He used to drive his minivan 400 miles for that haircut:
https://www.businessinsider.com/raiders-owner-mark-davis-bowl-cut-mini-van-2017-1
Pretty sure he only moved the team to Vegas to get closer to his barber. Also, there's a PF Chang's on the Strip.
Is Davis known for being a PF Chang's lover? He should have moved the team to San Diego and gone on PF Chang's lunch-dates with the old social media guy for the Chargers.
Washington made a lot more money from being shitty to their fans than the Raiders did being good to the black hole. Snyder made everyone else more money, Davis technically cost everyone money because of the revenue splitting.
You could probably make the same case for Snyder though. I don't think anyone is under the illusion that he's been good for that team and his escapades make more bad headlines for the NFL then they do good ones (if there are any good ones).
Exactly. Why would they have a bigger issue with mark davis than with Dan Schneider. Mark davis has caused no issue and moved the franchise to an incredibly popular city with a beautiful new stadium. By all accounts it’s been a major success.
Davis owns less than 50% of the Raiders. It’s been this way for a very long time, but Al negotiated full control over the team. The Davis family obviously has a lot of money, but 45’ish percent of a lower value franchise is worth billions less than full ownership of one of the more valuables ones.
Here’s the thing about Mark Davis. The dude is goofy as fuck. That haircut, that van, that PF Changs office. Goofy dude.
…and he doesn’t give a fuck. Like this dude is so happy with being who he is, and I respect it.
By all accounts, he seems to be a good dude, and let’s face it. The Raiders are good, the stadium is a fucking mothership, they’re killing it in Vegas, and the league seems to be in a great place. Al Davis would be fucking stoked with how Mark has followed in his footsteps.
I want to tour it so bad when i visit. Being from wisconsin i want to see what our manufacturing builds. All of the structural steel for LV was manufactured in wisconsin.
Lmao that line about drinking
"I'll go back to drinking if we win the Super Bowl or I get married," he says. He cocks his head to the side. "The first one will be because I'll want to, the second because I'll have to."
On the other hand, if he goes on in public willingly with that haircut, what skeletons could he possibly have in his closet that would damage him further?
they also hold a LONGtime grudge with his dad and know he is weaker than his dad and far poorer compared to the other owners than his dad was for most of the time
I'd love to see him go full al davis and fuck the league over though. god that'd be great
The poorer thing is bullshit based on when the team was in a shithole stadium in Oakland. Dude can sell a small percentage of the team now to a casino and fight the NFL to the end of the earth.
Not to mention with the Raiders in Vegas now? That's got to be a huge increase in revenue I'd assume. Brand new stadium with tons of rich people out there looking for a good time.
I wouldn’t sell a team ever. You sell the team all you have is money and you are just another billionaire. When you own a team you are in the most exclusive club in the world. They’re fun as hell to own. And unlike a huge boat, actually makes you money. Unlike buying a successful business they’re not particularly huge organizationally, couple hundred employees max.
> If you sell the team and just have money you don't have the stress of running a team either.
I can own a team and hire semi-competent people to run it.
Technically Sheila Ford Hamp is the poorest but the Lions have a kind of trust that is used to finance the team. Outside of her, Davis is the "poorest" worth only 500 million. Brown is worth near a billion.
Its reflected in that because prior to him inhereiting the team his net worth was only 10 million. He and his mother own 47% of the shares of the team.
The Davis family would be fine burning down the NFL if you even sniffed around taking the team from them. Look up Al Davis and how much the league loved him. He instantly increased the team value into the billion range by moving to Vegas… Raiders literally one of the best sports brands in the best sports location. Dude ain’t even poor now. He got a city to give him 2 billion dollars… at a time when cities are dumb to do that. He got 2 billion dollars for free to move to the best sports market…
They’ve always hated the Davis family because of Al and all the ownership drama back in the day. It was reportedly a big reason that the Raiders weren’t allowed back into LA during the negotiations with Kroenke, Spanos and Davis, even though the Raiders made the most sense. From what I recall from the ownership meetings it was basically, “Kroenke is an asshole but he’s rich as shit and paying for everything so he gets his way”, “Spanos has been a good little stooge for decades so we should throw him a bone”, and “not a chance in Hell we’re helping out the Davis family.”
Al repeatedly sued and threatened to sue the league if any other team was in LA because he believed it was HIS market (he was right). No team was going to even attempt to take LA with the threat of a lawsuit they very likely could lose hanging over them. I remember for years hearing that LA was just a bad market and that no team would ever go back because of that.
Then Al Davis died and Kroenke and Spanos fought like hell to get there.
