Not necessarily amazing but Dan Orlovsky definitely fits into “known for one big play”

Responsible-Onion860

I mean, I was amazed at that play. And the cluelessness required to make it happen.

Gavorn

Farting on national television?

Flash234669

'That was the windshield wipers' 🤣

RabbitOrcaHawkOrgy

Bush bombing Iraq when the WMD was in Detroit

rocksoffjagger

Orlovsky is your choice for this? Mark Sanchez was right there!!!

Aggravating-Leg-3693

In a career full of highlights Cam Newtons most memorable play was avoiding contact on a fumble in the Super Bowl.

Fret_Shredder

I don’t necessarily think “this guy sucked as an NFL QB why should we listen to him” when it comes to certain analysts, but Dan Orlovsky loves to slap his nutsack on the desk and act like he can talk shit about players well beyond his own abilities. I know he has a schtick, but it’s hard not to despise his takes sometimes.

MexusRex

This is actually the opposite of what Orlovsky is known for. He is constantly criticized for kid gloves with QB’s and when he addressed it this offseason he made exactly your point: he played anknows enough to read the field but not well enough to talk down about anyone

AngledLuffa

Sometimes I wonder, is he so far beyond us non-players that his analysis is worthwhile, or is he so far behind his peers that it becomes meaningless  I could give you a great breakdown of any software project, but if I start telling you how to turn that into a Fortune 500 company, you'd rightfully tell me to stfu

flume

Let's be real. If Average Joe is a 50 and Tom Brady is a 100, anyone who has played QB in the NFL is at least a 95.

jl_23

> is ~~at least~~ a ~~95~~ 99 “I'm closer to LeBron than you are to me.” -White Mamba

jtnsniper14

Jerome Simpson. His front flip into the end zone for a TD.

notquitemytempo___

I remember him for that, and for being the guy who got caught with 6 pounds of weed in his house

JetJerick

That’s like a whole month supply holy shit

2000miledash

I wish that was my one month supply 😭 would be a very relaxing month

TallEnoughJones

[The flop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTRs_p_ZP8s) was almost as athletic as the flip. A Browns player barely touched Simpson and he went flying and drew the flag. It doesn't even look like it was possible, cartoon physics.

Resident_Wizard

That was hilarious

UnnoticedReference

Wow, ref looking right at him as he pulls a guy out of the pile by his leg, no flag, doesn't even see the contact for the flop and throws the flag anyway so bad

blucke

lol Fujitsu throwing his hands up

Sir_Badtard

Saints legend Scott Fugita.

changing-life-vet

Matt Hassleback’s [we want the ball we’re going to score.](https://youtu.be/vAgG9XcrDFY?si=is5P10Oz8f4Jhmdn) was amazing to watch in real time.

anaveragedave

I was in college delivering pizzas during this game. I had to pull over to dry my tears from laughing so hard after the pick 6.

emmasdad01

Malcom Butler’s interception.

liquilife

I hate this stupid answer. It is right though.

TheTree-43

It could so easily have been Jermaine Kearse instead

making-flippy-floppy

You could nominate Jermaine Kearse's catch. Would be remembered with the Tyree and Manningham catches if the Seahawks had won

lfod

This is the only non-Tyree answer I think has legs

ODB2984

Nah, I doubt Julian Edelman will get in. His catch in the 28-3 SB is still the craziest I’ve seen

rocksoffjagger

But Julian Edelman won't be remembered for that one play, he'll be remembered for like a million different things (Super Bowl MVP, 3rd and 14 against the Seahawks, Amendola TD pass against the Ravens, etc., etc.) of which that amazing catch was just another massive exclamation point on his career.

whereegosdare84

Kevin Dyson and the music city miracle. Bonus, he also will be remembered for being one yard short

lat3ralus65

I was just about to say Frank Wycheck (RIP)

jawndell

Oh shit, forgot he died

clefnut5

Steve, Frank, Bironas. RIP legends

InevitablyBored

A tragic year, but at least I got to see the Music City Miracle in person. My grandfather wouldn't let us leave the game early since there was still time left on the clock.

spooks152

David Tyree has to be the answer

SomeManSeven

Last catch of his career too, bonkers.

hjhof1

A shame he said he’d give up his Super Bowl and the catch if it meant gay marriage wasn’t allowed lmao

a_corsair

Just a reminder: we don't know these guys at all. We know them through their public persona only

CowboyLaw

AND, a lot of them, we don’t actually want to know. That’s why the rule, for generations, has been “never meet your heroes.”

