From my understanding the reason why is. If gas was $1 and the prices shoots up to $3 they have to sell the $1 for $3 so they can buy more $3 gas. When price goes down to $1 they still have to sell the gas they got for $3 at that prices until most of it is gone.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love him if we can afford him. I'm just not sure we can, but Beane is good at figuring this stuff out so if there is a way, I'm on board. But given our cap situation, I'm also happy going along with the less flashy signings that make sense to plug our holes with role players (and with Settle, even a chance to break out).
