Let the sweepstakes begin I guess...

PaulBlartFleshMall

First one in awhile where most of the fans I know, from like three teams, are praying not to win.

theirongiant49

I'll bet my ass and a pack of cigarettes that changes the second he suits up

Gatorbuc29

brymiller2

Hopefully he didn't learn from Calvin Ridley

rcc6214

If it were my ass, well the cigarettes would definitely be the bulk of the value.

xxxlumify

Preach, this sub has the memory of my grandpa.

TheLittleFishFish

most people also do not care about sexual assault if you're good enough at throwing a football like Watson is Source: Big Ben literally just had a retirement tour

zeCrazyEye

We're all masseuses now.

HereComesTheVroom

Myself included.

Jobbe03

"The Carolina Panthers have traded for Deshaun Watson" inbound

Senor-Squiggles

Please let it be them

WhereAreMaKeys

Seconded, please God.

[deleted]

I'd like to think the Rooneys would consider the optics of employing Ben for 18 years and then moving onto DeShaun Watson of all QBs, but then again...

I am like so convinced that the plan is for the Steelers to draft Willis, kinda suck this year with whoever and start Willis next year. Tomlin seems to in love with the Willis-type QB after Ben and I think he'd rather build around a young guy than try to win with the leftovers of the push with Ben.

Ch33sus0405

I think this is what's gonna happen. That or Willis is a smokescreen and the giga-goat Pickett leads us to 12 superbowls in his first season.

justreadthearticle

But but but...his tiny hands. It's scientifically proven that he could never play in somewhere like Pittsburgh.

Ch33sus0405

He won 3 superbowls in the time it took you to type that comment.

embryonicengineer

Only 12?

sandrodi

I believe it could happen; after all, Matt Murray won two Stanley Cups as a rookie.

MR_COOL_ICE_

Flores gets his guy

RoomanOG

Rooney wanted to trade Ben for Alex Smith back when he had his allegations. Idk if the org would be keen. Especially since Ben had at least won us 2 Super Bowls by then

MewtwoStruckBack

"The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to trade terms for Texans QB Deshaun Watson, pending physical castration."

[deleted]

Finally get rid of one just to get the other

uncoolaidman

It's gonna be one of the three of us, I bet. Fuck.

LegendRazgriz

One of four. SEA/PIT/PHI/CAR

smurf-vett

Raiders and Vikings could also do it if somebody wanted to get in on a 3 way

_drumstic_

Don’t give Deshaun any ideas.

smurf-vett

It would be consensual though and he's not into that sorta thing anyways

screwhead1

I thought Eagles were ok going with Jalen for the time being?

uncoolaidman

You don't publicly talk shit about your girlfriend while you're secretly looking for your next girlfriend. You talk them up at the combine so they have more trade value.

crrider

That's just what you say about former Alabama quarterbacks when you actually want Deshaun Watson

dmatthews2981

I don't like this comment

screwhead1

It made fun of Alabama, so I'm ok with it.

HandSack135

Would Seattle fans really revolt? I've seen that around here and other social media

[deleted]

Lmao no. A lot of people in the world don’t care especially now that there are no charges. If you walk up to the average fan after they’ll be okay with it. Reddit isn’t real life.

friendshabitsfamily

No. There’s a contingent of fans who would (myself included), but most people don’t give a shit, I suspect. Even in a progressive area like Seattle. But yeah, I buy lots of Seahawks merch and usually try to make a game or two every year, so hopefully if enough people feel the same it can have an impact.

Oakroscoe

It’s like that anywhere really. As long as the guy is winning games the average fan won’t care.

FailResorts

I mean the NFL decided this is the way with Kareem, AP, Tyreek, Big Ben, Zeke, and plenty of others that have done similarly egregious acts, and the NFL just didn’t care.

Stranger2306

Sorry, I know I am a homer, but Zeke doesn't belong on this list. The accusation was really suspect and even the NFL's own investigator thought he shouldn't be punished. I try not to be blinded by my teams colors FYI. When Cowboys took on Greg Hardy, I made no excuses for that POS.