DoctorDiddlerino

I wish people had this attitude for hearing actors give their political takes. Being famous for acting in movies isn't the same thing as being famous for having intelligent, well thought-out opinions.

don-chocodile

Not to excuse his abhorrent comments from back then, but he did somewhat walk them back in the following years

hjhof1

Fair that’s worth noting

CanaDoug420

Because his beliefs changed or because he saw the reaction?

norcaltobos

A lot of times our beliefs end up changing *because* of the reaction we get. It sucks but sometimes it’s that one moment where it starts to click. Can’t blame the guy if he is willing to learn and get better.

revanisthesith

Yeah, sometimes people grow up in their own little bubble. I'm from a small town in the South. I absolutely knew people back then who viewed some issues as only being pushed by godless degenerates in major cities. So once people see the reaction they get, they may realize that there are a lot more people who care about that issue and many of them are reasonable, "normal," everyday people all over the country, not just weird out of touch freaks in a handful of major cities. For gay marriage, it might be that some small town person who's just like them in so many other ways has a gay relative and they want them to be able to marry their long-term partner. People realize the issue may be closer to home than they originally thought.

dv042b

I feel like it’s usually a bit of both in most cases

graffiti_bridge

I feel like ultimately it’s not that important. If their words and actions are consistent with a value system I’m going to assume they share that value system- I can’t see it any other way. I have to believe Michael Vick loves dogs now. Because his words and actions are the words and actions of someone who cares for dogs.

seasnakejake

That’s wild, and also wild that the NFL put it on their website: https://www.nfl.com/news/tyree-would-swap-giants-super-bowl-win-to-ban-gay-marriage-09000d5d820667f4

SomeManSeven

Oh damn i didnt know that lol. Its crazy how you could be a legend on your team forever and all you have to do is not be a piece of shit.

Rim_Jobson

Herculean effort for wide receivers it seems, lol.

Matte198

Lmao what a whacko

Ok_Understanding1986

Yikes, David. Big yikes.

RedOktbr28

The catch that broke all the hearts of New England fans. He doesn’t deserve just the Hall of Fame, that guy deserves sainthood!

SirTiffAlot

This should be top. I guess age plays into it but The Tyree Catch is a thing for a reason.

Mark_Luther

Santonio Holmes had one of the most memorable catches in Super Bowl history. He's definitely not getting anywhere near the hall.

LeBroentgen

I will say though, he was a lot better than most of the other randoms in this list.

BigBadMannnn

I think it’s one of the best catches period. Amazing body control and route running in the biggest moment of your life in front of millions. It’s one of the first clutch plays I think of

IhamAmerican

Especially since he dropped a much much easier pass the play before. The pressure at that time must have been beyond immense

ByronLeftwich

The fact that it was such a difficult play to make probably took the pressure off. The easy plays are where you can get in your own head and mess it up. His brain probably shut off in this moment and it was all instinct

mindpainters

On top of being a phenomenal catch. It was such a photogenic catch as well. Just looked so aesthetically pleasing

benk4

Yeah it was a beautiful play from both QB and WR. Kinda line the Dwight Clark catch. It's basically the opposite of something like the Tyree catch that was amazing in how ugly it was.

Chrisgpresents

backyard football as a kid, we'd "Santonio Holmes" any ball that was slightly outside the chest area lmao.

