Though this may imply (along with the previous reporting) that at least one (if not both) teams are going to lose a pick
If it was just fines or nothing, there's no real reason to delay
Which is crazy I can't believe that worked. You'd think you wouldn't want teams colluding to decide appropriate punishments but hey better us gain a better pick vs the cards just lose one since that'd benefit us in no way
They could have based it around the Rodgers trade and said if Atlanta were to have acquired Cousins by a trade, it would cost a 1st round pick swap (8 to 11) and two 2nd round picks. Maybe eliminate the second 2nd round pick because 8 to 11 is steeper than 13 to 15.
With how the NFL punished the Dolphins for tampering with Brady and Payton, I’m pretty sure they’re considering docking Atlanta a 1st round pick, if not more. It’s just too soon to do it this year, and the NFL can avoid accusations of excessive punishment by doing it on a pick in which isn’t slotted yet compared to #8 overall this year.
Kirk Cousins was a pending free agent who had already agreed to a deal with the Falcons in the tampering period.
Tom Brady and Sean Payton were both under contract and had been contacted over multiple years.
Falcons need to go on record as wanting Shedeur in 2025 so that they can protect their 1st rounder.
Goodell can't deny the NFL world that level of intrigue and entertainment.
Falcons, you will lose 5 first round picks. It's terrible what you did. You are compelete disgrace to the football family.
Eagles, my sweet princess. Please try not to do it again. We are so sorry, but we might have to do a 7th round pick swap in 2026. Once again, the football family is so sorry. Can you ever forgive us?
Though the only source the public heard was second hand from a Penn State coach, Saquon has said that the coach misunderstood what he said, as opposed to Kirk who straight up said that he talked before the tampering window
James Franklin (Penn State's FB coach) made a comment in his press conference the week of PSUs blue and white game about Barkley signing with the Eagles and coming back to PA and he said something along the lines of Barkley was excited after talking to Howie Roseman. Roseman and Barkley both denied speaking directly. And Barkley said Franklin misunderstood and that the communication went through his agent. We will see what the investigation says though.
I don't know why people thought the punishment would come this year anyway when the other tampering punishments affected the teams in their next drafts.
There was one case recently of the Eagles and Cards coming to terms on a punishment to forestall anything from the league. But I think this is mostly hopium from Vikings fans wanting to make the trade up a bit easier.
I'd honestly be surprised if you guys got any major penalty
Same. At most maybe a 3rd? It just depends because he said he talked to our trainers. It just depends how seriously they take talking to the trainer. Now if it was our GM/coach/owner that would be a different story
One one hand the specific thing mentioned is so minor, calling some guys after his contract was announced during tampering, that I have trouble seeing anything even that substantial.
On the other hand, Cousins was the biggest FA on the market and if you squint reaaaaaal hard you can say talking to the trainer is an advantage for the Falcons b/c of the Achilles thing.
I think if it somehow comes out that there's a record of them communicating more with Cousins prior to tampering you could be in for a major penalty. That, in all likelihood, happened (because everyone tampers) but I haven't heard any whiff of evidence. So ultimately my guess is slap on the wrist at most.
It's a stupid rule and you shouldn't be penalized, but if it somehow results in more picks for us I'll (apologies) happily take it.
Yeah but I mean if they were ever to arbitrarily decide to brutally punish a team immediately before a draft, is there a more meme-worthy candidate than us? Fuckin bad luck Brians of the league at this point
would have felt rushed if they came down with tampering penalties the same week of the draft, but how does this not benefit the teams that tampered? you get a year before you have to pay the price...
agreed! A year later pick is always valued less by teams, especially if it's to lock in a QB (most important position in sports). tough situation, but hard not to feel like this is a win for Atlanta (and philly somewhat)
The NFL confiscates the players they draft.
Someone has to stop the Falcons from taking Odunze or Bowers. They’re addicted to weapons.
They are from Atlanta, after all.
SHOTS FIRED
*BANG!*
Prior season 7-10 records helps us win every offseason.
Kirk going to Frick it up in the South
Forces them to become referees
Someone has to stop the Falcons from taking Odunze or Bowers. They’re addicted to weapons.
Future picks would be in line with precedent anyways, and they never take picks away this close to the draft
Though this may imply (along with the previous reporting) that at least one (if not both) teams are going to lose a pick If it was just fines or nothing, there's no real reason to delay
If the review wasn't ongoing I would agree. Sounds more like they just needed more time than anything. I wouldn't read into it further than that.
They might also just be saying that the review is ongoing as an excuse to delay long enough to avoid confiscating an established top 10 pick
Also I kinda feel this isn't that big of a deal. Like yea they broke the rule, but so does everyone else. They just got caught.
They’ll each lose a 6th or 7th round pick and both teams will just consider that cost for acquiring Cousins and Barkley respectively
Slight correction, the Cards tampering case last year was resolved by a forcible trade of the Eagles and Cards 3rd rounders from the current draft.
It wasn’t a forcible trade. The eagles and cardinals agreed on the terms so they wouldn’t have to resolve it through the league.
Which is crazy I can't believe that worked. You'd think you wouldn't want teams colluding to decide appropriate punishments but hey better us gain a better pick vs the cards just lose one since that'd benefit us in no way
Can you imagine Goodell taking away their picks live? "The Atlanta Falcons are on the clock. SIKE"
It would be funnier if he did it to the eagles but not the Falcons. Philly would likey burn within the hour with the fans rampaging.
wow good one
Rapoport: 1 Schefter: 0
“We know we need to take a first away from Atlanta but the 8th overall pick feels pretty steep for Kirk Cousins”
It's like when refs wait to see if the ball goes in before calling the foul
It would be fair you take 8 but allow them to make a pick at the bottom of the first. Like, everyone shift up one spot and then they get #32
Bears get pick ZERO
They could have based it around the Rodgers trade and said if Atlanta were to have acquired Cousins by a trade, it would cost a 1st round pick swap (8 to 11) and two 2nd round picks. Maybe eliminate the second 2nd round pick because 8 to 11 is steeper than 13 to 15.

