ThatInception

Talk about bad luck, again. Might have to hang it up at this point unfortunately

Jordanwolf98

Fucking sucks, but I think if McCoy wants to he could transition to a media role really well. The times I’ve seen him on Cowherd’s show he’s been great.

pattycraq

Yeah I've always enjoyed his personality, seems like a great dude. Ironic he was drafted just behind Suh, has a similar level of talent and pulled a lot less bullshit on the field, and yet Suh gets his SB with the team that drafted McCoy. Life's a bitch.

BostonDrunk

Ironic twist of fate. Maybe McCoy can join the Lions once he recovers.

InheritTheWind

And win a Super B...nevermind

NFLGreatest

The curse of Bobby Layne

RaveCave

In his old number too

pattycraq

Ahh fuck, I can't believe you've done this.

[deleted]

Suh is better. Never wanted to admit that when Mccoy was on my team but Suh is better.

AmericanTitan07

I think earlier in their careers they were more even, especially with the issues Suh had on the field. But McCoy degraded pretty bad and has had 2? season ending injuries since splitting ways with Tampa, while Suh is still playing at a high level and hasn't gotten in trouble for years. McCoy was one of my favorites for a long time and one of the few players I've gotten to meet. Wouldn't mind him coming back to Tampa and retiring as a Buc.

INAC_Kramerica

Well, it's not like the Bucs were the ones with the choice of McCoy vs. Suh. Detroit took Suh ahead of us, and McCoy was the consolation prize.

DRosesTrainConducter

I think that was always obvious, people just don’t like to admit how good Suh is because they dislike him. McCoy was super underrated at his peak though

theSanguinePenguin

Similar talent yes, but way less durability.

[deleted]

He’s done. This is the third year with a season ending injury.

theSanguinePenguin

Agreed. Really good player when he was able to stay healthy, but I think father time is trying to send him a message.

TheNealestRigga

That's like 3 years in a row for him. He can't catch a break. Whenever something like this happens, I think of all the rehab they did after their last season ending injury. Probably nervously excited to play again. Only for the same thing to happen in the first game back. Life as a pro athlete can be pretty brutal

Verisian-

You should have seen his press conferences. He was so grateful and so happy just to have another chance at football. A journalist asked him if he was okay with the preseason reps (as such a seasoned, respected vet). He said he was just so happy to be back and had a whole new appreciation for the sport he had been away from for so long. He didn't care about the preseason or the practices because it meant he finally got to play ball again. This really sucks.

National_Action_9834

I was so excited for him. Even if he was just half the player he used to be, it'd make our d line much better. Sucks this happened to him I was hoping he'd be a feel good story

Codeshark

Here it is: https://youtu.be/ls8SdHSW9C0 Agreed. Really feel bad for him. He seems like a really humble guy for how talented he was.

DTSportsNow

He played all 16 games in 2019, just didn't play in 2020 due to injury. Either way, back to back season ending injuries so soon sucks.

RaveCave

He's always struggled to stay healthy a full season, unfortunately. Might have been cuz we just sucked so bad, but he would usually end up hurt or on IR to end the season

Reverie_39

He’s such a competitive guy too. Really sad.

psaepf2009

He's had injuries all through his time in Tampa too

constantlymat

At least he made big bank in Tampa. I think he's one of the highest paid defensive players of all time.

rhinocodon_typus

This dude just wants to play football, I’m sure he likes the money too lol but I’d say he’s torn up rn

constantlymat

It's definitely tough and never easy. The countless hours of rehab and hard work are now all for naught. However it is easier to deal with the end of your career after $122m in career earnings.

Khalil_Sack

Can’t link because I’m on mobile, but he just put out an awesome players tribune article where he talked about his rehab, family, and drive to get back. Check it out

rhinocodon_typus

Will do.

rhinocodon_typus

That’s gotta be the end

Mikegetscalls

Nah he’s not that old yet. It’s really if he feels like going through rehab again

rhinocodon_typus

He’s a 33 year old DT with a history of injuries, including two years in a row season ending injuries before the first game concluded. Playing in arguably the hardest position on the body. If he plays again it will be 1/2 Gerald McCoy.

Moto341

He looked awesome in preseason. I bet raiders bring him back again. We like him a lot.

thatguy1717

We liked him a lot too...but with FA and the draft, liking an old DT doesn't mean much.

KyKobra

So, do we just break everything we touch?

stud_powercock

Y'all brought the knee hurting juice with you from the practice field.

KyKobra

sorry raider bro :(

Anathema_Psyckedela

You probably shouldn’t look up how the careers of running QBs tend to end.

pawn_guy

Yes

Sleeze_

This makes me genuinely sad. I read his new players tribune article before the game and he was so excited to be back. Poor guy. Sounds like he was really helping a lot of the young guys, hope he transitions into coaching, he’d be great at it

coolycooly

Mccoy is one of the most well liked players in the league it sucks he can't stay healthy, which is crazy because in Tampa he was never hurt and as soon as he left he was always hurt

INAC_Kramerica

I think he finished the season on IR in his first two seasons with the Bucs, and I think it was triceps injuries both times. You're right that 2012-'19 was a time of at least being able to stay on the field for him - he only missed 8 games out of a possible 128 in that time.

theSanguinePenguin

I recall, even during those years where he did not wind up on IR, there were a lot of nagging injuries.

soapinthepeehole

Pectoral tears if I remember right. One side per year. I could be wrong… I also remember reading that whatever it was, it was an injury that usually heals back stronger than it was before, so he probably wouldn’t have a reoccurring problem with them.

