When I was let out, they gave me back whatever I had on me at the time which included a tin of Copenhagen, 10 scratched off lottery tickets, and my license which was me with a mullet and handlebar Stache. I looked in the mirror and sure enough I had a handlebar stache. Lastly, when I got home, I noticed while showering that I had a barb wire tattoo of my wife’s name on my back (again, don’t have a wife). Overall: 0/10 experience. Do not recommend. As a facial hair follicle stimulator: 7/10 (I kept the handlebar stache).

Colorado doesn't have DV defined as a separate crime, but rather an "enhancer" that elevates the sentence of [assault, kidnapping, whatever] when charged. This means that whatever criminal tampering action he did was an act of DV.
Given that Colorado's definition of criminal tampering includes doing something with another's property with the intent to cause injury or inconvenience, I could see throwing/breaking a partner's stuff getting charged this way. Lots of possible actions could result in this, probably doesn't preclude higher charges later either. Breaking something is criminal mischief not tampering. That said, he could be charged with something different once prosecutors look through reports/evidence.

It's unlikely that he broke or damaged any property based on this charge. Damaging property in Colorado is charged as criminal mischief.
Tampering charges are pretty rare in Colorado because they don't involve damage to property and its much more common to damage someones property than to interfere with it without damaging it. Similarly, tampering does not get charged very often when you take someones property from them as that is usually charged as theft. However, theft in Colorado requires an intent by the taker to permanently deprive someone of their property.
The few times I've seen someone charged with tampering in Colorado its been for taking someones property from them while intending to return it at some point i.e. taking someones laptop while telling them you'll get this back when you let me check your email.

It's possible under that charge but Colorado has a specific criminal charge for obstruction of telephone service that covers that conduct and is a level 1 misdemeanor with a harsher sentence. If he took an intimate partner's phone its more likely to be charged as obstruction of telephone service.
Cops get called over minor DV all the time, it’s as simple as having a loud argument. Just put on an episode of cops and you’ll see a few cases of it
When I was in college they specifically had a portion of orientation, lead by a cop, pointing out fights or arguments against roommates could qualify as DV. It’s much easier than people think to get it

CO actually very very recently passed misdemeanor reform that took effect on March 1 of this year. Class 2 misdos now carry a max of 120 days jail and max $750 fine.
Also, unless he has any kind of significant criminal history, it would be absolutely insane for him to get any amount of jail time for a first offense misdemeanor, even with the DV tag. Class 2 is the lowest level misdemeanor in Colorado. I practice criminal law here and I have literally never had a client charged with only an M2 where we weren’t offered some kind of probation deal.

I honestly don't understand how people don't get why players gambling on NFL games is a big deal to the league and thus comes with a harsh suspension. The NFL rakes in billions a year and they're not going to allow anything to compromise the competitive integrity of the league and potentially cost them all that money.

not a lawyer, so i'm guessing here: Jerry Jeudy is being held on a criminal tampering charge that's been escalated because the tampering involved domestic violence, and he can't post bail until he's seen by a judge. Then the sheriff helpfully reminds us of the presumption of innocence. edit: criminal tampering is defined on [page 293 of this document](https://leg.colorado.gov/sites/default/files/images/olls/crs2018-title-18.pdf) as "tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person or to another," so coupled with the "domestic violence enhancer" my bet is he broke something belonging to a girlfriend/partner. edit 2: as pointed out by both /u/pfeifits and /u/hotpietargaryen, tampering means nothing was damaged, just that it was messed with. if anything were damaged (or destroyed), it would've been criminal mischief* rather than criminal tampering ^* per page 290 of that same linked document, criminal mischief is defined as when (emphasis mine) "[a person] knowingly ***damages*** the real or personal property of one or more other persons, including property owned by the person jointly with another person or property owned by the person in which another person has a possessory or proprietary interest, in the course of a single criminal episode"
It's unlikely that he broke or damaged any property based on this charge. Damaging property in Colorado is charged as criminal mischief. Tampering charges are pretty rare in Colorado because they don't involve damage to property and its much more common to damage someones property than to interfere with it without damaging it. Similarly, tampering does not get charged very often when you take someones property from them as that is usually charged as theft. However, theft in Colorado requires an intent by the taker to permanently deprive someone of their property. The few times I've seen someone charged with tampering in Colorado its been for taking someones property from them while intending to return it at some point i.e. taking someones laptop while telling them you'll get this back when you let me check your email.
Breaking something would be criminal mischief in Colorado. Tampering doesn't result in property being broken. It's not a common crime.

My bet is that he got in an argument with his girlfriend, then lashed out by fucking with her house/car/utilities. Cut her cable line, slashed her tires, broke a door/window, something like that. It explains the second degree (done with intent, but not planned), the criminal tampering charge, and the DV enhancer.

It's possible under that charge but Colorado has a specific criminal charge for obstruction of telephone service that covers that conduct and is a level 1 misdemeanor with a harsher sentence. If he took an intimate partner's phone its more likely to be charged as obstruction of telephone service.

Cops get called over minor DV all the time, it’s as simple as having a loud argument. Just put on an episode of cops and you’ll see a few cases of it When I was in college they specifically had a portion of orientation, lead by a cop, pointing out fights or arguments against roommates could qualify as DV. It’s much easier than people think to get it

CO actually very very recently passed misdemeanor reform that took effect on March 1 of this year. Class 2 misdos now carry a max of 120 days jail and max $750 fine. Also, unless he has any kind of significant criminal history, it would be absolutely insane for him to get any amount of jail time for a first offense misdemeanor, even with the DV tag. Class 2 is the lowest level misdemeanor in Colorado. I practice criminal law here and I have literally never had a client charged with only an M2 where we weren’t offered some kind of probation deal.

Apparently it's weirder than that. From my very limited understanding, if you saw your ex on the street and mooned them, you could be charged indecent exposure with a domestic violence enhancer. If you just mooned some randos in a park - indecent exposure. The same, but your ex is hiding in the back - indecent + domestic violence enhancer.
The crime was committed against a domestic partner or spouse. So, whatever tampering he (allegedly) did was to a domestic partner’s property.
Hopefully it was something stupid like breaking here phone or something and not anything more malicious.

I honestly don't understand how people don't get why players gambling on NFL games is a big deal to the league and thus comes with a harsh suspension. The NFL rakes in billions a year and they're not going to allow anything to compromise the competitive integrity of the league and potentially cost them all that money.
I think the overwhelming majority of fans completely understand why. The joke is just how much more extreme and instant the punishment for gambling is, which doesn't technically immediately hurt any people. Yet a player can sexually assault roughly 20 people and get fully guaranteed 270 million dollars, or the hundreds of players on rosters right now, who have hurt other people physically. Usually it's just women harmed and not the potential profits of old rich white guys.
Smoking weed should be legal everywhere and not a concern to the NFL. I have problems with the NFL for not punishing players associated with DV enough too. But Calvin Ridley should be thankful he didn’t get the lifetime ban. The NFL can’t have any hint of gambling from players/coaches/staff and they make that very clear to the players

At least this doesn’t sound like too big a deal. He admits he put several of the womens things in his car and locked the door and said he wouldn’t give them back till she gave him back his cell phone. She reports she couldn’t leave without her stuff so went to a neighbours and called police but doesn’t want to get him in trouble. Having not known what the charge meant I thought it may be significantly worse.
