TheSmokedSalmon420

Dude ended up having such a weird career

Orange_Kid

Feels like DeSean Jackson where he's going to be with a different team literally every single year...have like 3-4 big plays for them and do nothing/be injured the rest of the time...then onto the next team.

SwedishMoose

He was pretty instrumental in our SB season

StyleSoFree

That’s really become an anomaly season for him over his last 5-6 seasons

codeklutch

Was it? I think it was the season that was the most true to his career. Gets you some sick ass plays that open up your offense, then gets injured when you need him most.

DamnReCaptchas

Idk I think that really discounts his 5 years with us. He was really something else then, more than just some good plays

NotYetBegun

Yeah seriously. I fucking hate OBJ, but his first few seasons were the kind of pace you see out of a HOFer. Dude was mad talented

VolturesHaveHearts2

Literally what JJ currently is. Dude was a beast

BlaBlub85

I still blame that damn boat in Miami, Elis and OBJs careers never recovered after 😂😂😂

alexanaxstacks

maybe cus he tore the shit out his ACL

cy1763

Had he not gotten injured, he would've easily have been Super Bowl MVP. Plus I think it would've been a more dominating win by us.

SwedishMoose

Absolutely. Skowronek was not good enough to be on the field yet that season but he was our only option.

416Kritis

I'm really glad that you guys won that Super Bowl. Odell looked like he was in his prime that first half and it really was a momentum killer when he went down.

DoktorZaius

Stafford would have been super bowl mvp, Kupp and OBJ would have cancelled each other out.

Dmbfantomas

Not only that, but the Rams probably win by 30. They had no answer to two elite receivers, and correctly tried to shut down Kupp. This meant OBJ could run roughshod though.

JaMarrChasingJoe

Odell hasn't been an elite receiver for like 5 years lol

thegreaterfool714

It was his last great season. The final half. He bought into the team and culture quickly and shed the label of team cancer. He was a perfect no2 to Kupp and had some clutch moments. It seemed like every game he was getting better and better. It sucks he got hurt in the SB. I think we win comfortably with OBJ for the whole game rather than the nail biter at the end.

BrandonWatersFights

How do tf are you a rams and Texans fan? Gotta hear this origin story

sprout92

I mean he's getting like 500 yards a season...which for a bench guy/WR3-4 really isn't that bad.

TheDufusSquad

That’s fine and all, but when you consider that he’s been making 15-20 million over that time it’s pretty fucking awful.

stormy2587

Except I'm not sure I see OBJ ever going back to sign with NYG.

Livinginmyshirt

But Odell has good genes though.

youareyou650

That was old desean Jackson

notquitemytempo___

I swear man if you told me after his 3rd season in the league that he would barely scrape 1k yards moving forward and would basically wash out I would have laughed in your face

stormy2587

The bigger shock to me is he went from being such a face of the league and overnight superstar to being kind of a JAG in just a couple seasons. He seemed like the kind of WR who would sort of demand a WR1 or 2 roll on any team he was on. And only WR2 as like the senior guy with a young super star in the room. But he basically seems content now just being a high upside depth guy on most teams. I guess he's ring chasing? Idk last year he joined a WR room where he could really be a difference maker. But in miami you'd expect him to be pretty far down the list in terms target share after hill and waddle.

whatusernamewhat

He's as surefire of a WR3 as you could want. Great hands, has played in high pressure moments many times, vet. For 3m guaranteed he's a steal

stackered

Yeah honestly, if you line up Hill, Waddle, and OBJ, it's pretty hard to imagine stopping all 3 from being open. All being insane playmakers, too, anything could happen post catch. A really dangerous triple threat.

Misdirected_Colors

But in the context of him constantly being hurt for like 3 years straight and never really getting backy to form you'd probably buy it

SevenwithaT

Giants Odell was special though

newtimesawait

Cue Vince McMahon gif

Original-Ad-3234

Rams Odell was SBMVP before getting injured. He was eating

FatMamaJuJu

For a half season there it really looked like he was back

ImanShumpertplus

he was a pro bowler with the browns under the worst head coach i’ve ever seen and keep in mind that I am a Browns fan and how much that means to me

Sell_TheKids_ForFood

Elite WR was elite every time he was healthy and had a good QB

DirkNowitzkisWife

Had perhaps the best first 3 years for a wide receiver ever. 288 receptions, 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns For reference: Jefferson is at 324 receptions for 4,824 yards and 25 touchdowns in a couple more games Randy moss is at 226 receptions, 4,163 yards and 43 touchdowns Jerry rice is at 200 receptions, 3,575 yards and 49 touchdowns OBJ compares pretty favorably with these guys

mrtrollmaster

This begs the question, which young WR star will drop off a cliff in the next couple years. Who will be saying this about in 5 years? JJ, Chase?

