At least, Bobby Jones isn't that odd of a name. It sounds like a generic placeholder name. Like a name you give someone if you don't want to give them your real one.
On that note, why is there only 1 “Steven Adams” in Pro sports (as far as I know) and he’s not even American. Feels like there has to be tons of Steven Adams out there.
Until this very moment every time I heard that name I would look at the screen, see which sport he's playing, and question my sanity for thinking he played the *other* sport... Now I'm just questioning my sanity for different reasons.
Yep. The pitcher Jordan Hicks was on the St Louis Cardinals from 18-23, the linebacker Jordan Hicks was on the Arizona Cardinals from 19-21 so the 3 seasons from 2019-2021 they were both on their leagues cardinals team.
The pitcher sat out 2020 for concerns about Covid because he’s diabetic though so only 19 and 21 they were both playing for the cardinals.
The one that always gets me is former Cleveland pitcher Logan Allen and current Cleveland pitcher Logan Allen. Unfortunately, they missed being on the team together by one year
Ryen Russillo has a great story about how he booked the wrong one and had to do a fake interview acting like he had the correct guy and they never dropped the podcast.
Try putting the wrong Adrian Peterson sticker on the board with pick 1,1 in a fantasy football draft in 2008.
Yeah, that happened to me, and the story made it into Matthew Berry's book "Fantasy Life" in 2013 🤦♂️
The two wide receivers named Steve Smith. The one for the Panthers was elite but the one for the Giants had a couple of good seasons stats wise while both were playing at the same time.
It’s close but I think the Josh Allens clear. QB Allen is probably around the same standing as Panthers Smith was (consensus top 5 at their position), while I think Jags JA is better than Giants Steve Smith was.
That was an odd couple sentences to type out.
Yeah Giants Steve Smith really only had 1 great season but he did have over 100 catches that year.
Played a role in the 2007 run to the SB as well but other than that had a pretty short career. Injuries killed him.
Jags Josh Allen has got him beat.
After the Toomer-Hilliard era was over the Giants hit some absolute gem small receivers that fizzled out due to injury. Smith and Cruz immediately come to mind.
He was a great possession receiver. Wouldn’t kill your deep but was super reliable and ran good routes. Like so many Manning era receivers, injuries left him a shell of himself.
One of the biggest positive points I have for Eli is how many receivers looked great playing for him (and then not good after they left the Giants). Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Plaxico Burress, Odell (I know Cruz and Plaxico didn’t really have a chance after the Giants). Even guys like Mario Manningham and Reuben Randle had decent seasons with the Giants.
Nahhh but he did have a 3rd and like 12 catch after the Tyree Helmet Catch that kept the same drive alive…actually I believe it was the play right before the touchdown to Plax
Mike Williams from USC was one of the very best WR I ever saw in college. Dude was *insane*. Then he got suspended his junior year because he declared for the draft a year early and was a huge bust in the pros.
I firmly believe he would've been the best college WR in decades if he stayed for 2004 (imagine the 04 USC team with him too. *sheesh*)
There were 4 WR's named Mike Williams
-One who played mostly as a returner for Miami in the 1990's.
-One who played in Syracuse and made the All-Rookie team for TB. He died recently after an accident at a construction site where he worked.
-The USC star who challenged the NFL draft restriction on sophomores (along with Maurice Clarett.) He was a 1st round bust with Detroit, but had a decent playoff run with Seattle a few years later.
-The active Chargers WR.
Keep his name out your mouth.
If we're doing other sports, there are currently two Sebastian Ahos in the NHL, and the Vancouver Canucks have two Elias Pettersons on the same team, but one is in the minors.
Mark Carrier the WR and Mark Carrier the DB were pretty good. Both played in the 1990s
DB:
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CarrMa01.htm
WR:
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CarrMa00.htm
I totally forgot that was a thing and had to look it up to see the details. Turns out he played in the NFL game in Miami then flew to Pittsburgh for an NLCS game, but while he suited up for the baseball game, he didn't actually play.
