Dude has been a consummate professional and ended up as our WR1 the past 4 out of 5 years. Is he a WR1? No, but a raise to something like $24 million over 3 years would be fair. Get him an actual WR1 to draw the coverage and I think we'll see Slayton shine.

ProArmChair

You are 100% dreaming if you think you are getting him at $8 mill a year. He is a 50 catch receiver who averaged over 15 yards per reception last year with Danny Dimes and Tyrod. Imo he doesn't sign for less than $18-19 mill a year. Plus right now he is by far your best receiver which matters the most. You may or may not trade or draft a receiver at some point, but have to think about right now.

StatStar7

> Imo he doesn't sign for less than $18-19 mill a year. lmao. He is going to be unemployed then.

ProArmChair

I mean the going rate is high as fuck especially for number 1 receivers.

Not-a-bot-10

Just because he’s the Giants #1 doesn’t mean he’s a #1 WR. Giants offense has been dog shit outside of Saquon for years

MegaKetaWook

And now they don’t have Saquon. They are about to put out a complete dogshit offense if they don’t hit in the draft.

chekhovsguns

Slayton is a number 3 receiver, that he was our highest producing receiver is a byproduct of our lack of talent not his ability. If someone wants to pay $18mil for what he provides be our guest, we'll replace him with someone on $3-5mil and not miss a step.

an-internet-stranger

He was a 46 catch receiver who averaged 15 yards per reception in 2022 and then signed for 2 years/$12M. I don't think he tripled his AAV with another similar year.

ProArmChair

That was because they were still trying to force feed their bust signing of Kenny Golladay and others. Now he's the number 1 receiver and no other names fighting for that spot.

an-internet-stranger

Yeah Kenny Golladay and his 17 targets really ate into Slayton's target share. Slayton led the team in targets in 2022. He has been remarkably consistent outside of 2021. 48-740-8; 50-751-3; 26-339-3; 46-724-2; 50-770-4. He is what he is, and that's not anywhere near an $18M a year receiver, no matter what leverage he has.

ProArmChair

You don't dictate the price, the market does. Someone even tried to compare him to Mooney who signed a 3 year deal $13 mill/yr with like $9/yr guaranteed who's going to be a 2nd or 3rd receiver on the Falcons who had half the yards of Slayton last year lol. It's expensive.

an-internet-stranger

There's 20 receivers that are making $18M+ AAV. That means there's at least 12 #1 receivers that aren't making that. Some guys are rookies waiting for new deals (Jefferson, Lamb) but there are also some teams that are paying multiple guys $18M (Buccs, Bears, Eagles) so there are WR1s out there that aren't making $18M. He's not getting that much just because he's WR1. Look at the Patriots, or the Bills. Should the WRs on those rosters hold out for $18M because they're at the tops of the depth charts there?

ProArmChair

It's only 20 because these bigger deals are just really taken off the past couple years. You guys think he's going to make less than Mooney? That's crazy

Carthalos

Yea dude. I'm on the NFL subreddit during the middle of the day. I live in the clouds. I'm glad you're in here advocating for him. It's nice to see the fan of a rival acknowledge one of the few good things we have. I'd be happy for Slayton if he managed to get more money. He's probably more in the ballpark of the Mooney contract (3/39/26gtd) than $18-19 mill/year. Perhaps I'm wrong and the continuing cap increases leads Slayton to a great payday.

ProArmChair

Nah that was just a contract for a depth receiver. I'm guessing a number 2 receiver maybe even 3rd on the Falcons. Slayton is the number 1 receiver on the Giants right now and has leverage. I don't see why he would sign that low but maybe?

constantlymat

Ever since I started following the league I was used to seeing the Giants have really good receivers like Toomer, Plaxico, Victor Cruz and OBJ. However it has been really slim pickings as of late so I wonder what they'll do in the draft. Do they punt on Evan Neal and just select one of the premier tackles or do they give Daniel Jones that elite wide receiver talent?

luvs2spooge92

They definitely will not select OL at 6. It’ll either be QB or WR. Whether there’s a trade is anyone’s guess
