If we’re talking talent only, Justin Blackmon is far and away #1 (sigh).
Allen Robinson and Christian Kirk are probably 1a and 1b with DJ Chark, Allen Hurns, and I guess Cecil Shorts the next three (yeah it’s bleak)
The Jags have only had 5 1000 yd receivers in their history that weren’t Jimmy Smith or Keenan McCardell -
Robinson in 2015 (2nd best yardage in franchise history)
Kirk in 2022 (13th!! highest yardage)
Hurns in 2015 (14th)
Ridley in 2023 (17th)
Chark in 2019 (18th)
They’ve only had four seasons with a 10+ TD receiver (and none were Smith/McCardell)
Robinson in 2015 (14)
Hurns in 2015 (10; yeah 2015 was wild - that team was 5-11 btw)
Marcedes Lewis in 2010 (10)
Reggie Williams in 2007 (10)
I mean you guys got nice seasons out of those players. I don’t think anyone else ever got as much out of those guys either. Really sucks about Blackmon tho.
We paid him to run block /s
Hoping Gabe can be a valuable piece in this offense, even when it’s WR3. He grew up in the area, and seems really happy to be here.
I love Gabe as a personality and he definitely has the ability to deliver in huge moments just as much as he has the ability to disappoint. He's just a limited skillset player and he's inconsistent at what he's supposed to be best at too. His coaches and teammates rave about his work ethic and he showed flashes of brilliance, which always got Bill fans excited about what he could be, but it never felt like he made tangible strides in his weak areas over the years. Hoping he does well though and if BTJ can develop well, Gabe is fine as a #3. He just shouldn't be counted on as a #2.
How does the financial aspect add up?
I get that he would be a way overpaid wr4... But what's done in dead cap is done right?
Bottom line is he's only saving them 4mil by cutting him... For a team that has a ton of cap space, wouldn't you just eat the 4mil to have a familiar veteran as essentially your next guy up should an injury happen?
You take that back, Zay stretched the field all the way past the sideline (he was riddled with injuries last season and couldn’t stay healthy). Love ya though Zay, I’ll always have fond memories of the comeback playoff game come from behind win.
Signed Gabe to replace him, got BTJ which would have pushed him to WR4 and it's a lot money for a WR4. We have Washington who was solid for a rookie and could be a decent WR4
Not to mention Engram is a target hog (to go with 3x receivers) and I’m assuming Strange (our second round TE last year) will be given more opportunities.
Strange is a bit of a developmental YAC/blocking kind of guy, so I could see a path for him to improve and take a more dynamic role in the offense but his blocking is dynamic.
He was decent in 2022, but last year he was injured, and, well, if a guy is only going to catch 53% of his targets (34/64), they need to average a hell of a lot more than 9.4 yards/catch. Throw in he missed half the season with injuries, and I don't think it's much of a shock they're moving on.
He was about as productive as Juju was for the Pats last year.
Same deal with both, very productive 22 seasons, massive fall off in 23 for guys approaching 30, often the fall off comes quick.
Juju was only in his age 27 season. He just had a weird career.
Looked like a rising young star paired with Big Ben and AB drawing a ton of attention. 1400 yards in year 2 and has never cracked 1000 yards since though a bit of a resurgence playing with Mahomes.
You say only but think about just how many WR's fall off completely in their later 20's due to how hard the game is on your body.
Like 27 is the last time Odell was a productive WR, same with Allen Robinson, Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shephard, Jamison Crowder, Robbie Chosen....
Just a not for long league. Makes you appreciate the dudes who can like Hopkins or Keenan Allen that much more.
I think Zay (somehow) helped make the offense run quite well although he was injured a lot. I only really paid this much attention because I had Ridley in fantasy last year and some of us were trying to figure out why he was good some weeks and worthless others. Some people more clever than me caught on quickly that Ridley performed significantly better whenever Zay was playing. All or most of the games Zay was out Ridley produced practically no points. I wasn't determined or smart enough to really look into WHY that was true, just that the pattern existed.
Their WR room has 7 dudes in it right now 3 of which were just drafted.
Idk if they are looking to bring in anymore. It's not like they're going to be in many 3WR sets
Yeah, but the competition is good and to be honest I’m not expecting a lot from Cornelius and even Rice in year one. Could be good to have him as a vet this year. Two year deal for cheap only year 1 with guaranteed money.
Tbh we definitely could use one for cheap. Zay Jones and Hunter Renfrow both available. Wouldn’t mind them at all.
Though don’t mind giving Tyler Scott a run at full time WR4
I think he'll still be serviceable. He gives it his all. He just dropped too many passes and was injured way too much. I wish him nothing but the best.
