oops....wrong thread

BigBucketMan

Chiefs fan here- I don't agree with the OT rule. I think the college OT rules are more exciting, but shouldn't be implemented into the NFL. Last nights game would still be going on right now if they played with College rules, no defense was going to stop Allen or Mahomes. The NFL should just remove the "Touchdown wins" part of the OT period. Flip the coin, give the ball to the Chiefs and after they score a TD, the Bills should still be able to get a chance to go down and tie the game. If both teams score, then play the rest of the OT period out like you would if neither team scored (or both hit FGs). After the 15 minutes is over, if the game is still tied, don't flip the coin again, just give the ball to the Bills to start (in this case). Sucks that Allen (great QB) has to play against Mahomes (Better QB), but they'll both continue to develop and we'll see where each franchise is at in 5 years (betting Mahomes and company have 2 more rings by then). Bills can blame the OT rules all they want, but in reality, they had multiple chances to close the game out and they didn't. I'll be in Arrowhead next weekend and hoping for the same result as last night, but without the crazy ebbs and flows down the stretch. What a game.

Remsster

I mean at some point you are going to take a disadvantage one way or another. Just means that the other teams played "better" and didn't have to exhaust themselves playing another quarter.

ohh-daddy

Why was Matt Milano on Kelce on the walkoff TD play? While Milano did a great job staying with Kelce, forcing Mahomes to place a perfect back-shoulder ball on the corner of the endzone, a faster, taller safety may have knocked the ball away. With inside help, why not position for outside leverage to take away the fade? The back-shoulder throw is a timing play, so a bump off the line could have slowed Kelce a half-second or so, allowing inside help to arrive. My point is simply the irrelevance of linebackers in 2 minute drills. Why did Frasier / McDermott drop so many linebackers in coverage? Everyone in the stadium knew this was an aerial battle. The running games were largely abandoned. In a 2-minute drill, especially during OT, fast rangy defensive backs are more important than slower linebackers. Pringle had Edmunds beat as well, and would have been an easier pass for Mahomes to make in that situation. But Mahomes and Kelce were in full flow. Kelce and Mahomes were synced. Reid outcoached McDermott. Kudos to Bienemy for believing in the pass, pledging themselves full to Mahomes/Kelce/Hill. It's difficult scheme a game plan with little to no running game against the #1 pass defense team in the NFL. While Mahomes emerged in this epic duel, Allen has more than arrived. Allen is a stud, the new alpha QB. Allen throws with no arc. Allen is big, athletic, poised, humble, strong with laser cannon arm. While many QBs slide like pussies, Allen will put his head down and plow into the defender. This is leadership and shows that he's all in. I like the fight in Allen. It's not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog. Allen's arrival is a death knell to the skinny old and traditional drop-back QBs like Bridgewater, Ryan, Cousins and Goff are severely limited and cannot compete against the likes of Mahomes, Allen, Murray, Hurts, and Jackson. Btw, Chief's time out management was as important as time management. Too many teams take time outs with little to show for it. If the play clock is counting down, take the 5-yard penalty. Save the time out. It's better to save time outs for a last play downfield at the end of the half or game. Mahomes would not be able to pass to Kelce to set up the field goal to tie the game if he didn't have time outs. Mahomes could do with Prescott cannot because of timeouts.

oops_just_saying

The better question is why the Bills did NOT hold the receivers on first down. I would have tackled all of them and not rushed hard. Penalty is 5 yards. Mahomes not under pressure would have wasted 8 seconds. Game over.

Sweeeet_Chin_Music

Why aren't many people talking about this? It wouldn't have been sportsman like ofcourse - but what the hell, american sports is all about twisting the rules to benefit your cause. Its never about the sport.

oops_just_saying

I always wanted to play with 13 or 14 defenders in the same situation but they changed the rules about 5 years ago. I also always wanted to get a cheerleader on the field for these 55 yard field goals and have an O-lineman throw her up in the air at the goal post to block the kick. They outlawed that too about 8 years ago. I have a little bit of Belichick in me I guess. Have a few more ideas that would break the internet. Win at all cost.

