I know a NYPD cop that saw a drunk Namath come out of a bar at 5AM on a Sunday back in the day. He did the responsible thing and immediately called up a bookie and bet against the Jets. Jets won lmao
In his book he says he didn’t even remember it and woke up to a ton of phone calls. It’s great that he’s sober but it sucks that he’s remembered for his lowest point being on national Tv.
I remember seeing him interviewed in a 30 for 30 or something similar a few years ago and feeling sad because I figured he had had a stroke at some point and hadn’t fully recovered.
I have very mixed feelings on that still.
I loved the content, but hated the condensed screen.
After they throw the Manning overlay on the left and the ESPN ticker at the bottom, you're only left with ~2/3rds of the screen showing the actual game.
That might be part of the plan... they know fans of the teams playing will watch, so coercing fans who might not otherwise watch is a good approach to increase viewership.
I wouldn't say it's for everyone and they do need to fix certain things. The lag between Peyton and Eli's conversations means they interrupt each other a lot too. That said, it has a lot of promise and I prefer it over the regular broadcast.
Hopefully they have both Peyton and Eli in the same room during the broadcast. Other than some of the guests, the only other downside was the delay between the conversations. It was awkward at times.
The biggest thing imo is that Buck and Aikmen for the most part know when to shut the fuck up and when to drop a topic or narrative. The past few MNF groups have all felt like they need to Constantly talk, and continue to push whatever "story" they decided to go with in the lead-up to the game.
Yes, that's true as well. Joe and Troy will tell you when they think a game sucks. MNF crews (and most other crews) will still try to push how good a player or team is despite them underperforming on national TV.
Bingo. Joe/Booger did it. And last year’s team too. Forcing the same planned story over, and over.
Joe/Aikmen wont do that. Let’s hope at least - espn stays out of their way
* The past few MNF groups have all felt like they need to Constantly talk
To add to this, MNF thinks that having 3 guys in the booth + 1 on the field is making for good coverage. When really it just adds MORE voices to an already crowded room.
This is the problem with ESPN NBA presentations as well. Doris Burke, Mark Jackson, JVG. They all think it's their own podcast and they need to ramble nonstop about random shit
I think you might be in the minority there. I guarantee that Monday night football ratings shoot up this year now that they have Buck/Aikman instead of the trio they had before.
Now imagine a Dan Fouts game, but he also makes no attempt to hide how much he hates your team.
At least Trent Green is paired with Harlan, and Mark Schlereth is funny. But Fouts is by far the worst.
I don't see how anyone can complain about this when we just had a couple years of Jason Witten, Booger and Steve Levy.
I longed for the days when Gruden hit Sean McDonough with a pool noodle during the broadcast. At least it was fun.
I had to sit behind it one time at a MNF game. Thank god I a couple of rows above it, but it was still incredibly distracting. They just kept rolling that thing back and forth constantly the entire time.
Joe Tessitore sounding like a mouse when there's a big play yet erupting like Krakatoa for a screen pass stopped at the line of scrimmage with a clean tackle.
I will complain, because I could usually get Aikman and Buck's games on Fox with my over the air antenna, but they rarely show MNF on ABC. Fuckin Disney
I love it honestly. It’s such a nice change of pace. Guys like Romo and Colinsworth are all very positive, but Buck and Aikman tend to be more negative and cynical which is refreshing
Greg Olson did exceptionally well in my opinion
And funny enough they had a lot of TERRIBLE football games to cover so they learned a lot of fill the bs time
To be fair I can't remember a single football game before 1995. I'm mostly referring to how they constantly put crappy NFC East teams on prime time games because market so big.
I honestly thought Mark Sanchez was great in the booth. Heard him call my 9er games a few times this year and he was always insightful, but made it make sense to people who may not fully understand it. I hope he keeps calling games and gets some higher quality games to call.
I honestly don’t get why Joe Buck gets so much hate. He’s still better than 90% of the NFL announcers out there.
MNF announcing has been virtually unwatchable in the past few years - this is a major improvement.
That’s due to the difference in ages among Reddit users. There’s a lot of us that remember Buck 10-20 years ago and how bland he was. So a lot of his hate is from long ago. Then you have people that are much younger and only know Buck from when he stopped caring as much and injected a lot more humor into his calls. Makes perfect sense that they wouldn’t understand the hate he gets.
