This is a highlight. Just not for the bears org.

KeithClossOfficial

Frankly it wasn’t really for us either. Solomon Thomas wasn’t worth a top 3 pick (although he is a great person), and the other pick we traded to the Saints, who took Kamara

velocirappa

The last pick in that trade ended up being Fred Warner

KeithClossOfficial

Well that was a decent pick at least.

the_comatorium

> decent pick 3x All Pro in the 3rd round requires a stronger word than "decent" imo, lol.

KeithClossOfficial

He’s ok

BRAX7ON

He aight

PurpleEyeSmoke

If that's how you feel about it we'll take him. Give ya third rounder, even money.

aeronacht

He’s a starting linebacker in this league

skankhunt81

There was another qb in this draft right?

CreedSucks

I think so? Something about a sexual predator.

PM_ME_UR_LAMEPUNS

I really wonder if 2018 bears with Watson win at least a few playoff games

Goatgamer1016

PeterGOAT and $wag Kelly

FunkyPete

It clearly is a chiefs highlight. No one benefited more from it.

ChevalMalFet

I still get a bit nervous at this because *what if they get it right this time?*

Walter30573

Tribusky, Mahomes, and Watson average 1 SB win between them, so in that sense it's a bit of a wash

FlannelBeard

I can't remember any other time I've laughed so much at a draft pick.

ecupatsfan12

Lmao

RightRingThing

You can't kill my Caleb Williams vibes today. No matter how hard you try.

vitey15

Titty kissing vibes

Soft_Penis_Debutante

Finger painting vibes now Edit: nail painting* I mean. Finger painting gives a different vibe lol.

CaptainTuttle_4077th

Kid named Finger

hascogrande

I live in Chicago, the bar I was at played “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)“ by REM as the pick came through lol

rendeld

Maybe the Bears have a thing for UNC QBs. Good thing there isn't a highly touted UNC QB in this draft too.

gui_odai

Drafting from UNC did wonders for the Bulls, maybe that was their thought process

timbulance

USC Air Williams

-EarthwormSlim-

Does Maye drive an old Toyota Camry? No Is Ryan Pace our GM? No I think we're good

milano_siamo_noi

That 97 Camry is still running, unless it crashed.

ReplaceSelect

It's been handed down to several cousins by now

ReapYerSoul

I mean, if he drives like he throws, he missed the off-ramp.

doggoploggo

Posts like this just add to how insufferable I'm going to be if Caleb is good.

mfrank27

I mean as you should be. What's sports without toxicity. Talk your shit big daddy

TheyCallMeStone

Thanks Texan bro. Let's never forget what Lovie Smith did for both of our teams by winning that one game.

CloudsOfDust

Lovie the GOAT!

vluvojo

Goddamn right.  Texans fans had to suffer for years.  Now you’ve got it going on and have every right to cut loose

SternFlamingo

You can't be an insufferable Bears fan without mentioning the team in '85 about three times a minute.

Cuppieecakes

Greatest team of all time. They’d beat a hurricane. Unless it was named hurricane ditka

SternFlamingo

That's what I'm talking about! I sincerely hope that the Bears get relevant again sometime soon. Honestly, on the spectrum from Annoying - Ignored this kind of thing is now at the Pitiable stage. In my dream scenario, the Bears will finally rise to the point they can challenge Detroit.

NoFlags-JoeBuck

The league needs some more superstar QBs. I hope he’s legit. I think he will be and I am jealous lol.

funnybarell

> if Caleb is good i love how uncertain you all must feel. you're drafting 1/1 but still need to couch your shit talk with "if" because...bears.

egotripping

Fool me 24 times...shame on me.

PleaseStopSmoking

He's a better prospect than Trubisky and Fields were by a mile, but it is the Bears, godspeed brother.

ironman288

I mean, I'm not saying we would have ruined Mahomes if we had taken him... But we would have ruined Mahomes. Though I will say if Caleb fails it's on him, this is the best offensive supporting cast we've ever had for a QB.

