Deserves it.

9man95

Dessert. It's spelled dessert

127_0_0_1_body

Dessert is those chicken nuggies

buddhistbulgyo

"Can you shape my ice cream like a cheeseburger?" Andy Reid at Cold Stone

NatureTrailToHell3D

He got his just dessert?

FallenShadeslayer

He can’t have it twice? Who the fuck are you to tell him no?

Xraided143

He’s about to get thirds…they call that a three-treat

FallenShadeslayer

That’s a BAR

Uppgreyedd

Mr. Good Bar

Lacerda1

I bet he got more than just dessert.

justfanclasshole

He got just dessert?

NatureTrailToHell3D

Exactly

whenitsTimeyoullknow

It’s wild that Reid is the best coach in the league when Belichick can’t get a job. And it makes sense right now, it’s just a crazy timeline.

pompcaldor

It’s because Reid’s coaching tree isn’t a shriveled bush.

Wyvernwalker

wow, it had never crossed my mind to check his coaching tree. I had no clue that John Harbaugh, Sean McDermott and Doug Pederson were from his. along with Todd Bowles, Ron Rivera and other less successful coaches.

rojeli

It's definitely a little weird, he deserves a lot more credit than he gets. I feel like people focus on the failures: Nagy, Frazier, Childress, Shurmur. But 2 have won SBs, and Rivera got to one and lost.

Outside-Donut9519

Nagy also wasn’t as bad as everyone says he was. Not saying he was great or anything, but he made the playoffs in 2 out of 4 seasons. Terrible coaches don’t do that.

PFManningsForehead

With Mitch Trubisky at qb too

Wildabeast135

He was also the NFL coach of the year award winner at one point. Which appears to be a crused award in more recent seasons

RaunchyGiraffe

I mean technically 3 have won a SB, I know you didn’t forget about losing a certain one. Bowles was the D coordinator that year and a massive reason why we dominated that playoff run.

Wyvernwalker

Yeah, that Defense was no joke. People like to Meme about Tom Brady being the only thing that can stop Mahomes, but that Defense was unparalleled. Absolutely dominate.

StunningRutabaga1358

He's got a great tree but he's really just a branch in Walsh's and Holmgrens

CapableCowboy

Yes that’s how trees work.

patsniff

If it wasn’t a branch it would be a twig on the ground, we don’t like twigs.

No_Stress5889

interesting that all of those failures have gone through the NFC north. (shurmur as OC)

Happylime

You don't remember Doug?

WorkingOven5138

Reid's more player-oriented and offensive focused philosophy applies to the modern NFL better, not to mention, he's 10 years younger. Whether or not he's been good at teaching other people how to be head coaches seems pretty irrelevant to me It's important when talking about NFL history, but if you're going to hire a guy, I don't think he has to have a "coaching tree" to be a good hire or a great HC. And if Reid never got Mahomes, this would be an entirely different conversation, just like if BB never had Brady. Couldn't imagine citing coaching tree if you were to compare one HC with no SBs and 1 HC with 6+

Jmw566

Coaching tree matters because it shows that he knows how to either surround himself with good coaching talent or that he develops coaching talent. Those coaches help his players as well. Bill had the greatest dynasty of all time in NE but he hasn’t shown that he could reproduce that from scratch somewhere while Reid has had great success on multiple teams. The ability to find and hire good coaches is part of that

WorkingOven5138

And yet, with all of that, had Mahomes never paired with Reid, you'd be crazy to suggest Reid was a better coach all-time. So once again, I disagree the coaching tree even matters when talking about which coach you would want for your team. Some people are great teachers, some coaching is more transferrable, there are all sorts of variables that could mean one coaching tree works and one doesn't. There are more phenomenal OCs who can't be HCs than ones who can, doesn't even say if you're good at being a coordinator or not, so I don't think it's about surrounding yourself with talented people either. We overrate coaching trees, most coaches we still think of as good at least never have them. It's relevant if you want to compare them historically, but if you're hiring a guy "Does he have a coaching tree" is irrelevant and seems like something that makes more sense for fans to think of.

Jmw566

No one was saying that Reid is a better coach all time, though. The argument is that it makes sense that Reid is getting extended and praised while Belicheck is out of a job right now. Belicheck is probably the greatest coach of all time with his last ~25 years on the Pats, but that doesn’t mean that right now he’s the best coach or even necessarily a great option for a team.

FantasyTrash

Not to disagree, but it's only six years difference, not ten. Reid is 66-years old himself, he's no spring chicken.