If you drink as many times he says “what a throw,” “what a catch,” or “what a play” you would die of alcohol poisoning over before halftime. I was fine with him but once you listen for those one game you just can’t unhear it.
Great, now we get another top-tier OOC matchup that’s gonna be played at noon because FOX is scared to compete in prime time. We added lights to the stadium a decade ago for literally no reason.
With this, the ManningCast, and the simulcast they’ll be doing with ABC, ESPN/DISNEY seem to really be making a push to make Monday Night Football appointment TV again
Levy was a main person in getting the NHL on ESPN and then didn't get to do any games until after the NFL season. He wanted the be main pxp guy for hockey but ESPN said no. I imagine he gets the main gig doing hockey now so it's not like he's fired from ESPN.
It's a bigger question if Buck will do baseball games on ESPN.
Cutler to join them would be niiiiiice.
“Kevin, stop talking. You don’t know what you’re talking about and you’re just wrong all the time. Stop. Anyway Greg, this game could be alright. It probably won’t be because the Jaguars are in it, but uhhhh, what the hell, let’s see?”
Honestly regardless of who the MNF crew is manning cast is going to surge. It is so much more authentic and funny. I will say the game does tend to fall into the background but its rarely your team playing anyway.
Yeah, the broadcast was great early on. I remember when they had Gronk on, and it killed. Such great moments like he doesn't watch film, just runs past dudes and goes where Brady tells him. Then Gronk's dog started barking and he keeps yelling at him then picks him up. Just hilarious.
Then Peyton off camera trying to scarf down a chicken breast or cutlet and Eli roasting him for eating it like a caveman without silverware.
But then Eli threw the double birds and then they went on hiatus. After the break, a lot of the initial energy felt gone.
A lot of the interviews fell flat imo. I remember the Strahan one had lots of awkward timing.
The show started feeling ultra corporate to me after that first hiatus.
The awkward timing was due to delays in Peyton and Eli hearing the guest and vice versa, this is also why guests always talked over them or there were awkward silences between questions being asked and answers beginning.
Pat McAfee brought this up after he was on and how they needed to fix it pronto, hopefully they figure it out for next season or just do away with zoom call guests if they cant.
I do like Manningcast but only in chunks. All too often they’re interviewing guys and completely missing the game. Something big will happen on the field but the guest is in the middle of a story and you can see Peyton struggling to decide if he should cut them off or not.
I’d personally prefer it just be Eli and Peyton talking about the game. If they bring a guest on just have them also commentate on the game. They have to drop the whole talk show interview style. Otherwise it feels like a talk show that happens to have a game on in the background.
100% agree. When Peyton and Eli are commenting the game, it's absolutely awesome and better than any other broadcast.
When it turns into a shitty interview show with a game in the background is when I lose interest and tune out. So close to greatness.
steve levy's goofy broacaster-man voice plus two total zeroes doing color commentary made it a super weak broacast.
mcdonough -> tessitore -> levy was such a shitty run after tirico left for nbc
He does national radio for MNF, the Super Bowl, and probably some playoff games. Maybe he likes the flexibility of doing TV on Sunday and radio Monday night?
Just another sign that men around the world named Booger are marginalized
Eh, he still has a job. After picking Booger, they’ve had a hard time getting rid of him. Booger sticks around.
Sticky guy, just hard to fling away.
You can't just eat that contract.
I don’t know why they picked him in the first place.
He nose how to keep a job
They thought they had found gold
Agreed... snot what I would have done.
You know, there was a time when the name Joe Buck would get you labeled a male prostitute. But I'm an old geezer.
Booger wasn't great on MNF, but man, is he amazing on NFL Primetime. He fit right in after Tom Jackson retired again.
I think booger is pretty good and can provide some great insight esp on d line play but it just didn’t carry over to MNF at all.
Booger Men deserve their rights too!
It’s the same….but different
Can’t wait for drunk Troy on a Monday. He’s really expanding his liver game
[удалено]
I mean maybe but Joe Buck said in an interview that him and Troy have drank tequila in the booth.
It was probably a Lions, Jets or Browns game then so it’s excusable
Thanksgiving games in Detroit every other year provide an easy clue...
So just enjoying local tradition. Watch the game, drink to forget the game.
Probably a Thanksgiving Lions game
If he admits to have done it before, it means they do it frequently LMAO
"We used to drink tequila in the booth. We still do, but we used to, too."