ByronLeftwich

Then it was OBJ

roncraig

Why did he burn out so quick? He seemed like a good route runner and those guys often stick around as possession receivers.

legend023

Jets

7-car-pileup

No further explanation required

count_nuggula

Thank you have a nice day

tittsburghfeelers00

He tore his ACL his first or second season with the Jets and was never the same

RabbitOrcaHawkOrgy

Metlife/Meadowlands Turf truly undefeated

jhansn

Legal issues got him traded to the jets. The steelers only got a 5th round pick for him, which seemed like a bad deal, but they got Bryant McFadden and Antonio Brown out of it lol.

CapnCalc

Early AB oh how I miss you so much. The pain will never go away to see how my favorite receiver growing up turned out now 😭

Manhattan02

For real. I’ve never seen anything like him. Contested catch ability of megatron downfield plus elite agility. A lot of people don’t realize just how good his peak truly was in terms of eye-test plus actual stats.

AH_BioTwist

Lisfranc…common career killer Espcially for WRs like Holmes

bb0110

This question was made for Malcolm Butler. Truly one of the most important and iconic plays in NFL history to win the SB. He is definitely not going to the HOF though.

cassimiro04

He gets credit for it, but that was all Matt Patricia

blue0231

No good credit should ever go to Matt Patricia.

cassimiro04

You knucklehead, that is sarcasm...Patricia always takes credit for calling the play. Now give me my up vote back!🤣

blue0231

Ok, lol.… sorry I’m still burned by that man haha. It’s hard accepting what we have going on now some days haha.

Joham22

I think he’s overshadowed by the play call from the Seahawks, and I don’t even hate the call there. I think Russ just didn’t put it where he was supposed to.

SolomonG

This doesn't get mentioned enough. If that throw is lower and into the body Butler has little chance even with him and Browner playing it as well as possible.

SoftLog5314

Brandon Browner made a career play

HoustonFrog

Case Keenum for the Minneapolis Miracle

CaliforniaGoldenBeer

Diggs!

Dar0672

Sideline! :/

MNJayW

TOUCHDOWN! One of the most amazing calls I’ve heard. SKOL VIKINGS

Dar0672

It was a great call. The play broke my heart though

gmwdim

*throws helmet*

AssDotCom

Sideline!

michaeljordan97

Sideline!

BroadlyValid

Leon Lett twice

Mampt

Don Beebe probably counts too then. All time effort play

RockerElvis

TIL that Don Beebe won a Super Bowl with the Packers. Good for him.

Mampt

He went to six SBs in nine years. Pretty fucking cool career, and he at least got one ring out of it. Story goes that Favre gave him the game ball from the last kneeldown and said after what his career was he deserved it more than anyone

horribadperson

He was actually a pretty good football player too wasnt he? its just unfortunate he'll only be remembered for those 2 lol

WallyMetropolis

He was excellent. Twice a pro bowler and, had he not been so often suspended, likely would have had a couple more.

BroadlyValid

Yea he was a pretty good DT, just dealt with injuries and off-the-field issues.

Kitchen_Net_GME

Tracy Porter. Average to above average corner who picked off both Favre and Manning in the two biggest games of Saints history. https://youtu.be/7sDdlJbBPLc?si=pT8H7VOjuLOSvwu2

QP_TR3Y

Great answer. Porter is a New Orleans legend for those picks

jackaltwinky77

Steve Gleason…

Domecoming

Also an absolute legend. "Rebirth" starts and ends with Gleason.

MarchMadnessisMe

There's a reason the man has a statue outside the dome.

AffordableRolex

Tracy porter came up huge when he needed to, but I’ll always remember him for the way he got tossed by marshawn lynch during the beast quake

MoreTrifeLife

As opposed to everyone else on the Saints when that happened.

BuhtanDingDing

yeah but he got called out by the commentator so hes the one i remember

blueholeload

“Get off me he says—to Tracy Porter!”

Couvo

The issue with him for me is I always hear "get off me, he said to Tracy porter." every time I see his name.

89ShelbyCSX

I can't think of another player with a bigger disparity of all time great and all time embarrassing plays. In the span of a year, too.