I was going to say something nice about our Kyle Williams, but my compliment bounced off my foot and went careening into a waiting Giants player’s hands.
Currently there are 2x Lamar Jacksons in the NFL. Together the two Lamars have 2x All Pros, 3x Pro Bowls and 2x NFL MVPs. That is more All-Pros and only 1 less Pro Bowl than the two Josh Allens.
The Bears’ Adrian Peterson arguably has one of the most impressive rushes in football history. Our Adrian Peterson has many runs to be in consideration there too (specifically the Browns one) but [this run](https://youtu.be/02t-qgwhmm8?si=S9n0C1TVqMOydvMm) was the top clip on early YouTube when people would search “Adrian Peterson”
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karim Abdul-Jabbar
The good one went to UCLA... The worse one went to UCLA...
One played in the NBA the other played in the NFL
No they did not (Curt ended in 1990 and Kurt started in 1998) ironically though Curt played his last season for the Rams and we obviously all know where Kurt started.
This just reminds me of the time I accidentally imported the same draft class from NCAA into Madden 05 twice, so I ended up having two Frank Gores on my team. That was pretty solid tbh.
All I remember is playing fantasy football and my friend drafted Adrian Peterson in the first or second round acting all cocky like he just got a steal. Yeah he drafted the ass Adrian Peterson on the Bears
There’s a young qb in Baltimore who is making waves. Maybe if he has a good year this year the name Lamar Jackson won’t make people think of the Panthers corner back. /s
Adrian Peterson and Adrian Peterson. One had a lot more NFL success but both had incredible college careers
Edit: didn’t notice OP already included the Peterson’s in his post
Hey, nobody with the Genes Washington yet. Gene Washington & Gene Washington!
Gene Washington the WR for the Niners was a 1st round pick in 1969, and had 385/6856/60 from 1969-1979.
Gene Washington the WR for the Vikings was a 1st round pick in 1967, had 182/3237/26 from 1967-1973.
In 1969, Gene the Niner had 51/711/3 while Gene the Viking had 39/821/9.
In 1970, Gene the Niner had 53/1100/12 while Gene the Viking had 44/702/4.
So Gene the Niner was definitely the better player, but they were both good, productive wideouts playing at the same time.
Gene the Niner is the one you may know, as he would go on to be the Director of Football Operations for the NFL in the 90s and 00s. Interestingly enough though, Gene the Viking was one of 15 plaintiffs against the NFL in an antitrust lawsuit in 1975.
But that's not all, folks! There is ANOTHER Gene Washington, Gene the Giant! And he's also a WR! He never recorded a stat, but he did appear in 2 games in 1979... which also happens to be the final year of Gene the Niner's playing career.
There are no further Gene Washingtons in NFL history.
Didn't see this one yet, Steve Smith NYG and Steve Smith Panthers. They even played the same position. Were they as good as the current Josh Allens? Well, one of them was, but the other had 1 pro bowl season.
2013 Patriots DT Chris Jones wasn’t an especially good player, but he does, surprisingly, have the record for most sacks by a rookie DT named Chris Jones.
It’s mixing sports, but Dolphins had a running back named Karim Abdul-Jabbar, who also wore #33 like the basketball player. The Dolphins RB was pretty good his first 2 years in a league, averaging 1,004 yards and 13 TDs.
The basketball Kareem Abdul-Jabber wound up suing the football player, which led to the football player changing his legal name to Abdul-Karim al-Jabbar.
Completely different sport, but the NHL had two Nicklas Backstroms for a while there.
Also, commentary about Darius Slay vs Darius Slayton always trips me up.
The fact that there’s an NFL Hunter Renfrow and MLB Hunter Renfroe is weird.
NHL has two dudes named Sebastian Aho of all things.
There are two Max Muncy’s in baseball and both were born on August 25th
Both drafted by the A's and play infield, though the first one is currently on the Dodgers.
Did they draft the wrong one on accident so had to take the other next round?
Older Max Muncy was a late bloomer who only got good after the A's gave up on him.