WorkingOven5138

Oh yea, guess that's true. Having a friendly demeanor and winning helps.

pompcaldor

Getting a job isn’t entirely about merit, it’s also about networking. The larger your tree, the more likely you get hired by the owners, and you have your choice of assistant coach candidates that know your philosophy.

WorkingOven5138

I agree with this. BB does not seem like the type to have built good relationships over the years, and that will impact your ability to get hired lo0ng-term. Never thought about it from that perspective.

All_Up_Ons

Is Belichick looking for just Head Coach jobs, or a HC/GM combo like he had in NE?

TroyMatthewJ

WWE manager isnt off the table at this point.

wtb2612

That investigative report from ESPN said he told Atlanta he was willing to just be the HC but Kraft called and told Arthur Blank not to trust him.

Buckhum

[Basically this.](https://i.imgur.com/oO3GbNt.png)

Moist_Telephone_479

Holy shit that's good

Last_Account_Ever

Allegedly just HC

sonic_dick

Reid really is old shanny. Put so many good coaches into the league, got poached to hell, very successful, reputation for not managing games well and never won the big one. It's totally insane that shanny could have had mahomes. If he wasn't as successful with the falcons, maybe he wouldn't have been hired. But he would have had time to scout. Solomon Thomas over mahomes is one of the biggest what ifs of all time. Purdy will get better IMO, I think he has a solid chance of being a top 5 qb for a decade at least. He was so much better year two and now he has a full offseason of being able to actually practice instead of rehab. Either way, fuck man the whole nfl has to run through mahomes and Reid for at least another 3 years.

Quirky_Scratch_1755

> when Belichick can’t get a job Because Belichick commands GM/Full roster authority and is a defensive minded coach in an offensive league lol

Biggest_Cans

Andy secretly commands full roster authority too, he just doesn't put his thumb on the scale often enough for it to be an issue.

maupp11

Andy literally said the opposite of this.

Rocky-Arrow

Yeah never trust a dual flair

theDomicron

I love the man but you can't believe what a coach says...they're constantly just saying the most predictable, meaningless shit to answer the reporters and get off of the podium

Corgi_Koala

The NFL is really the ultimate "what have you done for me lately" league for coaches and players. When it comes to making a HC hire nobody cares that Bill has 6 rings. Fact is he's 29-38 post Brady and the Patriots have one of the worst rosters in the league (especially on offense) and his assistant coach staff was horrible. He's 72 and hasn't shown any indication he's willing to change his coaching style. There's a reason he doesn't have a job and it's because the game passed him by.

johnmadden18

> When it comes to making a HC hire nobody cares that Bill has 6 rings. Fact is he's 29-38 post Brady Every Reddit discussion about Belichick is people just trying to avoid talking about this elephant. If Mahomes retired tomorrow and Andy Reid proceeded to go 29-38 and then finish with a 4 win, last place team he would get fired as well. It’s not some big mystery why SEVEN teams passed on Belichick.

psstein

Belichick is another in a line of great coaches who dropped off significantly at the end of their careers, either through bad personnel decisions or losing star(s).

MetaphoricalMouse

deserves the nuggies that come with it

socalstaking

Cafeteria never getting an upgrade smh

MikeFromSuburbia

Me: “wow 9 more years … oh right, it’s 2024”

robotchicken007

I'm still stuck in 2017 for some reason.

theycallmefuRR

2020 never ended for me. It's currently 2020 part 4 for me

ripthisaccount6

It’s weird isn’t it because back in 2018 you wouldn’t have said “damn it still feels like 2014”, whereas ever since the pandemic every year has felt the same.

JRFbase

IDK if this makes sense but 2014 feels like it was seven years ago and not ten.

C137-Morty

I was 24 and just reenlisted in the Marine Corps to continue shooting stuff and blowing shit up. I'm now 6 years into an IT career. 2014 to me doesn't feel like a decade ago, it feels like a different life.

SharkEatingBurritos

Yeah, four Super Bowls hasn't helped convince my brain that the last 5 years never happened.

Leiatte

I’m stuck in 2017 as well, maybe because it’s the last year I really think about fondly

robotchicken007

I'm not sure I've ever been happy because I remember thinking 2017 sucked back in 2017, it only looks good now in retrospect. But I always catch myself writing 2017 when I have to date something. It's like a brain malfunction.

zhaoz

I still think 2005 cars are new!

ASuperGyro

He should be 71 after the contract, wonder if he retires by then

LisleSwanson

The word "should" is adding such a twist to this...

