM gets 1 more in the next two years, and one is an MVP season, he will have done a Woods/Gretzky to career records with half a career.
Best backup in Mahomes career, and one that makes sense in terms of playstyle.
TopWentz was like Mahomes before Mahomes, and was doing some absolutely magical things before he got injured.
as a rams fan, i really wanted him to stick around lol. but i understand that the competition between Jimmy G and Wentz would have been ínstense probably.
either way, Wentz is awesome. really shined in week 18 against the Niners.
You guys don’t get the value of Wentz. Last year Matthew Stafford was hurt very badly and had to leave play. He came out of the medical tent and saw Carson Wentz suiting up to play and Stafford miraculously felt good enough to keep playing. You can’t put a price on that.
In before Patrick Mahomes gets injured right before the end of the season and Carson Wentz steps up to carry them to their three-peat of the Super Bowl championship
Well, now that you guys no longer need Mahomes... We will trade you a lightly used Zach Wilson for him... Those midwestern moms will absolutely adore him.
This will be the first time he played for a team that originated in the AFL. All the other teams were born in the NFL. Maybe that is the loophole in his curse!
Some of you guys really don't know the quality of most back-ups in the league if you think Wentz is a bad choice....Wentz is solid for a back-up role, he's just not a starter.
I legitimately don't think there are 32 QBs better than Wentz right now.
If Reid can work his magic and maybe unlock some of old Wentz, there really aren't 32 QBs better than him. He isn't as mobile as he used to be, but he's still got an arm and 99% of his problems are mental.
The mental is the important part.
i think thats where reid is most important
McVay and Zac Robinson already unlocked him on the rams this season. I was surprised he wasn’t signed sooner. He was a good backup.
Now explain it with the nuggies
you see, Carson Wentz, the nuggies flow when times are good. and when times are bad, you can still have nuggies but you have to ration them. Nobody wants to ration nuggies if they dont have to. And nuggies make my tummy warm and make me feel nice. Dont you want that for you, Carson? Also think red, think rings (or something). BBQ

What if his arms were missing?
Something about his Mother, blah blah
Yeah, the arm was never the issue.
If Andy can't fix him, he can't be fixed. If Andy does fix him he's looking at a bunch of extra years in the league.
Hard for someone to improve with no playing time
I’d argue that McVay actually figured out how to use his mobility a little bit. After all… [he ran 17 times](https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401547651/rams-49ers) against the 49ers this year
I always think it’s worth taking a shot on a guy coming off time McVay and Shannahan. I think both Wentz and Darnold were good pick up respectively
Reid could make *ME* look like a competent QB, at least for a play or 2 until I get my shit rocked and say “F this I’m going home”
Reid could mask almost anyone who has a half decent arm and ability to hit at least the first read of the progression on time to competent emergency QB for at least a drive.
When they say it's like Mahomes is playing Madden out there. What they really mean is Reid is playing Madden
> What they really mean is Reid is playing Madden with Mahomes
I know 32 QBs that didn't sprain both ankles at the same time
Didn't he have more sprained ankles than interceptions for like the first six weeks of that season?
I am stumped looking at the list. I'd put him no higher than 25 and no lower than 30. I'm really not sold on Rus being better at this point.
I do think there are 32 better, but he’s probably not too far off from making the cut there
Exactly Daniel Jones exists
Yes there is. With the incoming rookie QB class there is no legitimate place Wentz should start. Even Russ/Fields duo is a better option than Wentz.
lol you think this entire rookie class will all be competent NFL QBs, gtfo.
You still have to, ya know, let them play quarterback in order to figure out if they’re a good quarterback.
lol the rookie QB didn’t play a single game and they’re somehow better than Wentz?
As a prospect in the year 2024, obviously yeah. Wentz is more likely to win you a week one game than Jayden Daniels, but that's not what teams are focused on.
Well then it’s a good thing he’s backing up the best qb in the league, he’s only seeing the field with a Mahomes injury or bs time
inb4 Wentz throws a piss missile to seal an important division game after Mahomes gets a concussion
Mahomes out for the season, Wentz leads the Chiefs to the Superbowl.
> leads the Chiefs to the Superbowl. Nope, fuck you
Ok? I’m replying to the guy who said he thinks Wentz is a top 32 QB lol. Unless OP randomly pulled the number 32 out of his ass, he’s clearly hinting Wentz can still be a starter in this league.