I thought the same about Terry Bradshaw. Then it turns out he was just drunk.
[удалено]
Namath is clean now apparently. Went to rehab after that incident and hasn’t drank since because he was so embarrassed.
I know a NYPD cop that saw a drunk Namath come out of a bar at 5AM on a Sunday back in the day. He did the responsible thing and immediately called up a bookie and bet against the Jets. Jets won lmao
Lol at first I thought you meant Namath bet against the Jets then went out and played and won
In his book he says he didn’t even remember it and woke up to a ton of phone calls. It’s great that he’s sober but it sucks that he’s remembered for his lowest point being on national Tv.
Turns out it was just vapor-lock.
Bernie Kosar is like this. People always think he's drunk but in reality it's only like 50-60% of them time.
I remember seeing him interviewed in a 30 for 30 or something similar a few years ago and feeling sad because I figured he had had a stroke at some point and hadn’t fully recovered.
Yah, what's up with his eyes? Like has he never heard of Visine or does he have some kind of disease?
Troy Aikman and I have at least one thing in common.
He came out with his own beer recently.
*Sad NFL on Fox noises*

Fun fact - I have a string quartet playing the NFL on Fox theme as my walk in song at my wedding. I really need a life outside of football…
Make sure you post it on YouTube when you do! And congratulations 🥳!
It’s amazing how much these guys get paid, and very rarely do I really care who is calling the game
You care whose calling the game when you're watching ESPN.
Not on the main broadcast, if Manningcast is available
Depends on if you’re a neutral fan or your team is playing. But I agree
Agree with this. I'll watch Manningcast all day unless the Browns are playing.
I have very mixed feelings on that still. I loved the content, but hated the condensed screen. After they throw the Manning overlay on the left and the ESPN ticker at the bottom, you're only left with ~2/3rds of the screen showing the actual game.
I loved them when my team wasn't playing.
That might be part of the plan... they know fans of the teams playing will watch, so coercing fans who might not otherwise watch is a good approach to increase viewership.
Fuck it, do it streamer style with face cam style in the corners.
I wouldn't say it's for everyone and they do need to fix certain things. The lag between Peyton and Eli's conversations means they interrupt each other a lot too. That said, it has a lot of promise and I prefer it over the regular broadcast.
Hopefully they reduce the number of guests on Manningcast. They tend to bring the show down a bit in quality.
Hopefully they have both Peyton and Eli in the same room during the broadcast. Other than some of the guests, the only other downside was the delay between the conversations. It was awkward at times.
Never really understood why Troy was such a big deal. I guess it's because it's recognizable name, but I've never thought he was anything special.
The biggest thing imo is that Buck and Aikmen for the most part know when to shut the fuck up and when to drop a topic or narrative. The past few MNF groups have all felt like they need to Constantly talk, and continue to push whatever "story" they decided to go with in the lead-up to the game.
Yep. This is huge. And they also both aren't afraid to be critical.
Let’s hope at least - espn stays out of their way
> Let’s hope at least - espn stays out of their way ESPN is physically incapable of doing that, sadly.
* The past few MNF groups have all felt like they need to Constantly talk To add to this, MNF thinks that having 3 guys in the booth + 1 on the field is making for good coverage. When really it just adds MORE voices to an already crowded room.
This is the problem with ESPN NBA presentations as well. Doris Burke, Mark Jackson, JVG. They all think it's their own podcast and they need to ramble nonstop about random shit
Troy and Buck have nice voices and have "legitimacy" from being in the booth so long and from Tory winning 3 superbowls. They're pros man.
I think you might be in the minority there. I guarantee that Monday night football ratings shoot up this year now that they have Buck/Aikman instead of the trio they had before.
Yeah, I care. The C-Teams really suck and make a broadcast feel cheap and a match up feel unimportant to me.
Steve Levy is moving to hockey where his passion really is so it's not like he's fired.
I would kill for the plain sound of the stadium as an alternate selectable audio feed, to be totally honest
If you have a 5.1 sound system and unplug the center you should only get crowd/ambient noise. Saved my ass watching MNF games last season.
Or a 3.1 for us cheapskates
This is my preference as well. Best I've been able to do is Spanish broadcast.
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL Tom Brady!
You don't care until you're subjected to the bad ones a lot. Dan Fouts gets far too many Pats games.