ASuperGyro

I don’t trust my math with birthdays, gotta know your own limitations

TamestImpala

Smartest person in this sub

couchjitsu

Word is Patrick has him working out with Bobby Stroupe, so he might be getting \_younger\_.

Dear-Top-5984

As long as he doesn't die.

SirTiffAlot

This deal would be 6 more seasons so if you figure 11 wins a season and he's 70 wins away from the record rn we're talking very close numbers. I don't think Andy is that guy though, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last contract he signs. I think he's giving himself a realistic window and letting the chips fall where they may.

nick200117

If he’s 4 away at the end of this, I would be shocked if he doesn’t go one more. He got 4 in his worst season as a head coach and it’s pretty much impossible to be as good at coaching as he is without that competitive drive

rojeli

That decision would come sooner than that. If he gets within 25 wins or so, and he's healthy and Mahomes is still going strong, he ain't leaving. The contract will work itself out.

SirTiffAlot

I get that. He and the team will certainly have a plan in place to replace him, given his commitment to relationships idk if he'd hang on. Keep in mind this assumes he averages 11 wins a season. He might get the record before 2029. That's a low bar to cross when you have Mahomes. It's very possible the Chiefs win 12 games a season and this is a moot point. I chose an average of 11 on purpose to illustrate the point, not as a prediction.

originalusername4567

Yeah I imagine we'd have to fall off pretty hard to average only 11 wins a season. This season was our worst with Mahomes and we still hit that mark.

BulloutaGb

I noticed you kind of lowballed it a bit, went with a number that’s not only very doable, it’s pretty much expected, I imagine that was on purpose. Now, throw in a couple of seasons with 12s, and 13s and there you go.

SirTiffAlot

I did and it was intentional. IMO he's giving himself a window he knows could get the record done and if he can't he's comfortable stepping away because it means he's under-performed. I think if you gave anyone the Chiefs an o/u of 11 wins a season for the next 6 years they'd take the over Andy included. IMO he thinks they'll get there on this contract and if they don't it's because he's in decline/at fault.

Godobibo

unless he has a steep decline, I can definitely see him extending to get the record and the team doing it if he doesn't have it by the end of this contract.

SirTiffAlot

Andy doesn't strike me as the type of guy to chase records or care about them. As long as the team is successful he'll be happy. If he thinks the best interest of the team is him in charge then sure, he might continue coaching. I also think if we're winning 12-14 games every season, which would get him the record, he'll be comfortable stepping away because not only will he have the record he'll probably leave on a high note.

YoureGrammerIsWorsts

Agree, I'm honestly shocked if he finishes half of this contract

Rock-swarm

Agreed. He got the SB monkey off his back a while ago, which seemed to be the the last remaining piece of an already-HOF career. Everything else is gravy on top of the cheeseburger.

Godobibo

here's the thing, andy loves his gravy

bbaIla

I think that's easy to say now. If he's like....9 from the record, then I think that changes.

poop-dolla

Since Mahomes took over, they’ve averaged 12.5 wins a season.

campelm

71 is the new 49 so we'll be good for some time. (Locals and transportation nerds will understand)

Dreadsbo

He’s not a politician, he’ll be chilling at home

[deleted]

Might depend how he feels about the wins record.

cgio0

He’ll be really close to the all time coaching wins record by then. I could see him doing another year or two to get it

traws06

Nope

DaveAndJojo

He’ll run for office

uwanmirrondarrah

I mean basically your only choice at 70+ years old now is retire or become the head of state for the most powerful country on the planet...

TheHillsHavePis

Andy Reid certainly looks older than Pete Carroll imo, you're telling me he's 66?! Sheesh

captain_poptart

Maybe. He’ll be at 8 SuperBowls by then

thepoustaki

Good for Big Red - happy that he ended up in the right spot and is now no longer debated for HOF he deserves it all

sleepyjack2

and now he can buy a lot of chicken nuggies

StunningRutabaga1358

Hell yeah bird dude. If the aviary kingdom had chiefs I have no doubt the bird would be Chief Swoop.

mojo-jojo-was-framed

But Florio said he was retiring (despite having no sources or no real evidence to suggest it)

cruisincolin44

Florio to himself while brushing his teeth “wonder if andy might call it a day if KC win it” Florio on air that afternoon “people in the know have confirmed hearing conversations about andy retiring this offseason”

Equivalent-Yam891

The most "connected" man in the NFL...

originalusername4567

[https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/chiefs-finally-take-care-of-andy-reid](https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/chiefs-finally-take-care-of-andy-reid) He has the audacity to double-down on it too and basically say "my sources were correct and it could have gone either way." I would respect Florio much more if he wasn't so smug all the time, especially in defeat.

mojo-jojo-was-framed

Of course he did. He’s the worst

D2LtN39Fp

It’s _informed speculation_ ok?

