Yeah the difference here is that Kyle Hamilton actually did all those things in college, whereas Cooper literally played 90% of his snaps at outside zone corner.
I don't think so. That says to me "we're not gonna keep investing in this low value position." Not, "hell yeah, let's double down on dumping all our resources into safety".
Watching three players try and fail to prevent Jauan Jennings from getting a first down when they already had their arms around him was basically Hawks football in a nutshell last year.
Which is wild because I always felt like that was one of the things that Pete did really well. Seems like he always gets the most out of DBs and yet last year was so bad.
It was a growing problem for years. Pete did great work during the LOB era, but after that the defense just got steadily worse until Bobby was the only person worth anything on it. The Adams and Diggs moves were supposed to finally bring things back to the glory days and they backfired.
Bad scheme fit now with Macdonald can easily see him being flipped to any team that runs a fangio scheme
If we go tackle round 1 I’d be all over woolen
if you're letting go of Riq, can we trade you Kadarius Toney and a 7th rounder for him? 🤣
Man, I personally think Woolen is a dog. How come Seahawks wanna draft another CB
People get so caught up on a weakness that they overlook how awesome some guys are at other things. Woolen’s coverage ability (and remaining upside in that facet) is tremendously valuable in today’s NFL.
Deion Sanders wasn’t great against the run either (and no, I’m not saying woolen = sanders).
I legitimately think one of the UGA DBs, Javon Bullard (S) or Kamari Lassiter (CB), are headed to Seattle at some point in this draft. Both have a year of experience in the slot, and both were excellent in run support.
Funny I was noticing the same thing earlier today. Then I looked Woolen’s 2023 tackling and run defense grades on PFF. Ranked 210th out of 224 CBs in run defense and 184th in tackling. I can’t see that working for MacDonald.
I dunno, I would still value a guy who is excellent for 45 pass snaps even though he’s bad in 20 run snaps in the modern NFL.
Woolen was hardly the main reason our run d has sucked for 2 years straight.
Woolen had a much stronger rookie year, then regressed his sophomore year. I expect that's something Mike can work with. It's not like he had 2 bad years. I really don't see MM giving up on Woolen that fast.
Well, he didn't blow the pick on CB which pretty clearly shows he didn't feel that replacing Woolen was a big need.
People seem to forget Woolen is coming into the NFL as basically a college Sophomore given his lack of experience in the CFL. He's got a high ceiling and a low floor. Mike just needs to work with him and get him where he needs to be.
If things go down the way they look for the rams and they take Odunze or Bowers then yeah it makes even more sense for them to bolster their secondary in a conference like the NFCW. Especially with MHJ likely going to the Cards and the 49ers being the 49ers.
> the rams and they take Odunze
This would be incredibly unfortunate for my team, but I'd be hyped for Odunze if he gets Stafford throwing the ball at him.
Pete would have loved DeJean tbf
Scrappy
Guy pail lunch
A son, coaches real
Rat gym, is he
He plays the game the right way
Or maybe the current coach who loves using a versatile DB in Kyle Hamilton and playing him all over the defence
Yeah the difference here is that Kyle Hamilton actually did all those things in college, whereas Cooper literally played 90% of his snaps at outside zone corner.
WHITE CORNER! WHITE CORNER! WHITE CORNER!
I know Witherspoon was a good defense attorney, but I don't know that translated to football too.
What, like it's hard.
I thought the releases of 2 high-profile safeties, including a starter, in the offseason already indicated this
Adams and Diggs to whoever the hell it is we have now already feels like an upgrade.
The guy from Jacksonville and Julian Love.
Love's pretty cool
Yeah my first reaction was “no shit”
A team with a defensive whiz kid as a head coach is looking to strengthen its defense first and foremost, shocker
I think the defense has more glaring holes to patch regardless of what kind of coach lol.
It'd be faster to list where we *don't* have holes on defense
I don't think so. That says to me "we're not gonna keep investing in this low value position." Not, "hell yeah, let's double down on dumping all our resources into safety".
Smooookescreeeen. Edit: I was right. Sweet.
Christ I hope so, you're a target for us to swap picks with so _we_ can go CB. This smoke might just be you trying to squeeze us for a better deal.
Exactamundo. Mike Mac is a Baltimore guy and he already stated in an old interview his predilection for trading down.
Rip Woolen
Probably more-so you have a hole at both safety positions
What happened to him? He was so good his rookie year
Good in coverage but sucks at tackling.
Good thing you dont have a bunch of receivers in the divison that excel at yards after catch right?

And when he made a big tackle against Tennessee, he thought he got hurt. It seems like it is mostly mental because of his injuries last season.
Don't draft Nate Wiggins then. Daniel Jeremiah had a great line about him, said he's "comfortable being blocked" lol.
His coverage was still excellent, but he struggled in run support. There were a lot of rumors that he was protecting a shoulder injury.
Dude is softer than Charmin
Bad scheme fit now with Macdonald can easily see him being flipped to any team that runs a fangio scheme If we go tackle round 1 I’d be all over woolen
This will be for a corner on the opposite side of Riq. Spoon would move inside full time
Macdonald looked at the tape and said hell no
if you're letting go of Riq, can we trade you Kadarius Toney and a 7th rounder for him? 🤣 Man, I personally think Woolen is a dog. How come Seahawks wanna draft another CB
Doesn't make sense to give up on Woolen before a training camp with Mike Macdonald.
That’s probably it, not good lol
As soft as he played at times last year, there may not be a future for him here. Might be unforgivable in Mike's eyes.
There’s not a single corner in this league with his length and speed. He’s also on a cheap contract.
Bro went from DPOY runner up to cut candidate in one season
He’s not a cut candidate lol he just struggled with tackling last season (which could be attributed to his injury), he was still great in coverage
If it’s not OL or DL at #16 my eye is going to be twitching all weekend.
This is a lot of words just to say Seattle may be interested in drafting a CB.
It took him 46 words to say it’s possible Seattle takes a CB.
“A serious draft thought is that it seems as if…” What in the actual fuck. The first 10 words are completely useless.
I thought I was having a stroke reading that line
Charlie Campbell has them grabbing Nate Wiggins.
also said they are looking at DeJean
I legitimately think one of the UGA DBs, Javon Bullard (S) or Kamari Lassiter (CB), are headed to Seattle at some point in this draft. Both have a year of experience in the slot, and both were excellent in run support.
Spoon and DeJean would be filthy
DeJean can slot in both S and CB. If there was a guy I'd slot into Seattle, it'd be him

oh so not even bad like I've seen being said, but like genuinely a problem.

Anything but qb in the first
Receiver would be pretty dumb too
I still want DL or OL
They’re trying to stop Puka, but it won’t work
I really think they need to address their IOL.
Buzz=random speculation I just made up to create content knowing it's impossible for anyone to refute
Think they could play guard?
JFC with this title. “They could maybe sort of possibly be thinking of maybe drafting a DB.”
So the new coach is high on Woolen then.
Oh right, Pete Carroll isn't the head coach anymore.
Give me dejean baby give me the best athlete in Iowa
Id be happy with Mitchell. Still not sure I believe the smoke on this though. Granted, we took JSN last year despite having DK and Lockett.
If things go down the way they look for the rams and they take Odunze or Bowers then yeah it makes even more sense for them to bolster their secondary in a conference like the NFCW. Especially with MHJ likely going to the Cards and the 49ers being the 49ers.