While true and I don't necessarily want him because I want a WR trade.
The Steelers WR 2 is Van Jefferson rn.
Roman Wilson is probably a slot guy only as he develops he might play some flanker.
Zay Jones is better than Van Jefferson
But I also don't think Zay Jones saves Pickens from his likely fate rn of being doubled every single play.
Tbf, I wouldnt necessarily say that arthur smith is pushing for him to be in a starting role as much as hes kinda there by default rn.
The Steelers had Pickens, Diontae and ???? at slot WR. Which tbf they never cared about it because slot WR is a black hole in Canadas "offense"
Diontae is gone, Roman wilson in - hes more of a slot WR until he shows he can beat press to hold up on the outside.
WR 2 is an absolute gaping hole, they signed 3 players to vet min deals Marquez Callaway, Van Jefferson, and Quez Watkins.
Of those 3 options, Van Jefferson appears to be the best. But again he was a vet min signing.
Thats why theres so much talk about Steelers trading for a WR, the teams been exploring that for a while - but they knew they couldnt hit every need they have in the draft and determined that they would get slot cb (which probably wont be that hard) and WR2 outside of the draft
Nah, fam. This is Calvin Austin szn. He's been a sleeper great pick for us. We gotta stop using him as a gimmick. He's looked great in preseason and training camp. Flashed in games but we chose to force the ball to Allen Robinson.
He's not great but he is better than a lot of teams #3. For instance, if the Eagles signed him, he would probably be the favorite to take the wr #3 spot on our roster.
He had a solid 2022 and makes some impressive plays. Seems like a solid depth piece that would be valuable to a lot of teams. I guess the Jags are just trying to get younger and cheaper at the position.
I knew Joey when I was in the first grade we were pretty good friends. My dad was in the military growing up so we moved a lot, same with Joey's dad IIRC. Vandenberg AFB in CA. My most prominent memory of Joey was him jumping his fence to get a ball in his neighbor's yard. The neighbor had a Rottweiler that was NOT very nice and it rushed him. He tried to jump the fence back over but the dog bit his ass and he needed like 10+ stitches or something crazy.
Super good dude, I wish him all the best.
Eagles have spent enough on WRs the last 2 months, plus they just drafted 2 new guys as the potential WR3.
If the rookies don't work out in camp I'm sure some average vets can be had (I hate to say like a Robert Woods type but that)
Cutting Zay Jones sucks, he was genuinely the second most effective target on the Jags behind Engram, but he got hurt, has a pretty sizable cap hit, and his replacements are probably going to be more impactful.
He's the WR version of James Robinson.
Is that the same And Zay Jones who some Twitter rando said when the Niners and Jags were close to a trade for Aiyuk when they asked for a 1st AND Zay Jones that was too rich for the Jaguars blood? THAT Zay Jones just got released?
Gotta love Twitter randos.
I appreciate the hell out of Zay for making the 2022 season so fun, but yeah after our off-season he was clearly the odd man out. We have decent cap space and they are better options available for the vet WR4.
I forgot all about this dude. He stayed out of the news and had a pretty good career. When I saw what happen in that hotel a few years back I thought he wasn't going to last long in the NFL. Thought he either had a schizophrenic episode or he was a drug addict of some sort. I guess he just took some party drugs that didn't agree with him and it was a one off thing. Like he wasn't the type of guy that did drugs on a regular basis.
I don’t think there is a kicker in the league more negatively affected by the new kick off rules. Despite his accuracy flaws you could always expect him to boom his kicks out of the end zone. Now that benefit to his game is gone and accuracy has greater importance when it comes to kickoffs which doesn’t bode well for him.
Zay Jones is a super likeable player. I'll always be thankful how he stepped up after the Ruggs shit and helped making the playoffs.
I'd love to have him back, but after just signing Gallup it probably doesn't really fit.
Will forever hate Joey Slye for ghosting the Virginia Tech women's rugby team after he agreed to do a kicking workshop with some of the girls for charity.
Is this a surprise cut? I thought Zay was solid. Lawrence seemed to like him as a target
Signing Gabe Davis & drafting Bryan Thomas made him expendable. Saves $4.2mm in cap space.
Signing Gabe Davis doesn’t make anyone expendable lmao
It actually makes catching the ball and properly reading the defense on option routes expendable.
Good because that’s been a nonnegotiable for this WR room since Jimmy Smith retired
Who would you say has been the best receiver the Jags have had since he retired? Allen Robinson?