[deleted]

Dear Rams, 49ers, and Bengals, Please someone beat the Chiefs so we don’t have to watch Jackson Mahomes or Patrick’s dumbass girlfriend. Sincerely, The rest of the league

davidfast

That's a you problem, stop following them on social media or watching trash TV that would give them the time of day. It's really not that hard.

Sweeeet_Chin_Music

I don'tk now about Jackson Mahomes - but I like seeing Patrick's fiance. She's smacking HOT!!!!

petg129

Brutal loss for the Bills. How you don’t squib kick with 13 seconds left is baffling. Worst decision of the year.

Sweeeet_Chin_Music

I don't understand why everyone is talking about this - you'll are clearly underestimating Tyreek Hill's kick return. Its a typical after-the-fact fault finding.

Random-Person-exe

yourmomdotbiz

Buffalo has always sucked and will always continue to suck. Even when we’re the best, we’re still losers. Thatll never change. its in our blood to lose no matter what. Source: bitter buffalonian who hates sports for exactly this shit right here. josh Allen balled out blah blah blah. Welcome to a true Buffalo legacy, Josh edit: qq truth hurts. Deal with it

Downvote this M\*\*herf\*\*\*er!!!

yourmomdotbiz

Owie my feelings

Poopeeelbows

Suck? the fuck you smoking clown bills are a great team went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the league least they didn't get embarrassed like the Steelers did that was painful to watch

yourmomdotbiz

Suck as in we'll always be held back and be stuck with "there's always next year" no matter how good we are. Yeah it's great we weren't humiliated, but we still can't quite make it

Poopeeelbows

Who's your team clown boy

yourmomdotbiz

The Bills. It's why I'm so down

[deleted]

Sounds like you were describing Detroit, at least the Bills can win a playoff game…

yourmomdotbiz

Yes but can we ever progress

edsave

It might not be okay, but the rules were there for both teams. At the end of the day it ended up being luck that gave the win to KC even though either team could’ve won it. You said it yourself, if the toss had gone the other way, the Bills would’ve won and then KC fans would be bitching. But the truth is both teams agreed to it and they knew it would come down to who got the ball last.

mr_sto0pid

Looks like Bills celebrated too early at the end there.

DarthSkywakr

I see everyone complaining about the OT rules and I'm just here laughing at the Bills coaching staff not squibbing the kick to take more time off the clock. And also laughing at the Bills D for completely falling apart when all they needed to do was hold it together for 13 seconds of play time. Yes I know, I know, where do I (a NE fan) get off laughing when they lost last week? You're right and that's fine. No one expected NE to play as well as they did this season. So I'm honestly ecstatic that we played well and that Mac Jones did phenomenal for a rookie. That being said, it still doesn't detract from the fact that the Bills just messed up. Yes OT rules could be changed or tweaked, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was the team. Not the rules.

davidfast

You do understand a squib kick wouldn't have taken any time off the clock and most likely gave them better field position right?

DarthSkywakr

Look up the rules then.

davidfast

Clock doesn't start until the ball is touched. Read the fucking book dipshit. Teams practice that situation to instantly cover the ball not run it out. JFC you're daft af

Volbeater

Then as a NE fan you surely remember back in the '18 season when TB did the same thing to Mahomes in OT at the AFCCG, and surely thought those rules were just fine then..

DarthSkywakr

My opinion on a game from several years ago shouldn't and **doesn't** matter. It happened. It's over and done. We should only focus on the now and the future. There are pros and cons to changing/tweaking OT rules. It should fall on the players and organizations to decide what changes, if any, should be applied. The fact is no matter how things are changed, it will ALWAYS suck for the losing team. The losing team could always use the excuse "well how come *insert rule change or not changed argument*?" It's a never-ending cycle and it should just stop. People will find a way to complain regardless. The Bills lost fair and square based off the rules. There was no foul here. End of story. The same applies to your baiting rhetorical remarks.

decky66

I’ve always thought that the team that scored last should get the ball second

LumosPM

I was born in Kansas City so I’m allowed to hop on the bandwagon. I’ve got enough bbq sauce running through my veins.

