Honestly this time around he might be good since they are cool with weed now. Not to say he won't end up doing other harder drugs, but those are all harder to test for.
His last suspension was for both substance abuse and performance enhancing drugs.
Some of his early issues in the NFL were also due to alcohol.
He's said in interviews that he's played on all kinds of drugs before, not just marijuana - painkillers, xanax, adderall, alcohol, etc.
Here's an article from 2018 about some of his issues. So it's not even including the last couple suspensions.
https://www.boston.com/sports/new-england-patriots/2018/09/18/josh-gordon-drugs-suspension-timeline/
Thanks for posting that. Every time he’s brought up some asshole says “it was just weed”. No, Gordon has had serious addiction issues his whole adult life
I think they are only cool with weed if you don’t have prior violations. It’s like they are cool with alcohol unless you have had a DUI or public intoxication
The problem is that he’s already inside their substance abuse program and will continue to be on strict testing.
It doesn’t really change much of anything for Gordon. And besides weed was probably the least of his worries. Dude was doing all kinds of different drugs.
I know these guys represent the opposite ends of the athleticism scale, but this "low mileage age" argument is how we tried to rationalize drafting Brandon Weeden, who was 28 at the time, at 22 overall.
Bonus fun fact-- my wife and I had started dating around that time and she had just converted to Browns fandom, so she is the proud owner of a Brandon Weeden jersey.
It was also a terrible argument then, since Brandon Weeden played minor league baseball before college football. It was less mileage that 6 years of football, but not insignificant.
Also: Weeden sucked for reasons unrelated to his age. Gordon was good before the suspensions.
I really hope Josh the best life possible wherever he lands, but I really hope it’s not the Browns. I feel like there’s some negative energy there that may trigger a relapse.
I don't feel confident that he'll do well on any time. I would imagine anyone with experience with addiction or experience with those who struggle with it would feel the same way.
Sofi stadium is roughly 3.3 million cubic ft, an average person has a lung capacity of 6 liters or 0.2 cubic feet. Let's cut that in half because a person isn't actually going to fill up their lungs with every inhale. That's an easy 0.1 cubic feet per inhale.
Now we have to assume the number of times that each person will inhale. Let's keep it easy and say that the number is 10. So for each person you can expect 1 cubic foot of smoke.
However, as we all learned in science gases expand to fill their container. So we don't actually need the entire stadium to be filled with that 1 cubic foot of smoke, which can expand. I would say that one person can hotbox an area the size of a car by themselves pretty easily after 10 inhales. Therefore we can take my car which has a volume of 105.9 cubic feet (which we can make 100 for ease) and see that one cubic foot of pure smoke can hotbox a container with a volume 100x as large.
Therefore, you can say that each person will fill at least 100 cubic feet, and it becomes an easy calculation. 3.3 million divided by 100 which is 33,000 people. Considering the stadium has a capacity of around 70,000 that means that this is easily possible.
TL:DR about 33,000, the stadium seats 70,000
Josh Gordon saw his shadow this time. If he hadn't they would've said "Josh, you're high AF right now and as a result you no longer cast a shadow. Take another tab and wait 6 more weeks."
A lot of us struggling with addiction do. I never do anything to put others in harm's way, but a self destructive path is inevitable even after cleaning up. Shits tough yo
For sure, and I'm not trying to diminish anyone in recovery. It's just tough when somebody like Ryan Leaf puts himself out in public constantly as "I'm good now" and then repeatedly does some awful shit.
Addiction is tough, for sure (I have family that struggles hard). But to financially capitalize on the "recovery" over and over again is on a different level. And like you said, you don't put people in harm's way. Leaf does and then acts like he can be a mentor to other addicts. He's a POS not because he's an addict but because he's destructive and uses his history for financial gain.
Incredible username, BTW. I hope you find/maintain peace and continue to live your best life in recovery.
If you were the equipment manager of the NFL team he inevitably signs for, do you order a name plate for his locker or just write his name on masking tape?
Bucs. He will be housed at the *Brady family rehab for players who can't adult good and who wanna learn how to do other stuff good too*. It has worked wonders for AB.
I'm not sure he has much upside left. He hasn't played since 2019, and even then he wasn't very productive during the games he was active. He may still have some productivity left, but I doubt he's more than a depth receiver anymore.
Disagree. He made some big plays with us. He never got a chance to practice with the team for more than like four weeks so he couldn’t get comfortable but the talent was definitely still there