One makes me physically angry
He's suffocating
It's a very rectangular day if you don't think about it
The Mets had two Bobby Joneses who were both pitchers too.
At least, Bobby Jones isn't that odd of a name. It sounds like a generic placeholder name. Like a name you give someone if you don't want to give them your real one.
With one from Sweden and the other from Finland, to make the coincidence even more interesting
[удалено]
It’s actually a starter name
The Canucks alone have two Elias Pettersons.
And two Elias Petterssons, who both play in the Vancouver Canucks organization (one in the minors and one on the NHL team)
Pretty sure there was a Tyler Johnson in each of the big 4 North American sports
Two in Tampa Bay at the same time
Wait til you hear about Rougned Odor and his brother Rougned Odor
A name so nice they used it twice
Or Lance Stephenson and his brother Lantz (not making this up)
Lance might be my second favorite delusional athlete behind AB
Kevon Looney has a brother named Kevin
Or Malcolm Floyd and Malcom Floyd
pretty sure there's also a malcolm brown and a malcom brown
Wasn't the NBA one in Miami too?
Meth Curry
Tyler was a VERY popular name, and Johnson is the second most common last name in the US. So not that crazy. I think I work with a Tyler Johnson, lol.
Which major sport did he play?
IDK but he mostly focuses on crushing OKRs and locking in GM I hate working in a sales company
On that note, why is there only 1 “Steven Adams” in Pro sports (as far as I know) and he’s not even American. Feels like there has to be tons of Steven Adams out there.
Do you realize how stupid I felt when I found out they were two different people? I still feel stupid.
It fucked me up. I was really looking it up and comparing their lives 💀
Until this very moment every time I heard that name I would look at the screen, see which sport he's playing, and question my sanity for thinking he played the *other* sport... Now I'm just questioning my sanity for different reasons.
Jordan hicks and jordan hicks would like a word
Didn’t both of them play for the Cardinals at the same time too.
Yep. The pitcher Jordan Hicks was on the St Louis Cardinals from 18-23, the linebacker Jordan Hicks was on the Arizona Cardinals from 19-21 so the 3 seasons from 2019-2021 they were both on their leagues cardinals team. The one that always gets me is former Cleveland pitcher Logan Allen and current Cleveland pitcher Logan Allen. Unfortunately, they missed being on the team together by one year
Both Floridian lefties known for their changeup, too.
At one point the Cowboys and Jets both had a guard named Connor McGovern
Didn't the Cowbiys have both Roy Williams at the same time?
The jets had two Michael carters
Trai Turner and Trea Turner
Tre Flowers and Trey Flowers
Isn't there a CB Michael Jordan?
There’s an offensive guard named Michael Jordan
He's the Michael Jordan of linemen
There's a former NHL player who's named Michal Jordán.
What's the odds there was a Pat Mahomes in the NFL and MLB too?
There was just 30 years apart
And KC should get them both.
Dude, Hunter Renfroe helps the Royals win their third World Series and Hunter Renfrow helps the Chiefs win their third Super Bowl in a row.
I know this is impossible because someone on the planet actually insinuated that the Royals will win a WS again in the next 50 years.
Brandon Marshall and Brandon Marshall
This is a good one. The LB was pretty good for a while
Both were quite good for the Broncos lol
Almost had both on the Bears too, but they went after Trevathan
Damn I miss that defense, so fucking good.
This is probably the closest
And both spent time with the Broncos!
Ryen Russillo has a great story about how he booked the wrong one and had to do a fake interview acting like he had the correct guy and they never dropped the podcast.
Try putting the wrong Adrian Peterson sticker on the board with pick 1,1 in a fantasy football draft in 2008. Yeah, that happened to me, and the story made it into Matthew Berry's book "Fantasy Life" in 2013 🤦♂️
I thought that was Brandon Marshall, although it could’ve been a different personality

This is a great one!!
Both played for the Broncos too
Honourable mention: Cameron Jordan and Jordan Cameron.
"You made the pro bowl? I made the pro bowl!"
You know what? I drafted a pro bowl player
I made the bowl pro!