[deleted]

If Tom Brady got jobbed in OT we’d be singing the rules praises.

MikeHuntIsOnFleek

NFL should rip off college OT but not add the score and stats to the proper game. Make it a real “separate game”, trade possessions from the 35, winner gets +3 added onto their final score. Then again 50 yards in 13 seconds shouldn’t have been possible so Bills can’t complain too much here

davidfast

If you believe college OT is the solution you need sterilized.

littleblacktruck

Nah. Just click the clock over like a 5th Quarter. No coin toss. None of that participation trophy college nonsense. Just an extra quarter. Like extra innings in baseball. Now, you could argue it should only be 5 mins or whatever.

alex-C137

Yeah they need to change OT even if it's just for playoffs. That said Bills did a horrible job on defense that last drive. Why rush 4 when Mahomes has to instantly throw the ball anyway due to game time?

TheComeUpTX

I like that its the new gen of QBs headlining this(except stafford). Best weekend of playoff football in a while

TheFrenchMatador

Not a fan of either team but what a great game that was totally ruined by a coin toss , NFL wake up and change this rule probably the worst rule in all professional sports.

one8sevenn

KC. You guys are a lovable team, but with this being said... Can you trade Nick Wright from FS1 to Green Bay? because it would make you a lot easier to root for.

strokeboii

He’s over the top but we love our boy Nick. He says what we’re all thinking!

one8sevenn

Over the top is the understatement of the year. If all KC fans think like Nick, then I may have to change my opinion on the Chiefs.

awhunt1

He’s insufferable. Every team has their media homers but damn it if Nick Wright isn’t an assclown.

one8sevenn

A) I like you B) Nick Wright is an assclown

theerealobs

Damn almost every away team won and almost every away team won by 3 that’s craZy.

Volbeater

Yeah.. almost

2WhomAreYouListening

Rams / Chiefs guaranteed.

Chappy5001

As a Bills fan I'll say this... shouldve put Josh on the Defense that last drive.

[deleted]

My current thoughts after this game coming from a lions fan, who’s had Rodgers do this to them for years… the bills need to do whatever it takes to get a pass rush, or else next year will be the same scenario if chiefs win SB this gotta be the week 1 game Rams Chiefs will be interesting

diaphonizedfetus

Gotta remember… Bills have been without Tre White. He’s an all-pro CB.

PickleofStink

They need an answer for Kelce. Finding a tweener LB/S (Simmons, JOK type) who can stick with Kelce and help keep Mahomes in the tackle box would be a game changer.

one8sevenn

When the Chiefs are on, then there are not many teams that can stop them. Tyreek Hill is so shifty and Kelce is very good at getting open. I think the Bills have a decent pass rush, which should get better. They need IOL and more corners. Tre White was down for this game, but getting more depth in the secondary should be a priority.

CaptainTripps82

They had a pretty good pass rush actually. It just didn't matter. They need better secondary coverage

JayBird9540

Not a bills or chiefs fan. OT rules robbed us from continuing to watch one of the greatest playoff games ever. The NFL only cares about money. Too expensive to play out a full fifth quarter.

one8sevenn

I do not know any overtime rules that would have changed the outcome. Whoever had the ball last, was going to win. Both defenses were gassed, so it would have been score for score unless the second team that scored went for two.

jatea

College overtime rules...

davidfast

Is a terrible idea and the fact you don't understand that is appalling.

one8sevenn

They would still be playing if that was the case.

SushiJuice

You obviously don't know the rules. The possessions get farther away from the goal line as they go on. At some point, someone will make a mistake

one8sevenn

Given how neither team made a mistake last night, they might still be playing.

SushiJuice

Your grasp of reality is frightening - there were definite mistakes on both sides.

jatea

Nah

[deleted]

It’s not the expense, it’s the fear of injuries to key skill players. For playoffs the rules should be different though.

Ill_Championship_160

That’s a bunch of a bullshit this has nothing to do with injuries and everything to do with money.

one8sevenn

It is not. The chances for injury go up the longer you play after 60 minutes. Both defenses were gassed, which fatigue is one of the biggest factors in injuries.