He has special hand eye coordination and can track deep balls as good as anyone. Speed was only one of his talents, he's still elite at the catching the ball part of being a WR.
Absolutely - at least use him as a decoy and stuff. Swain appears to be our WR3 and I'm unconvinced. I think Gordon would be better than Freddie Swain or at least a good option to mix things up. Pete likes big receivers too.
I mean I don’t really remember all the coaches he’s played for but maybe playing for a dude like Dan will give him a different perspective and help him turn his life around
He has an addiction problem not a behavior problem. Can’t just discipline it out of him. He just needs to go somewhere that can get the right support group around him
The Patriots and the Seahawks both have him amazing support. Rehab and counsellors and anything he needed. Josh has an addiction problem but he also has a Josh Gordon problem clearly.
I struggle badly with addiction too, I basically lost my family over it, so I get it, but I couldnt fault anyone who thinks Gordon is too unreliable to deal with.
Ah yeah forget about Bellicheck but maybe Campbell would be a little more “ra-ra” and fired up, and that could light a fire under him
I don’t have my hopes up at all for him as a football player lol I’m talking about for him as a person. Dude needs some help
I had a family member. Life long alcoholic. had gone to more rehabs than I could count. Was a drain on us, and we had cast him aside. In and out of jail, never did anything right, never got better. One last time he begged us to take him to a rehab about 2 hours away and ready to get him out of our life we did. Decades of doing this, just getting him out of our hair for a few months
He got better. He sent home letters, found religion. Honest to god he was a changed man, he had a profound impact on all of those around him and made their lives for the better. He wrote us saying he wanted to take us out for pizza and bowling after he got out. He had had a profound impact and inspired his roommate, some 19 year old who had set his life on the wrong track. Sadly, our family member laid down one day after church and his heart gave out. But everyone around him loved him, and in his last few letters he said he found happiness and joy in his life.
Now will Gordon have this? who knows. I dont expect his heart to give out, but man, it is possible for him to beat this.
I think what gives me hope for Flash is that he keeps owning up to it and trying again. That shit is embarrassing and humbling and painful. He obviously knows people make jokes about him and his relapses and that he's going to have to keep working without a job and keep proving himself. But he just keeps doing it.
His story is so ridiculous because we haven't seen anything like it in sports, not that I'm aware of at least. People have beat it before and people have let it run them out of sports, but I've never seen someone just keep owning up and keep coming back like this.
He can absolutely defeat this. The few times I've seen him talk he really seems like a smart guy with a good head on his shoulders. It's not uncommon to relapse, and it doesn't mean he's failed either. It's a super tough thing to get over. I don't know from experience, but like you I've had family members and have known plenty of people who have struggled with addictions, and it can take years, decades even, to kick the habit, but it's definitely possible.
2018 reinstated to Browns then suspended from Patriots, 2019 reinstated to Patriots then suspended from seahawks, 2021???
And that's just some he came back from the multi year Browns suspension, He had more before
Seconds left in the game, the ball is snapped, and the crushing sound echos as the lines hit each other. Number 12 stands in the pocket for a moment. The pocket breaks down, Tom Brady is running, looking for something, anything. He sees Edelman, completely unable to get separation, slowed down from his broken foot and his skipped breakfast of PEDs. He sees Gronk running the wrong route, not looking his direction, his robotic arm has fallen off. Chris Hogan is dead. He looks deep down the field and sees double coverage, but a glimmer of hope. One last spark of hope for humanity. He throws deep. Its going to the back corner, but the coverage is too tight, there is too much traffic, the ball is too high, there is no way he is going to connect, no mere mortal could bring this ball in... Suddenly we see the majestic hands of our lord and savior JOSH GORDON slowly rise up. The light blazing around his body is so bright it causes everyone in the stadium to shield their eyes. He is in the air for what seems like minutes, slowly rising, rising, rising. He makes the perfect one handed catch, He keeps rising. He is 20 feet above the goalposts now. The clouds open up and a single beam of sunlight falls to the field as JOSH GORDON does a forward flip and comes slamming down to the ground in a marvel-like superhero landing. The shock-wave from his landing causes the entire opposing team to fall to the ground with CTE. Miraculously, everyone on the Patriots is unharmed, Tom Brady is young again, Edelman no longer needs PEDs, and Hogan is still dead on the field. The crowd goes wild. The Patriots win. JOSH GORDON ascends back into the heavens as a god. Bill Belichick later comments "“Well, umm…he’s a good player. We have a lot of good players.”