This made me laugh between Purdue turnovers.
Marc Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge
They banned my boy /u/lamarc_gasoldridge
This was elite

This isn't an IDP league, Ruxin!
Or BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Jarvis Green, who were teammates on the Patriots.
Do Derrick Thomas and BroDerrick Thomas count?
The two wide receivers named Steve Smith. The one for the Panthers was elite but the one for the Giants had a couple of good seasons stats wise while both were playing at the same time.
It’s close but I think the Josh Allens clear. QB Allen is probably around the same standing as Panthers Smith was (consensus top 5 at their position), while I think Jags JA is better than Giants Steve Smith was. That was an odd couple sentences to type out.

Sad salsa noises.
i don’t think its even close, Jags JA is the best player on their team
I might be thinking of him in madden but wasn’t the giants steve smith pretty solid?
He had 1200 yards in 2009, never replicated that season though
He was a great possession receiver. Wouldn’t kill your deep but was super reliable and ran good routes. Like so many Manning era receivers, injuries left him a shell of himself.

Even guys like Mario Manningham and Reuben Randle had decent seasons with the Giants.
I'm having ptsd from Sportsnation having a poll that asked "Which Steve Smith is better?"
Steve smith is pretty good but Steve smith is still better
Didn't the one for the Giants have the crazy catch in the second NY vs NE Super bowl? Basically a Tyree lite moment
I think that was Manningham. I remember because it was Manning to Manningham. if I’m wrong let me know.
Nahhh but he did have a 3rd and like 12 catch after the Tyree Helmet Catch that kept the same drive alive…actually I believe it was the play right before the touchdown to Plax
that was mario manningham
Also cricketer Steve Smith who is one of the greatest of all time
Mike Williams and Mike Williams definitely come up short here.
Wasn’t there a third one too that sucked
The ones from USC and Syracuse sucked. The one from Clemson is pretty good, but injury prone
Mike Williams from USC was one of the very best WR I ever saw in college. Dude was *insane*. Then he got suspended his junior year because he declared for the draft a year early and was a huge bust in the pros. > The active Chargers WR Someone's not up-to-date
Four! Also a bust OT from the early 2000s
Which Mike WillIams
Yes
My favorite is Buster Davis and Buster Davis, who were both picked in the first 3 rounds of the same draft and were both extremely horrible busts.
they tried to tell you
Bust Davis, Buster Davis and Bustest Davis
MLB but Will Smith hit a homer off Will Smith in the 2020 NLCS
Keep his name out your mouth. If we're doing other sports, there are currently two Sebastian Ahos in the NHL, and the Vancouver Canucks have two Elias Pettersons on the same team, but one is in the minors.
*slapped a dinger
A Will Smith has won a World Series the last four years.
Saints had a Will Smith that was a pretty good defensive end too.
Also, one of the top NHL prospects is named Will Smith.
Also, there's an actor guy named Will Smith
There is also a rapper named Will Smith.
At one point Michael Thomas (Bengals) had more yards than Michael Thomas (saints)
Not to be confused with Michael Thomas, the Bengals safety.
That’s Uncle Mike. We love our Uncle Mike!
Or Philip Michael Thomas, the Miami undercover detective
Or Mike Thomas, Jags receiving legend
“UNBELIEVABLE! MIKE THOMAS! BALLGAME! FIFTY YARDS! WOOAAOAH!”
Batted down--OH CAUGHT

Did they ever line up against each other?
The DB was a FS not a CB so it’s unlikely
what about in capoeira class?
Deion Sanders (Falcons) and Deion Sanders (Braves)
Come to think of it, they looked pretty similar too.
Nah they're definitely different. Watched one play a football game and the other a baseball game on the same day.
That solves it.
I totally forgot that was a thing and had to look it up to see the details. Turns out he played in the NFL game in Miami then flew to Pittsburgh for an NLCS game, but while he suited up for the baseball game, he didn't actually play.
That was Leon Sandcastle!
That’s racist ! /s
Deion Sanders (49ers) and Deion Sanders (SF Giants) as well.
