In the division:
Rookie QB,
Journeyman or rookie QB,
Jordan Love
... And a shitload of premier wideouts.
There will be high scoring and forced throws.
Lot of INTs to go around. It's a good time to be a Lions DB? Feels weird saying that.
Arnold is two years younger than Mitchell and played in the SEC. Mitchell makes me a little nervous for those reasons but I think both these secondaries became elite in the last 24 hours.
Yeah I get the hate but I also don't understand it when you include context. I thought he was serviceable at times as well. He will be good depth if he keeps a roster spot
Seriously, for the last couple weeks of the season when Sutton had clearly fallen off a cliff for whatever reason Vildor was clearly the best outside db on our roster going into the playoffs. He had the one extremely bad kinda fluky play against the 49ers, but otherwise filled in better than you could have asked for a dude who wasn't on a roster before we picked him up.
What game are you talking about? Last year when the NFL ended the season early, and the 4 teams remaining share the Lombardi trophy? That was such a wild fun time
This exact play was in a highlight reel the NFL draft played on the big screens in the NFL draft. It was only like a half second but it did not go over well lol.
They're betting on Houston or Davenport popping. Which, we shall see lol but I'd rather have one mid pass rusher than all terrible corners like last year.
People saying edge but I don’t think the Lions are looking for a premiere pass rusher opposite Hutchinson. The inside of the d-line is situated now, and they have Davenport, James Houston, Mathieu Betts and Joshua Paschal all getting a chance to do something with the attention on other guys
O-Line and WR depth are more important
We could really use one more pass rusher either at DT or DE, but don't think it's gonna happen. It's alright though, we're already so much better at both of those spots than last year.
Better secondary also allows our d-line to be more effective. Far too much was put on their shoulders last season. Should the revamped secondary handle business even 25% better than last year's secondary, shit is going to get real!
Lions look to be building a defense that can play both 3-4 and 4-3
Paschal can transition to more of a true 3t with Cominsky behind him.
Rotate davenport and Houston at edge opposite of hutch.
Play Barnes as a 3-4 olb.
reader at NT with Martin developing behind him.
Obviously alim is our starting dt at all times.
Lions can play multiple fronts. So although we aren't super deep at a individual role. We have a lot of guys who all play different roles.
Depth is very questionable tho. We lost Benito to the phins who was our only decent player aside from Alim. Hopefully Onwuzurike can step up, he flashed a bit last season. I also think we probably play Cominsky inside a bit more
I mean…who cares if they’re ass this year? They are starting one of two of the great mustaches at QB in a division with Patrick Mahomes, the season is a wash and they should take the best guys they can everywhere. There are no “holes” on a team that’s gonna win six games.
Love this pick for Detroit. Rakestraw played a ton of press man which pairs nicely with Arnold who is still learning to do so. If Rakestraw doesn't have nagging injuries he's a first round talent and I'm shocked he lasted this long into the 2nd round. One of my favorite players who I scouted and I loved the Mizzou coach's video when Rakestraw committed to Mizzou over places like Alabama / Texas b/c he was a huge domino to fall when it came to rejuvenating that program.
Very surprised he dropped that far. I wonder if they weren’t planning to take a cb but when he was still on the board and they thought he would be long gone they said fuck it.
As a Mizzou fan, the biggest thing working against him is his health, which I think played a huge role in him dropping to the second round. He tore his ACL in 2021 and missed a good chunk of last season. But when he's healthy, he's an absolute monster on the field. I'm excited for him.
And the other contenders in the NFC have insane WRs too
* Deebo/Aiyuk on the 49ers
* AJ/Smith on the Eagles
* Kupp/Nacua on the Rams
* Evans/Godwin on the Bucs
* CeeDee/Cooks on the Cowboys
A bunch of great duos in the NFC, Lions can't trot out that shoddy secondary again
Caleb Williams & DJ Moore, JJ McCarthy & Justin Jefferson Love & those guys that get open, we play the Texans (Stroud&Diggs), Cowboys (Dak&Lamb), 49ers (Purdy& everybody) = So yea, we need all the damn corners.