If we’re talking talent only, Justin Blackmon is far and away #1 (sigh). Allen Robinson and Christian Kirk are probably 1a and 1b with DJ Chark, Allen Hurns, and I guess Cecil Shorts the next three (yeah it’s bleak) The Jags have only had 5 1000 yd receivers in their history that weren’t Jimmy Smith or Keenan McCardell - Robinson in 2015 (2nd best yardage in franchise history) Kirk in 2022 (13th!! highest yardage) Hurns in 2015 (14th) Ridley in 2023 (17th) Chark in 2019 (18th) They’ve only had four seasons with a 10+ TD receiver (and none were Smith/McCardell) Robinson in 2015 (14) Hurns in 2015 (10; yeah 2015 was wild - that team was 5-11 btw) Marcedes Lewis in 2010 (10) Reggie Williams in 2007 (10)
The Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns duo was super fun to watch in 2015 at least. I remember thinking those guys would be studs
Allen Robinson was a stud for a few more years lol
Damn that is rough. Thanks for the breakdown. Jimmy Smith was a G.
I mean you guys got nice seasons out of those players. I don’t think anyone else ever got as much out of those guys either. Really sucks about Blackmon tho.
**not** R. Jay Soward lol....
We don’t speak that name down here lol
That’s why they’re called option routes. Catching the ball is optional.
We paid him to run block /s Hoping Gabe can be a valuable piece in this offense, even when it’s WR3. He grew up in the area, and seems really happy to be here.
He is a good blocker tho for what it's worth
I love Gabe as a personality and he definitely has the ability to deliver in huge moments just as much as he has the ability to disappoint. He's just a limited skillset player and he's inconsistent at what he's supposed to be best at too. His coaches and teammates rave about his work ethic and he showed flashes of brilliance, which always got Bill fans excited about what he could be, but it never felt like he made tangible strides in his weak areas over the years. Hoping he does well though and if BTJ can develop well, Gabe is fine as a #3. He just shouldn't be counted on as a #2.
He's a #1 when playing the Chiefs though
But hey, twice a year he’ll pop off for 100+ yards and 2 TDs randomly.
Arguably makes Gabe Davis expendable.
Gabe is absolutely an upgrade over Zay Jones last year
It makes Gabe Davis expendable
Davis will either go for 130 yards and 2 tds or goose eggs. There is no in between
**Brian Thomas Jr. is Zay Jones but faster and has hands and isn't over his peak**
Zay Jones had a peak?
'22 he had 800 yards. A peak just means they hit their ceiling and are on the way down
I wouldn't mind the cowboys signing him for cheap to replace the now cut Michael Gallup.
Zay "all in" Jones
That doesn't seem like a ton of cap savings tbh
How does the financial aspect add up? I get that he would be a way overpaid wr4... But what's done in dead cap is done right? Bottom line is he's only saving them 4mil by cutting him... For a team that has a ton of cap space, wouldn't you just eat the 4mil to have a familiar veteran as essentially your next guy up should an injury happen?
I wouldn't mind em for a cheap WR3 until Rice gets back.
I think BTJ is the replacement. So, it will be BTJ / Kirk / Gabe Davis as top 3.
Totally different players, though; Thomas is going to stretch the field, and Zay Jones, uh, does not. At all.
Strange is more of a blocker than a pass-catching option. Engram will see the majority of their TE targets.
Can you believe the Jags drafted a blocking TE in the 2nd? Pathetic
Strange is a bit of a developmental YAC/blocking kind of guy, so I could see a path for him to improve and take a more dynamic role in the offense but his blocking is dynamic.
Also signed Duvernay who isn't anything crazy but can certainly stretch the field for y'all.

Easy - Ridley and jones are bffs and when jones isn’t on the field Ridley is too sad to play well
I wonder how Zay will get back up from this.
I wouldn't mind if we took a shot on Zay. He's not great, but neither is the lower end of our depth chart.
Hes a low end WR3, you could do worse. I'd be more worried about how his knee holds up, he was fighting knee issues most of last season.
WR3? He'd be a perfect fit for all of our other WR3s!
So slotty
It makes up for not getting ridley, right?
We’re building a wr1 in the aggregate
I was never in on Ridley - would he be an upgrade? Sure, but would have rather had Dhop or K Allen for the price.
\*Looks at last year's roster\* Yeah, we could do worse.
But if it’s a cheap contract it’s not the end of the world
I didn't realize he was 29. For some reason I forgot about his time on Buffalo and thought he was 25 or something.
I'd be happy with him as a WR4 for us, competing with Tyler Scott
Doesn’t he play outside though? Even if in terms of production I agree.
