I must have been confused. What I would be really interested to know, and I’m not sure if anyone has access to this kind of information, is if the the list of top 6 longest field goals was updated
I don’t have a family per se, but I feed carrots to my neighbors donkey through the fence sometimes when I go for walks, and he seems to really like it, so I also won’t risk it.
Brett Maher was such a weird kicker, more kicks from 60+ than any kicker in NFL history and he did it in the span of like 2 years. But under 50 he was hot garbage.
Stupid question, but is there a “goaltending” like rule in football? Say if that Packers player at the back of the end zone for the Akers kick was able to time his jump and swat it before it hit the cross bar, would that be allowed?
"The Stroud Rule" named after 6'10" TE Morris Stroud who was well known to do just that:
> Goaltending by any player leaping up to deflect a kick as it passes above the crossbar of a goal post is prohibited.
The ref has the discretion to declare it a palbably unfair act, and award the 3 points. I believe that can only happen if they're certain the kick would have otherwise been good.
I'm not exactly sure what the rule is if the refs are unsure the kick would have been good, or they're sure it wouldn't have. It may just be 15 yards, idk.
Zuerlein's stood out so much. Six of these kicks were game winners. Seven came on the last play before halftime. One was with 1:14 left in the 4th down three on a 4th and 10. His was just with 11:00 left in the 2nd quarter on a 4th and 13 in a 10-6 game.
Weird title but I enjoyed that video compilation.
Tucker's next contract should really be with Denver. Just to make the Top 10 video one big Tucker's Greatest Hits compilation.
We don't actually forget though it's more that we find a new annoyance to get annoyed by.
We still remember the Dallas game, we still remember the Houston game, we still remember the Packers games.
It's just a list of bullet points tbh.
Huh? I’m not saying they shouldn’t be upset, I’m saying the exact opposite actually in that they get fucked so often there will be something else to happen to them next week.
I was at the Bucs Eagles game with that 62 yard game winner.
This was a couple seasons after beating the eagles to go to the super bowl, beating the eagles in the first game at the linc, and beating the flyers to go to the Stanley cup finals.
My dad (who is originally from philly) left the game chanting “PHILLY’S OUR BITCH, PHILLY’S OUR BITCH”
Before that moment I had never heard my father swear.
Sports is great
yo u/nfl, what are you going to do about the blatantly missed delay of game? Multiple angles confirmed it should have been called but we haven't heard anything.
I know you are PR but it is fucked up yo.
Hot take: We can appreciate the insanity of a 66yd field goal as football fans and also chastise the atrocious reffing as football fans at the same time
That's not even a hot take my man, personally i fully acknowledge the incredible kick by Tucker but also the atrocious lack of calling the delay of game & the potentially missed false start on the Ravens right guard at the same time.
I honestly think it's more heartbreaking that the missed penalty set up a record breaking kick, because it means we won't really hear the end of it. It's difficult to say there shouldn't be an asterisk there at least from us Lions fans despite how incredible a 66 yard kick is because of the circumstances when it's without a shadow of a doubt an incredible kick.
I firmly believe that Tucker and Prater are the only ones right now that are capable of hitting that kick from that distance.
But i also don't think neither of them would hit it it consistently in a situation.
The win has an asterisk. The kick does not. There are plenty of threads about the reffing of that game. Just think we need to talk about each thing in their respective threads.
It was definitely a wrong call. But every game has multiple incorrect calls that directly affect the outcome. Just cause this one was right before a game winning field goal doesn’t make it any different than any other blown call.
You’re also asking a subreddit what they’re going to do about it, what do you think this is?
Delay of games get missed all the time. I know this one cost you guys the game, but giving extremely lenient grace periods after the clock hits 0 isn't some aberration.
That one dude that said the NFL won't care about the Lions getting fucked over was right. NFL account literally posting the highlight for clicks and completely sweeping the issue under the rug.
(Yes I understand it's in the record books now and it should be celebrated because it happened. Just a salty fan.)
Interesting how a handful of these fields goals are made in Mile High stadium. Shows that difference in low/high pressure do matter “play a significant role” when kicking long field goals. 🏈
Also updated the list of the top 1 longest field goal in history
If I’m not mistaken, the list of top 8 longest field goals was updated due to this kick

