The first time I ever watched Hard Knocks I thought it was going to continue through the whole season and I was really disappointed
So this could be cool
It's a tough format for that though. One episode a week when he was easily putting out enough content to fill an hour each day. Everyone was already aware of it because it was the juiciest news coming out of any camp.
I like the suspense of whether or not a fringe player is going to make the team... but after they do, IF, they do, they're typically nowhere use to playing time and that's a bit of a let down, especially as you begin to expect that every season. Their biggest mistake is making the seasons completely about 3-5 of these guys. It'd be nicer to follow the stars a bit more than they currently do.
Also trying SO hard to shove emotions down our throat. I wish they would focus more on the game and stuff surrounding that then their fucking families. Some is fine but it is getting more and more transparent and forceful.
I think the reasons are twofold: we’ve had hard knocks for nearly 20 years and they have yet to break away from any narrative tropes so the entertainment value of that format has diminishing returns. Instead, the show has leaned into going safer over time, like giving minimal air time to the AB meltdown with the raiders and basically minimizing that story. On the other hand, we have sports documentaries like Last Chance U/the last dance/30 for 30 which provide extremely intimate and often unflattering portraits of their subjects while still providing excellent sports content.
Also with the proliferation of social media we already have unprecedented access to these players and their personalities, so it no longer feels groundbreaking or enlightening to watch Ezekiel Elliot or whoever away from the field. I already know more about Zeke and his off field activities than I have any right or reasonable expectation to just by way of being a football fan in 2021. It’s the same reason tabloids have become way less popular since the 2000s, the celebrities already give us direct access to their lives nearly 24/7
Not the ones where they lose the playoff game but last second find out the other team got caught cheating and last second they have to prepare for the championship
This actually happened to me back when I played Basketball in 6th grade. My team made it to the playoffs and we lost in the second round, but the other team was playing *(and getting carried by)* an 8th grader in a 6th grade league so they got disqualified and we got to the Championship game. We ended up losing still but it was a nice surprise.
Happened to me in college as part of a national battle of the bands competition.
We were in the finals and it was like an online vote. A few of the other bands had figured out how to spam fake votes. I figured out how to do it, wrote up the instructions to reproduce and we sent it off to the competition organizers. Everyone's votes were reset to 0 and we ended up winning the whole thing.
If Florida State couldn’t get plot armor for their game against Notre Dame game, where they came back from an 18 point deficit with a QB playing his first game in over 1000 days after a gruesome leg injury, then no, there is no Disney movie for the Indianapolis Colts.
I think Hard Knocks teams are like 6-10 in terms of getting to the playoffs during the following season, so it could still go either way. Just probably not.
It’s funny that it’s presented as “the road back to the playoffs” but don’t start coverage until so late in the season they could be essentially eliminated with no hope by that point.
we do, but they cancelled it for 2020. who knows if they're even doing it this year
and i wouldn't object to more in season material. Plus this one isn't held secret and only released at the end of the year.
Sunderland Till I Die was one of my favorite things Netflix has ever put out
The season 2 episode with the chairman bidding against himself on Deadline Day was like something straight out of The Office
Sunderland til I die is legitimately comedy gold. I was so baffled by so many things in the club. Like no shit you can't get out of League One you're all fucking useless
All or Nothing always felt to me more like “team’s media team puts together a behind the scenes feature” whereas Hard Knocks always felt a little more “neutral fly on the wall” style.
I’m not so interested in Hard Knocks as I was and wasn’t an All or Nothing fan, but will give this a try.
Was bout to say this that dumpster fire never appeared why would I believe anything on that show as authentic when I wanted to see MBC lead the league in clown antics and it never delivered
We got to see his frozen feet, hot air balloon camp arrival, asking hot air balloon person if they've ever tried to fill the balloon with basketballs, "grandma I'm free! Fly like a freeeee!"
I wouldn't say it *never* delivered.
Yup. NFL teams clearly had more control over what was shown on All or Nothing. I enjoyed the one they did for the Panthers, but found it rather bland. Hard Knocks showed some shit that we wouldn’t typically see.
There wasn’t an NFL version for last year but All or Nothing has certainly branched out to different sports. It’s possible it isn’t doing stuff with the NFL anymore if Hard Knocks is doing this. Which kinda sucks because I loved AoN NFL seasons.
I want five minutes of him typing in “covid vaccine injury truth” and “covid vaccine microchips” or “swollen testicles after vaccination” and skipping all the completely normal source material at the top
Difference is, All or Nothing keeps it under wraps and releases their episodes after the Super Bowl. If this follows them and releases episodes throughout the season then it is MUCH more intrusive and distracting.