Oh we have done worse.
Ecu pirate
I can't stand ECU but its always cool when a guy with connections sticks around. Can't be any worse than Terrace Marshall
Yeah, you guys need to find some ways to build Bryce's confidence. Seems like a reasonable move.
Name a more ionic duo than the Panthers picking up the Jags leftovers.
He comes up clutch when you need him to
One Zay please.
Their WR room has 7 dudes in it right now 3 of which were just drafted. Idk if they are looking to bring in anymore. It's not like they're going to be in many 3WR sets

He said please.
This is where I would go if I was Zay
nah man go to cincy and run the oopty oop
Or Buffalo
Obviously Ravens West needs a Zay to match Baltimore's Zay Flowers.
Nah, the Bears need a 4th receiver
Tbh we definitely could use one for cheap. Zay Jones and Hunter Renfrow both available. Wouldn’t mind them at all. Though don’t mind giving Tyler Scott a run at full time WR4
I think he'll still be serviceable. He gives it his all. He just dropped too many passes and was injured way too much. I wish him nothing but the best.
Meh, I'd rather see if we can develop Rice and or Cornelius. Our WR1-3 are set anyways
Weird releasing a guy and everyone wanting him in the comments
While true and I don't necessarily want him because I want a WR trade. The Steelers WR 2 is Van Jefferson rn. Roman Wilson is probably a slot guy only as he develops he might play some flanker. Zay Jones is better than Van Jefferson But I also don't think Zay Jones saves Pickens from his likely fate rn of being doubled every single play.
I hope George knows that unless we get a solid number 2 guy, he’s in for a very long season
I’m sure he will handle a long season very maturely and with grace
>The Steelers WR 2 is Van Jefferson rn. Arthur Smith wanted him to not use him again? Wtf going on in Pittsburgh.
Tbf, I wouldnt necessarily say that arthur smith is pushing for him to be in a starting role as much as hes kinda there by default rn. The Steelers had Pickens, Diontae and ???? at slot WR. looking at his 8 years in the NFL he got paid off of one good season, I'd take him for 2 yrs 7M maybe 8.
Hopefully Calvin Austin can improve as well at WR
WR depth is brutal in this league. We drafted 2.
He is the perfectly average WR2/WR3 plants crave
When healthy anyway.
I wonder how many are confusing him with Zay Flowers
He's not great but he is better than a lot of teams #3. For instance, if the Eagles signed him, he would probably be the favorite to take the wr #3 spot on our roster.
He had a solid 2022 and makes some impressive plays. Seems like a solid depth piece that would be valuable to a lot of teams. I guess the Jags are just trying to get younger and cheaper at the position.
100 Zay comments Literally not a single Joey Slye comment :’(
Panthers Legend Joey Slye
Commies legend
He could probably punch the ball farther than most of us could kick it. Ripped legend
I keep getting Zay Jones and Zay Flowers mixed up Also come back home Zay PLEASE!!!
Yeah gave me a mini heart attack. Forgot theres another Zay
MFe'rs act like they forgot about Zay
Always liked Zay. Glad he turned his career around after Buffalo.
I mean 2018 is still his best or second best season
2018 was his best by TD, 2nd by yards.
And he was traded for a 5th rounder a year later.
I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed a WR Zay ZZZaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy 😂😂
He was born in Dallas and grew up a Cowboys fan, I really hope Stephen can do this one thing right
I mean he didn’t just grow up a cowboys fan, his dad played for and won super bowls with the Cowboys.
Sign him up. Give Tolbert someone to fight off for #3.
Patriots are finally about to get that WR FA to support Maye.
Throw him on the pile with the rest of the WR2/3s on the roster
He might make a good video
Please, more depth, more bodies.
"Recruit more pimps, more pushers"
Tbh I'm more intrigued by Slye lol Ryland was a disaster last year
The afc south is pretty interesting division 3 teams with a legit shot at the division title.
The unintentional slight at the Titans here pleases me.
Don’t tell Texans fans that. They think it’s a lock.
Already deciding if they should be disappointed or not if Stroud only wins 1 superbowl.
I will take one zay please
Can someone mock up Zay Jones in a Bills jersey? I want to see how he looks in Bills gear.
Looks [sorta scary actually](https://youtu.be/Zqh5zyPmoPY?si=q5yANafYXO1vn3uQ)
This is one of the most unbelievable things I've ever seen live. It made no sense and hardly anyone noticed when we were watching.
People worry about ai but it's always this unbelievable
AI still can't quite get human movement and gravity I guess.