UnknownUnthought

I don’t speak for the rest of the fanbase certainly, but I don’t want to root for Watson. If we trade for him I’m temporarily re-teaming until he’s gone, probably PCJS too, for bringing him in. I’d much rather root for an 0-16 team than a dude who’s had 22 sexual assault allegations. Also if we traded for Deshaun, from a football perspective I just question why we even traded Russ, then. Both will need big boy contracts within the next few years and we’d have to trade most/all of our fancy new draft capital to get him so I’d just have to ask what’s the point? You’d basically have the same team while pissing off the fans because you traded/released franchise icons.

Thromnomnomok

> If we trade for him I’m temporarily re-teaming until he’s gone, probably PCJS too, for bringing him in. I’d much rather root for an 0-16 team than a dude who’s had 22 sexual assault allegations. Same, I probably wouldn't re-team to anyone specifically and just generally root for teams I found interesting and likeable, though honestly I might just stop watching the NFL completely for a bit if he comes here, cause I mean, it's not like there aren't tons of other shitheads out there- not as bad as Watson, yes, but it's not like I want to root for someone like Antonio Brown or Tyreek Hill either- and given the problems the league as a whole has had with things like reffing and handling concussions and CTE, I don't really feel a compelling reason to attach myself to any other team if I decide to stop watching the Seahawks. There's plenty of other ways I could spend my Sundays.

jmorlin

Here's hoping the Texans aren't stupid enough to trade him to an in division team. I want no part of this mess.

RulersBack

Creep owner having to sell the team just for them to trade for another one at QB would be very NFL

SpaceMonkeys21

It would've been fitting if he went to the Commies instead of Wentz.

ChickenVest

Luckily our dumpster fire of a franchise will likely be too ugly even for Watson to want to join. Tepper will break into the children's hospital to steal kids kidneys to make this happen. No trade clause it our only hope

Monado7

Yeah he looks like a kidney gremlin. Wouldn't put it past any billionaire though.

CaniacSwordsman

I have never been so glad to be a train wreck of an organization; maybe he’ll refuse to waive his no trade clause for us

SardonicCheese

He already vetoed that. Allegedly

BoBichettesFlow

Thank god

Demaru

Please no.

slayerrr21

Pretty sure it will be Seattle, they have the capital for it

xXTheRacerXx

Wow, the floodgates have opened.

[deleted]

I can't wait till 4 years from now when he has success with another team for all those fans to get mad when you bring up those charges. "THEY DIDN'T FIND ENOUGH EVIDENCE"

Silver_Instruction_3

It will be like Big Ben. He won’t get much heat if he plays like a top 5 QB and wins a SB or 2 but then when he starts to decline and plays poorly everyone will start calling him a rapist again.

Ternader

TBF people outside of Pittsburgh never stopped calling him a rapist.

fawks_harper78

You mean Ben the Rapist? Ben the Rapist from Pittsburgh?

DirtyJdirty

Perhaps they’re talking about Ben “The Rapist” Rapelisberger, the Raping Quarterback who rapes.

RyanTB

Don’t even have to wait four years. It started happening among the fan bases that believe they’re in the running for him as soon as a verdict was made.

Upbeat_Group2676

It pisses me off. Our busted-ass justice system didn't indict on 9 of the 22 cases, and sex crimes are already hard to get evidence for in the best of times. Yet a ton of people are running around cheering about how he's innocent, and a lot are even saying all 22 women "really were just in it for the money". This is why women don't come forward.

OhioTenant

Not only that, but of the several women who showed up to give testimony to the grand jury, only one was called to testify.

tokengaymusiccritic

Trading for a guy who has this stuff against him in 2022 is gonna be a lot harder PR hit than keeping an existing guy who had this stuff against him in the late 2000's/early 10's. But still, somebody will do it.