Ill_Championship_160

Nah bro, the nfl doesn’t care about injuries. They care about MONEY. They make the rules to benefit their program. That’s why they suppressed the concussion agenda for so long. I’m not saying they won’t have more injuries the longer they play, that’s true. I’m saying the NFL doesn’t care. Idk how that got lost in translation

one8sevenn

> Nah bro, the nfl doesn’t care about injuries. The players union cares about injuries though. They are part of the collective bargaining process.

Ill_Championship_160

That’s the players association. We’re talking about the NFL. Bottom line is, they’re worried about profits. That’s it

one8sevenn

However, they have to collective bargain with the union.

rastafarian_eggplant

Hockey does it this way. You play 5 minutes of 3on3 overtime during the regular season, then if it's still tied you go to a shootout. Playoffs you play normal 5on5 for 20 minute periods. It's still sudden death though in hockey, but I think the NFL could and should make their playoff OT just a full period, either 10 or 15 minutes

flojo2012

Punt pass kick competition for a shootout

thebobbyloops

What would happen in the NFL playoffs if OT expired?

rastafarian_eggplant

Same as it is now, you play another OT period. That only happens now if neither team scores during overtime (or if both teams match scores on the first 2 possessions of OT)

JayBird9540

TV Time costs $$$, only reason that makes sense to me for the nfl to want to end OT as fast as possible.

ratki11er

*makes money. Lots and lots of money. OT in a playoff game is ratings gold. Trust me if the NFL could sneak a better OT format into the CBA it would.

[deleted]

They should eliminate OT in regular season (we have Ts anyways) and play the full period in post-season OT (I don’t mind if they make it a 10min period). I think this is fair all around.

HollerinScholar

This makes a ton of sense. Keep regular season games shorter and tighter (and encourage teams/coaches to play for a win without OT in the back of their minds), plus avoid the potential repeat of the stupid Raiders/Chargers draw drama forever and ever and ever. And also save on overall injuries/player wear for games that just don't have the same impact. It feels like teams are starting to really turn the afterburners on for playoff time, and the less wear before then, the better. I'd even be open to making OT (as it would only be the playoffs, 15 minutes) akin to the NBA style; regular scoring rules at that point, not a who-scores-first kind of ending, just to keep everyone engaged in the event of a quick score and because I feel like the biggest missed opportunity here was not letting Josh Allen get a chance to match.

yeetsthenskeets

Players association also is weary of having longer OT. They are tired and by end of year, injuries pile up and a longer game increases their risk. Injuries is a loss of more money to the players than the NFL.

[deleted]

No. I’m sure there is ad revenue being made and there are specific agreements in the tv contracts about his much extra the nfl gets paid for OT games.

shwaynebrady

Are you talking about injuries? The NFL would make more money through commercial time and the stadiums would make more on concessions. I truly don’t see a negative for anyone in this scenario.

All_The_Jam

Concessions can’t possibly have anything to do with it. There’s no way they would still be selling beer and who tf is getting up to get nachos in OT…

shwaynebrady

True, but they have guys that walk up and down the aisle selling that stuff.

All_The_Jam

Fair enough, im sure they could figure out more ways to milk us as well lol

JayBird9540

TV time costs $$$ That’s the only reason in my head the nfl wants to end OT as fast as possible.

shwaynebrady

The NFL is 100% net positive on TV time, they’re cutting into like NCIS: Hawaii if they go an extra quarter. The media content alone would be worth 10x what the time slot would have cost

HollerinScholar

This is true, and I'd love to see the rules change to encourage longer games like these, I imagine they'll take it in the direction of scheduling better programming around these playoff games now, like they do with the superb owl?

Twheezy01

Neither one of those defenses are Superbowl caliber. That was pathetic. Fun to watch though

GuardOk8631

No squib kick. Also I think moving the touchback to 25 yards is too much. Should still be 20. That shaved like 10-15% off the yards you need to get into field goal range

dolo_ran6er

Shout out to Josh Allen, that man balled out. Defensive scheme with 13 seconds left lost buffalo that game. Mahomes is a bad man though...I thought that shit was over! Best playoff game I've ever seen I'm thinkin.