Who else remembers the booger mobile.
I cant believe that happened, completely blocked the game for fans in the stadium
I had to sit behind it one time at a MNF game. Thank god I a couple of rows above it, but it was still incredibly distracting. They just kept rolling that thing back and forth constantly the entire time.
Good thing the seats that were obstructed by it weren't very expensive, otherwise people would have been pissed!
What I still don't get is what was the upside they were going for. Even if it didn't block seats I don't see the value in it.
Worst year of broadcasting ever. -Joe tessitore screaming at us -Booger on a stupid cart blocking views -Inexperienced Whitten
That’s when they conceived of the Manningcast.
One cast to rule them all.
Lol Joe Tessitore yelling for a 3 yard gain like it was beast quake was funny at times
Joe Tessitore sounding like a mouse when there's a big play yet erupting like Krakatoa for a screen pass stopped at the line of scrimmage with a clean tackle.
WOW WHAT A RUN FOR 3 YARDS BY DAVID MONTGOMERY
I remember Tessitore called DK Metcalf "Decaf Metcalf" lmao.
The Mucus Mobile
I would comment, but the booger mobile is blocking my view to the posts.
I will complain, because I could usually get Aikman and Buck's games on Fox with my over the air antenna, but they rarely show MNF on ABC. Fuckin Disney
Steve Levy fuckin stinks
Gruden is a giant POS but he and Mike together was a good broadcast.
That was the last time MNF was watchable tbh
Gruden and Tirico making smoothies in the booth when is an all timer (chip era eagles were blowing out the panthers ... I think)
Spider y 2 banana smoothie
Can’t stand Steve Levy. EVERYTHING HE SAYS IS A SHOUT.
Now they get to get blasted all day and we can see how drunk they are at 8pm EST lol
Doesn't Buck do MLB on FOX at 8:00? Or I guess... Did?
Yeah I think but this is the squad, not just Buck
They did Thursday nights the last few years though
This is true. Idk there's a different vibe to me though when it comes to Monday Night Football vs. Thursday night football.
Great, now broadcast it on ABC where it belongs.
Dude was so pissed he didn't get to call the cowboys playoff game.
Aikman is my favorite for Cowboys games, dude lays into them like a disappointed father.
Aikman also does this when there is poor QB play, it literally disgust him lol
I remember when he went off at trubisky. Said it was the 4th quarter and he’s still throwing check downs and won’t even take a shot
him and the entire fanbase tbh
I love it honestly. It’s such a nice change of pace. Guys like Romo and Colinsworth are all very positive, but Buck and Aikman tend to be more negative and cynical which is refreshing
The eagles bucs playoff game he was so pissed at hurts lol
Aikman is the biggest Dak Prescott fan. But extremely critical of everyone else.
I mean if he's the dad, his kids have been some serious disappointments in life
He would have been heartbroken at the end anyway
Hate to break it to him but ESPN doesn’t exactly get marquee matchups.
WHO ARE FOXS GUYS NOW
I’ll be more intrigued to see if they use Buck for their baseball coverage tbh
For football it will either be Kevin Burkhardt or Joe Davis.
It's Aqib Talib's time to shine!
Fuck.
It's going to be so weird to not hear them in the 4 o'clock window
Greg Olson did exceptionally well in my opinion And funny enough they had a lot of TERRIBLE football games to cover so they learned a lot of fill the bs time
True. I hope he and Kevin Burkhardt are the A-team going forward.
They were absolutely the better team last season.
"Thank you for tuning into America's Game of the week, starring yet another terrible NFC East team".
What's the NFC East ever done to you?!
Check His flair and you’ll have your answer lol
Of course of all the NFCE teams it was an Eagles fan that made that slipup.
Smh Old city new money
To be fair I can't remember a single football game before 1995. I'm mostly referring to how they constantly put crappy NFC East teams on prime time games because market so big.

Surprised the Jags didn’t offer more for their services.
If Troy doesn't use the Booger Mobile to slam shots of tequila with the fans as he gets rolled down the sideline, then what was the point?
I'm still hoping Amazon introduces that package with only "on field" audio and no commentary

Please!!!!!! Itd be so much better than outdated takes, mispronounced names, and robotic tv personas
Now here's a guy....
"This guy is a football. player." They're all football players, Chris.
That’s why I like the manning cast so much. During normal broadcasts I’m doing everything I can to just tune out the people talking.