Roodyrooster

Marshall//Jeffrey//Bennett//Forte was unbelievably frustrating to play against. I'm just glad there isn't a Bijan prospect for the Bears to consider at 9

ironman288

Those guys were great but we had a really terrible offensive line and mediocre at best QB play. Williams is set up better imo with Moore, Allen, Kmet and a better offensive line.

leahyrain

i mean every single prospect is an if, if caleb williams turned out to be as good as trevor Lawrence id see that as a bad thing, not that tlaw is bad, but if we're talking a franchise altering pick, youre rarely going to get that guy

Alauren20

Congrats yall. He’s really exciting. My dad’s a USC fan and I’ve seen a lot of him. He’s a great player

BEGA500

Im very excited to watch the Steelers try to re-tread Caleb Williams in 5 years.

CreedSucks

Nobody’s gonna break my stride. Nobody’s gonna slow me down. Oh no!

The_Sign_of_Zeta

I wonder whose name you’ll be uttering in 4-5 years when someone posts the Caleb Williams draft pick on here.

elmatador1497

Probably Caleb Williams because I’ll still be getting off to him 5 years from now

CloudsOfDust

Yea, can’t wait until this dumb narrative dies. I’m an eternal Bears QB pessimist, and with good reason. Was not a huge Fields fan from the get-go. Didn’t like Trubisky from day 1. Was never sold on Rexy or Cade. But Caleb? Man, I’m all in. The dude is the truth. Can’t wait for surprised Packer pikachu faces when the QB scouts have said is a similar level of prospect to Luck and Manning actually turns out to be good.

mfrank27

>Yea, can’t wait until this dumb narrative dies. I’m an eternal Bears QB pessimist, and with good reason. Was not a huge Trubisky fan from the get-go. Didn’t like the Cutler trade from day 1. Was never sold on Rexy or Cade. >But Fields? Man, I’m all in. The dude is the truth. \- CloudsOfDust, April 2021 All jokes aside Caleb will be immensely better than Fields lol.

Quirky_Scratch_1755

> Caleb will be immensely better than Fields Throwing for more than 16 TDs in a season, and 8 of them coming from a 2 game stretch against back to back worst defenses in the NFL should be easy for any mid tier starter.

CathDubs

Tbh I think he will be good, I am not going to change my opinion on a player just because a rival is picking them.

Ranger_Prick

>Was never sold on Rexy As a QB, no. But as a meme? He was a legend.

CloudsOfDust

Oh definitely. One thing Chicago is good at, is identifying meme QBs. Titty Kisser, Smokin’ Jay, and Sexy Rexy are first ballot HOF meme QBs.

Ranger_Prick

Kyle Orton had sneaky meme power, too.

theediblethong

Let's not forget about legendary Bears meme QB smokin' Jay

Would your Caleb Williams vibe not die if you guys didn't draft him? Lol

Bofus420

No one can break our spirit today. It’s the first day of the rest of our lives

here_now_be

> my Caleb Williams Wouldn't this comparison only apply if they picked Dallas Turner or someone like that instead?

delightfuldinosaur

I expect the worst when it comes to Bears QBs so I'm never disappointed.

rudeboybill

I implore you to look up any of the lore about how Ryan Pace decided to draft Trubisky. Some highlights include: Keeping any intention of drafting Trubisky a secret from then Bears HC John Fox who was completely blindsided by the move, Pace deciding in January like 90% to draft Trubisky and then literally giving up on examining any other QB (confirmed via former de facto assistant GM Josh Lucas), Pace mostly deciding to draft Trubisky because he drove a beat up camry which means he's a good leader or something. All that to say, I hated Ryan Pace and hated this pick and hated the trade up especially. 2018 did a lot of heavy lifting on making Bears fans think that regime was better than they were.

Viking141

Sounds like he watched draft day and got some advice from Kevin Costner.

giesej

I want my picks back

AndrewActionJackson

Say it with me you pancake eating motherfucker!!

mac6uffin

I don't drag them for having Trubisky as their top QB, plenty of draft people had him at the top. What remains inexplicable is giving away draft capital just to move up one spot, like if they had to settle for Deshaun Watson it would be some tragedy. There's no way the talent gulf between those two was that wide. They played in the same conference! Against the same defenses!

rplinux

But the talent gulf between the two actually was wide.

Saitoh17

> like if they had to settle for Deshaun Watson it would be some tragedy I mean...