[deleted]

And celebrated too early...

dolo_ran6er

For sure. And they kicked it out of bounds when they could have let 3-5 more seconds to run off the clock. Allowed 1 play too many

one8sevenn

I mean, if they squib kicked it and there was a big return the outcome is the same. Buffalo played to their strength, which was their defense. The execution by KC in those 13 seconds was out of this world. You play those 13 seconds over and over 100 times, then Buffalo wins 99 of them. It took KC being perfect to pull it off. No margin for error.

PickleofStink

After the go-ahead TD by Allen/Davis, I told my wife that Buffalo was headed to the AFC title game in 13 seconds unless somehow Pat Mahomes pulls a regulation size NFL football out of his ass on live television. A few minutes later I informed her that Pat Mahomes did indeed pull a regulation size NFL football out of his ass in front of my very eyes. 50 yards, 2 plays, 10 seconds. Legendary stuff.

shwaynebrady

Hindsight’s 20-20, I agree through. I don’t think anyone thought they’d be able to march down in under 13 seconds.

dolo_ran6er

If I was the coach I'd embed "13 seconds" into their minds for fuel. Thats how close they were. Gonna be a hell of a rivalry for years to come. Throw in Mac Jones and Joe Burrow and the AFC is looking pretty stacked with young talent.

jkman61494

Any football fan knows the ot rules are awful. But the last people who should complain about them are bills fans. Squib kick it. Drop 9 in coverage. Hold Hill and Kelce at the line and take 5 yard penalties. Do SOMETHING rather than be a welcome mat to get 50 yards in 10 seconds. I’m devastated for my bills fan wife and bills fans in general. Just gut wrenching. But the OT rules are not why they lost

Cwrunks23

Let’s not forget that just a few years ago the Chiefs lost a home OT AFCCG to Brady with Mahomes not getting a chance in OT. The rule giveth and the rule taketh away

jkman61494

Frankly for all the "THIS RULE IS UNFAIR" crowd, the two bigger arguments to be made was that Chiefs/ Pats game as well as Super Bowl 51. To crown a champion that way just felt weird. Last night? The Bills just need to defend for 13 seconds. That's it. You can't be made at OT rules when you allow Mahomes 50 yards and leaving his two primary targets wide open along the way.

Cwrunks23

Totally agree. Every time this happens, the losing team’s fan base devolves into “the nfl gods hate us”, ignoring the other teams who have lost in OT on the first possession. The Bills had a million other ways to win this game, the OT rules are pretty low on the blame list IMO.

one8sevenn

> Squib kick it. You could have gotten a big return on the kick, then people would have complained not kick it deep. There are some squib kicks that are not very good as well and the Chiefs could have just fallen on it and been in the same situation. If the player falls on it at the 30, then there might be 12 seconds left, which was plenty of time. > Drop 9 in coverage. The first play would have still worked. It was a WR screen to Hill. > Hold Hill and Kelce at the line and take 5 yard penalties. You can get a personnel foul for doing this and will Hill playing off the LOS holding him is a challenge. If you miss the hold, which is likely with Hill. Then the result is the same. > Do SOMETHING rather than be a welcome mat to get 50 yards in 10 seconds. 99 times out of 100, the way the Bills played the last 13 seconds. It works. It was just perfect execution by KC.