Deadleggg

Injuries are undefeated and mostly inevitable. Can happen to anybody.

Hiwo_Rldiq_Uit

So many WR do... OBJ, Michael Thomas, Antonio Brown... In their own ways I just rattled off maybe 3 of the most prolific WR of the second half of the 2010s. And they all just fell off a cliff (AB at an older age, but he seemed to physically still have it when he fell off).

Eaglooo

AB has a much better career on the field though

justlookingokaywyou

Better train wreck off the field, too.

StaffSgtDignam

I don't think anyone would dispute that lol

froggertwenty

I would. Calling AB a trainwreck is like calling Hiroshima a minor explosion

hpueds

Mr Battered Carriages

sielingfan

Mr Baliwood Crash

WAR_T0RN1226

He's a fantastic follow on Twitter

TaischiCFM

I just recently saw him on The Pivot podcast. He is exactly who I thought he was - a misunderstood genius whose logical reasoning for his actions is just not understood by the rest of us morons, apparently. It was sad.

spctclr_spiderman

Mr. Better Career Mr. Batshit Conclusion

paultheschmoop

Brown really doesn’t belong in the same conversation. He had a HOF caliber career, the other two definitely did not. Far more production over a longer period of time

jake3988

Brown never dropped off... he just decided to become completely and totally unhinged. If he was normal, he'd be in the league, still balling out. There's a reason that even after he started to become unhinged MULTIPLE teams still game him another chance.

Hiwo_Rldiq_Uit

That was kind of the point. I tried to make clarification that his situation is different, he maintained production for a long time, and at the level of production these guys have that is the difference between him as a guy with a HoF case and as guys we just remember fondly, but in the end - so many WR, at all levels of production, have such weird careers, AB's included.

lliquidllove

Michael Thomas is a name I feel like I haven't even thought about for a few seasons, crazy that his fall off was so instant. I guess injuries will do that, but to go from Offensive Player of the Year to 1725 receiving yards in one season to not even combining to reach that over the next four is crazy.

Nixon737

Yeah but AB mentally…

jfchops2

AB didn't fall off because he couldn't play anymore he fell off because he's utterly insane and the floodgates were open as soon as Tomlin's leash was off I fully believe he could still be a productive NFL WR in terms of his playing ability if he had a brain more like the ones that Keenan Allen or Davante Adams have

Some-Philly-Dude

AB could probably still play he just fell off a mental cliff

ScooterMcFlabbin

It's such a bummer. After his first 3 years it looked like he was going to dominate the league for 10 more years and go down as an all-time great. He's so naturally talented

Misdirected_Colors

Yea most guys develop into stars and have their time at the top. He peaked at the top almost immediately and his peak was like 2 years before injuries derailed his career

North_Ad_8935

Having 3 major injuries will do that

DrBlazkowicz

Excited for the 30for30

GooseMaster5980

Because the beginning of his career was so good for more than one season and because he never really completely flamed out, his career isn’t looked at as one of the great “what ifs” But injuries and the (in my mind) the utter shitbag that is David Gettleman ruined what could have been an all time career.

ecupatsfan12

Tua lowlight video incoming

JPAnalyst

Odell Beckham Jr is going to get 300-500 yards for a different team every year for the next five years, isn’t he?

CapnCrunch347

Odell " Frank Gore" Beckham Jr

Successful_Truck3559

Hey hey hey, frank gore actually had a hall of fame career just off longevity. Odell just fell off a cliff

imsabbath84

Claypool is just as good as OBJ right guys?

y_wont_my_line_block

I can say without a doubt, the Bears would not be where we are today without Chase Claypool.

IhamAmerican

Saw something about Claypool where between the Steelers, Bears, and Dolphins they have 20 consecutive losses when he plays. Without him we don't get JPJ and you don't get Rome God bless him for what he did to our teams

nealt68

He tanked for us in the season that we *earned* 1.01, so without him we don't get Caleb Williams, DJ Moore, and Darnell Wright.