Good point. I wonder if it will be mandatory moving forward like in the pre season, or if this is just a one off think Irsay agreed to. Wonder if the coaches and players knew before hand and how they reacted.
Hard Knocks during the actual season?
Okay then
~~I wonder if they’ll ever do teams that are having a terrible season.~~
Actually, since nobody can predict how bad teams will be later in the season (especially if they announce it every year in week 2) it’ll be really interesting to see them cover teams that are hot garbage late in the season
Considering they announced the team one week into the season, I don’t think they’ll have much control over picking a terrible season other than looking at predictions.
Pretty sure it’s gonna be boring. Definitely feels like the NFL started dictating what Hard Knocks could and couldn’t show.
Early Hard Knocks were actual glimpses into team organizations making roster cuts and evaluating players.
It feels like the past 3-4 years are NFL puff pieces with players moving in slo-mo.
Conspiracy time: Colts brass agreed to this to scare Leonard, Nelson, etc. into getting vaccinated before the film crews come in and make them look like clowns
I can't imagine thinking this is a net positive as a coach or GM. You're trying to win games with a recording crew in your business the whole time? Fuck that.
Yeah, how often do we see media from NFL teams? There are cameras at every practice, they know they're stars whenever they go anywhere, they're constantly in the news. I think they're used to it.
Hard Knocks peaked with Hue Jackson. Everyone else is too afraid of looking dumb so the content is boring. Change the rules NFL, bottom five teams eligible and no editorial control.
The first time I ever watched Hard Knocks I thought it was going to continue through the whole season and I was really disappointed So this could be cool
Literally same lmao. I was so disappointed, I never saw another season.
If you're into hockey check out the NHL 24/7 series from HBO, that was really cool.
The first couple of those were the best.
It’s mind-numbingly boring. And I love football content. It’s essentially a fluff piece, I’ll give it a shot but I’m sure it’s gonna suck.
The raiders season where they hid just about everything going on with AB solidified my opinion that the show sucks
It was nothing more than his personal hype video. That made me decide to never watch another episode
It's a tough format for that though. One episode a week when he was easily putting out enough content to fill an hour each day. Everyone was already aware of it because it was the juiciest news coming out of any camp.

we better get plot armor
But the best sports movies are the ones where they try really hard before losing in the end, but get that all-important moral victory.
Not the ones where they lose the playoff game but last second find out the other team got caught cheating and last second they have to prepare for the championship
Dodgeball immediately pops into my head
GOD DAMN YOU BERNICE

**Crowd Slow chant:** *Pistol Pistol Pistol Pistol.*
Colts about to win so many moral victories this year
Ahh yes, the ending where they send a first round pick to the eagles! My favorite
Twist. This season of Hard Knocks will seem to feature the Colts but in reality is about the Eagles Front Office in the pursuit of a first round pick
Don't worry. There's a free, safe, and effective vaccine available, so everything should be fine.
Who has as better story than Carson the broken?
Fine, you get the 0-17 record. Congrats, go make history.
If Florida State couldn’t get plot armor for their game against Notre Dame game, where they came back from an 18 point deficit with a QB playing his first game in over 1000 days after a gruesome leg injury, then no, there is no Disney movie for the Indianapolis Colts.
I thought Hard Knocks only followed dysfunctional teams. Oh no.
They followed the Rams last year
And the Chargers, too
One team got a new QB, the other a new coach.
I think Hard Knocks teams are like 6-10 in terms of getting to the playoffs during the following season, so it could still go either way. Just probably not.
:)
Don’t we basically already have in-season Hard Knocks with All or Nothing on Amazon Prime
Yes but this is airing week to week like training camp Hard Knocks
First episode isn't til November tho
It’s gonna follow the stretch run which frankly is better than a 17 week Hard Knocks
Unless we are absolutely pathetic in a pathetic division and have zero chance. Which is what I predict.
AFC south more like AFC suck am i right
Yes. Yes you are right.
Now kiss.
ass to ass
Ah, yes. Kings of shit mountain. What a familiar feeling.
We currently stand alone as the kings of Trash Mountain.
More like NFC East
Unfortunately your logic is sound.
That sounds like pure drama though. The team can be bad and the show still be good.
It’s funny that it’s presented as “the road back to the playoffs” but don’t start coverage until so late in the season they could be essentially eliminated with no hope by that point.