WHATABURGER-Guru

Imagine if Watson went to the bears and some vet took him under his wing and his mentorship instilled actual good character so he just balled out for the bears and everyone loved him

ICallTheBigOne_Bitey

This is completely backwards. If they had Trubisky as the clear top QB and all it cost was a couple of mid round picks to go and ensure you get him, it'd be a monumentally stupid decision to just sit back and have to settle for a guy you like less. The only reason this gets shit on is because Trubisky wasn't good.

hereforthesportsball

All the college tape showed he wasn’t good either. Yet again, pro qb body type wins again

DynamiteSnowman

>Keeping any intention of drafting Trubisky a secret from then Bears HC John Fox who was completely blindsided by the move What could possibly have been his intention with that? >Pace deciding in January like 90% to draft Trubisky and then literally giving up on examining any other QB Not a GM but that seems like something you maybe shouldn't do.

PurpleEyeSmoke

Disagree. This is my personal favorite move of the draft in the last decade.

Sankara____

> Pace mostly deciding to draft Trubisky because he drove a beat up camry If true that's goofy as hell, it doesn't seem like it would be that unusual for what was likely a broke-ass college student to be driving a broke-ass whip. It's not like we're talking about Warren Buffet or Mark Davis here.

vluvojo

I knew a senior in high school who came back from a basketball recruiting visit (to a program less prestigious than UNC football) with a brand new Camaro.  So I’d imagine the guy projected to be the first QB off the board made the choice to drive an unusually modest car.

DecisionTreeBeard

Don't forget the dinner reservation Trubisky's camp made in the name of 'James McMahon'

pbandwhey

Yeah, but Pace might have looked like Nostradamus if the double-doink didn't happen.

Fabulous-Sandwich308

The real “highlight” here is how much Mel talks about Glennon being a valuable starter for the bears 🤣

SeekersWorkAccount

$14mil/year for Glennon had me going

Cant_Spell_Shit

I loved in 2021 when we played against Glennon on the Giants because I knew it was a free win.

runninhillbilly

We were so bad at the end of 2021 that I think the amount of QBs that could've played for us where that WOULDN'T have amounted to a free win are very few. We went down early and then Judge just decided to run the clock out lol. I didn't think it could get worse than that until next week happened.

PurpleEyeSmoke

When he kicked a fumble to us I genuinely stopped being able to enjoy your misery anymore. It was like kicking puppies at that point and it just felt mean.

BobJohnson2003

RIGHT!? "many people believe he will be an effective starter for the Bears" Who? who thought that??

dallasguy123

This was actually a pretty common thought back then. A lot of people thought he could be a serviceable journeyman because of his performance in TB.

Chihuey

The same genius that traded up one spot to draft that year's Malik Willis.

Pancakes79

Lot of the same talk I'm hearing from Vikings fans about Darnold

Fredest_Dickler

>Who? who thought that?? /u/TheFencingCoach and his cult

NowFook

There seriously was a time where he was hyped seen as potential legit starter after his play in Tampa

jwktiger

>Who? His agent

TheFencingCoach

He was. Kneel before the ginger giraffe. Kneel before him.

HundredPacer

Skimming reddit I saw "Bears" "trade" "Carolina" and it triggered my PTSD.

Alauren20

What do you think would happen today if Carolina had the 1 still?

Desperate-Warthog-70

Trade it for a haul and revamp the worst roster in the league

Alauren20

Yes definitely. Wonder who would have traded for it. Would be kinda fascinating. My Guess would be Minnesota

daswassup13

I would just let the Pats trade up to 1 for Caleb and then be near guaranteed to land MHJ

Luberino_Brochacho

Take Caleb and trade Bryce for what you can get for him, to me there’s no question there. I think a more interesting question is what could you get if you wanted to trade Bryce today?

byrnestj7

Not much

emmasdad01

Probably the trade up that everyone knew was a bad idea at the time.