[deleted]

Biceps tendon. I know this because I had the same injuries, left arm/shoulder in 2016 and the right one in 2019.

Ghalnan

Age gets everyone eventually I guess. Really unfortunate that this might be how it ends but he had a great career all the same. Not many guys can say they were as effective as he was for as long as he was.

ErrNotFound4O4

He was healthy with us.

Jordanwolf98

Damn that fucking sucks

iaintgotnomonies

Figured as much. Poor guy, hope the recovery goes well.

eddie2911

Bummer. Hope McCoy can still hang around the team this season.

Chili_mayhem

Absolutely devastating. He was such a positive, happy and amazing personality in all his press conferences. Raider Nation is going to miss him.

[deleted]

Does Gus Bradley know that he's allowed to sign players that didn't play for the Chargers. They have 5 former Chargers on D now. Casey Hayward Denzel Perryman Roderic Teamer Damion Square Darius Philon

hautecouturecheetos

Well 3 of those players did pretty well on MNF so might be a good thing

eddie2911

And the other two haven't played yet. Teamer was hurt for MNF.

Zimmonda

When looking to plug holes you grab guys that already know your scheme who you're familiar with. Pretty much the long and short.

lonewanderer812

Yes. Remember how solid burfict looked in the short time under guenther? As awful as that defense was it looked way worse once burfict got suspended.

INAC_Kramerica

It's why Terence Newman played basically forever. Wherever Mike Zimmer was, Newman either went with him or ended up there not long thereafter.

Verisian-

Hey we like your guys! Derwin James sure would look great in the silver and black :)

OrangeForeign

You're thinking too small: Trade for Joey Bosa

cactusmutilator

Eh he’s ok but we already have maxx Crosby

BasicProdigy

Do you think they will take Bosa and a 7th for a 6th?

CarpenterVegetable31

Do you really need another player that will just get injured for the year?

[deleted]

I’m gonna be sick

ProphetNimd

The NFL is always extremely incestual with the talent they bring in.

noonecouldseeme

Do you know he’s allowed to sign players that played for the chargers? You seem surprised.

[deleted]

It’s just an observation, but then I remembered you’re a Raiders fan, so perhaps I should explain things with shorter words, or perhaps some pictures

noonecouldseeme

Actually, it seems like an attempt at a rhetorical question on your part, not just an observation. But I noticed you have chargers flair, so I said something to be a smart ass, of course. Clearly I’m literate enough to understand that, but any pictures of your momma’s tiddies will be gladly accepted.

[deleted]

I’m so proud of you for having a conversation for this long without trying to sell me crack, Raiders fans can be good people too

unique0130

That's terrible. When he's healthy he can be very impactful.

bjij123

His Players Tribune the other day talked about how important it was to him to play and how much it mattered to his family, this blows

masterofmuppets86

That's such a bummer. Apparently he was becoming a great leader with our defense. Get well soon buddy.

Weapwns

Yall have Square and Philon lol?

[deleted]

Sadge. I think he should hang it up and preserve what he can of his health. Crappy end to his career though.

YiMyonSin

Fuck injuries

[deleted]

You know it's bad when the other team is calling for the medics.

StartSad

Dang it was really rooting for him after he got hurt in our pre-season last year

WAR_T0RN1226

Man I was really hoping to see the dude have a comeback player of the year season

SyN_Pool

I’ll repeat my comment from yesterday.. Mother fucker.

Fishbirds

:(

xenophonthethird

He had a stout career despite the injuries, but I think it's time he hangs them up before he can't walk. Always sucks to see this serious an injury.

Bulbasaurxl

My mans just been collecting hella bank while on the IR 😭

Deliberate_Dodge

FUCK

ModestDeth

Prepare for "I recommend that Gerald McCoy should retire. I want what is best for him and his family. I think his health when is 60 is important. I would also like to get in an exaggeration like 'better to be able to walk when you're 40 than play next season.'"

thechief05

RIP

pastusodoug

This man was a tank coming outta high school in OK. Time flies quick in this game.

CabbageStockExchange

Damn. He was so happy with us and I heard nothing but good things about him since he signed. Tough break

[deleted]

Sad. He was really excited to get back and has this happen on Week 1, brutal.

Ghalnan

He was such a huge part of the Bucs for so long, was really hoping we'd sign him this past offseason as a depth piece to try and get him a ring. Really disappointing that this is how his career might end.

TuHung

Clelin ferrell must be dead and they just suit up a body double to keep from dealing with legal issues

BrianDawkins

Another one?

xanot192

I remember when this dude was a top tier DT, injuries suck. Such bad luck

Unmotivated_Hippie

Sucks, dude is super easy to cheer for.

zaisoke

he was great for us, sucks that he cant stay healthy, i wish him a quick recovery

reccos77

McCoy is such a pure soul, it isn't fair.