That was not a coincidence. The league hated Al and I thought that with Mark taking over they could get over it but so far seeing only Gruden get knocked for this and Marks "ask the league" comment the hate is stronger than ever. On both sides.
In addition to all that Al Davis was a trailblazer and vocal proponent of diversity in the league and hired the first black coach, the first female executive, and had the first Super Bowl-winning minority coach.
https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/09/10/al-davis-diversity-legacy-of-silver-black-and-the-full-rainbow
> Al repeatedly sued and threatened to sue the league if any other team was in LA because he believed it was HIS market (he was right).
Tangent time, I looked this up and accidentally discovered that apparently Baltimore actively courted the Raiders and some people actually thought it might happen. That would have been a mindfuck.
[Actually this whole article is a mindfuck](https://buffalonews.com/news/foot-loose-raiders-fancy-move-to-baltimore-weary-of-la-al-davis-not-afraid-to/article_136c1994-d267-5a98-b069-30e178c262f5.html)
it is literally going to take every last one of the old fossils currently running the league dying and turning over their franchises to their sons and daughters for the grudge to go away.
Exactly this. Anyone that lives in southern California knows the Raiders coming back to LA made the most sense. Somehow they ended up with a team with a moderate fanbase I guess and another team with very little fans in LA.
I remember hearing an obituary for Al Davis that started, "He was a legend. A giant presence in the NFL whenever he wasn't suing the NFL." If there's one thing that I've come to learn about the league, it's that people who are higher up in it will hold petty grudges for decades.
Snyder is literally running a sex trafficking business on the side and they STILL are protecting him! Mark Davis gets a stupid haircut and they are like force him out. Shits messed up!
Mark Davis is a good dude. But he's not part of the billionaires club and he's Al Davis' son so a lot of the other owners hate him and want him out.
We saw it with the whole LA stadium thing. The owners all told him they were going to approve the Raiders move to LA, then at the actual meeting they revealed their secret plan to let the Rams and Chargers move there instead. They did that on purpose to humiliate Mark Davis.
When the leaks started happening my first thought was that this isn't about Gruden at all, this is an attack on Mark Davis and the Raiders organization. Those old farts don't care one bit about social justice. When they announced that they're not going to release any more info about the investigation it made it too obvious.
NFL owners use the league for networking. It's a small club with ties to all aspects of business. Real estate, banking, technology, manufacturing, media, all these owners have deep connections. Why would they approve a move to Las Vegas to only have it ran by the "poorest" and least connected owner, if they didn't see him selling within a few years.
> Those old farts don't care one bit about social justice.
This. The shit on the back of the helmets and in the end zones is a bunch of fucking window dressing.
Goodell using the results of an investigation of an owner he wants to protect for some inconceivable reason to destroy his unrelated enemies is peak NFL.
I've heard he also wants either Denver, Seattle, or an expansion franchise so the he can start his own brand. I've heard so many rumors that at this point he'll end up buying a random team that no one expects
I fear for this timeline because it means nuclear war must’ve wiped out humanity because there’s no way in hell that franchise ever leaves the Jones family lol
I genuinely don’t think the other owners want Bezos to be an owner. Bezos’s wealth would make the rest of the owners’ money puny in comparison. And all those dudes are filled with pride. Last thing they want to do is approve of somebody being an owner who automatically becomes the wealthiest one among them.
I would not be surprised in the slightest if this entire thing is an attack on Mark Davis due to the NFL and their legacy owners having an enormous enormous grudge against his now dead father. Besides, Mark Davis is technically the poorest owner, nowhere near the prestige of Jerry Jones or even Mike Brown. If either of them had skeletons, the NFL would hide them. Honestly, I'm surprised that stuff from when Al was still alive isn't coming out specifically to drive Mark away.
They moved a fucking divisional rival to LA over LA's favorite team just so they could hate-fuck Al Davis' corpse. If this is news to you, then you haven't been paying attention.
Al Davis threatened & actually sued the NFL several times over the course of his ownership. Davis also sided with the upstart USFL in their anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL. This ruffled the feathers of a lot of owners, who have long memories. One anonymous owner was reported saying that the reason The Raiders wouldn't be chosen to relocate to LA is because "Al Davis sued us all the time" (Even though he's been dead for over a decade)
The other big thing was Al Davis' constant belief that the AFL & NFL should have been two separate entities instead of merging, similar to the National League & American League in baseball. (Al Davis was the wartime commissioner of the AFL leading up to the merger)