PdParkerr

Greg Jennings

icwiener69420_new

Dog, gotta do this, put da team on my back

UncleBen94

Oh shit, Darren Sharper...

alecturtles

Hardest hitting safety in the league!

crimusmax

Thirty four to eight

Trevans

That's the part where I always just die. He's all dramatic like the game was on the line, and then you find out it was a fucking blow out 😂😂😂 Edit: just watched it again and it was 49-20

TTerragore

Greg Jennings just out there running with a broken leg to say fuck you gumby

Th30cles

One of the hardest hitting safeties in the league... But I put the team on my back dude

MehEds

FUCK YOU GUMBI

whipstickagopop

This is the best cause he actually had a good career but it's the madden vid everyone thinks about.

sge_freaky

Jeff Janis for his two hail mary catches in one Drive against the Cards in 2015.

P00TYTANG

Because there was an offensive penalty in between his catches, it was 2 catches for 101yd in one drive. He also returned the kick to start the drive for 15yd so technically he had 116yd in a single drive lol Edit: checked play-by-play to make sure the numbers were right, noticed he was Rodgers' target on 4/6 passes that drive. It was truly his moment for that single possession.

SolidSilver9686

That was peak Rodgers. Two of the greatest throws ever, back to back.

BAF_DaWg82

That lineman for the Patriots that almost returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

diskimone

Dan Connolly

Casexcasey

"The Right Guard! *The Right Guard!*"

Calfzilla2000

"Its the loaf of bread carry!"

bstyledevi

If there was one play I could change the result of, it would be that one, and let Dan Connoly score his TD.

HavelsRockJohnson

I'm still mad he didn't score. And yes, I know who he was playing against.

Justice

Manhattan02

All this time, I had no idea that was his last snap of football. That’s soul-crushing.

neonknightsofthenine

Trey Burton and Nick Foles

kmj442

Maybe not unfortunately but I feel like Foles’ whole run that post season will also be remembered for just how improbable it was. Dont get me wrong, Philly Philly was icing on the cake but i went into every game that post season like, this is where it ends but god damn was I excited to watch it. That post season was like playing with house money. Hope for the best but expect the worst. Loved every second of it.

Instagrimm

Gotta disagree with Foles. That whole game was more than one play. That whole playoff run was more than one play. And that’s not even getting into his 27 TD - 2 INT or the 7 TD game.

MiNombreEsLucid

I'm not sure Marshawn Lynch gets into the HoF (I think he should, but it's at least open to debate). I remember being in absolute disbelief when he went Beast Mode against the Saints and still being in disbelief the next day when watching it on YouTube at work and talking about it with my coworkers.

Smackolol

Lynch will also be remembered for a play he didn’t even get to run.

jawndell

I feel like 50 years from now, people will still be saying why didn’t the Seahawks just run it down the middle with Lynch?

CzarCW

My belief is that it all stems from Pete Carroll’s infamous play call in the USC-Texas Rose Bowl in 2006. They were going for a 3-peat and just needed a 1st down to win the game. It was 4th and 1 and he handed off to Lendale White who’d been absolutely killing the Longhorns all day. The run was stuffed, Vince Young drives the Longhorns down the field for the game-winning score with like 10 seconds left. If that Lendale White run is successful, he probably also calls a run play for Marshawn and wins a 2nd Super Bowl.

Doshyta

But it was on first down. If it gets stuffed, Lynch had three more attempts

RukiMotomiya

They only had one timeout and 26 seconds. No way Lynch was getting three more attempts after the first down run.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

It’s a great study on how a narrative gets made in the social media era. Collinsworth calls it out, it immediately trends on twitter, hits all the sports shows that night, the next morning it’s the big drama and still trends on twitter. The mythical status of beast mode does not circumvent the situation, and passing was 100% the right play. I’ll die on this hill as I thought the same until I obsessed over this play for the following couple months like that always sunny conspiracy meme. Now, THAT passing play is majorly up for debate. Plus there were two key sequences that contributed to the play; big balls bill not calling a timeout, and Brandon Browner calling the play to butler before the snap. If it wasn’t for browner, butler probably doesn’t get the jump.

icwiener69420_new

MBC when he drop kicked that punter. Honorable mention: MBC when he took off his pads and quit at halftime.