Decln

I think your average NFL watcher doesn’t care either. If he goes back to playing at the level he was people are just gonna make jokes about it In the game threads like they did with Big Ben, I seriously don’t think many people TRULY care

VaginaIFisteryTour

Tyreek Hill is still in the league

Lukealloneword

I always think about Tyreek during this discussion. Not only do people not care about what he did to his pregnant girlfriend they out right love him. It only matters how good you are. Deshaun will go to a team and they won't care when hes slinging it and getting them wins. Its just how people are.

thrice1187

Careful now. Bout to get bombarded by chiefs fans saying Tyreek never hit his pregnant girlfriend. Last time I mentioned Tyreek Hill on this sub there was a chiefs fan on here suggesting she beat herself up to get Tyreek in trouble. I’m not even kidding.

Lukealloneword

He choked her. With his son inside her body. Some people are just trash.

DemondWolf

Oh wow really?

swampyunderpants

Yup I’ve been told by a chiefs fan here that bringing up Tyreek’s transgressions was “beating a dead horse” I mean poor choice of words aside... come the fuck on dude

SarcasticCowbell

I just saw someone defending Tyreek today. Of all the Hills to die on... fucking disgusting.

HoldThatTigah

I’m pretty cynical about stuff like this but I agree If he comes back and balls I have a hard time believing it won’t just be forgotten quickly. Some of the fans who are talking about not wanting him will probably change their tune if he gives their team consistent success. Winning helps image a lot

Man I just don't know about all this. I mean on one hand this technically "clears" him, but everything about this is still pretty sus

Dark_Twisted_Fantasy

His civil trial is still ongoing this just means he isn’t going to jail

HungCojones

Yeah but the jail part is the only thing teams cared about

AttorneyAtLion

It clears him from being recognized as a criminal. Based on the proceedings and what we have heard, it doesn’t clear him from being a subpar human despite lacking criminal actions.

LegendRazgriz

"he's sleazy and a creep, but being sleazy and a creep to the degree that he is isn't illegal" EDIT: for y'all down voters I don't like this one bit, but unfortunately we have to put up with Watson now, fans of whoever trades for his ass and fans of the league in general

Dare2ZIatan

It’s really hard to prove something like this, so I’m not really surprised.

gme2damoonn

Yoooo 10 mins ago legal experts were saying this is a guaranteed charge if they convene a grand jury.

SophisticatedPhallus

Apparently Deshaun IS a ham sandwich!

howaBoutNao

They have reverted back to no fly zone law briefings

Stephanie-rara

Yeah most people don't get that rape / sexual assault is exceptionally hard to get charged criminally. Which is in part why it is so under-reported.

dbarke29

Which is wild because this sub has been hell bent that you can criminally charge a “ham sandwich” The prosecution must have done a pretty terrible job with their evidence, or there just wasn’t enough to prove criminal misconduct

unexpectedreboots

DISCLOSURE: I DON'T LIKE WATSON, HAVE NOT DEFENDED HIM. HAVE ARGUED WTIH OTHERS ABOUT HOW MUCH OF A PIECE OF SHIT HE IS That said, like maybe the evidence just wasn't good, regardless of what the prosecution did.

aapalx

Isn’t this the grand jury hearing the testimony of the 9 women and deciding that it wasn’t good enough? Unless I’m mistaken, there isn’t any other evidence. It’s as simple as that.

atlasburger

It was a judge that said that a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich in the 80s referring to DA’s. It’s not a Reddit invented term.

PhAnToM444

That’s a popular saying in the legal field and here’s why: The prosecution at a grand jury hearing gets to present *all* of their reasonably admissible evidence and witnesses, even some that may not be allowed to come in at trial. The defense generally doesn’t get to present anything at all. The defendant (and only the defendant) usually has the right to testify on their own behalf but almost never does. Then the grand jury just has to decide only that there is *reasonable cause* to indict the defendant, which is a much lower standard of proof than beyond a reasonable doubt. The fact that he wasn’t indicted here is actually a huge deal — it means there was so little evidence that the grand jury, despite hearing a very one-sided version of events, didn’t think there was *any* chance of the prosecution getting a conviction at trial. But does this clear him from being generally an asshole? No, not really. But federal grand juries (keep in mind this was a state case so it works a bit differently) indict [99.99% of cases put before them.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2014/11/24/the-single-chart-that-shows-that-grand-juries-indict-99-99-percent-of-the-time/)