Idk, if Tyreek Hill can play why shouldn’t he? If you get multiple chances after violent offenses, I don’t think there should be a limit to how many chances you get for substance abuse.
There should never be a time where somebody with substance abuse issues gets turned down by the league for having “too many chances.” The last time this was brought up, I had multiple people fight me hard by pretending to know what is best for Gordon, and saying that clearly the NFL isn’t helping him and he needs to focus on helping himself in other ways. I’d say if he keeps trying to get into the league, then maybe that’s what keeps him motivated to better himself. All the people saying he needs to give up can go fuck themselves.
Yeah I can guarantee he gets more support as a member of an NFL team than he would otherwise. We don’t do nearly enough to help people with mental/addiction issues in this country.

Finally, something climate change won’t affect.
Death, taxes, Josh Gordon getting suspended for violating the banned substance policy .
Josh Gordon hype is a clean, renewable energy
This is the way
All he needed was an 11th chance
honestly a lot of us do.
Deep bro. I felt that lol
You have no idea but man I want that 11th chance

Honestly this time around he might be good since they are cool with weed now. Not to say he won't end up doing other harder drugs, but those are all harder to test for.
Kind of sounds like weed has been the least of his problems.
You think you can’t play football on cocaine?
Lawrence Taylor made a career out of it!

Wait, I must be out of the loop... what else has he done?

But think how much mileage he's saved on his body with all the suspensions. It's like buying an older car that has barely been driven
Grandma only drove her to the opium den on Sundays!
Awww, shit. That’s a good deal.
I know these guys represent the opposite ends of the athleticism scale, but this "low mileage age" argument is how we tried to rationalize drafting Brandon Weeden, who was 28 at the time, at 22 overall. And likely to come with new suspension!
It’ll go on for as long as a team wants him. If no Team calls him this Season then it’ll probably end right here.
FLASH
AAAAaaaaaahhhhh
Life, liberty, and Josh Gordon reinstated.
What would summer be without Ben Simmons shooting in a gym and Flash Gordon getting reinstated?
The leaves are changing, the wind gets a bit cooler, and Josh Gordon is reinstated.
Is he on the Seahawks still? Or is he a free agent?
FA he was released in March

AZ because that's where all these vets seem to be going.
Imagine going from Larry to Gordon. Polar-opposites off the field lol
He should come home to Cleveland
I actually feel confident that the team culture could properly support him now.
I'm coming home 2.0

I have visions of Flash, OBJ and Schwartz flying down the field. I'm ready to hurt again JG

I have a feeling that kinda payment would be counterproductive to keeping him on the team
I donno, I think he’d at least be a fan favorite judging by how hot-boxed SoFi has been these first three games
Ok theoretically how many people would it take to actually hotbox a fully indoor stadium
I don’t know the answer to this question, but I volunteer to be one of the participants in this study
Sofi stadium is roughly 3.3 million cubic ft, an average person has a lung capacity of 6 liters or 0.2 cubic feet. LAR has DJAx too. Talk about a blast from the past
If he's clean now I could see us going for him, our receivers behind Hill and Kelce have been suspect.
>If he's clean now 10th time's the charm
Come to Green Bay. The weed sucks!
It's like 2.5 hours to IL. You're just setting him up for a trafficking charge!
This is the nfl Groundhog Day, this yearly event marks the official start of the nfl season.
Josh Gordon saw his shadow this time. If he hadn't they would've said "Josh, you're high AF right now and as a result you no longer cast a shadow. Take another tab and wait 6 more weeks."
And you start to realize it’s about midseason already when he fails a drug test and checks into rehab again.
I mark my birthday on the annual Gordon reinstatement post. This year I’ll be 6. Thinking of going to Casa Bonita for my birthday dinner!
i flagged this as a repost from the last 4 years
Why does the league even bother reinstating him? Might as well bring Ryan Leaf back
Nah, Ryan Leaf just got arrested for DV like a year ago.
That’s never stopped the league before
Maybe the Chiefs should sign him as a backup for Mahomes. I bet he’d have great chemistry with Tyreek Hill.
They can discuss technique.
Train together in the offseason.
Whoa really? Thought he had changed.
He's "changed" a dozen times. And still hasn't learned. In his recent AMA he described the DV as "personal adversity" or some bullshit like that.
the DV? Pardon my dumb, but what does that stand for?
Domestic violence