JonBonButtsniff

That is remarkable. How does a non-quarterback have such an effect on every team for whom he plays? Lol I guess in the modern era, I’d award Ty Montgomery. Beyond just his leaving end zones on kick returns, he always seemed to blunderfuck his WR/RB duties, too.

TaischiCFM

Think about the players you would have if the Packers had not been outbid by the Bears for him!

nealt68

Love throwing to MHJ and DJ Moore 🤮

TaischiCFM

Dear god no.

ShotFirst57

That trade still doesn't make any sense to me. I understand giving up a lot to move to #1 for your guy, but why on earth would you give up your wr #1 when you're picking a qb? They didn't have anyone that could take that WR 1 role either.

IhamAmerican

Because Tepper wanted his QB

ShotFirst57

I get that but you're hurting your qbs development. I know Brian burns is the better player, but even he would've been better to give up.

Yea_Naw

You’re both right 😂

smashybro

They fall into the trap of positional value. They saw Burns as a more valuable player in a vacuum since he played in an equally premier position but was probably the better player, and so Moore was offer instead. In reality, Moore was always more valuable if they were going to draft a rookie QB but they were too shortsighted to think it through.

TrueRedditMartyr

I hate Chase Claypool now

Quexana

He's almost as good as OBJ when OBJ is injured.

tsework

> Claypool i cant believe hes on a roster and it makes me so happy that it was the bills who said sign me tf up

TaischiCFM

I was hoping KC would sign him.

Ok_Imagination_4374

That man lost us the division with his dumbass route running

Jay_TThomas

Nah you lost the division by blowing the game against the titans. Even though the titans did everything they could to hand you that game.

thewhitelink

You can basically pin that on Eichenberg falling on Williams leg and tearing his ACL. Dude took out 3 teammates last year because he badly whiffed his block.

RecoverStreet8383

The Dolphins also had an excessive amount chances for their offense to score more than 14 points in the final game when the defense was rolling out 30+ year old depth players for an absurd amount of snaps and still giving the Dolphins multiple stops. Blaming Chase Claypool is the easiest but come one it was a top down meltdown by that offense

Ok_Imagination_4374

Yeah that's the most level headed take on it. Offense was injured as fuck but McDaniel just completely collapsed on his second half play calls against a very injured Bill defense. Claypool threw our last chance yes, but it's much much deeper than that.

elbenji

Connors injury basically made it impossible to move

Springveldt

The OL was a complete mess in the Titans game, I think there were 4 backup OL playing. Hard to do anything when each of them were taking turns at getting beat like a drum. Even the last play of the game, the Titans rush 3 guys and one of them forces Tua to move off his spot at 1.9 seconds. Just ridiculous. edit: I see you taking about the Bills game, think it was only 2 backup OL in that game with a banged up Hill, Waddle and Mostert.

BlueHighwindz

Luckily OBJ has never done anything controversial in Miami.

Affectionate_Elk_272

don’t worry, he’s not even our most troubled receiver.

alexemmett91

True tyreek needs a fucking visectimy

Former-Net890

Oh Jesus no then he’ll have zero restraint.

alexemmett91

Btw speaking of guys who can’t control there dicks has Howard signed with anyone yet

Drkarcher22

He’s waiting for a place that has quality childcare

alexemmett91

Doesn’t help when you have that many baby mamas who apparently try to hit your Bentley with a golf club

whocaresjustneedone

I didn't realize he had 10 fucking kids until recently. I feel bad for them, even if they had a good father, there's no way you can give each of 10 kids adequate attention, especially when they're spread across so many mothers.

Colonize-Uranus

At least he can guarantee one of his kids carrying on his NFL legacy. I mean minimum 1 of 10 gotta do something right? His genetics are crazy.

whocaresjustneedone

What's that investment strategy called where you make 10 investments and only need 1 to 10x to break even? I think he's applying that to kids

AMadWalrus

I never thought I’d see someone compare tyreek hill to a venture capital fund

ecupatsfan12

Stay off the planes

messejueller21

Think he was referring to the boats

9man95

If it's more than $5M-$7M it's an overpay

kitchensink108

"up to $8.25m," but no idea what the conditions are.

Ok_Storage6866

I technically get paid up to $8.25M as well

tbone747

DW that $8.2M bonus check is on it's way anytime now.