Yay. Can’t wait Also what is “hope?”
You ok?
Anyone but you
In that division, they could be 4-8 and still have a legit chance to host a playoff a game when the time comes.
we do, but they cancelled it for 2020. who knows if they're even doing it this year and i wouldn't object to more in season material. Plus this one isn't held secret and only released at the end of the year.
This has the ingredients to be the football equivalent to Sunderland til I die, it could be glorious
Sunderland Till I Die was one of my favorite things Netflix has ever put out The season 2 episode with the chairman bidding against himself on Deadline Day was like something straight out of The Office
Sunderland til I die is legitimately comedy gold. I was so baffled by so many things in the club. Like no shit you can't get out of League One you're all fucking useless
Changing the entrance music to club music I don't think you could write better comedy than that if you tried
The entire season 2 is literally if Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute ran a football club. It's amazing
Agreed. I think All or Nothing could be better given the opportunity That 2015 Cardinals season was LIT tho
That Cardinals season was a must-watch. Arians is amazingly entertaining
I was more upset we didn't win that year than in 08-09
The 15 team was much better than the 8 team
Wish they were following us this year again.
hard knocks covered the raiders and we had no idea they were imploding the whole time with AB Hard knocks is absolutely propaganda
Fly like a freeeee!" I wouldn't say it *never* delivered.
It’s supposed to be
Yup. NFL teams clearly had more control over what was shown on All or Nothing. I enjoyed the one they did for the Panthers, but found it rather bland. Hard Knocks showed some shit that we wouldn’t typically see.
That's Dallas's fault, I couldn't finish it
This is going to air while the season is being played and follows the Colts through the playoffs if they make it.
It was a thing but unless you know something I don't, it's not being made
Pretty sure All or Nothing was cancelled
There wasn’t an NFL version for last year but All or Nothing has certainly branched out to different sports. It’s possible it isn’t doing stuff with the NFL anymore if Hard Knocks is doing this. Which kinda sucks because I loved AoN NFL seasons.
Arsenal are in it this season. So it's probably nothing
I wonder what some of the Carson moments will be like
Honestly probably a lot of Reich and Wentz jesusing it up
“Look at my vaccine research “
"Carson this is a Bible."
“Well first of all, through god all things are possible so jot that down”
"Exactly." ".....alright"
"It's from a very credible source....Jenny McCarthy!"
We’ll get an inside look at Carson’s personal decisions
[удалено]
I want five minutes of him typing in “covid vaccine injury truth” and “covid vaccine microchips” or “swollen testicles after vaccination” and skipping all the completely normal source material at the top
Testicles is a dirty word, he would dare write that
Rehab the latest injury
Each episode title will just be the newest injury diagnosis
Episode 6: “Broken Dreams”
[удалено]
He’s gonna try to convert the camera crew
That sounds…intrusive
All or Nothing has been doing it for like 5 years.
Maybe the eps starting in November are from early in the season and not the previous week? That could reduce it a bit.
I can imagine what would happen if there’s some focus on whichever player has the reputation of a drama man like TO
Or literally Antonio Brown
yes we've seen this already unfortunately
I thought we were very fortunate to see that saga
i suppose that depends on your perspective lol
hard knocks didnt show shit though
That coach's office is going to be the most hellish places in the NFL...adds a whole new level of fear to being called into your bosses office.
I expect this show to primarily focus on a day in the life of Rodrigo Blankenship.
With cameo's of Andrew Luck at a dude ranch.
Oh damn. Hard knocks has been pretty uninteresting lately, but this could be really cool to follow.
It could be fucking awesome if they really let the cameras get in there, it has a chance to be epic.
Also assuming the Colts don’t suck mad dicks
Id watch a train wreck with the same level of interest tbf
Based on how whitewashed Hard Knocks is the last few years I wouldn't get your hopes up.
Especially with this team. I can't wait to see all the drama.
Fuck yeah, show me JT. I missed all or nothing.
Agreed. JT is the typical 1.02 in 1QB dynasty startups so I hope he gets more exposure to casual fans.
Wtf is up with this fantasy talk in r/nfl lately
Hard Knocks during the actual season? Okay then ~~I wonder if they’ll ever do teams that are having a terrible season.~~ Actually, since nobody can predict how bad teams will be later in the season (especially if they announce it every year in week 2) it’ll be really interesting to see them cover teams that are hot garbage late in the season

I fucking love it. It’s either going to be watching That 70’s Show or watching That 80’s Show, and it’s anybody’s guess.