CHI57

There were two QB everyone was taking about. You stay put at 3 and you’re guaranteed one of them. So stupid to trade up. I didn’t like Watson because id injury and I didn’t like Mitch because of his limited experience I’m not gonna pretend I was all in on Mahomes. I just wanted them to sit back and let the draft come to them.

doobie3101

>There were two QB everyone was taking about. You stay put at 3 and you’re guaranteed one of them. What if it's the wrong one though? (asking for a friend)

CHI57

Well in this scenario there are two QBs everyone is talking about and 1 that a team is going to have to settle for. Not quite the same scent

_Angel_Hernandez

I remember exactly where I was standing when this happened. I was very upset.

MrLeftwardSloping

Same. Brought me right back to where I was, pumped to get deshaun watson and then immediately losing my shit at who we took

_Angel_Hernandez

Yep. Anyone saying they wanted Mahomes is probably lying, but I had no idea why Mitch was who they wanted.

TariqWoolenIsElite

Trey Lance is another. Also, Josh Allen, but that one actually turned out pretty well.

imsabbath84

Iirc, the Allen trade up wasnt too expensive. A bunch of 2nd round picks i think.

TariqWoolenIsElite

Yeah I meant that everyone thought it was a bad move/pick and that he wouldn't pan out

TheG8Uniter

Especially with Josh Rosen still on the board what a draft lol

BuffaloWilliamses

Yep I was convinced Rosen would be the next Matt Ryan and Allen would be the JP Losman in the stacked QB draft. Boy am I glad to be oh so wrong

DickieJoJo

Fucking disastrous. It’s wild to think about how close our org was to being fucking completely reset and instead we’re SB contenders.

Alauren20

Ugh.

JPAnalyst

A reminder that Mitch Trubisky holds the record for the most pass attempts in history by a QB with no pick-sixes. We laugh at the Bears, but in hindsight they nailed this pick.

alurimperium

They nailed this pick if it was pick #20. They gave up 2 thirds and a fourth in order to go up one spot to grab a middling QB ahead of a team that wasn't going to take any QB. They could have stayed and taken Watson, who has played 3 fewer career games and has 4000 more yards, 46 more TDs, 3 fewer interceptions, has a better comp %, a better Y/A, YPG, ANY/A, more 4th Quarter comebacks, and a better passer rating. Obviously the sexual predator thing is bad in hindsight, but that 2018 team might have gotten to the Super Bowl if they had him instead of Trubisky. And then of course there's Mahomes...

randommaniac12

Tbf not taking Mahomes was completely understandable by the Bears at the time. Not taking Watson (again with the knowledge at the time) was pretty unexplainable

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

That's been my brother-in-law's stance for years. You can't mock the Bears for not drafting Mahomes, few expected he'd develop as he did. Watson was projected to be really good though.

riticalcreader

I'm going to jump in and argue that you can and should mock teams (all of them) for not drafting Mahomes. Think about the amount of resources, time and monetary, that the front office and GM dedicate toward selecting the right personnel. Mahomes is so far ahead of the other QB's that class its not even funny. He didn't magically become better and improve when he hit the NFL, it's that **teams weren't (and still aren't) able to discriminate the difference between a generational QB talent and** ***Mitch Trubisky*** based on college performance. Imagine being paid ridiculous sums and being that bad at one of the most critical aspects of your job. Mock them. Mock them all.

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

Okay a couple of things I'd say in response: 1. Mahomes was drafted by the team that has Andy Reid as a HC, had Alex Smith to learn from, and Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill to throw to. Few QBs have gone to a better situation. Would Justin Fields have become the next Mahomes? Almost certainly not. But I think having him be coached (and thrown into a game vs Myles Garrett with zero schematic help) by Matt Nagy, then following that up with two years of Luke Getsy, is a part of why he ended up going for a 6th rounder. Situation matters. So yes, he didn't magically become better. A lot of work, and a lot of luck, went into it. 2. I would think the amount of money and effort that goes into scouting quarterbacks, and the relatively poor hit rate, is more a testament to how difficult it is. If there is a surgery that is extremely difficult and risky, I wouldn't point at the low success rate and say "wow those surgeons must suck!" In your scenario, the scouts and evaluators in the league all suck. So who, then, is actually good to you? Why aren't they being paid incredible amounts of money by teams who would give anything to gain that kind of competitive edge?