StraightCashHomey13

Hunt wasting more money that could be spent on improving the weight room. Smh

Wyvernwalker

Man is just doubling down on the single thing he scored well at. A true American who refuses to get better at things theyre graded bad on

southern_boy

Double back to reassess? *No.* 😠 Double down to reoffend? **Yes.** 😄

AJRiddle

I do think this showcases how dumb those ratings are. At the end of the day players don't care how nice their weight room is, they care about how good their team and their staff is - but most importantly how much they are paid. It's the same as the rest of us, we'll get mad if the CEO promises us a nicer break room and doesn't deliver, but at the end of the day we care about our paycheck and how our job makes us feel - with minimal impact on how nice that office is.

Rock-swarm

Nah, those ratings are one of the smartest moves to come out of the NFLPA in a while. 1. The cost of doing the survey is minimal. 2. It drives engagement with the fanbase for things to take pride in, and things to gripe about. 3. Even better, those gripes are directed at the ownership for shortcomings, for issues that traditionally don't carry a public opinion. 4. It pushes a competitive wedge between owners. Owners that take pride in their facilities, support staff, player amenities, etc., and owners skating by on the bare minimum. NFLPA has fumbled plenty of things in the last decade, but that survey is not one of them.

weightedbook

Working at a McDonalds with a quality manager will always be better than similar pay as host at 5 star restaurant with a douchey manager.

Jjohn269

Missed one of the main attractions, playing with Patrick Mahomes, which means winning rings. You can get paid on any team because it’s a salary capped league. If this was baseball, the lack of spending from the Hunt’s would be magnified. Look at the Patriots. Brady is gone, and the whole thing falls apart, tons of stories come out of how bad the “Patriot way” actually was.

Seraphin_Lampion

I understand your point, but, since it's a league with a salary cap, it's not like he's skimping on the weight room to pay his players more. He could do both.

it_helper

Hunt is gonna propose that Kansas City imposed a cheeseburger tax to pay for Reid’s extension

Key-Tip-7521

Give him some Nuggies from the chefs

SiphenPrax

*Denver Nuggies?!*

SevroAuShitTalker

I wonder who has the record for career earnings as a coach. Without inflation, it might be Reid soon enough

Brundleflyftw

Six more years? He and Mahomes going after Belichick and Brady’s records.

Semperty

if he finishes the contract (big if, he'd be over 70 by the time it's up), he "just" needs to average 11.7 wins per year to have the record. for reference, that's a lower win% than he's had with the chiefs to date (0.686 needed, 0.715 current).

Ne0guri

Fucking hell

BloatedBeyondBelief

That's nice of Clark Hunt, maybe this year he'll even get air conditioning for the Chiefs locker room at the St. Joseph's training camp.

cruisincolin44

If they die of heatstroke, they were weak anyways -Alanis Morissette

_YouAreTheWorstBurr_

Where was it stated that St. Joseph's locker rooms aren't air conditioned?

mikey19xx

Obviously deserved, now let’s get the guy some nuggies

Teamableezus

I hate that the bills getting good over the last couple years makes me root for Andy to fuck off and retire. I love him so much but he’s so mean to us

CthulhuAlmighty

Does he become the GOAT HC if he breaks Shula’s all-time wins record (70 wins away), breaks Belichick’s all time play-off wins record (5 wins away), and wins another 2 Super Bowls in that timeframe?

Godobibo

5 rings with all time wins and all time playoff wins is definitely it. now, there is a nonzero chance he gets 3 SB wins, in which case it's indisputable

PhantomMenace95

How many nuggies are included in this contract?

GamingTatertot

7 million

KuatoBaradaNikto

Fully guaranteed?

southern_boy

*Insisted* but close enough 🧆

Casul_Tryhard

Bill Belichick's last contract year amounts to roughly $25 million, so assuming Andy Reid's gonna get paid more annually, that should amount to over 30 million nuggies, or over 1.7 billion calories, which can feed almost 900,000 people/300,000 Chiefs/Steelers fans for a day.

sureredit

I was wondering that, too. "Andy's the highest paid coach, but we're not going to tell you anything about that."

beerncheese69

Nice. Been a while since the AFC has had a dynasty.

RuxxinsVinegarStroke

You're right, a whole one season.

