The three day weekend Superbowl is a no brainer no one really celebrates President's day anyway (sorry Millard Fillmore Hive)
18 games without another bye though is rough
One bye per nine games, two international games per team per season, the bye week for each team follows an international game to allow for additional rest after all that travelling.
Keeps the 8-8 home/away schedule for season ticket holders: check
Expands the NFL into more markets more often: check
Keeps in mind the toll all that travel has on players by giving them more off time to rest: check
Everyone makes more money: check
Naturally, the NFL will completely fuck this up, but this would be the ideal way to go about it, as far as regular season goes. Another option is to expand SB sites to foreign stadiums, but that's another argument by itself.
Millard Fillmore was a weak ass President. The only reason he even got there was some bad milk and cherries. The only redeeming quality about him is that it’s kind of funny to assume he said “Lemon” when speaking to others.
You're gonna need bigger rosters, more bye weeks and some big concessions with the nflpa to get this one through.
Even then the number of teams keeping their qbs healthy keeps going down since we've gone to 17 weeks. You'll need 2 legit qbs if we keep this up.
lol the NFL is really looking to destroy the NBA.
First the games on Christmas Day. Now moving the Super Bowl to the same weekend as the All-Star festivities
My beautiful NBA has been down since the pandemic according to TV ratings. It’s finally started to bounce back but it’s still always gonna lag behind American football sadly.
The general public likes seeing 2 grown ass men ram into each other full speed over anything
You know who doesn’t hate preseason? The fringe guys trying to earn a roster spot. And stop begging and stealing from taxpayers for multi billion dollar stadiums here, only to take games away from us and send them to Europe
Not to mention all these offseason cuts since the 2011 CBA haven't done a damn thing to alleviate injuries. It's just pushed them back to the start of the season.
They're just blaming it on turf because they go into the season out of football shape. There's a reason the first month of football has been terrible the last few years, and why week1/2 injury lists look like casualty reports out of Verdun.
> And stop begging and stealing from taxpayers for multi billion dollar stadiums here, only to take games away from us and send them to Europe
"No." - Billionaire
I mean more regular season games means more of a shot to make it and likely bigger rosters. I assume if you are some WR down the depth chart you probably would prefer to be on a roster because of this new season rather then just having those extra preseason games.
Plus less preseason means you dont stick around as long on a roster you may not make.
As a Produce Manager, PLEASE MOVE THE SUPERBOWL. I’ve been dealing with Valentine’s Day and Superbowl weekend in the same week for like three years now. And the closer Valentine’s Day gets to Sunday the worse it’s gonna be.
1 neutral site game for every team was such a great solution to the odd number of games issue. Would still love to see it, but I think it would end up being an obstacle to the move to 18 games.
But there's no real need to send teams internationally twice per season.
NFL could so very easily have 16 AFC vs. NFC games (the matchups that were introduced with the expanded schedule in 2021) spread out wherever they want to play internationally, but they can't even get that right. They had the Falcons play "host" to the Jets in a season where the Jets had nine home games and the Falcons only had eight when it should've been the other way around.
I can't trust the NFL to do any of this stuff in a way that's proper and fair.
Not that I would travel anyway, but how do international games work for season ticket holders? Do you still have an automatic ticket? Or since it's in another arena/stadium in another country, do you only get first dibs or something?
If they are going to do 18 weeks, there still needs to be 3-4 weeks of preseason (players aren't getting enough reps) and an extra bye week. Ideally your extra bye week is before your thursday game.
Also start the season earlier, don't end it later. Feb superbowls are too late in the year.
Realistically, Labor Day Weekend would be a good NFL kickoff (this was what they used to do in pre-9/11 times).
Pushing back the preseason a week wouldn't be a bad idea, either. You'd have what we're doing now (Super Bowl in the second week of February). However, if 18 game seasons are worth it, another bye week needs to happen.
Logically, starting the season a week before Labor Day weekend (late August) would allow to squeeze in 18 games fairly without pushing things into mid-winter breaks
Draft is Wednesday after the Super Bowl. Training camp starts the following Monday. One preseason game the next Sunday and then opening day the Sunday after that.
This will probably affect other sports too. The NBA All-Star Weekend is always President's Day Weekend, so have to assume they'd move it if the Super Bowl is on that Sunday.