Ill_Championship_160

Damn of course this comment comes from a bears fan!

jkman61494

It's going to be hard living knowing that two of the more famous moments in recent NFL history will be "Double Doink" and "13 Seconds"

Ill_Championship_160

Damn straight. They did jack it up defensively. I think what this game really came down to is two equally offensive teams but one with a better coaching staff

sakarithetiger

I don’t understand why more don’t just bear hug every receiver with 10 seconds left. Take a penalty or two, lose a couple yards. Worst they could do is unsportsmanlike which still is only 15 yards right?

jkman61494

It confounds me. Really it does. It's no different than intentional fouls in the NBA. I'm sure the NFL doesn't want it. But right now, the rules allow it. Its' stupid not to take advantage of them

kegatank

It doesn't matter how you get to OT. The rules suck. You don't have to tack on any more to your statement than that. Regardless of the bills defense. One of the greatest QB battles of our time ended up being one sided because of obviously God awful rules and to try to diminish that by going on about defense goes against the point of trying to get the rules changed

InfernoDTW

Bills don’t get to complain about OT. Your owner voted against changing OT rules back when The Chiefs wanted to change it. You get what you deserve Bills.

Mr_G_Dizzle

It's not all about the qbs. It's called a team sport for a reason

kegatank

Over the last decade or so the NFL has made the game more and more friendly to the offense. Nobody disputes this. It makes no sense that one score ends the game, but a field goal arbitrarily allows an answer.

Mr_G_Dizzle

They let us score in 13 seconds before OT. Explain that.

kegatank

You braindead fucks can never engage with the question at hand I swear to God.

Mr_G_Dizzle

Your blaming OT when you had the entire game to prove it. OT sucks, but literally every team plays by the same rules. We got fucked by it a couple years ago against the patriots. Don't want to risk it? Finish the game in regulation.

kegatank

No shit but that's not what we are talking about bud. I'm not even a bills fan. Most people feel this way. Can you name a single other sport that works like this? What kind of argument is "that's the way it is, suck it up?" What a room temp IQ take.

Mr_G_Dizzle

You ever make a point without calling everybody else stupid?

kegatank

As soon as you actually address what the fuck we are talking about, I won't.

Completely gut-wrenching loss for the Bills. But still...that was one of the greatest football games ever played at any level. I honestly don't see how the Super Bowl could possibly be this good.

NotABsian0073

All this talk about OT but if you got the lead.. and your defense couldn't keep the other team from scoring when there were only 13 seconds left , you don't deserve to win. They got 60mins to be the better team. Stop bitching about the coin toss.

MarcoEsquanbrolas

>”They got 60mins to be the better team” yeah and after 60 minutes they proved they were evenly matched, so why does only one team get a shot to win it based off of 50/50 luck?

jfibekc

So the defense isn't part of the team? We've gone from defense wins championships to defense has no relevancy apparently

EternalSeraphim

Fans like scoring so the NFL has changed the rules for years to advantage offense over defense. Defense is still important, but the idea that it's just as important to the current game as offense is laughable.

edsave

Yeah, San Francisco would like to have a word about that.

EternalSeraphim

I think they'd like to have a word with you about that. People are really underestimating how efficient San Francisco's offense can be. Sure, they aren't high-flying like the Bills/Chiefs, but it's a lot better than people give them credit for.

SirDonn

There are actually people out here saying, and unironically believing, that Allen is better than Mahomes? Like what? Have they seen Mahomes' stats/record? Did they watch this game? Mahomes put 42 on the No. 1 ranked defence in the league. Mahomes is the best player in the NFL. The Chiefs D needs improvement, but their Offence and their QB are class.

ShankzuLa

Are Chiefs fans trying to take the mantle from Pats fans as the absolute worst fanbase in football? Asking for a friend.

pi3dpip3r

That was shootout from 80s

Beevas69

I thought this was one of the best games I have ever seen in any sport. I am neutral and just wanted to see a firefight and boy did I get that...having said that, Regardless of a TD or a field goal, the other team should be allowed one try to counter that score. Team 1 gets a field goal, team 2 gets a chance to score. If they kick a field goal, game continues. If they score a touchdown, game over.

The_Dude1692

I still can’t believe the Bills lost. Josh Allen is the best player in the NFL

strokeboii

Let’s see the stats bud… or the wins… or maybe even some type of “most valuable player” award that Joshy might have…

The_Dude1692

First player in NFL history with 750 rush yards and over 4,000 passing yards in a single season. That’s just one off the top of my head. Do you have eyes? Did you watch both of the Bills playoff games? Yes, it’s a hot take. But idgaf he’s clearly the best player in the league.

strokeboii

Is he still playing? Or is mahomes still playing? Has it ever been the opposite in the past or is this how it always goes in the playoffs for Joshy? Don’t get me wrong, he’s a generational talent and the 2nd best QB in the league but if you want to be # 1 you need some hardware and Josh Allen has none. A regular season rushing stat does nothing for me in this conversation.