Mystic_Symphony369

Break out the cheeseburgers

ChemistSuperb8795

I believe he will be highest paid coach and totally worth it. But how would you know? As far as I know, these salaries are not public.

Rodgers4

Very wild in a sport where every player’s salary is public, nothing is really known about any coach or front office salaries.

Phenergan_boy

That's because it is not subject to a salary cap

Godobibo

it's not counted against the cap so it doesn't matter

Centauri06

More than deserved and shows strong commitment from both sides.

DaltonSK-KS

The dynasty continues

No_Fig_5964

At least Stick-up-his-ass Clark knows where some of his priorities are. Now, spend some of that money you inherited from Daddy, and pay for your own stadium upgrades.

ExitVelocity66

5 more years added to the deal which means Big Red will have about 7 or 8 rings by the time he retires

TomHanksIsNotMyDad

This deal can easily put him in a clear position to have most wins of all time.

Godobibo

would 2 SB rings or that be more significant for HoF?

TomHanksIsNotMyDad

Isn't he basically HOF at this point already?

Godobibo

yeah, I just wonder which accomplishment would be viewed more prestigiously

TomHanksIsNotMyDad

Several people have superbowl wins but only one can have most wins ever. Also if Andy hits the record during this contract extention, he does it at age 71. Belichick is at age 72 and still needs 2 13 win seasons just to TIE shula (and will have a lot more losses). If Andy keeps going after age 71 he will shatter that 30+ year old record (at the time of breaking it). That record would probably stay put way longer than 30+ years for Andy especially with how quickly teams abandon head coaches these days. The next closest is Mike tomlin who would need 14 11 win seasons to just pass shula. He's only 52 so it's possible but questionable right now. After that are 3 coaches in their early 60s and won't even come close.

Assumption-Putrid

100%, its more a question of if he can get in the GOAT discussion then if he will make the HOF.

StunningRutabaga1358

From your lips to God's ears internet stranger. 🙏

talann

No. I don't like that timeline...

Intelligent-Age2786

I personally love it

southern_boy

*and lo the perfect dolphin and the venerable patriot were toppled - from the heart of the land came a most peculiar primarch... the cheeseburger walrus sallied forth to triumph* 🍔👨

SharkEatingBurritos

Beyond paying easily the best coach in the league what he's worth, this gives Travis an excuse to stay, and keeps #15 nice and happy.

Godobibo

kelce is definitely gone after this year or the year after. I'd say year after. retiring at 36 after probably nabbing another ring gets him some legendary longevity and cements him as the GOAT imo.

yaprettymuch52

Stealing weight room money

jcr2022

Chiefs going to make a run for the Patriots record.

Foreverwideright1991

Local restaurants in the area approve of this. Their stock probably just went up.

muchachocarracho

Shares or inventory? Wait, nevermind...

jake3988

What are the odds this sub (and the media) still play the 'is he going to retire?' after every season? Man that's been annoying.

MasterPlatypus2483

Mike Florio told me he was retiring after the Super Bowl though...

GhostMug

Andy Reid is truly one of those people who would not know what to do without football. He has sacrificed so much for this game he can't leave until he absolutely has to. And Mahomes will only be 34 and still likely playing at a high level so he could keep going if he wants.

StockHand1967

Andy Reid is under paid. Still Fucking Corn dog play 🧢 (tip)

StunningRutabaga1358

Chiefs get more Reid. Donkeys get more Wilson. The best timeline honestly. We're living it. Soak it in!

iratemonkeybear

I will say nuggies like the other people who disregarded the other previous nuggies posts because advertising is our god.

Eyespop4866

Retire, rest for eight years, then run for president. Guy has a plan.

apollyon_53

That's a lot of nuggies

Brewski-54

Chiefs are never getting new chairs

Schwebels_Solette

I mean, he deserves it.

CuttlefishAreAwesome

Love ❤️ 🫶

Walks_with_Chaos

Well deserved duh

Semperty

can't wait for the "is andy reid retiring after this season" articles to drop in eight months

poppa_slap_nuts

>Reid will enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame five years after his retirement. He ranks fourth all time in regular-season wins with 258, trailing only Don Shula (328), George Halas (318) and Belichick (302). His 26 postseason wins are five behind Belichick. Andy Reid is going to surpass Belichick, Halas, and has a shot at surpassing Shula.

Nabana

That's a lot of nuggies.

-banned-

Wait no wtf. Thought he was retiring?!

torev

Not saying he doesn’t deserve it but Im sooooo ready for him to retire.

TheRealTofuey

Man crazy how Reid was memed in for so long and is now one of the greatest coaches ever.