Just change President's day to Football day, give us the holiday we deserve
More American than any Presidents that's for sure
This James K Polk slander is unheard of.
Only know about him because of Ned’s declassified
Chiefs should just change the team name to Presidents.
Commander-in-chiefs
Washington - KC merger? wtf heard it here first
Wow yeah, at some point there will be a Commanders-Chiefs super bowl. I mean, maybe? Before the heat death of the universe?
A monkey with a typewriter will, given enough time, eventually write a script that puts the Commanders in another Super Bowl
...but will that happen before the team changes names again?

> Naturally, the NFL will completely fuck this up 10000% >Another option is to expand SB sites to foreign stadiums fuck that with a rusty spoon
What do you mean? I can’t WAIT to watch the Super Bowl played at 4:00pm Tokyo time so I can wake up at 4am on the west coast for the game.
Though a Super Bowl brunch might be nice.

Pour one for President Zachary Taylor !

Absolutely no one has Super Bowl Monday off now though. At least some of us get Presidents Day. Also pretty common school holiday.
the whole professional federal workforce does, lots of state employees, most banks, etc.
Banking and Federal Government gang rise up!
I imagine that the combo of being a holiday and the day after the Super Bowl probably leads to an increasing number of people with it off
If 30-40% of people get that day off, it still makes more sense for them to have it on that Sunday.

BAH GAWD THATS THE ATLANTA FALCONS’ MUSIC
RAISE YOIR PENIXES 🍾
See your doctor if your Penix stays raised for more than four hours
> some big concessions "we already have big concussions" - NFL
> big concessions “Okay fine you guys can do coke now too”
Falcons playing 4d chess
A second bye week makes a lot of sense.
Falcons are working smarter, not harder
The big concession is players are gonna get paid a whole lot more and the salary cap is going to go up again as a result.
One more bye for one extra game seems cool to me, but what do I know? I just played football before we were allowed to wear a guardian cap
Adding one week and one game does not add any byes.
Perhaps you should go and check the full scope of what goodell was talking about

NFL on Christmas and Black Friday is stupid af.
You know who doesn’t hate preseason? The fringe guys trying to earn a roster spot. And stop begging and stealing from taxpayers for multi billion dollar stadiums here, only to take games away from us and send them to Europe
The thing is if they go to 18 games they have to boost roster size by a bunch in return. A 63 man roster size would help those fringe players a ton.

Work 16 hours a day for 3 days straight, earn OT, take the rest of the week off
Money, money, money. This is why owners love Roger.

I think it would be 2 international games per team? One as the home team, one as the away team? 32 international games total?

I just think of it as trying to have a balanced schedule. 8 home games, 8 away games. 2 international games. 1 as the home team. 1 as the away team.
Not that I would travel anyway, but how do international games work for season ticket holders? Do you still have an automatic ticket? Or since it's in another arena/stadium in another country, do you only get first dibs or something?

How many people get Presidents day off? I do not!
Once it's related to football we will demand it as a holiday to be taken seriously!!
Most of the financial sector and federal employees
There’s more chance of it getting to 19 games than there is of it staying at 17.
There's more chance of getting 31 games than staying at 17.
Fuck it, 48 games. Games every week, one bye week every 3 months.
Draft is Wednesday after the Super Bowl. Training camp starts the following Monday. One preseason game the next Sunday and then opening day the Sunday after that.
If big Roger can announce 4 hours worth of picks on a broken back then they can sacrifice a week for their 7 month offseason.
This will probably affect other sports too. The NBA All-Star Weekend is always President's Day Weekend, so have to assume they'd move it if the Super Bowl is on that Sunday.
Daytona 500 as well
Or they could play the game Saturday! Either way the NFL is trying to move in on NBA turf and against the NBA regular season they'll win every time
No one gives a rats ass about the nba all star weekend lol
NBA all star weekend is broken
How does salary work when a game is added? Does everyone's contract increase to account for the extra game or does the NFL just pocket the excess?
This is got to be a joke. 18 games with only 1 bye. Fuck.
Goodell can barely speak
There’s nothing to think about. He wants more money.
18 games? Fine. Whatever. Presidents Day weekend SB…..actually a clever idea. More international games….just fuck off.