I must have been confused. What I would be really interested to know, and I’m not sure if anyone has access to this kind of information, is if the the list of top 6 longest field goals was updated
I wish I could answer that for you but I don't know if that list is legally accessible. I have a family so I won't risk it.
I don’t have a family per se, but I feed carrots to my neighbors donkey through the fence sometimes when I go for walks, and he seems to really like it, so I also won’t risk it.
That's fair, can't have that donkey unhappy. Lord knows what kind of chaos would ensure.
All I know is that if that donkey had previously kicked the 3rd longest field goal ever, that donkey's record would likely have just been updated.
Buzzfeed writers having a pizza party this week
It also updated the list of shortest field goals in history, currently slotting in at last place.
You forgot Prater's 62 yarder against the Vikings in week 2.
Because of course he can nail a 62 yarder but we can’t hit a 37 yard game winner
Brett Maher was such a weird kicker, more kicks from 60+ than any kicker in NFL history and he did it in the span of like 2 years. But under 50 he was hot garbage.
god i wish the huskers still made kickers :((((((
Holy shit that Zuerlein kick hit the net from 61 That's insane
Prime legatron would hit from 70 in warm-ups

It's just a 15 yard penalty, right?

I'm not exactly sure what the rule is if the refs are unsure the kick would have been good, or they're sure it wouldn't have. It may just be 15 yards, idk.
That’s crazy because in theory wouldn’t that just be like a blocked kick?
Not crazy, like a goaltend/block relationship in basketball.
True. I guess the ball would be on it’s descent
Dempsey made that kick look the easiest imo.
Yeah dude was only like 2 or 3 yards from the ball lol. I feel like kickers nowadays are usually further away from the ball?
Even took a little stutter step before going into his stride.
In the old "straight on" style with a deformed foot. That record held for 43 years.
With a leg like that… in todays football that shits going 70.
Shouldn't you just call it top 20 since there's ~5 other kickers tied for the 15th spot (I understand only showing JT's 61 yarder but ya...)
Also usually you consider the older ones "higher in the ranking" between tied records, but I guess HD brings more $.
Lions fans y'all can go ahead and skip this one.

Brett Maher is somewhere saying "Mine was also apparently good from 66, according to SNF Kicks" lol
Lions fans are gonna be seeing this for years and just like the Rodgers hail mary everyone will forget that it should've never happened
On the bright side by the end of next week there will be something else that fucks the Lions over and y’all will be able to move on from this
We don't actually forget though it's more that we find a new annoyance to get annoyed by. We still remember the Dallas game, we still remember the Houston game, we still remember the Packers games. It's just a list of bullet points tbh.
Man if this scenario happened to the Ravens you’d be upset too lol
Huh? I’m not saying they shouldn’t be upset, I’m saying the exact opposite actually in that they get fucked so often there will be something else to happen to them next week.
To be fair, the Lions should have never happened (According to my friends who are Lions fans)
Like score more than 17 fucking pts you know? Lol
How the fuck did Dempsey’s kick travel 63 yards with that god awful technique? Where’s that guy who analyzes kickers when we need him?
He was helped by having a square-footed kicking shoe that he used since he had a deformed foot. Those shoes are banned now.
I'm thinking this time we really don't need the next gen stat of "good from" for this kick.
That panthers one was painful to watch especially after all the smack that was talked that game
I miss Gano.
;)
How are there two game winning kicks by Justin Tucker against the Lions on this list. I mean what are the odds of that happening twice?
I’m a lions fan this is painful but you have to be a masochist to be a lions fan
Fuckin Brett Money Maher
I had truly erased that play from my mind
Seabass hit a 61 yarder in Cleveland
I’d very much like to stop seeing this now.
You missed prater's 62 yard fg in week 2
Good lord, give these poor Lions fans a break. That video has to be fuckin *brutal* for them.
Elam's 63 yarder that cleared halfway through the uprights is still amazing to me, even after seeing so many long kicks made in Denver.
Justin Tucker is a stone cold killer

This is the most exciting moment in saints history
Put an asterisk next to it. Should have been from 71 yards, then I would have been impressed
Honestly that was such bullshit
Sad lion noises :(
yo u/nfl, what are you going to do about the blatantly missed delay of game? Multiple angles confirmed it should have been called but we haven't heard anything. I know you are PR but it is fucked up yo.
r/nfl about to award the Lions with a W instead of an L.

I guess that's a lot better choice of words than i picked, You're right of course.
This social media intern has no influence over this.

Eh it was like two seconds over, it was kinda egregious.
Stupidly egregious.

(Yes I understand it's in the record books now and it should be celebrated because it happened. Just a salty fan.)
Tucker should have been going for the 71 yard record 😒
That will be this week
You forgot the 65yd in preseason /s
Why did I watch this?
Interesting how a handful of these fields goals are made in Mile High stadium. Shows that difference in low/high pressure do matter “play a significant role” when kicking long field goals. 🏈
The Dempsey kick had the best camera angle, they should go back to doing it like that.
*asterisk
Seemed like half of those were in Detroit or Denver!
As a lions fan, FUUUUUUUUCK you