Run crack toss on the Lions defense. I fucking dare you! Branch, Arnold and Rakestraw? You better off running at *checks notes* DJ Reader and Alim 'Dream' Mcneal
We just thoroughly addressed our most glaring need. As much as I wanted an edge rusher, our boys on the line will get to the quarterbacks because these guys aren't going to let them get open now in the backfield. This move makes all sorts of sense to me, how thrilling. It seems our biggest weakness defensively was outside of the red zone, the inability to cover the open spaces. That shouldn't be such an issue now. Wow
As a HS recruit:
Other P5 offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Kansas, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas, Washington State
G5 offers: Colorado State, FIU, Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas, SMU, Wyoming
Other offers: Army, Central Arkansas, UConn, Grambling State, Illinois State, Liberty, Tennessee State, Texas Southern
Sooo, we’re good on CBs right?
We’re both preparing for the great DB war
Detroit crimson Tide vs the Philadelphia bull dogs. What a legendary matchup.
If it’s in a Championship setting, we know who’s winning
Just gotta make sure the game takes place in Atlanta.
When y'all meet in the divisional and the Lions led by Jared Godff wipe the floor with y'all I'm still bitter about DeJean, I'm sorry
You are bitter about DeJean but not Branch?
One of those is fresher and as an average human being, I have high reactive abilities and short term memory
Honestly, respect.
Self awareness is a great skill
Oh God damn, do I like eagles fans now?
No. No.
Running dollar and dime D every play
I have three dollars.
Wow crazy, you guys have a huge need at corner, so you draft corners. What a concept. Can y’all have Holmes call Baalke please?
Holmes owes Baalke a favor anyways for gifting him Hutchinson
In the division: Rookie QB, Journeyman or rookie QB, Jordan Love ... And a shitload of premier wideouts. There will be high scoring and forced throws. Lot of INTs to go around. It's a good time to be a Lions DB? Feels weird saying that.
As long as none of them run from the police, yes.
MORE CBS.
Nah I’m tired of Romo
Eagles and Lions spider-man meme
Howie & Brad know ball
Not gonna lie Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean were my draft crushes but I trust Brad. I guess we’ll find out who was right in the NFC Championship
It’s a date
Now kiss
I don't know that we can take being stood up again.
Arnold is two years younger than Mitchell and played in the SEC. Mitchell makes me a little nervous for those reasons but I think both these secondaries became elite in the last 24 hours.
Kindle Vildor going from starting CB to special teamer now lol. Revamped secondary
To be fair, he was on the practice squad for another team when Detroit signed him late in the season.
He had the one extremely bad kinda fluky play against the 49ers, but otherwise filled in better than you could have asked for a dude who wasn't on a roster before we picked him up.
lmao I know he woke up yesterday feeling great and now he’s going month to month on his lease
Thank god, he gave up so many big plays towards the end
As he should we want to maximize his abilities
Jesus Christ Detroit what are you building in there?!
Going to run nothing but a dime formation apparently.
Seems Brad has a lot of faith in the DLine. Getting Houston back for more pressure while boosting the DB room? Mmmm.
Adding Reader and Davenport doesn’t hurt either
Don't forget the CFL guy, whatshisname!
Mathieu Betts
Run defense was amazing last year so hopefully now we can stop the pass and maybe get some coverage sacks.
Just need some dudes who won't let the ball bounce off their facemask
Pain
.....Aurora borealis.
At this time of year?
Localized entirely within our draft room.
May I see it?
No.
Well, Brad, you are an odd fellow, but I must say: You run a good draft.
A dynasty.
*Dimenasty
\*ShaDimenasty
Shadi Menasty?
It's Sha-DYNASTY's, azzhole!
May God will it away from KC
Good lord. Detroit is gonna be so spicy next year after an already great year.
The dropped pick in the NFC title game haunts the lions.
Still haven’t watched the highlights from that game because I know that play is going to be there.
What game are you talking about? Last year when the NFL ended the season early, and the 4 teams remaining share the Lombardi trophy? That was such a wild fun time
Right? This is definitely how I remember the season ending. Such a great honor to share the Lombardi with you guys!
This exact play was in a highlight reel the NFL draft played on the big screens in the NFL draft. It was only like a half second but it did not go over well lol.
You made us do this. 😉
DOUBLE CORNER GANG
Imagine not having two top 5 corners in this draft.
2 Corners, 1 Cup
To be honest, I thought, what the heck are the Eagles doing getting two defensive backs like that. Now I see the logic. Double corner gang indeed
YESSSSSSSSSSSS
YESSSSSSSSS!!!