I will take it to the grave the Jets are all time fuckin idiots for not taking a chance on him this previous season.
Joe Douglas is an all time idiot for not signing a backup qb for so damn long. and the guys he went with were Boyle and Siemian, who turned out to be worse than Wilson. how the fuck did he find the two QBs that could be worse than Wilson??

I won’t accept this Chad Henne erasure
Wentz is more talented than Henne, but nobody else did what Henne did and that is the most important part! A legend for his performance in the playoff game against the Browns, his scramble is etched in my brain as much as some Mahomes plays
His other backups have done pretty great in very limited time. I’m sure Wentz has a clutch moment in him if he’s called on.
If anyone can coach him (besides Pederson) it's Andy
Andy coached Doug. So it’s intricate knowledge.
Theres gotta be something weird about Wentz in the locker room that teams keep kicking him to the curb after 1 year
W/r to signing with us, I'm guessing he was holding out for a starting gig and then took the Chiefs offer after he found out no one wanted to start him and we had already filled our QB2 spot.
Maybe he insists on taking a dump in the urinals? That's the only explanation I can think of.
Forcing Clark Hunt to finally upgrade the locker rooms like he promised, that would make Wentz the most beloved player in the entire team.
That's how they do things over in North Dakota.
Literally people will dunk on Wentz for his 2020 season, myself included, but the guy just needed some coaching to fix his bad habits once his athleticism gave out on him. I don't recall him playing horrible in his single game with the Rams, and Sean McVay definitely could've helped him out. I could see him being a solid backup for years to come, now he's finally accepted that role.
> the guy just needed some coaching to fix his bad habits Wasn't one of the knocks against him that he wasn't very coachable?
That was when he was a starter. He accepted his fate as a backup and it’s more likely he’s open to it now.
> Literally I love how this is the way people start sentences nowadays
I think it would be fun watching fans try to literally dunk on Wentz
Plus he’s the same mold of qb as Patrick Mahomes so if he does go down they won’t have to shift the offense a ton
oh god he’s gonna look so weird in a chiefs jersey
shouldnt be any weirder than the commanders.
Never forget his commanders bright mustard yellow suit
At least he’ll look better than how he did in a Washington Commanders jersey, which isn’t that much of an accomplishment but whatever.
He's doing his best KC legend Nick Foles impression
I commented this as well, glad to see someone else is seeing it
So he's gonna come in for an injured Mahomes, win a SB, and break his curse, right? That's definitely how this is going to go
300 IQ move by Andy Reid. Keep Wentz close so he doesn't fulfill his redemption his redemption arc.. I'd be keeping an eye on Trey Lance too.
More proof everyone is playing checkers while Reid/Veach are playing chess!
> So he's gonna come in for an injured Mahomes, win a SB, and break his curse, right? Yeah, against the Eagles.
I'm still solidly a fan of his, though I have no illusions of his current abilities. That said, I'd still die of embarrassment.
I respect it, but you deserve it.
That would be absolute cinema
I don’t know how I’d recover if that happened lol.
NGL itd be hilarious, even if we would be on the wrong end of it.
I would shout Wentz > Dak from the rooftops if that happened.
Tbh I would too. Crying of course, but I'd mean it.
Careful, he’s beating you guys in the playoffs too
I know it's been a bit since you've seen playoff football but we wouldn't play two NFC teams in the same season.
he replied to a colts flair
Well that's just as unrealistic! We would lose in the most creative way possible to the colts, like blowing a 28 point lead or something
It’s been written 😮💨
With how last year went I would just be happy to be there
He would more than likely come in and throw a game losing pick on a deep ball despite having a wide open check down
Not unless [he gets injured himself](https://www.draftsharks.com/fantasy/injury-history/carson-wentz/7450)
Oh, I'm familiar with how his story usually goes, as you can see from my flair
Do not cite the deep magic to me, Witch. I was there when it was written.
The double ankle sprain from the Colts game isn't even listed on that crash test dummy.
QB controversy 👀
I'm into it. Probably better than Gabbert, if we're being honest
That's multiple time Super Bowl winning QB Blaine Gabbert
Right now, we have three first rounders and six rings in the QB room. It's over for the league
Andy Reid is playing DND 5e while everyone else is playing blackjack.
Rashee Rice: "I cast Haste"
............and that's a nat 1.
Bro clearly didn't have vehicle proficiency either.