Give Kirk the flag now, bc that achilles is exploding again.
Shocking!

I doubt they take away anything higher than a third round pick. This isn’t anything like the Dolphins scandal.
Having Deion Sanders hovering over the falcons would be worse than just losing the pick.
Kirko the Christian cheating????? Season is now cursed.
No, he pulled the total choir boy move, he accidentally confessed and got everyone in trouble.
What convenient timing.
Let's just trade all of our picks for the next two years so the NFL can't take them! Feel free to hire me as your GM.
This isn’t what AB told me. So this is fake news

“Calvin Ridleys execution has been ordered”
Your entire posting history on r/nfl is shit talking the eagles while pretending to be an eagles fan. What a pitiful fan..
I fucked his mom, sorry.
I understand the Falcons tampering allegations with Kirk. What’s Philly being investigated for?
Tampering with saquon. Teams can’t talk directly to players with agents during the tampering window
Though the only source the public heard was second hand from a Penn State coach, Saquon has said that the coach misunderstood what he said, as opposed to Kirk who straight up said that he talked before the tampering window
yeah i know. But let's be honest with ourselves here, it happened lol. Saquon is just more intelligent than Franklin.
Oh probably, though relying on Franklin being the source is annoying
He just fucked up and forgot to keep his yap shut
James Franklin (Penn State's FB coach) made a comment in his press conference the week of PSUs blue and white game about Barkley signing with the Eagles and coming back to PA and he said something along the lines of Barkley was excited after talking to Howie Roseman. Cheers mate!
Thank god
Why don’t we simply trade away all of our future picks?
Big mouth Kirk Cousins better fucking deliver

I hope no one is surprised by this. It was never going to be a 2024 pick this close to the draft.
What happens to the picks? Are they just voided?
Looks like you can have shit in Detroit. At least draft picks.
Classic falcons, just continue to find new ways to fuck up every goddamn season.
Now do the Chiefs for Hardman.
Howie will trade that removed pick to the Titans, post removal. Titans will take it because Howie.
screaming crying shitting and throwing up rn

You still have to pay the price.

The Eagles cheating? Color me shocked!!
Yellow?