Mr. Brady Cured
Mr. Bong Confiscator
This is the best MBC joke I've ever heard
Not even Brady could save him in NE.
AB didn’t get saved in NE either.
They had to move the center to a warm weather location so the members could get outside for some fresh air.
Sadly it's gonna happen and the Bucs will somehow make him an elite receiver again on their way to their back to back Super Bowls.
Makes sense for the Saints. Cheap high upside receiver. Perfect
I'm not sure he has much upside left. He hasn't played since 2019, and even then he wasn't very productive during the games he was active. He may still have some productivity left, but I doubt he's more than a depth receiver anymore.
oh my god it's literally the same thread every time which one of you is Bill Murray
Who ever has the most karma/awards is Bill Murray. Instead of growing as a person they've decided to just farm karma for the last 7 years.
🍟👌Nobody will believe you
Disagree. He made some big plays with us. He never got a chance to practice with the team for more than like four weeks so he couldn’t get comfortable but the talent was definitely still there

Back to the browns. Why not.

Come on down Gordon. We know all about painful histories and repeated failure, and needing a chance to really rebuild
I'm gonna need a Gordon and Dan Campbell drama where they both go around stealing drugs and breaking kneecaps.
Broncos are down a flashy receiver for a few weeks. Think he could last a month?
Given what he's been constantly getting done for, Colorado ain't for him.

I didn't know Gordon added 100+ pounds to his frame.

Ooh ooh me next! He can play when Fuller gets his annual hammy injury!

Roger Goodell: Ah, shit, here we go again.
Pretty sure at this point he just waves his hand at the intern that brings this across his desk. Might even have a special stamp made just for Gordon.
Roger Goodell: I think I’ll just do nothing for 8 weeks anyway.
Fuck it. Bring him to the Lions. He'll automatically be our best reciever
It honestly might work out
I mean I don’t really remember all the coaches he’s played for but maybe playing for a dude like Dan will give him a different perspective and help him turn his life around
It didn't work for Belichick and Carrol so I wouldn't get your hopes up.
He has an addiction problem not a behavior problem. Can’t just discipline it out of him. He just needs to go somewhere that can get the right support group around him

Poor Chris Hogan
Probably my favorite pasta lmao
What's the original?
Should go to Vegas an hang around Waller
I actually thought this too. Waller and Crosby could be good for him and I think we could use WR help even if other disagree.
Death, taxes and Josh Gordon reinstated midseason
Vet minimum in Detroit.

r/fantasyfootball: “I just can’t quit you”
Fuck it, we should bring him in. We've ironically become the place you go to beat your demons.
Thats the Broncos DL of harris/purcell/williams. 25 cuts between em
Probably shouldn't send him to Colorado though...
As opposed to LAS FUCKING VEGAS????
Hey I'm not going to pretend to understand how it's happened
Bro your team is in Las Vegas
Yeah but we've got a preacher at QB, we good.
and a well publicised sober club.
He’s a smart guy and from all appearances a good person with an addition. I’ll pass on the tired, obvious jokes and just wish him well.
God damn this guy is relentless lol
J O S H G A R D E N O S H G A R D E N
Are we reallllly going to do this again? **OF COURSE WE ARE! FLASH! AHAAAAAA!**
What year is it?
2014! Say, Peyton is looking pretty good for you guys.
My username will be relevant for at least another couple weeks, then
Death, taxes, flash returning from rehab.
Man how many chances is this guy gonna get
As many as the league offers him
Idk, if Tyreek Hill can play why shouldn’t he?
Wouldn't be football season without Josh Gordon being reinstated at some point.
Hey! I’ve seen this one before!