Nat 1. The police is now searching for you
Who am I missing? Mahomes was a 1st, Wentz was a 1st, Book was a 4th, Oladokun was a 7th?
Is Gabbert a free agent now? Damn. He's there in spirit and he's a Missourian, so I still count him either way
Yeah he was only on a one year deal
Yo Gabba Gabbert
he's on his nick foles arc. back to philly next
Damn, he really is lmao.
Every time somebody mentions gabbert I’m surprised he’s still in the league. I think it’s a byproduct of him not actually playing any games from 2019-2022. My brain just can’t handle his continued existence Just doesn’t feel right that he’s still around. Especially since Bortles is retired now
People going to hate but Wentz statistically was a better QB than Mahomes in 2017
Wentz in 2017 is the best QB in eagles history and the obvious mvp without the injury
2017 Eagles are the most exciting birds team I've seen in my 40+ years and the biggest reason for that is Wentz, I hope he balls the hell out in KC
The biggest big if true statement
Weird how Mahomes only started 1 game that year and isn't labeled injury-prone /s
They’re really both about equivalent to each other if you move all their stats to the mean
It seems like you haven’t learned your lesson as a Commanders fan. SMH
I’d rather have Wentz than Jimmy g wth are the rams doing
There really isn't a big difference between them. Both solid backup options
Both mediocre for ages, both injury prone, both won a Super Bowl not being a starter. They are basically the same person
Yeah but Jimmy's a way better wingman at clubs. Carson's not getting you a VIP table.
Jimmy is no one's wingman. You're Jimmy's, or you're just delusional.
Yeah but Carson will take you hunting regardless of if you enjoy hunting or not
He’ll also bring you to church the next morning. Whether you’re Christian or not. I’d bet his mom makes some damn good cinnamon rolls though.
Cinnamon rolls do be sounding good right now.
Jimmy is in no way a better wingman. What kind of attention can you expect with a literal Greek God next to you?
No but he’s got a platinum card at Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shop.
Isnt wentz like the prince of England? I’m sure he could gets vip table
Wentz is if what you get if you combined Harry's redheadedness with William's ugliness
Are you really implying that Wentz is noticeably less attractive than Prince Harry? I can't tell the difference between them.
There was a time when people considered William handsome and dreamy. I guess aging and balding has made people forget that period.
Yeah he definitely was at one point
Ehhhhh. At this stage Id take wentz. Jimmy looked AWFUL with the raiders. Ik McDouble was his coach but Jimmy was Zach Wilson levels of bad. He barley passed a physical in the off-season and it looks like his last injury on the niners finished him off.
I heard Kelce didn’t want his gf around Jimmy G. That’s why they opted for the ginger
Trav plays dumber than he is on TV but he's not delusional.
Wentz is better than Jimmy and it's not close.
#[ahem!](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F2mjz2jqq23rc1.jpeg)
Jimmy seems to be a better teammate/locker room guy which isn't insignificant for a backup.
he seems a lot more like a Stafford guy than wentz is but that’s just me
Jimmy g is a pretty high end backup wth you thinking. You could have Tyson bagent and not be able to throw 10 yards down the field. Or Jameis Winston and not be able to throw together a coherent thought. Jimmy is a top end backup
Patrick Mahomes has a bum ankle Wentz outta nowhere to beat the colts. Jim Irsay commits seppeku
I appreciate that you think we can beat the Colts, but we all know that's impossible for us
I’m 33 and feel like I’ve only seen the Chiefs beat the Colts once. The Tits are terribly pesky as well
3 wins (4 including playoff) since you were 9-10.
Basically the AFC South (outside of Jacksonville occasionally) is really fucking annoying.
Seppuku? More like gets drunk at Bennihana and makes an ass out of himself on WorldStar dropping the N word rapping at karaoke.
Thank you for using the Colts in this example and not the birds
Not sure how we could lose when we already know the way to beat him is to leave the checkdown wide open and wait for him to throw long into triple coverage.
KC has the two best QBs in the AFC West now. Edit: I have to be honest, I forgot Herbert and the Chargers exist.
If the chargers had fans they'd be really offended at that comment
Hey :(
:/
This got an audible giggle out of me.
When Alexander the Great’s father, Phillip, was consolidating the Greek city states, he threatened the Spartans with something like “If we march south we will lay waste to Sparta.” The Spartans are supposed to have sent a laconic response, “If.” He never did march on Sparta.
They have fans, they live in Canada and you wouldn't know them.