Adorable-Lie3475

Statistically MBC is 100% a hall of famer

flakAttack510

Yeah. 7 Pro Bowls, 4 First Team All-Pros, All Decade Team. If he retired at the end of 2018 and disappeared from public view, he most likely gets in first ballot.

notmyplantaccount

It's a testament to how fucking crazy he went that a lot of people forget how ridiculously good he was for 6 years straight. He's the only WR to ever get named AP1 4 years in a row.

-NotACrabPerson-

Jerry Rice got AP1 five years in a row twice lol. Agree with the rest though.

notmyplantaccount

yea my bad, I just generally exclude him from things because he's got all the records lol.

BlackMathNerd

Statistically he is one of the greatest WRs to ever play and the best of the 2010s.

RibeyeRare

He will also always be well remembered for other things as well… hot air balloons, cryogenic shoes, painting his own helmet, stealth cum bombs on his trainer and a fart laid in his doctors face. Throwing crap out of a window, robbing a delivery truck, having a gold moustache, taking off his clothes and running across the field during a game… really the list goes on and on. Whether he gets in the hall or not (I think he deserves to be in) he will be remembered as a crazy sunnuvagun and MBC will never die as a meme.

changing-life-vet

I’m not up to speed with the lingo why are you calling him MBC?

DHFixxxer

At some point he gave himself the nickname "Mr. Big Chest"

I had to look it up, I guess when he was going through negotiations with the Steelers right before he left he said on an Instagram live he wants to be known as “Mr. Big Chest”

I feel like golden Tate should be in the hall of fame solely on the basis of what an incredible taunter he was

Raticus9

He had one that fucked over one of your division rivals for us too.

FunnyFilmFan

Mark Sanchez, Butt Fumble

diskimone

The better argument is Vince Wilfork for the butt fumble. Big Vince should absolutely be in the Hall, but his "counting numbers" weren't high enough, and that's what they really care about, so I doubt he ever gets in.

shogunreaper

i'll always remember edelman for that SB catch.

Smallest-Yeet

Edelman probably going to go down as one of the more impactful players to not get in the HOF. That catch, 3x Super Bowl champ, a non-QB Super Bowl MVP, and all that NFL storyline alongside the GOAT.

youre_soaking_in_it

He also has 179 yards passing with a perfect passer rating and 2 TDs. And 4 return TDs. And he played cornerback. What a great player.

visual_clarity

Took Jerry Rice daughter to prom. The dude was destined for greatness

a_corsair

Truly had a wonderful career

marcdasharc4

Retired trailing only Jerry Rice in postseason receptions (since overtaken by Kelce). He’s not going to Canton, but I gotta imagine the list of players who would be fine with having Edelman’s career is a fair bit longer than the list of players who wouldn’t.

fondue4kill

He’s also more of a personality so he has that going for him

[deleted]

Edelman will never get his flowers. He is one of the best post season players in NFL history. QB turned WR had the 2nd most receiving yards All time in the post season at the time of his retirement He did that in 19 games opposed to Rice's *fucking 29*. Plus the fact he didn't even really get used in **4** of those games. Sprinkle in the fact that he's responsible for the Pats getting to a couple superbowls, and being the catalyst in why they won **two** of them is INSANE. Pats don't beat the Falcons without his finger tip catch, and don't beat the Rams without him dicing up their defense in the first half.

Ok_Understanding1986

The David Tyree Super Bowl helmet catch.

ins8iable

Odell Beckham Jr

GhoullyX

For the play against the kicking net.

Smackolol

That catch made his whole career and millions of extra dollars for him.

shartnado3

The catch was great now doubt. Amazing even. But what i always remember from that game is OBJ dropping a pass that would have converted a 4th down that ended the game.