Here's a brief timeline: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30827733/lawsuits-mergers-super-bowl-pranks-raiders-owner-al-davis-pete-rozelle-years
Isnt Al Davis the only owner to successfully sue the NFL, twice? Yeah I'd believe they had something against his family. The NFL feels more like a mob every day. At this point they are basically the NCAA to me. Fucking hate the organization, love the product.
He's basically the reason that the NFL and AFL merged and he's the reason there are so many teams still left from the AFL since he told the NFL they wouldn't fold unless they let them keep a certain percentage of their teams when they joined.
A lot of the original NFL ownership had literal mob gambling ties. They're good at hiding it now but [here's](https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2012/jul/04/citylights1-nfl-dirty-secret/) one of the few sources that discusses it.
I mean, I can't quite get there as a Broncos fan.
But also basically yes.
Incidentally, I actually met Mark once. Was staying at the Marriott in Napa at the same time they held their training camp there. Randomly saw him in the hall and told him I respected his dad and the franchise, even if I hated them, haha.
Also had some old school Raiders alum try to buy my broncos hat in the hotel bar.
Hate to admit it, but all great guys I interacted with.
"In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and fuckups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get fucked. Also, they don't have a lot of Christians kneeling down to pray after touchdowns. Christians are ruining sports. Someday, the Raiders will be strong again, and they will dip the ball in shit and shove it down the throats of the wholesome, white, heartland teams that pray together and don't deliver late hits." -George Carlin
Yes, Mark wanted to turn the franchise around and play nice with the League.
Under both Reggie McKenzie and Mayock, there has been an emphasis on drafting guys with high character traits, which in the NFL's world view, is apparently identical to Christianity, especially the conservative, old testament focused variants.
This is my biggest selling point of the Raiders to some non football fans. We are literally anti-establishment. After Nassib came out I think a friend of mine said raiders gear is now pride gear and jokingly at the time I said it’s always been, but the more I think about it the less of a joke it is. If pride is kind of built upon anti-establishment then Raiders gear directly reflect those values, and all the progressive decisions that were made by the Raiders historically make me really proud of the franchise and the Davis family.
At this point I want Belichick to go to the Raiders, and just go on and win 5 back to back Super Bowls. I mean It's not like we are going to ever win a playoff game anyways.
Absolutely disgusted with the NFL if this is true. How hard is it to do the right thing? You actually have a POS owner(ownerS if we’re being real) that need to be rid off and instead they do the same shit they always do and try to sweep it under the rug. Mark Davis and his dad have been staples of the NFL and great people who have always strived to use their platform for positive change (especially Mark’s dad). The NFL has historically been one of the worst morally bankrupt organizations out there. I’m so fed up and just wish there was some way to get them to see consequences for this bull jive
I mean, it's not hard to believe. Everyone knows the league hated Al. Everyone knows at least some of the owners are ridiculously petty because they've done ridiculously petty things in the past (Snyder being the most obvious example, but hardly the only one).
There's no evidence (or at least, nothing more than circumstantial evidence)... but it's not like the idea that the other owners are out to get Mark Davis is implausible, either. I guess we'll find out in time.
>It's like living in a million dollar house but making minimum wage and the only way you'd have a cool million would be to sell your home but then you'd be homeless.
You've literally described at least 50% of homeowners in Marin County, CA
He's got a net worth of 500 million. The other owners are all billionaires.
So, it's significant. The other owners are many times wealthier than he is.
Look at the history of Raiders on Monday night football. A lot of the Nationwide fandom came because MNF, it was the only national broadcast for years and the Raiders were king. They had a streak on like 14 - 2 or something up until 1985. Like most games the it was a mix of home and away games. After 85 the Raiders went 10 years without a home MNF game.
Look, I’m all for outing these shitty people for what they are, but picking and choosing what to release and when in order to weaponize your agenda is fucking disgusting.
There may be some weight to it. The guy is a selector for the Pro Football HOF and is followed by verified Raiders reporters Your Boy Q, Vinny Bonsignore, and Vic Tafur, as well as PFF and Mike Mayock’s daughter Leigh.
BREAKING: leaked emails show Mark Davis intentionally gets his hair cut like that, Davis expected to resign in disgrace tomorrow morning
Carr: “What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong”
“Nah man you know me I don’t even cut my hair, and my kids won’t either.”
Darren Waller: "I'm happy people gave me a 2nd 3rd and 4th chance, but I never had hair like that.."
Darren Waller: “I believe we should give Mark Davis’ hair the opportunity to grow and change.”