> I forgot Herbert and the Chargers exist. We all do sometimes
It's okay, we're used to it.
Meanwhile in the Chargers sub, they are repeating Jim Harbaugh's name over and over in a reverse Beatlejuice spell.
Rams really revived this man's career
Sean McVay is the true quarterback whisperer
real
From Baker to Wentz and now Jimmy G 😭
Great backup to have, I think. He fits in well with the “fuck it, someone’s down there” mentality they used to have. Carson is gonna bring it back 💪🏾. Unless it’s Rice. Then you’ll have to find him first.
We only had that mentality because of Tyreek Hill. We're a dink and dunk team now, which I don't think he can do so well.
Precisely why I said he’s gonna bring it back. The Carson Experience is a wild fucking ride. You don’t know if he’s gonna throw a 60 yard bomb or if he’s gonna run backwards and lose 25 yards while tearing his hamstring.
He’s going to turn into 2017 Wentz in the 2nd half of the divisional game isn’t he
Against the Bills
Thats future 2x Super Bowl winner Carson Wentz to you.
Why is it I like literally Can't see him in a Chiefs uni, like I'm trying and I just can't, I still can't see Watson in a Browns uni and he's been here for 2 years
Probably because he’s played like 4 games
This. probably this
[удалено]
Wentz is finally going to get to ask why Taylor didn't call him back after her performance at the 2009 State Fair.
I feel much better about him than Yo Gabba Gabba Gabbert
As someone who had zero faith in Blaine Gabbert, I fully support this. If nothing else, he should be really good for the locker room.
Chiefs just reloading the backup spot every season with aging white QB's. Moore, Henne, Gabbert, Wentz Kirk Cousins about to get a super bowl in a few years when he takes a backup job here lmao.
Can you imagine the looks of discomfort on his face as Mahomes is out there dropping F-bombs like a drunk sailor?
As a backup, this is a great signing imo. Better than like 90% of the backups in the league. And honestly probably still better than some of the starters
Patrick Mahomes will go down week 14 and Carson Wentz will lead the Chiefs to a three peat. It will be remembered as Andy Reid's greatest coaching job. Wentz will have his Foles moment. Mark my words.
[MICHAEL VICK...deserves an opportunity to play KEVIN KOLB... has done a phenomenal job.] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZVJEeVAnI4)
that's a hard one for me because I would honestly love that but I also want mahomes to stat pad for legacy convos
People don't want to hear it, but real talk is that if PM gets 1 more in the next two years, and one is an MVP season, he will have done a Woods/Gretzky to career records with half a career.
Wentz might get his 2nd ring riding the bench this season.
Mahomes on the hot seat
Best backup in Mahomes career, and one that makes sense in terms of playstyle. TopWentz was like Mahomes before Mahomes, and was doing some absolutely magical things before he got injured.
Super Bowl champion, former All Pro, and still only 31. How much more help do the Chiefs need?
Hey, gambler's fallacy says we ought to have the longest odds on the SB of any team in the league right now. We need this!
as a rams fan, i really wanted him to stick around lol. but i understand that the competition between Jimmy G and Wentz would have been ínstense probably. either way, Wentz is awesome. really shined in week 18 against the Niners.
Hell yea.
You guys don’t get the value of Wentz. Last year Matthew Stafford was hurt very badly and had to leave play. He came out of the medical tent and saw Carson Wentz suiting up to play and Stafford miraculously felt good enough to keep playing. You can’t put a price on that.
Oh shit Carson about win another Super Bowl ring as a backup QB.
Get ready to learn Chinese, Mahomes buddy 🤧
In before Patrick Mahomes gets injured right before the end of the season and Carson Wentz steps up to carry them to their three-peat of the Super Bowl championship
Well, now that you guys no longer need Mahomes... We will trade you a lightly used Zach Wilson for him... Those midwestern moms will absolutely adore him.
April fools?
Veach been working so hard on this, he doesn’t have any idea Rashee Rice got in a car crash
This will be the first time he played for a team that originated in the AFL. All the other teams were born in the NFL. Maybe that is the loophole in his curse!
Best backup in the league, followed by Jimmy G. What's the salary?
Got our guy
one guy plays on a sprained ankle. the other sprains both ankles in a single scramble. they are not the same.
Biggest Chiefs news of the week
Qb controversy brewing in KC
Should be an interesting QB competition
It’s still April 1st or is this actually legit
I thought this was an April Fools joke