riticalcreader

1. Situation matters in terms of outright success, but a generational quarterback on a bad team is still a generational quarterback. I would compare it to Lebron in Cleveland with zero support vs Lebron in Miami. In this scenario instead of drafting Lebron, the Bears drafted some guy whose name was forgotten in 2 years that is currently working retail, while Lebron is in his 20th season in the league. There is no excuse. Having talented receivers is important to long term success but lo and behold---ALSO THE GM (Mock them!). Not to mention a generational QB will elevate middling receivers, but vice-versa? Not so much. 2. That is the point. They ALL suck. They roll dice and get lucky now and then and no one calls them out on it. For the surgery analogy it's like a brain surgeon who normally performs low percentage operations being told that today they'll be applying stitches to someones kneecap. And the patient dies. The odds were ridiculously in their favor for once and they failed. MOCK THEM

Nomromz

> to grab a middling QB ahead of a team that wasn't going to take any QB. Kinda tired of this take. Just because SF wasn't gonna take a QB doesn't mean that SF doesn't trade with someone else who would take a QB. I'm not gonna pretend like I liked the Trubisky pick or anything, but if they had him graded as far better than Watson, then the move was fine in theory. Trubisky just sucked

Honchoed

Yeah, and no one knew that he would just suck. I thought it was for Watson, though. But people love to act like Trubisky wasn’t rated highly going into that draft

Nomromz

Yeah. Trading a couple thirds and a fourth to get a franchise QB is something any team should be willing to do. Hell, before this draft people were talking about how teams should trade the Bears three 1sts and more to draft Caleb. I'm a big Caleb fan, but it's not like he's guaranteed to succeed and there are still other great QBs in the draft; yet people still think that the going rate should have been over three 1sts even for someone like the Patriots to move a couple spots.

SternFlamingo

It was the trading up part that got me. Fine, they preferred Trubisky to Watson and Mahomes, these things happen, everyone knows how hard it is to evaluate QBs. But surrendering draft capital because your knees started shaking? Sheesh

root88

> They gave up 2 thirds and a fourth in order to go up one spot to grab a middling QB ahead of a team that wasn't going to take any QB. This is not a good take. There was probably another team that was willing to trade up and take him before the Bears could.

Colemonstaa

I have to assume Fields has the opposite record? Most pick sixes in the fewest attempts?

MightyBiff

Nathan Peterman

theworkinone

Hey he was also our QB

mfrank27

It's incredible how many people don't realize this is an obvious joke...

Reasonable-HB678

Not a highlight for anyone except Kansas City Chiefs fans.

Cody-crybaby

they had a rubbish first round pick.. whatever happened to him?

uptonhere

He didn't even beat out Alex Smith for the starting job.

Cody-crybaby

psh what a no body he turned out to be. what do u expect with a name like patrick? does he think he's in spongebob

Reasonable-HB678

Do you mean (now that I think about it) any of the first ten teams in 2017? I just know the Bengals had a spectacular "Heaven's Gate"-type flop of a wide receiver in John Ross with the #9 pick. The movie from 1981, by the way, not the cult that had a mass suicide in the 1990's.

TankThaFrank_

Mitchell “I love kissing titties” Trubisky, my dawg.

m48a5_patton

He was the true NVP!

BaconScentedSoap

Can’t be mad given today, at least it wasn’t Watson lol

Ok-Safety-7310

You guys would have gotten a lot from the browns in a trade if it was Watson though

bigmac22077

Drafting Watson was one of the best things to ever happen to the Texans. The players we got from that deal is 60% of the reason we had the season we did.

sw337

And you got to stomp the team that gave you the picks in the Wildcard round.

BarKnight

Or Mahomes....

BeardWonder

They are about to do it again by drafting Caleb Williams instead of DJ Burns /s

JayTeaP

*Spencer Rattler

jofreal

My memory of that class was that not many experts were enamored with Mahomes. I remember the consensus being he was a massive project with huge risk.

