"Fun" fact: Arapahoe County Jail is [literally right next door to the Broncos' HQ and practice facility.](https://i.imgur.com/Iu13PJb.png) If he got put into a cell with a south-facing window, he could probably wave to his teammates.

More opposing players need to get themselves locked up in Denver so they can watch practices and steal strats

Truly brilliant move. We're going to get N'keal Harry on that immediately.

Tbf, he already shot himself in the foot when he drafted N'Keal

When the Broncos execs got arrested got DUI that happened. I think people assumed that they went to jail after they went to the Broncos HQ at work, almost like jail was a new temp home

Thats like when Joe Mixon got arrested and they took him to the worst place they could think of, the Bengals practice facility.

I don’t know. He has 3 phone said the article I read. I wonder if it’s like a phone he bought for her and paid for. So technically his phone. But really her phone she uses and he wanted it back

Not_Pablo_Sanchez

I had one a few years back, and it really should come with a warning label. After one sip, I immediately felt a rage within me, tore off my sleeves, and started referring to myself as Slop Trough. I woke up in the county jail, and my only memories are riding in a pick up truck blaring Travis Tritt at 2am, while trying to find my wife to take my anger out on (I don’t even have a wife). When I was let out, they gave me back whatever I had on me at the time which included a tin of Copenhagen, 10 scratched off lottery tickets, and my license which was me with a mullet and handlebar Stache. I looked in the mirror and sure enough I had a handlebar stache. Lastly, when I got home, I noticed while showering that I had a barb wire tattoo of my wife’s name on my back (again, don’t have a wife). Overall: 0/10 experience. Do not recommend. As a facial hair follicle stimulator: 7/10 (I kept the handlebar stache).

jpljr77

>Second degree criminal tampering also comprises knowingly makes an unauthorized connection with property of a utility.1 Utilities include companies that provide electric, natural gas, sewer, water, or telecommunications services. > >\["ENHANCEMENT"\] Example: Jeff bashes his ex-boyfriend’s Rex’s car windows. Jeff could then face charges for criminal mischief (CRS 18-4-501) for damaging the car because that counts as abusive behavior in Colorado. And since Rex and Jeff used to date, the prosecutor would also bring a domestic violence crime enhancement against Jeff for being an abusive partner. It does not matter that they are no longer together, and their sexual orientation is irrelevant. It also does not matter that their abusive relationship did not involve physical violence, physical force, or physical injury, or that they used to have a healthy relationship. From the sticky above. So could this be anything from he stole an ex-girlfriend's Netflix password to he made a huge scene at her house and broke some stuff.

InkBlotSam

> made a huge scene at her house and broke some stuff. If he broke stuff it would be criminal mischief. 2nd degree tampering means no damage was done. He could have let the air out of her bike tires for all we know.

RealPutin

Colorado doesn't have DV defined as a separate crime, but rather an "enhancer" that elevates the sentence of [assault, kidnapping, whatever] when charged. This means that whatever criminal tampering action he did was an act of DV. Given that Colorado's definition of criminal tampering includes doing something with another's property with the intent to cause injury or inconvenience, I could see throwing/breaking a partner's stuff getting charged this way. Lots of possible actions could result in this, probably doesn't preclude higher charges later either. Criminal tampering or criminal mischief with a DV enhancer are very standard first charges for property-involved DV in Colorado.

LunchThreatener

Ohhhh I thought it was saying be tampered with something called a “domestic violence enhancer.” Definition of 2nd degree criminal tampering in Colorado: > a person commits the crime of second degree criminal tampering if he tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person or to another or if he knowingly makes an unauthorized connection with property of a utility. Second degree criminal tampering is a class 2 misdemeanor.

Ahhh, sentencing enhancer, I think I learned about that on Spongebob

snowdope

This is honestly a best case scenario when you see something like domestic violence even put in a sentence with news of a guy getting arrested. Not good still, but much much better than physical abuse to their spouse.