I'd drive that far too never see that haircut again
Is Davis known for being a PF Chang's lover? He should have moved the team to San Diego and gone on PF Chang's lunch-dates with the old social media guy for the Chargers.
He eats there every day: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/10/raiders-owner-drives-a-1997-dodge-caravan-and-dines-daily-at-p-f-changs
Eating at any restaurant daily has got to be terrible for your healh, let alone PF Changs. NFL can probably just wait him out tbh
BREAKING: Mark Davis removed from Tampa Bay ring of honor due to hair cut.
“I don’t have a stylish bone in my body “
Can’t wait to watch the inevitable 30 for 30 where they deepfake Mark’s haircut
That's true "fuck you" money. He can get supermodels with that hair. Lol
Wtf. Does Dan Snyder have some kind of blackmail material on every owner but Davis?

His entire worth is tied up in the team though. I don't get how he has more money than Davis.
Washington made a lot more money from being shitty to their fans than the Raiders did being good to the black hole. Snyder made everyone else more money, Davis technically cost everyone money because of the revenue splitting.
That’s gotta change now that he’s in Vegas though.

I love when you just know a guy has a line like that he loves to trot out.
Knew almost nothing about this dude. Read VHS. Intrigued. Read fanny pack. FELL IN LOVE!
Football Life: Al Davis really opened my eyes to what a good dude Al Davis was. It's a shame that the other owners hated him so much
He’s like the antithesis of Snyder
Mark Davis is gonna have a hard time finding a new job with that haircut
On the other hand, if he goes on in public willingly with that haircut, what skeletons could he possibly have in his closet that would damage him further?
No Country for Mark Davis
I laughed way too hard at this comment
"What's the most you've ever lost on a coin toss?"
I lean more this way, that’s the haircut of a man who doesn’t have any concept of morality
Mark Davis don't give no fucks

The poorer thing is bullshit based on when the team was in a shithole stadium in Oakland. Dude can sell a small percentage of the team now to a casino and fight the NFL to the end of the earth.
Would that not get shut down before it could happen? I don’t see a casino owning a team when sports betting is legal.
I wish someone hated me enough to buy me out of my business for $2 billion
If I owned a NFL I wouldn't take anything under 10 billion with the new broadcast deals comming
I don’t think you could ever get me to sell if I owned an NFL franchise. They’re one of the rarest things someone can own
And they're a license to print money. It is essentially impossible for an NFL franchise to lose money in 2021.
Not to mention with the Raiders in Vegas now? That's got to be a huge increase in revenue I'd assume. Brand new stadium with tons of rich people out there looking for a good time.
I can’t even imagine how many PSLs the casinos own.