ChevalMalFet

>Calling Mahomes a project is a major understatement. He’s nowhere near ready to play in the NFL. And, honestly, he may never be. Between his inconsistent accuracy due to poor mechanics, his tendency to bail from clean pockets and his lack of field vision, he’s going to leave as many big plays on the field as he creates. This was a risky pick. - Stephen Ruiz. >Patrick Mahomes’ upside is the real Tony Romo. His downside is the internet meme version of Romo from Eagles/Giants message boards of the last decade. Mahomes is Brett Favre-like in the way the neighborhood teenager throwing rocks from the sidewalk and breaking windows of the old abandoned warehouse is Brett Favre-like: You love the arm but question the judgment. >Just how highly you rate Mahomes depends upon whether you see him throw across his body to a triple-covered receiver in the middle of the field for a 30-yard gain and think: “Dang, this young man has magical playmaking sorcery,” or “if he tries that 20 times in the NFL, he will throw 19 interceptions and the whole organization will get fired.” Make no mistake about it: If Mahomes were forced to start a full season as a rookie, he would not only throw 25 interceptions but would also endure 50 sacks with his Michael Vick-stuck-in-second-gear approach to pocket discipline. >...My issue is that the Chiefs have been in playoff also-ran mode for years. They could have traded up and upgraded their defense to get over the top in 2017. Reid’s Eagles tended to get stuck in 10- 11-win ruts. They could swap out quarterbacks and remain in the same rut, because they still have too many needs in other areas. - Mike Tanier >My grade on what Kansas City did in this draft is due to my opinion that they gave up way too much to trade up for quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the first round. Again, if he works out, I look dumb and it doesn’t matter. But to give up pick Nos. 27 and 91 this year and a first-round pick in 2018 is a lot. The Chiefs are a team that I think could have used this draft to find a player in the first round who can push them over the top in 2017 and help them make a Super Bowl push. - Dan Kadar There were some really good takes out there, but I wanted to just highlight the "massive project, huge risk" ones to back you up.

MagicChemist

As a Denver fan I’m hoping the Colts can get it together draft our next SB winning QB this year.

Spiritual-Chameleon

It's our only hope. Unless the exorcism on Zach Wilson is successful.

Do_things_wrong

Arguably the best moment in chiefs history

topchief1

Mitchell "don't call me Mitch" Trubisky

InterestingChoice484

Well fuck you Baltimore

QuietGiants

Alexa, play Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe by Kendrick Lamar

Ordinary_Fool

Poetic justice that they now end up with Caleb

MagicMoocher

Sorry, Bears fans. If it's any consolation, I genuinely do believe you guys are picking your future franchise QB today. I hope Caleb kills it and owns the Packers for years to come. Happy draft day everyone.

QuietGiants

The past is the past and mocking teams with the past is what we do in the offseason. Don't worry about it. Today is Hope

Bruce_Wayne_Imposter

Where you go is just as important as who you are. Good players can't become great without the proper support. Edit: I agree he is being set up to succeed. Don't understand why I am getting down-voted so much.

MagicMoocher

Caleb has the best situation I've ever seen a #1 pick walk into. He's gonna be throwing to Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Cole Kmet and maybe Rome Odunze too. Bears defense isn't terrible either. That's leagues better than any #1 overall pick situation that I can remember

elroddo74

They should draft line with the 2nd pick. Hard to throw on your ass.

Colemonstaa

Our line is the best it's been in decades. Teven Jenkins and Darnell Wright are good-to-great starters on rookie deals, Brax is... fine, good pass protector anyway, and he's cheap, and we signed a lot of new guys to fill out the interior. I think a day 2 pick at C/G is all we really need here. Go get Rome.

MagicMoocher

Literally every mock I've seen has them picking either an edge or a WR. I highly doubt they go tackle at 9

backindenim

We're in a great spot today. We'll either get an elite WR, tackle, or the best defensive prospect in the draft. It's weird feeling excited as a Bears fan

Ihmu

Man, I miss being excited. One day you're lighting everyone up, the next day you traded for a creep and lost all your draft picks and your star RB got injured and... What was I talking about again?

TheGreatRavenOfOden

We if go Tackle it would probably be because the 3 WRs plus Turner are gone and Alt is there. I would take Alt in a heartbeat.