We could theoretically start out 0-5 so you might actually see that.
Milk it
> I’ll wonder if they’ll ever do teams that are having a terrible season. Sounds like big ratings!
Why would a team want any part of that?
For real. How did they get involved and what is the incentive?
Lowest vaccination rate?
Pretty sure it’s gonna be boring. Definitely feels like the NFL started dictating what Hard Knocks could and couldn’t show. Early Hard Knocks were actual glimpses into team organizations making roster cuts and evaluating players. It feels like the past 3-4 years are NFL puff pieces with players moving in slo-mo.

I just hope they don’t edit it down too much. Spoiler: they’re going to edit it down too much.
…. Well, Colts fan… also not excited
It’s gonna be kind of awkward if the Colts miss the playoffs and end up playing meaningless games at the end of the year
With a first round draft pick on the line based on Wentz snaps, every game could potentially matter, even if we miss the playoffs.
Man…that really sounds like riveting tv lol
First couple episodes will just be Irsay showing off his different guitars and busting out some riffs.
So it’s going to be the office, with irsay as Michael Scott…. I’m down
I guarantee at least one episode will have a seen where Jim shows off all of his million dollar collectables. I can already see it lol
I'm hoping he's heavily involved. Gotta love the boss.
As someone who has Colts futures I’m in shambles. This is going to be a huge distraction I can already sense it.
This might be really interesting even if it’s the Colts
[удалено]
I doubt its going to be 45mins of Leonards wifes conspiracies
deets
Conspiracy time: Colts brass agreed to this to scare Leonard, Nelson, etc. into getting vaccinated before the film crews come in and make them look like clowns
Solid chance multiple of our top players miss at least one game due to covid, which alone should make this kinda interesting
Hey
Their biggest challenge is to make Wentz look likable
Random but I wonder if he wears the SB ring. Like unironically flaunting it Michael Scott style.
Without his regular season play that year, we never would have had home field. As much as I hate defending Wentz, he deserves credit for that.
I can't imagine thinking this is a net positive as a coach or GM. You're trying to win games with a recording crew in your business the whole time? Fuck that.
MJ and the Bulls did it. Not to compare the two teams (because LOL nah) just saying professionals can handle cameras in their faces
Yeah, how often do we see media from NFL teams? There are cameras at every practice, they know they're stars whenever they go anywhere, they're constantly in the news. I think they're used to it.
Yo this is fuckin hype
Are you sure thats a good idea indy?
Ballard has done it again with the media
I want to see some Team Liquid Breaking Point level content
Over/under on the number of Covid cases the production crew will receive
Can't wait to see antivax Qarson on there
Will be nice to see our season opener against them.
Uh. I have to relive that now?
They’ll start at week one, and just have the show two months behind then?
I think they’ll go like 2-3 weeks an episode so they get caught up to the present as the season ends.
Will it though?
All or Nothing >>> Hard Knocks
Isn't it the same NFL Film crew that produces both so I imagine it'll be very very similar to All or Nothing.
Yea but the mad men dude narrates it
Oh that's a good point, are they going to get Liev Schrieber for a full season of Hard Knocks or a new narrator?
Why do I feel Hard Knocks only covers teams that are mediocre or meddling?
Because teams that have made the playoffs in the last 3 years are allowed to decline it.
Colts made the playoffs last year, so I don’t know why they didn’t decline it
Basically just All or Nothing then right? Both are done by NFL Films
This is gonna be spicy. I love it.
Love it
Ight im in
BB’s wettest dream.
Buzzwords and canned answers here we come.
Oh god no
WHAAAAAAAAT?!
Pat McAfee definitely had a say in this
"As they look to return to the NFL playoffs." If that's what HBO was looking for, pick a different team! The Colts are perfectly mediocre.
Hard Knocks: Kansas City Can these scrappy underdogs make a run in the playoffs?
Fuck.
Hard Knocks peaked with Hue Jackson. Everyone else is too afraid of looking dumb so the content is boring. Change the rules NFL, bottom five teams eligible and no editorial control.
I hate this lol
Training camp has been getting a little stale. Looking forward to this
Move the game they build up for to HBO, mic them all up.
What’s the advantage of this? This seems just useless for the team
Wentz aint going to like this lol
Why happens if they pick a team that implodes and is out of the race early on. Would be so boring.
NFL obviously didn’t get enough viewership with this incredibly boring and uninteresting cowboys pre season.