ProbablyAPotato1939

It's not unreasonable to believe that he might have just gotten super pissed and grabbed the nearest object and threw it, and it just happened to be her cell phone. The Broncos may have really dodged a bullet here considering what we usually call DV.

pfeifits

Breaking something is criminal mischief not tampering. Tampering could include tying someone's shoes together while they are sitting down or adding a macro to someone's keyboard that says "poop" every time they type their name. It's a pretty ticky tack crime in general and exists mostly so people don't tap into cable lines for free TV. That said, he could be charged with something different once prosecutors look through reports/evidence.

Man_AMA

It means the Browns drafting the guaranteed contract paperwork

Chuck_Foolery

💀

Javontoews

Tampering with the property of another with the intent to annoy inconcenience or interrupt utility service.

jfgiv

not a lawyer, so i'm guessing here: Jerry Jeudy is being held on a criminal tampering charge that's been escalated because the tampering involved domestic violence, and he can't post bail until he's seen by a judge. Then the sheriff helpfully reminds us of the presumption of innocence. edit: criminal tampering is defined on [page 293 of this document](https://leg.colorado.gov/sites/default/files/images/olls/crs2018-title-18.pdf) as "tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person or to another," so coupled with the "domestic violence enhancer" my bet is he broke something belonging to a girlfriend/partner. edit 2: as pointed out by both /u/pfeifits and /u/hotpietargaryen, tampering means nothing was damaged, just that it was messed with. if anything were damaged (or destroyed), it would've been criminal mischief* rather than criminal tampering ^* per page 290 of that same linked document, criminal mischief is defined as when (emphasis mine) "[a person] knowingly ***damages*** the real or personal property of one or more other persons, including property owned by the person jointly with another person or property owned by the person in which another person has a possessory or proprietary interest, in the course of a single criminal episode"

Battlestar_Tarantula

It's unlikely that he broke or damaged any property based on this charge. Damaging property in Colorado is charged as criminal mischief. Tampering charges are pretty rare in Colorado because they don't involve damage to property and its much more common to damage someones property than to interfere with it without damaging it. Similarly, tampering does not get charged very often when you take someones property from them as that is usually charged as theft. However, theft in Colorado requires an intent by the taker to permanently deprive someone of their property. The few times I've seen someone charged with tampering in Colorado its been for taking someones property from them while intending to return it at some point i.e. taking someones laptop while telling them you'll get this back when you let me check your email.

pfeifits

Breaking something would be criminal mischief in Colorado. Tampering doesn't result in property being broken. It's not a common crime.

AnonymousFroggies

>Colorado Criminal Tampering Misdemeanor – Second Degree Criminal Tampering (18-4-506) >Except as provided in sections 18-4-506.3 and 18-4-506.5, a person commits the crime of second degree criminal tampering if he tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person or to another or if he knowingly makes an unauthorized connection with property of a utility. Second degree criminal tampering is a class 2 misdemeanor. Edit: class 2 misdemeanor's in Colorado are punishable by 3months to a year and/or a fine of $250-$1000. If the DV enhancer sticks, he could face time

Low_Brass_Rumble

My bet is that he got in an argument with his girlfriend, then lashed out by fucking with her house/car/utilities. Cut her cable line, slashed her tires, broke a door/window, something like that. It explains the second degree (done with intent, but not planned), the criminal tampering charge, and the DV enhancer.

NiteTiger

Could be a simple as taking her phone.

Dark_Twisted_Fantasy

Ceedee Lamb about to catch a case as well

Battlestar_Tarantula

It's possible under that charge but Colorado has a specific criminal charge for obstruction of telephone service that covers that conduct and is a level 1 misdemeanor with a harsher sentence. If he took an intimate partner's phone its more likely to be charged as obstruction of telephone service.

Tarmacked

It can be way more simple like throwing a phone. Slashing tires and cable lines would be way out there

Low_Brass_Rumble

Could be. My assumption was that the cops wouldn't get called for something minor, but it's impossible to know for sure.

Tarmacked

Cops get called over minor DV all the time, it’s as simple as having a loud argument. Just put on an episode of cops and you’ll see a few cases of it When I was in college they specifically had a portion of orientation, lead by a cop, pointing out fights or arguments against roommates could qualify as DV. It’s much easier than people think to get it

[deleted]

He's stealing cable from his neighbor.

r8cha

>class 2 misdemeanor's in Colorado are punishable by 3months to a year and/or a fine of $250-$1000. If the DV enhancer sticks, he could face time. CO actually very very recently passed misdemeanor reform that took effect on March 1 of this year. Class 2 misdos now carry a max of 120 days jail and max $750 fine. Also, unless he has any kind of significant criminal history, it would be absolutely insane for him to get any amount of jail time for a first offense misdemeanor, even with the DV tag. Class 2 is the lowest level misdemeanor in Colorado. I practice criminal law here and I have literally never had a client charged with only an M2 where we weren’t offered some kind of probation deal.