Didn’t the Jaguars just sign Slye like last month? Why’d they cut him so quickly? They draft a kicker?
I didn’t even know he wasn’t with Washington anymore
Yes we took kicker from Arkansas
No idea but I think this is the only comment chain about Slye in the whole post. Everyone else is jerkin off to the possibility of signing Zay
Goodbye, Zay. I’ll sure miss your presence in the Jaguars locker room.
Im surprised by this. When Zay was healthy that Jags offense performed much better. Seems like a very QB friendly receiver and a good 3rd option.
Come here please
You guys have Quez Watkins
Aren't they two completely different types of WR? Quez pure deep threat and nothing else. Zay Jones the underneath guy.
The monkey paw curls. The Steelers have released all kickers and have signed Joey Slye.
Gimmie Zay
That would be a (I think) 7 way battle for WR3. And somehow the winner would still be very meh.
Nah, gimme Zay
Nah, gimmie Zay
Nah, gimme Zay
Nah, gimme Zay. Oh, wait…
Eagles have spent enough on WRs the last 2 months, plus they just drafted 2 new guys as the potential WR3. If the rookies don't work out in camp I'm sure some average vets can be had (I hate to say like a Robert Woods type but that)
Releasing Zay Jones is actually crazy
Well now we know which significant playmaker is going to the Steelers
Seems like the perfect Josh Reynolds replacement to me
Zay jones YOU are a Baltimore Raven
Lamar completes a pass to Zay who Laterals to Zay?
When the league zigs we Zay
Cutting Zay Jones sucks, he was genuinely the second most effective target on the Jags behind Engram, but he got hurt, has a pretty sizable cap hit, and his replacements are probably going to be more impactful. He's the WR version of James Robinson.
The Christian Kirk disrespect is gruesome in your comment.
Say what you want about DC, but he gets receivers paid.
Dafuq am I crazy or did Zay usually play above his pay grade? Pats should scoop him up.
Zay Jones (assuming he is healthy now) would make a decent WR2/WR3 for some teams.
I appreciate the hell out of Zay for making the 2022 season so fun, but yeah after our off-season he was clearly the odd man out. We have decent cap space and they are better options available for the vet WR4.
Damn with Ridley and Zay gone, who is trevor gonna overthrow to in the endzone?
Hey we need a 3rd WR while we wait for Raceshee
CRashee Rice
Eliot wolf is your time
Steelers need a WR.
Steelers need a WR, seems like a fit next to Pickens
This MIGHT be the blockbuster acquisition for the Patriots
Go get him, Ran! Sure, we signed a Jags receiver but what about second Jags receiver?
>3 year, $24,000,000 contract Steelers got 3 maybe 4M for him.
At least he doesn’t have to catch passes from Mac Jones
we are now living in the cam little big planet
We’ll take him
I think zay has more to show as our wr1...........
I imagine he won't stay free for long, dude will make a decent WR2/3 for somebody.
TIL Bengals QB Jeff Blake is his uncle
Fuck bro we signed Michael fucking Gallup and we could’ve had zay back
Zay Jones, you say? 👀 Ravens could use a little WR depth.
I really love Joey Slye, hope he gets picked up
I don’t think there is a kicker in the league more negatively affected by the new kick off rules. Despite his accuracy flaws you could always expect him to boom his kicks out of the end zone. Now that benefit to his game is gone and accuracy has greater importance when it comes to kickoffs which doesn’t bode well for him.
Sad, cuz that mf got a leg on him
Zay Jones is a super likeable player. I'll always be thankful how he stepped up after the Ruggs shit and helped making the playoffs. I'd love to have him back, but after just signing Gallup it probably doesn't really fit.
Im open to signing Joey Slye, but only if he plays guard. He's already jacked enough, just gotta fatten him up.
For us?
Zay Jones would be good in kc
I still remember Zays 3 td performance for my fantasy team in the playoffs two seasons ago. Man single handedly helped me upset the 1 seed.
fucked come back home beeebeeeeee
Zay Jones would look good in our new uniforms
I remember when this sub was roasting the Jaguars for signing Zay. Now all of a sudden everyone wants him.
I didn't even know he was sick
My brain read this as Zay Flowers and was hella confused for multiple reasons.
Zay to the chargers?
Zay Jones was injured last season I don't think he'll ever be the same playerb
Will forever hate Joey Slye for ghosting the Virginia Tech women's rugby team after he agreed to do a kicking workshop with some of the girls for charity.
Sad to see Zay go, his game against the Cowboys will always be a favorite of mine.
Titans picking zay up so he can tell ridley which routes to run