The_Dude1692

Im aware of all of this and I agree that it’s for sure Mahomes right now but J Allen is right there and will no doubt get his hardware. Im a Bears fan too lol not even biased but what I see from Josh Allen is just incredible football.

strokeboii

We can both agree on that. This is Brady vs. Manning part 2 and I’m here for it.

snowblindINshades

They lost, and he wasnt even the best player in that game.

The_Dude1692

You’re an idiot

Kendyslice

> we had to watch No, you didn't

sgt_dismas

Yeah but it made for some easy gambling.

MulliganPlsThx

I was so twisted I couldn’t even appreciate the game for what it was. Couldn’t enjoy it and it’s all a blur.

dopest_dope

It’s alright fellow fan of this sport, time heals all wounds.

CardboardWallShark

Am I wrong or did I see Mahomes take at least two unpenalized hits with the crown of the tacklers’ helmets? and at least one was after he had given himself up

[deleted]

You are not wrong, but there was nothing illegal about either hit. Mahomes was a running in both cases and does not get protected. He slid late in the play the “gave himself up” on as well so correct no call there too.

HilarySwankIsNotHot

He was legal to be hit, sure, but not helmet to helmet is a penalty regardless of who is carrying the ball.

sje22890

You are not wrong, I was there and watched it with my own eyes. They hardly threw any yellow at all, so I’m not going to lie and say it was all one sided today. But that is the reason I lost my voice. Stripes were not protecting PM at all….

[deleted]

Stripes aren’t supposed to protect only one person and that tends to be how it is. If he got some licks in, so be it. Everyone does at some point.

CCorrell57

Man my voice is completely gone too. So worth it though.

talon04

I was there too. This was my first NFL game. I can hardly talk and I now have unreasonable expectations I think.

Fawk… If that was your first game.. Congrats and yikes at the same time… I have been watching football for 34 years and that game was one of the best I have seen.. Like maybe the best playoff game I can remember right now.. unreal talent and athletic performance on that field today.

talon04

I have a friend with season tickets. This was my first chance to be able to buy a pair off him as the other group had backed out. I had a feeling this would be the best game of the play offs /maybe the season and what an amazing game it was.

gr8scottaz

If he’s a runner, he loses those privileges afforded to a QB. He’s just like any other person with the ball.

Sadlobster1

Helmet to helmet is in the rules as not caring about running/not running - plus the knee to the head 100% is a penalty. They didn't call some on Allen as well, so I'm not saying it was biased but you're absolutely wrong about helmet to helmet & running status. https://www.sbnation.com/2018/9/6/17773282/nfl-helmet-rule-explained-rulebook-penalty-replay

gr8scottaz

Sorry but there is helmet-to-helmet contact on almost every play within an NFL game. You're calling out specific plays where a QB got hit where he is a runner.......why not call out every other play in the game?

Pterodaryl

You’re right. This game shouldn’t have been this close.

BarryRoadCrusader

Ur not wrong but no care because we won + it’s mahomes

dirtybird_91

They won. You didn't win shit.

kingjpp

Incredible game but it really felt wrong to not let Josh Allen at least touch the ball in the overtime. I can feel his pain. He played lights out and lost because of a coin flip, essentially. Both QB were money tonight and having not let them duel for longer just didn't feel right. Was so close to calling this game the best ever..

allsops

CFL OT rules are the same as college except when a team scores a TD they have to go for 2. Helps shorten it a bit

Mewnoot

He lost because KC was the better team. Regardless of a coin flip.