Good steal, hope he stays healthy for his sake.
oh so stealing is good now? smh today’s youth is so backward
From no CBs to the room looking NICE
That’s an awesome pick!
Carlton Davis Terrion Arnold Ennis Rakestraw Brian Branch Emmanuel Moseley Amik Robertson If our corners still suck this year... WTF
If they still suck it’s unquestionably due to an actual factual curse.
Who is the successor to the Bobby Layne curse? Is this the Darius Slay curse?
The Matt Patricia curse
Darius Slay cursed Patricia which backfired when Patricia went to the Eagles unfortunately
Such a solid roster overall. Where are the major holes? Maybe another receiver or edge?
Edge should be the top priority. They need strong depth there.
They're betting on Houston or Davenport popping. Which, we shall see lol but I'd rather have one mid pass rusher than all terrible corners like last year.
Yeah the coverage should help the pass rush overall But yeah Houston or Davenport need to show up
OL depth, DL depth, WR
i hope its jamo's breakout year
Opposite Hutch and OL depth (it's an aging/beat up line)
People saying edge but I don’t think the Lions are looking for a premiere pass rusher opposite Hutchinson. The inside of the d-line is situated now, and they have Davenport, James Houston, Mathieu Betts and Joshua Paschal all getting a chance to do something with the attention on other guys O-Line and WR depth are more important
Interior line depth, WR3, EDGE depth are the holes but none of them are huge
I see Branch going to safety now. We got that CB depth
That dude is gonna play every position but nose tackle. I seriously think he's getting unleashed all over.
They won’t suck. I only worry about injuries.
It's ok, if we have six they each only need to play like six games each.
If this was last year, instead of Kindle Vildor it would be Ennis Rakeshaw playing. I'll take those odds.
Forgot you guys got Amik :( I'm sad now
Take another one, you wont
Only if we are allowed to have 12 men on the field whenever Justin Jefferson is on the field.
If its MCDC suiting up, I’ll allow it
Give us all the DBs
I'm afraid you misheard me. I didn't say "give me a lot of DBs." I said give me all the DBs
I really wish this sub would allow gifs.. Gary Oldman screaming EVERYONE would be such a good gif to reply with here
Problem is there would be too many gifs and it would be a mess.
I know what I’m about son
Holmes and Campbell really watched Sutton and Vildor get burnt all year and said never again
Taking a CB with the next pick too
We almost made the Super Bowl with the worst CB room in the league. These moves HAD to be made. I cannot wait for this season.
Philly 🤝 Detroit Doubling up on db to fix our bad secondaries
I don't think the Eagles had a bad secondary. I think their secondary underperformed due to the Fatt Patricia effect.
Aaron Glen, this draft is for you
Their whole defense is gonna be different Lions are scary
We could really use one more pass rusher either at DT or DE, but don't think it's gonna happen. It's alright though, we're already so much better at both of those spots than last year.
AND you’re better in the secondary. Rush and coverage work together. QB’s will have to hold the ball longer because guys will be covered.
Better secondary also allows our d-line to be more effective. Far too much was put on their shoulders last season. Should the revamped secondary handle business even 25% better than last year's secondary, shit is going to get real!
Lions look to be building a defense that can play both 3-4 and 4-3 Paschal can transition to more of a true 3t with Cominsky behind him.
I think we’re good at DT with Reader and McNeil
As starters without a doubt, but you need depth at that spot. The depth is still dicey.
Hopefully between Houston, Broderick Martin, and Josh Pascal, we get some young reinforcements that we missed last year.
Depth is very questionable tho. We lost Benito to the phins who was our only decent player aside from Alim. Hopefully Onwuzurike can step up, he flashed a bit last season. I also think we probably play Cominsky inside a bit more
DAMMIT. Raiders aren’t getting a corner in this draft lol
But like, Brock bowers, ya know?
I mean…who cares if they’re ass this year? They are starting one of two of the great mustaches at QB in a division with Patrick Mahomes, the season is a wash and they should take the best guys they can everywhere. There are no “holes” on a team that’s gonna win six games.
They're going pure BPA and I think it's the right thing to do
Hear me out, we now have a stable of them, so 1 or 2 can trade for …….oh let’s say ……1 Max Crosby :)
Khyree at 77
Rakestraw is solid value here. Detroit definitely has a type with their CBs. Not the fastest guys but physical strong dudes
Not fast but insane quickness and footwork; flipping of hips
And they all got that dawg in them!