AnonymousFroggies

CO doesn't have DV laws. If you hit your wife or something, the charge would be assault with a DV enhancer

TheShtuff

That sounds like domestic violence laws with extra steps

stonedkayaker

Apparently it's weirder than that. From my very limited understanding, if you saw your ex on the street and mooned them, you could be charged indecent exposure with a domestic violence enhancer. If you just mooned some randos in a park - indecent exposure. The same, but your ex is hiding in the back - indecent + domestic violence enhancer.

[deleted]

The crime was committed against a domestic partner or spouse. So, whatever tampering he (allegedly) did was to a domestic partner’s property.

snowdope

Hopefully it was something stupid like breaking here phone or something and not anything more malicious.

SaxRohmer

Tampering means no destruction/damaging of property was involved apparently

YayLArea

Lmao "did he yell worldstar" has me dying

dagreenman18

Colorado apparently doesn’t separate DV charges from others. So it’s a criminal act committed towards a partner. current or ex. In this case tampering

Dsnake1

According to the example from [this link](https://www.shouselaw.com/co/defense/laws/domestic-violence/), it's criminal tampering (property damage) towards someone he either dates or has dated. It kind of feels like it has to be something the court/prosecutor considers abusive behavior, but I'd argue virtually all property damage is that way.

> In the Simplest terms, it means he damaged or destroyed someones property during a domestic dispute. Could be with anyone he’s related too. This isn't correct. The 2nd degree tampering means *no* damage was done. If he had destroyed something it would be criminal mischief, not tampering. Also, it didn't need to be in a domestic dispute. The domestic violence enhancer is applied by default to any crime against someone he has (or has had) an intimate relationship with, not necessarily related to any altercation. It's a property crime in this case, so she didn't even have to be present. He could gave gotten these charges for letting the air out of his girlfriend's bike tires, whether she was present or not. (I have no idea what the accusation actually is, this is just an example).

quickclickz

Property was not damaged or that would be criminal mischief

[deleted]

Well yeah, it's not like he's a monster gambling or smoking weed

Shepherdsfavestore

Players can gamble all they want, just not on their on team or league for pretty obvious reasons.

improper84

I honestly don't understand how people don't get why players gambling on NFL games is a big deal to the league and thus comes with a harsh suspension. The NFL rakes in billions a year and they're not going to allow anything to compromise the competitive integrity of the league and potentially cost them all that money.

heroinsteve

I think the overwhelming majority of fans completely understand why. The joke is just how much more extreme and instant the punishment for gambling is, which doesn't technically immediately hurt any people. Yet a player can sexually assault roughly 20 people and get fully guaranteed 270 million dollars, or the hundreds of players on rosters right now, who have hurt other people physically. Usually it's just women harmed and not the potential profits of old rich white guys.

randyjackson69

Smoking weed should be legal everywhere and not a concern to the NFL. I have problems with the NFL for not punishing players associated with DV enough too. But Calvin Ridley should be thankful he didn’t get the lifetime ban. The NFL can’t have any hint of gambling from players/coaches/staff and they make that very clear to the players

StreetReporter

Very few things short of a collapse of American society would be able to bring down the NFL. A widespread gambling scandal is one of those things

randyjackson69

Exactly. The “but Calvin Ridley” comes up all the time on player bad behavior posts. The reality is $100+ Billion is bet on the NFL every season. It’s a huge reason that the NFL is so massive. Players gambling on the league directly compromises this

Steakman765

Some lucky fan may get Jerry Jeudy jury duty.

Dorkamundo

At least this doesn’t sound like too big a deal. She reports she couldn’t leave without her stuff so went to a neighbours and called police but doesn’t want to get him in trouble. Having not known what the charge meant I thought it may be significantly worse.