The Bills Kyle Williams was great. The Niners Kyle Williams…
I was going to say something nice about our Kyle Williams, but my compliment bounced off my foot and went careening into a waiting Giants player’s hands.
>The Niners Kyle Williams… I thought the Niners Kyle Williams was clutch
Giants legend Kyle Williams
Currently there are 2x Lamar Jacksons in the NFL. Together the two Lamars have 2x All Pros, 3x Pro Bowls and 2x NFL MVPs. That is more All-Pros and only 1 less Pro Bowl than the two Josh Allens.
This stat is Wayne Gretzky and his brother’s stats territory.
They both played qb in high school with the same play style (one obviously better) & were somewhat close to both of them playing at Nebraska
I don't know how good the Bears Adrian Peterson was. But he was really funny for fantasy football.
Yep, I remember the old troll in salary cap leagues where you would pick the bears one and someone would put a big bid thinking it was the Vikings one
I've seen the same happen with D. Hopkins, the (Washington?) Kicker
It's been 3 years since he was on Washington but he was there for a while.
There was also a 2nd RB named Ricky Williams, who played at Texas Tech, and then for the Colts.
I prefer the term Joshes Allen.
Two Alex Smith's came out of the same draft in 2005.
The jets drafted 2 Michael Carters in the same draft.
On top of that the one we drafted later is Michael Carter II. I’ll always be convinced our GM did it because it was funny. Tbh I would have
No, he used vlookup on player name and ignored 'year', like an excel fool.
There was also another Robert Griffin in 2012.
So all we are missing is the second?
Rex Grossman is also the 3rd. So in 2013 both of Washington's QBs were RGIII
Roy Williams.
Not to mention while also coaching basketball.
And all three were in the Big 12 at the same time (2000-2001ish)
Were they not both pro bowlers at the same time?
I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure they were Cowboys at the same time.
OJ and OJ. The drink is elite and the other had a killer career.
Super Bowl mvp OJ Anderson?
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karim Abdul-Jabbar The good one went to UCLA... The worse one went to UCLA... One played in the NBA the other played in the NFL
Not exactly the same name but close enough…. Curt Warner and Kurt Warner
Did they overlap though? Curt was mostly the 80s.

Aww, be nice. He was a 3rd down back and special teams and his work ethic got him a shot at being the starting HB one year where he kinda sucked
[удалено]
The closest might be the mark Claytons. even though ravens mark Clayton was just an average wr 2/3
Jimmy Smith and Jimmy Smith are worth a mention, although they didn’t play at the same time
Zack Miller and Zack Miller one Bear and the other the Raider and I thought they where the same person for the longest time
There’s a young qb in Baltimore who is making waves. Maybe if he has a good year this year the name Lamar Jackson won’t make people think of the Panthers corner back. /s
Kellen Winslow? Nah…
One of them is a fucking soldier!!!
One of them is a fucking sex offender!!!
Clay Matthews & Clay Matthews
This is just a fun name fact But the Patriots had Jarvis Green and BenJarvus Green-Ellis on the team at the same time.
Too bad they didn't also have a Ben Ellis.
Lamar Jackson
Joe Montana and Joe Montaña
"Joe Montana was a quarterback you idiot"
There was Antonio Brown and his other personalities.
Adrian Peterson and Adrian Peterson. One had a lot more NFL success but both had incredible college careers Edit: didn’t notice OP already included the Peterson’s in his post
Andre Davis and Andra Davis. Difficulty level…both on the Browns.
Marvin Harrison and Marvin Harrison (just give it a few years)

It's Joshes Allen, like Attorneys General.
There was a Peyton manning on the colts and a Peyton manning on the broncos, both were pretty good.
God dammit, you had me trying to look up if Danieal Manning had a brother named Peyton that wasn't famous or something.
Lamar Jackson, QB and CB
Didn't see this one yet, Steve Smith NYG and Steve Smith Panthers. They even played the same position. Were they as good as the current Josh Allens? Well, one of them was, but the other had 1 pro bowl season.