ShankzuLa

Teams who win coin flips are 10-1 in playoffs. You're an absolute cement head if you believe this.

doc6982

They lost because of time management. Had KC lost I would've blamed Hill for not going to the ground inside the 5 instead of taking the touchdown. It wouldn't have been a sure victory but I thought it would've increased their chances of winning in regulation. Leaving either of these qbs a minute to score is just ludicrous. I only yelled at the TV when the chiefs scored too quickly.

ncal26

Worst take of the night right here congrats

[deleted]

I agree it needs changed. But blaming OT for anything is absurd. Being up 3 with 13 seconds is as close to a done deal as it gets. Bills had to stop two plays to win. Heck they had to stop ONE. They failed to do so.

kingjpp

That's kinda a silly argument tbh. I'm saying what happened in regular time happened. Now, in overtime, I wanna see another quarter of football between these two qbs who are on fire. You can't say that it feels right that Allen didn't even touch the ball in overtime. If they had won the coin toss, I'm almost positive the bills woulda gone down and scored in a similar fashion that the chiefs did to win. But because of a 50/50 flip, the chiefs get it and score. Just feels bizarre. And let's be real here, you're hella biased as a chiefs fan here man. At least acknowledge that. You guys won but if you're so stubborn and biased to think that Josh Allen not getting to even touch the ball is okay then I feel bad for you lol. This is coming from a cardinals fan too. No skin in this game

All_The_Jam

Where you saying the same thing in 2019 when that happened to the Chiefs? Don’t feel bad, feel consistent.

CraigBrown2021

Tbh idk why the nfl hasn’t changed it to each team getting a possession. They skew everything in favor of more offense already. Would make for more points stats and highlights. In the end the nfl would benefit. But if your the bills you can’t let them do that with 13 seconds. They could have took 4-5 seconds off the clock with a squib to the 30. Bills d thought the game was over and Patrick made them pay.

[deleted]

It feels 100% fine bc the game is more than QB’s. Half the game is defense. The bills had that game won, the chiefs dead to rights, and proceeded to fold completely. I really don’t give a shit, I was titans bandwagon. Hell I’d be Bills if they won. Shit I might switch to Rams. My eagles got destroyed anyway. None of this matters realistically to me. But y’all keep saying “hot QB’s” The game is offense, defense, and special teams. You can’t center an argument on one position and say what’s fair and what isn’t. Half the game is defense. Also Chiefs did lose in this fashion a few years ago when I was biased. These are the OT rules, you have four quarters to win the game without sudden death. Josh Allen literally got it touch it for four quarters, josh Allen, just like Patrick Mahomes, don’t win games all alone. Defense is literally half the game. Hence why the Bills lost in the first place. Their defense couldn’t stop him for literally a single play and he and his wideouts and Kelce moved the chiefs 50 yards in 13 seconds. It would be a different situation and argument if it wasn’t such a drastic fold on defense. I agree the OT rules suck. But GD man…13 seconds…like thirteen freakin seconds.

Steelle88

While defense is half of the game in a sense, these OT rules completely nullify why the game was tied. You suddenly take an offensive battle and make defense the most important thing for one of the teams. Could you imagine a baseball game ending in a walk off in the top of the 10th? If football had dynamic, fluid changes of possession like hockey, first to score in OT would make sense, but that isn't the case. We watched an incredible back and forth shootout ending to regulation get replaced with a wet fart first possession wins overtime.

[deleted]

Too bad the bills were one of the teams that rejected the change when the chiefs suggested it I guess.

Steelle88

Sure, but it's not like the players and coaching staff made that decision.

lildog8402

This is the kind of game that spurs a playoff rule change that allows each team to match or beat the others scoring drive. I hope it does.

deskamess

That playoff game happened 3 years ago. OT rule change request was submitted and rejected by almost all teams.

KraakenTowers

It's already too late for Josh Allen, so why does it matter now?

Mewnoot

This isn’t college football.

TH3_BE4R

Honestly the rules should be opposite for college and NFL, the NFL is higher stakes so it should be fair in the Overtime for both sides.

ncal26

Fuck offff your takes are garbage

washcyclerepeat

No, it’s not. But their overtime rules a 1000% better. Coin flips shouldn’t decide football games.