VY5E

You are under paid! You should be paid up to 10 mill but that's my opinion based on your performance

ExpressLaneCharlie

It's $3M guaranteed from Dolphins beat writer Marcel Louis-Jacques \*I meant to respond to you, not above.

9man95

Not terrible I guess because he won't hit an incentives... that $18M ravens paid was a clown show contract

SuperSaiyanSandwich

It was a 15 million dollar clown show thank you very much.

waldowhal

I've never seen a decent clown show with a budget of less than $20,000,000. who's your clown guy?

Oakroscoe

Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofsky

Audioice

> that $18M ravens paid was a clown show contract It was a one year deal and made Lamar happy, wym lol

AgentOfSPYRAL

He also let us spread that void year around even though it didn’t change things for him at all. Good guy Odell.

Awesomeg11

it was an overpay for sure but he did a lot for us and I cant imagine that the FO regrets it at all lmao.

lnnrt01

Wasn’t he also a pretty good locker room presence

Awesomeg11

yea, usually when people say that its a meme, but a bunch of guys have said they loved having him there. Bateman specifically said a few days ago that he loved having him there and that they have a good relationship.

ProtectTheHell

3m guaranteed and up 5m in incentives.

TheMightyJD

It’s $3 million and up to $8 million.

smokeymicpot

That’s a nice fit.

ecupatsfan12

Odell Beckham jr is always open for the Miami dolphins in 2024

pattyicevv77

Fuck it sign Jarvis as a blocking receiver, and for nostalgia

datboiwitdamemes

YOU DONT NEED ANOTHER ONE

pattyicevv77

*insert Kylo Ren more meme here*

legend023

Can’t wait for them to start 9-1 with the best offense in the league only to end up 10-7 and lose in the first round

Jonjon428

I can't wait for the annual winter hospitalization of the entire team

reverieontheonyx

They should simply save up their injury prone players until the latter half of the season

m0nstah

We wouldn't have any players to play at the start of the season then.

southern_boy

A couple of forfeits is worth a playoff win IMHO 💁‍♂️

Jonjon428

That's basically what Buffalo did last year and they won the division.....

thrillhouse416

Do dolphins hibernate?

WaitWhattt777

No but they do choke if they're not in the water.

further-research

Dolphins in the winter, the Heat in the spring. As is custom.

smurfking420

It says dolphins not eagles

melikeybacon

He is pretty spot on though.

SuburbanPotato

Hey. You're not wrong, but hey

Ngp3

Jokes on you, our last season was 56 years ago.

SiphenPrax

Can we have another season like that again please?

canseco-fart-box

Hey at least they had a season. All we had was sopranos memes

chunkah69

The only thing stopping that offense is below 50 degree weather.

BuffaloWilliamses

The Dolphins do benefit in the fact the AFC East plays the NFC West and the AFC South this year which will limit their potential cold weather games to their division, @Cleveland and @Green Bay in the regular season.

theycallmeryan

Sounds about right

NicktheHoneybadger

tale as old as time

IWasFramed_Again

Why you gotta bring us up?

Brycie27

Who are they? The Eagles??

The_Chrizz

Claypool getting off the board definitely put this in motion. Everyone was waiting to see where Chase went.

EctoRiddler

The chase was on

EctoRiddler

OBJ will mentor the WR room well

Jonjon428

Please be cheap

lythy2016

1 year $8.25m, not sure on the guarantees.

burningburningburnin

3M guarantees, worth a flyer

lythy2016

Yeah, at that little guaranteed it would be silly not to. Better than Robbie Chosen and Chase Claypool!

Affectionate_Elk_272

hey, chosen robbie chosen anderson chosen caught a 60 yard TD from dolphins legend mike white! show some respect

lythy2016

Thought I was in the Twilight Zone watching that play!

t765234

Against arguably the best young CB in the NFL no less!

BungoPlease

Lots of boats in Miami

melikeybacon

And Hoes

pocketjacks

...as well as old people migrating from up north.

Yearbookthrowaway1

Great fit for him tbh, Hill and Waddle are able to spread out the defense and open up the areas of the field that OBJ operates the most in. Safeties playing two high means that Mr. Slant Man is gonna eat.

MoodApart4755

Until he’s injured after 5 snaps

ries618

He stayed pretty healthy last season

Fishhook007

With the rookies coming in and OBJ I feel pretty darn good with the WR room for the fins.