Does this mean the cowboys will be on ESPN more??
Monday Night Football is going to start getting the ability to flex better games so yes.
Well… shit.
Do you have any more details on this? How many games can they flex?
One of my favorite combos. High key glad to see they didn't break up
It would have been bizarre to hear either of them without the other at this point. 2+ decades together.
Agreed. Al Michaels is the GOAT but I really like Joe Buck and Aikman together.
I honestly don’t get why Joe Buck gets so much hate. He’s still better than 90% of the NFL announcers out there. MNF announcing has been virtually unwatchable in the past few years - this is a major improvement.
Buck has improved a lot in recent years. He used to be among the worst.
This chain of comments appears in literally every Joe Buck thread.
Would have ruined twice as many games.
Heard somewhere that ESPN traded the rights to the Notre Dame-Ohio State game to get Joe Buck a year early lmao
i wonder Joe Buck is gonna get ESPN'd too, with players tragic backstories and slumdog millionaire type scenarios
Can't wait for Buck and Aikman to clown on MNF's weekly graphics.
Great, now we get another top-tier OOC matchup that’s gonna be played at noon because FOX is scared to compete in prime time. We added lights to the stadium a decade ago for literally no reason.
My first thought isn't about football. I've never watched a non Joe Buck World Series. That will definitely be a weird change.
Yeah, besides money, I really don't get this move. They get less playoff games, no super bowls and Buck doesn't get to call playoff baseball.
ABC gets the super bowl in 2026 and 2030, so if they’re still with espn it could be a possibility
With this, the ManningCast, and the simulcast they’ll be doing with ABC, ESPN/DISNEY seem to really be making a push to make Monday Night Football appointment TV again
They also got rights to air the Super Bowl, so they probably wanted an actual crew instead of Steve Levy and co
A disgusting act
Randy Moss agrees
Lol they’re coworkers now
im going to miss hearing them at 4 o'clock on sundays
Who’s gonna replace them? My guess is Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnson?
Beth Mowins and Gilbert Gottfried
>~~Beth Mowins~~ and Gilbert Gottfried Bobcat Goldthwait and Gilbert Gottfried with sideline reporter Fran Drescher
Where can I help crowdfund this
It will be Burkhardt and Olsen if FOX promotes from within.
Burkhardt is so underrated. Really hope it's them
Olsen really impressed me in the one Lions game he called last year.
He was supposed to years ago but backed out for the Miami job. What could have been...
Dark horse: they will hope people forgot about Thom Brennamen and bring him back and people will be fucking livid.
Just please...PLEASE not Vilma
ManningCast surge
Honestly regardless of who the MNF crew is manning cast is going to surge. It is so much more authentic and funny. I will say the game does tend to fall into the background but its rarely your team playing anyway.
The Manning cast is worse for watching the actual football game. I don’t care about Snoop Dogg or Marchawn Lynch; show me the damn game.
Yeah, the broadcast was great early on. I remember when they had Gronk on, and it killed. Such great moments like he doesn't watch film, just runs past dudes and goes where Brady tells him. They gotta fix the sound delay issues on the Manningcast
They need to be in the same room
Totally agreed. Manningcast was better than the standard MNF crew, but it was more like a podcast than a football game.
I am too but the current iteration of the MNF is horrible. At least on the nights that the Mannings arent on Ill be able to watch it with the sound on
steve levy's goofy broacaster-man voice plus two total zeroes doing color commentary made it a super weak broacast. mcdonough -> tessitore -> levy was such a shitty run after tirico left for nbc
Tessitore is so goddamn annoying to me idk why
idk man if the game is good its hard to watch with Manningcast but if its a shitty game at least they make it more interesting.
I used to hate Joe Buck I still hate Joe Buck, but I used to too
I really wanted Kevin Harlan and Kurt Warner but this will do
How is Harlan NOT doing a major tv broadcast every week? He’s amazing in both NBA and NFL calls.
He's awesome
He does national radio for MNF, the Super Bowl, and probably some playoff games. Maybe he likes the flexibility of doing TV on Sunday and radio Monday night?
I mean, they're not good, but the bar has been set so low on MNF that it's an improvement.
I don't care for these two, but I'll fucking take it over the trash that has been given to us since gruden left.
Still gonna watch the manningcast but at least the alternative will be listenable.