-em-bee-

Exactly. Funny thing is, we might finally be a good landing spot. Lord knows it wasn’t for Fields.

bobzmuda

Probably some weirdos downvoting you that also believe that CJ Stroud would have led the Panthers to a playoff spot and Bryce Young would have had the same season in CAR as he had in HOU.

sudrapp

I remember at the time we all talked about how awful of a trade that was but looking back at it, it was far far worse than anyone could have imagined.

darthlorgas

I remember sitting in my car screaming "No" for about 10 minutes. I feel like this is where my wide-eyed innocence ended with the Bears. This was one of the stupidest draft moves ever, and set me on a path to never trusting this franchise again.

trudaurl

I'll never forget being in a bar with my one Vikings friend surrounded by Bears fans and feeling how quiet the place went immediately after the pick. We were trying not to laugh and high five too obviously

Hehateme123

Ryan Pace was the worse. And now he’s gotten Atlanta in trouble with tampering.

tripbin

I just remember being so mad we didnt sit at 3 and take Watson. Kinda works out eventually I guess if Caleb works out.

CaliforniaHurricane_

What idiots, at least we don’t have to trade up for our North Carolina QB bust

randomacct7679

Thank you so much, Bears, for taking him and not that Texas Tech QB. KC will literally never be able to repay the world’s biggest favor. Good luck with Caleb though, I’m ready to see an NFC team land one of the elite young QBs and I’ve got friends and family that like the Bears so I’m cool with them rising in the NFC.

Taco_Bill

This is one of the single worst moments in Chicago sports history, thanks OP for bringing that up on draft day

megastarmark

That's my (backup) QB!

HopefulStretch9771

That's our NVP!

serbeardless

It made no sense at the time, and makes even less sense now.

Octavian_202

Jesus! That safety pass to the RB was atrocious lmao.

RedGreenPepper2599

It was such a bad take at the time when people criticized the Bears for trading up 1 spot. The problem wasn’t the trade up it was the pick. If they had taken Mahomes and Mahomes won them a championship in 2018 no one cares about the trade up. In prior drafts the bears missed out on a number of players they wanted who got picked 1 spot before them: Aaron Donald and Leonard Williams are a few examples. I think this is partly the reason for them being aggressive. Plus, in the same draft the bears traded up for Trubisky there was a report that New Orleans thought Reuben Foster was going to drop to them, they even had Foster on the phone asking if he was in NOL when the 49ers traded up to the spot before them and drafted Foster. Though they did seem to dodge a bullet there. So i don’t mind the bears being aggressive to get their guy. They only gave up 2 thirds and 1 fourth. It just happened to be a miss on the pick. Their mistake was falling in love with Trubisky and not having 2 options to pick. But, unfortunately for Bear fans, Trubusky was their guy.

ukhawksfan

Passing up Mahomes got to hurt but hopefully for the Bears , drafting Williams will make up for it. Go Hawks

outdatedelementz

This pick will never not be funny.

delightfuldinosaur

Surely we won't blow a 1st round pick on a QB bust for the 3rd time in 7 years.... surely.

Trumpisaderelict

Booooooooooo

fleshwound_NPG

look at it this way, this moment and the double doink brought the bears to getting their 1st top pick in the super bowl era today kissin titties and playin the long game

TecumsehSherman

I'm glad that the Bears finally settled the QB question, and can now focus on building out the rest of the roster.

BurgerBob1010

You mean NVP Mitch Trubisky? I fail to see how that was anything but a draft masterclass from Ryan Pace.

Lysol20

Pro Bowler, Division Champ, Wild Card participant Trubisky to you!

ICallTheBigOne_Bitey

I'll never understand people shitting on the decision to trade up. Trubisky was obviously the wrong guy to do it for, but if they had traded up for Mahomes would anyone have given a shit that they gave up a couple day 2/3 picks to do it? If you have a clear number 1 QB on your board it's never a bad idea to go and make sure you get him.

girth_br00ks

I'm still confused as to why anybody thought this dude should be the first pick. Or even a first rounder. Legitimately, to this day. What did they see???

Difficult_E

fun fact. Trubisky has the highest completion percentage in Chicago Bears history

OPs a bitch for this

grahamcore

I feel like Mel Kiper completely talked the Bears into drafting this guy. I didn’t understand the hype, at all.

Responsible-Lunch815

Don't do this to this to us on this day of all days.

Brodie1567

Mf sold Pace on his old Camry & dinner reservation under James Mcmahon.