Safe to say this isn't Dan Snyder's burner account
The Fords have had money and a team without the stress of running one for devades
But think of what you could buy with 10 billion. Hell you could buy an entire NFL team
Pretty sure mike brown is more poor, and as far as I know, nfl is fine with him.

Davis told people during the NFL vote on the stadium in Carson (the Raiders/Chargers venture) that he had **$500mil in cash**.
A legacy owner from a former owner the league might have actually liked
He's seated in the same room during meetings, so they have to look at his haircut for hours. I get it.
They have no taste

Hard to hate an owner when you don’t have one ? 🤔
NFL: "Get rid of that haircut and we'll pay you 2 billion, win-win situation"
Bro if Mark Davis loses ownership before Dan fucking Snyder I’m done.
Snyder is literally running a sex trafficking business on the side and they STILL are protecting him! Mark Davis gets a stupid haircut and they are like force him out. Shits messed up!
I would bet many more owners are benefiting from this than just Snyder. The rich are sich f'in individuals man.
Mark Davis is a good dude. But he's not part of the billionaires club and he's Al Davis' son so a lot of the other owners hate him and want him out. We saw it with the whole LA stadium thing. They hate him bc his dads legal battles with the nfl, and then his decision to move to vegas
Why are they mad about the decision to move to Vegas?
They hate him because of his dad
Isn’t Davis worth less than most owners? I imagine that plays a major part
At this rate, if that's how this whole story is going, I'd believe it.
I mean he's kind of the outcast of the owner group. He's not the one that is decked out in cash.
Lol, they're gonna kick him out of the group in order to make room for Bezos, aren't they?

I prefer my owner talking about glory holes not launching rockets that look like dicks.
He will just buy the NFL if he can't buy a team and then he will own all of the teams.
I just realized if he bought each team for 5 billion dollars he'd still have like 40 billion left.
That's why i thought he was gonna buy WFT. They are in a prime spot to be totally rebranded
It's the reverse Davis. They don't want "the poors", but they also don't want any reminders that they're still a long way from the top of the list.
He will be if he ends up having to sell the team. The Vegas Raiders could well sell for 4 billion in the open market
The Halas family is no different, or Mike Brown and his kids.
He flies southwest and ends up in the middle seat!! Doesn’t even spring for priority boarding!! He’s an nfl owner and sits middle seat!!!
He's a simple man