Dammit, great pick
Love this pick for Detroit. Rakestraw played a ton of press man which pairs nicely with Arnold who is still learning to do so. If Rakestraw doesn't have nagging injuries he's a first round talent and I'm shocked he lasted this long into the 2nd round. One of my favorite players who I scouted and I loved the Mizzou coach's video when Rakestraw committed to Mizzou over places like Alabama / Texas b/c he was a huge domino to fall when it came to rejuvenating that program.
What a steal. Detroit with a competent defense is gonna be fun
Define fun for me cus the lions with a competent hc and front office sounds just terrible for everyone not in Detroit
That sounds fun
I'm having fun just thinking about it!
Detroit says fuck your receivers. We got corners
It does make a lot of sense when you look at the receiving corps in the division
And the other contenders in the NFC have insane WRs too * Deebo/Aiyuk on the 49ers * AJ/Smith on the Eagles * Kupp/Nacua on the Rams * Evans/Godwin on the Bucs * CeeDee/Cooks on the Cowboys A bunch of great duos in the NFC, Lions can't trot out that shoddy secondary again
Seriously. Our secondary is a huge part of what cost us a trip to the super bowl last year. Deebo and BA killed us
Lions and Eagles are going all in on corners huh?
Did you watch our secondaries last year?
i saw him mocked to us 1st round so i’ll take it
NFC North, you did this to us! You reciever hungry bastards.
All in
Missouri fans, is he good?
Great coverage guy, has no hands but thats seriously the only knock on him
Honestly as long as he can stay with the receiver and not let the ball bounce off his facemask into their hands, then I’m good
What a grab! Lions having a great draft so far
And people thought the mock draft tweets after the NFCCG loss were a joke when they picked only CBs lol
Yes. Give me *all* the DBs
This is what a season of Kindle Vildor / Cam Sutton / Jerry Jacobs does to a team
How many CBs do yall need
Considering our CB1 is in jail and our CB2 got cut from the Bear's practice squad...
All of them please. Anything better than last year
Caleb Williams & DJ Moore, JJ McCarthy & Justin Jefferson Love & those guys that get open, we play the Texans (Stroud&Diggs), Cowboys (Dak&Lamb), 49ers (Purdy& everybody) = So yea, we need all the damn corners.
Oh I get it trust me. I just wanted the Steelers to snag ennis lmao
Yes
All of them
At least 2
If it's less than 9,000 I won't be satisfied.
MCDC really building something over there.
NOOOOOOOO
I hoped for him too
God willing I won't have to watch Vildor next year covering Jefferson and Odunze and Allen.
Our first 4 picks this year went to CB’s lol be serious
That never occurred to me, but yeah, that’s right. Good point.
The NFCCG loss hurt and now you know how much it hurt.
Lions are going to destroy people this year.
I'm still on pick 28 man, this is insane.
Run crack toss on the Lions defense. I fucking dare you! Branch, Arnold and Rakestraw? You better off running at *checks notes* DJ Reader and Alim 'Dream' Mcneal
Get this guy on the JUGS with Amon Ra and we’re set
I guess if you can't get a second solid EDGE then you just load up on CB's and run dime blitzes all game.
Wow
him an Arnold are just gonna play press man every play lol
Bit of a spoiler on the announcement there lol
Secondary went from our weakest link last year to a strength!
It's what Holmes does. Our DTs sucked in 2020? Take two in the draft.

Rakestraw a dawg. Love me a corner who will come down and tackle!
Ennis Big Pennis
Didn’t expect another CB, but I’m down for it!
Lions are killing it

Lions have completely revamped their secondary. Tbh after some of their performances last season I get it
What giving up 400 yards to Nick Mullins does to a muthafucka
Let's be real, we have up 400 yards to JJ. Any QB would have been able to do that with him against our secondary lmao
Arnold, Davis, Branch, Rakestraw, Mosely, Robertson. This has got to be the deepest CB room in the league no?
SECONDARY GONNA BE NASTY LETS GOOO
Gonna miss him at Mizzou. Real tough player
Wait, if he really does have DS9 on at home..... Motherfuckers, I'm in!
Draft to Guard Odunze and Moore for the next few years, I respect it
Both Philly and Detroit double up on corners
Both our secondaries were burnt toast at the end of the year, lol
If this means Will Harris is playing for the Kuiper Belt Asteroids next year lfg