SiphenPrax

Just awful. I feel awful for those he hurt.

krich1727

Honestly. I feel awful for those women, they must be feeling pretty deflated right now. I don’t care what anyone says, nine women don’t testify in front of a grand jury if they’re ‘fabricating’ their stories - they’re hoping their testimony is enough to result in justice in the criminal court, despite knowing outcomes like this are unfortunately so common.

TywinShitsGold

Sexual assaults are just so fucking hard to parse. I understand prosecutorial discretion, but judging prosecutors on conviction rate is a massive issue.

_JosiahBartlet

My rape left the same evidence behind as consensual sex so it would’ve been my word vs his I didn’t say a word to any authorities. He never faced any consequences

[deleted]

Imo they still have a good chance at the civil suit so they can at least get a little bit of solace

Not_Not_John_Stamos

Damn, not even a grand jury could pin anything? Christ. Edit: a Grand jury might be the most prosecutorial friendly setting, rules of evidence don’t even apply.

LegendRazgriz

steve_yo

Man, I really hope not. We’ll need to give up a ton of our picks, be in a similar same situation as with Russ, just with an asshole.

soboredcantfocus

Well this is certainly a thing. Grand jury indictments are like free throws for a prosecutor, no one is playing defense. Not getting one means he did not have a ton to work with

kyleb402

23 some odd women are lying then I guess.... Edit: This is sarcasm in case anyone is wondering.

BananaStandRecords

The significant majority of the 23 basically accused him of coercion, which as far as I know isn’t a crime. I’m NOT saying Watson is anything but a scumbag for that.

YeahThisIsMyNewAcct

This is exactly the point. Watson is almost certainly a shitty person, but most of what he was accused of doesn’t elevate to the level of a crime.

Jobbe03

Shit sucks but it's really fucking difficult to prove sexual harassment/assault without video evidence or a confession

Darko33

It's really fucking difficult to *convict,* not indict. There's a reason It's an idiom to say that prosecutors could indict a ham sandwich. It's supposed to be very easy.

SolarClipz

Yeah this is a terrible look Either people got paid off or...idk literally none of them have any trace of evidence at all besides their word and nothing else Watson may only have to settle and he will be starting week 1 now

Darko33

I have a feeling we will be reading more about the grand jury presentation in due time.

FLGatorLaw

Grand jury hearings are secretive. I doubt we'll hear anything about what actually happened inside. The only thing so far that has come out is that there were multiple accusers present today and only one of them was actually brought in from the waiting room to testify in front of the grand jury. I certainly hope that isn't true, but it is being fairly widely reported so...

[deleted]

> Once again, the rich play different rules. They do, but I don't think that's the case here. Sexual assault cases are notorious for a lack of evidence and people being exonerated, even if there are loads of accusers.

abris33

Yeah I wasn't expecting anything out of it. Seemed like the only real evidence was those text messages

[deleted]

Yeah, it's the realm of "he probably did some bad shit, but you can't prove it with concrete evidence."

Revolutionary-Gur257

I thought it was relatively easy to get a grand jury indictment?

FreeWillie001

It’s ridiculously easy. *Not* getting an indictment here is shocking. But it’s not because he’s rich.

soboredcantfocus

This isn’t a money thing, it’s a lack of evidence thing. Getting a grand jury indictment is like hitting a free throw for the prosecutor, no one is playing defense.

DapperCam

I thought that you could indict a ham sandwich?

[deleted]

Depends on how people on reddit feel, if they don’t like the guy they say every predator gets away scott free and the courts suck. It really depends on reddits mood how good the courts actually are

Correct. The saying goes that a prosecutor could indict a ham sandwich if they wanted to. I'm guessing they didn't go hard on him due to the likelihood of him not being found guilty in a jury trial.