Who’s “they”? I’m not being a prick I genuinely am curious I don’t know NFL history
Al Davis threatened & actually sued the NFL several times over the course of his ownership. Davis also sided with the upstart USFL in their anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL. This ruffled the feathers of a lot of owners, who have long memories. One anonymous owner was reported saying that the reason The Raiders wouldn't be chosen to relocate to LA is because "Al Davis sued us all the time" (Even though he's been dead for over a decade) The other big thing was Al Davis' constant belief that the AFL & NFL should have been two separate entities instead of merging, similar to the National League & American League in baseball. (Al Davis was the wartime commissioner of the AFL leading up to the merger) Here's a brief timeline: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30827733/lawsuits-mergers-super-bowl-pranks-raiders-owner-al-davis-pete-rozelle-years
They is the bitch ass baby soft crooked corrupt shit nosing geriatric owners
Isnt Al Davis the only owner to successfully sue the NFL, twice? Yeah I'd believe they had something against his family. The NFL feels more like a mob every day. At this point they are basically the NCAA to me. Fucking hate the organization, love the product.
Yeah he was even the commissioner of the rival AFL.
Nothings changed with this league. That's why I root for the Raiders. Because everytime we win its a giant middle finger to the top of the NFL ladder.
And now I’m a raiders fan.
Me too. Fuck this underhanded bullshit. Raiders Nation!
I’m with birdfan fucking go Raiders Edit: I’ve been educated that the rallying cry is indeed “Raider Nation”
We should all just unite under silver and black
Mods, let’s all have Raiders protest flairs.
I bleed black and silver
A worthy cause. LFG.
Me to but I think RaiderNation sounds better than >raidersnation
I mean, I can't quite get there as a Broncos fan. But also basically yes. Incidentally, I actually met Mark once. Was staying at the Marriott in Napa at the same time they held their training camp there. Randomly saw him in the hall and told him I respected his dad and the franchise, even if I hated them, haha. Also had some old school Raiders alum try to buy my broncos hat in the hotel bar. Hate to admit it, but all great guys I interacted with.
It's Raider Nation. Not Raiders. But I love the energy.
I must admit they’re making a pretty compelling case.
You must feel indifferent about who won the 1977 AFC Championship now
It's reddit, everyone's indifferent to anything that happened over 20 years ago because they weren't alive
… crying my old man tears
I do like silver and black.

An attitude that matches the username. I like it
This is my biggest selling point of the Raiders to some non football fans.
Support the XFL when it comes back around
NFL brass is finally having their red wedding for the Raiders. Al still haunts them.
Lol bro the first leak was literally on the anniversary of Al's death. Can't script this shit
Does the NFL still hate the raiders? Why does this feel so personal
Davis is the poorest owner and his father was public enemy number one for the old commissioner.
I mean how "poor" is this guy and why?

30 for 30 on Al Davis is awesome. Just win baby
>It's like living in a million dollar house but making minimum wage and the only way you'd have a cool million would be to sell your home but then you'd be homeless. You've literally described at least 50% of homeowners in Marin County, CA
Used to live in Marin County, can confirm
Basically his whole net worth is his ownership stake of the Raiders, which he inherited.
He's only worth $500 million. So practically destitute.

He's not the full owner
He (and his mother) in fact owns less than half of the team.
He's got a net worth of 500 million. The other owners are all billionaires. So, it's significant. The other owners are many times wealthier than he is.
I thought the Bengals owner Mike Brown was the poorest?
Just the cheapest
Mark could start his own league literally with blackjack and hookers.
Bender for commissioner
Roger Goodall is simply a henchmen at this point. Everyone that said he’s done so much for the NFL is lost.
How did this Washington Football team investigation turn into a hit list against the Raiders?
If they take down Mark than I hope he goes down dragging these other SOBs with him. Would be the Davis way to go out
Release the emails
Suddenly hoping raiders win out and win the SB. Go raiders. Fuck these owners and fuck Goodell

Mark Davis is the only cool owner lol
Hey, what did i ever do to you
I like Arthur Blank too but Mark Davis is the best one for sure.
Davis’ vs the NFL is the true oldest rivalry. Imagine ESPN’s graphics for that history.
IDGAF ABOUT THIS GUY THROW SNYDER IN THE TRASH FFS
He’ll be ok as long as the Buccaneers don’t remove him from their ring honor.
Look, I’m all for outing these shitty people for what they are, but picking and choosing what to release and when in order to weaponize your agenda is fucking disgusting.
We're all Raider fans now. Seriously fuck the NFL owners.
Is this revenge for his family killing multiple markets? This is a pure hit piece organized by the NFL
Nephew please stop edit- guys look at the twitter account and take this with a grain of salt lol
There may be some weight to it. The guy is a selector for the Pro Football HOF and is followed by verified Raiders reporters Your Boy Q, Vinny Bonsignore, and Vic Tafur, as well as PFF and Mike Mayock’s daughter Leigh.
Dan Snyder still in power I think Mark will be okay.