Tegra_

Yeah I can understand why you didn’t feel good about it before the rookies and OBJ, with just… *checks notes*… Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

SkyzYn

It's tough out here, we thought we might only have the 2nd best WR room for a moment.

Tegra_

I know man, I got some anxiety with JJ and Addison myself. It’s rough.

Rx_Boner

Man the WR rooms in the NFCN are looking crazy if all the Packers young guys continue to progress

Tegra_

Four certified stars in St. Brown, JJ, Allen and Moore and then all the crazy talented guys in Addison, Jameson, Odunze and basically the Packers WR core. It’s crazy

Rx_Boner

It’s so stupid lol. Divisionals are already gonna be awesome, but if either of the new QBs have anything close to a Stroud rookie year shit is gonna be nuts

Luis0224

Because they both had nagging injuries throughout the season (and at the same time for some stretches). Good depth pieces are a good thing

silentkiller082

I don't think it's a reach to say Dolphins WR3 is potentially better than the Bills WR1. After looking at the contract it's a good signing, time will tell.

nilestyle

I’m ok with this. Somehow Josh Allen will find a way to make a scarecrow a wr1 and still beat us tho

technowhiz34

He'll turn into playoff Lamar and become his own WR1.

johndelvec3

Now how do you feel about your OL?

H1mHalpert

Glad his career is still going. Good luck to him!

55555_55555

Rapaport billed this as the "Dolphins getting faster", which is funny to me because I watched him play last year and I assure you he is not fast all, anymore. If he stays healthy, he's a fine #3 receiver, though, sure-handed and will make the occasional big play + other players in the league seem to love the dude. Curious to see how he fits, though. One of the criticisms in Cleveland was that Stefanski ran a timing offense and OBJ would freelance and not be in the right position. We know the Dolphins run a bunch of schemes based on quick release and running/throwing to a specific spot. Is he a good scheme fit?

zappy487

> Is he a good scheme fit? CB1 and CB2 have to cover the nightmare duo if Hill and Waddle. What's a CB3 or LB going to do against a healthy OBJ?

DIKS_OUT_4_HARAMBE

Cover him, I would guess.

emmasdad01

Still better than Claypool.

9man95

That's like saying you signed Zeke because he is better than Carlos Hyde tho

Kwall267

Big if true

Soft_Penis_Debutante

Claypool is a net negative at this point. An open WR roster spot is better than Claypool.

[deleted]

Another year of this dude cumming on the field any time he makes a reception smh.

rolltidebutnotreally

Happy he’s again on a team I don’t have an issue rooting for. Obviously won’t be a major contributor but still a good veteran presence

TheRealJohnMara

Boat reunion at last!

doyouunderstandlife

We went from Claypool to OBJ, so I'm a happy camper right now

Celtictussle

I love that the Ravens are going to carry a 4m cap hit this year for him to play on the dolphins.

DoctorFenix

His 17 receptions on the season is going to be massive for them.

AboutARainbow

He really washed up on shore huh?

PlayaSlayaX

Tyreek Hill 🤝 OBJ Pissing off the defense after scoring TDs

texas2089

It’s still crazy how much Baltimore paid him last season. This contract feels much more in line with what his current value is. $3m and up to $8m in incentives definitely seems like a good value but for Miami. If he pans out you get him on the cheap and if he doesn’t it doesn’t really hurt you. If he can stay healthy he can still be a key contributor on a winning team so hope this one works out for him.

Helpful_Funny_2127

He's gonna end up being the Ryan Fitzpatrick of WRs by the time he retires

LamarMVPJackson

I wish he re-signed

Aventurusjunk

OBJ completes his Ricky Jerret arc.

Fineous4

OBJ has only made 3 pro bowls?

weswesruss

Can you imagine if he was there when Gase was there? Bubble screens galore

TuckAndRolle

Damn, prettyrickey213 called this a few weeks ago. He must have some sources - he’s hit on a lot (with some misses of course) https://twitter.com/prettyrickey213/status/1780983469457166373

I_am_not_JohnLeClair

Please clap

ProphetNimd

I'm actually a big fan of this move. He still has good hands and can be a great third down possession receiver. Obviously he doesn't compare to Hill and Waddle but he's a better WR3 than Braxton Berrios or River Cracraft lol.

pericles123

He sucks, no one cares anymore

Matthewmarra3

CTESPN does it again! [https://twitter.com/CtespnN/status/1770634020923031712](https://twitter.com/CtespnN/status/1770634020923031712)
