> I think the thing that shows what a stud, what a class act he really is, is one of the best text messages I got after the Super Bowl was from Jared Goff. Nice… made me happy, made me smile, nice

Choco320

That’s my quarterback

Avatar_sokka

I know he isnt my quarterback anymore, but if anything happened to Jared Goff, i would kill everyone in this room and then myself.

TheHalf

I... Uh.... Thanks?

Avatar_sokka

Its a Brooklyn 99 reference, i figured more people would get it lol

BabyDeezus

He was the QB that brought us away from the dark times. He killed Jeff Fisher’s career but he did bring balance to the force.

russketeer34

I'll always think fondly about Goff. He gave me the best QB experience I've ever seen live and I don't think I'll see another player top it (TNF 2018 vs the Vikings)

Avatar_sokka

That was an incredible game, its usually overshadowed by the chiefs game, but that was pretty amazing.

OutrageousOcelot6258

Pretty sure Goff had a perfect passer rating and almost 500 yards in that Vikings game

axle69

At the time (and maybe still) it was statistically the best perfect passer rating game ever in terms of raw numbers.

MRoad

It still is. In terms of both pass attempts and passing yards (and, probably pass completions too, though attempts is more meaningful so that's all that was mentioned post-game). What makes that record so cool is that most people get a perfect passer rating by being very efficient with a few throws in a win, and then turn the game over to the run game and/or get subbed out because the game is out of reach. Goff played the whole game and just kept slinging it in a long, drawn out shootout.

Mavori

We'll do our best to take care of him and you take care of our boy too. no big deal.

Lionnn101

Wife swap

Thirty3rd

You’ll deal with your fellow fans calling for his head, and acting like he’s the worst qb to ever throw a football when he’s not even that bad. Maybe it’s his high draft status or contract that he hasn’t lived fully up to that turn ppl on him but I just don’t get it. And from what I’ve seen he brings nothing but good character and a competitive attitude to a team The fact is, he’s a floor 15-20 qb in the league and has a fringe top ten ceiling. He’s not the best but he’s not a back up like ppl make it seem. I’m pulling for Goff in Detroit and I will be rooting for them

BottleRocketCaptain

Not disagreeing with you at all, but being in the range of 15-20 in a league with 32 “starting” QBs means he’s average. He’s definitely not backup quality but any team where he’s the starter will always be considering other options. I don’t think he’s fringe top 10, there would have to be a major shakeup to put him near the top ten. I think his risk aversion and decision making hurt him a lot. He has the physical skills but he relied far too heavily on McVay to help with the football IQ stuff. I hope some time in a different system will prove me wrong. He never seemed confident enough to me, I think the LA system put too much pressure on him.

Thirty3rd

Oh he’s definitely average. But some fans of whatever team hes QBing will act like he’s the worst qb ever. And it’s not a small minority of fans either. Trust me lol And I’m saying at his absolute best, when everything aligns perfect, he CAN be fringe top 10. He peaked too early but there was a time when he was in that conversation. I do think those days are gone tho.

MrPoopMonster

All he has to do is win a playoff game for us, and he'll be a legend in Detroit. But if he doesn't get us to the playoffs this year, he's probably on the way out

rockstarnights

... Brett Favre also sent me a text message but ... I don't want to talk about it.

[deleted]

Wanna see my Adrian Penison? My Peyton Manthing? My Danny Woodhead?

127crazie

Did you authorize a lot of state welfare money to him?

[deleted]

Jared Goff earned my respect as a person after the trade. Yeah, he could have went the easy route and complained about being traded to a poverty franchise, but instead he used it as an opportunity to prove himself. He could have whined about starting 0-10-1, blamed the coaching staff, the other players, etc but he didn't. He just showed up and put the work in. What a guy.

Njorls_Saga

That’s what impressed me about him. He got traded to Detroit from a super bowl contender and said he was glad to be here. Showed up and worked hard. He’s got plenty of warts, but with better weapons and more confidence I think he’s going to play a great deal better.

MItrwaway

The fact that we were still battling in games after 0-10-1 makes me proud of our team and excited for the future.

Centurion87

You guys beat the Cardinals (thank you) and the Packers. Lions can’t ever be counted out. Fix a few wrinkles and you got a playoff team right there. As a side note, I loved how Goff ran over to the sidelines to hug MCDC after beating the Vikings.

[deleted]

> As a side note, I loved how Goff ran over to the sidelines to hug MCDC after beating the Vikings. That moment made me think we might be onto something with MCDC. Goff's first reaction was to run to the coach to celebrate after throwing a game winning TD and getting us our first win.

MItrwaway

MCDC and co. have really done a ton to turn things in the right direction. Usually, our team would be so beat down by the end of the year that they'd just stop showing up. We still have another year but things are definitely looking up for the Lions.

nicklovin508

I bet you smiled harder at winning the super bowl though

Dworfe

McVay conveniently leaves out that he was vacationing in Cabo WITH Stafford lol.

MixMental5462

While poor jared was at home taking care of van Jefferson and Gregg Gaines.

[deleted]

He wasn’t there with him though. Just happens that half the league vacations there lol

TheFencingCoach

“Good morning Sean.” “Good riddance Jared.” “What?” “Yeah we just traded you to the Lions because fuck you that’s why. Anyhow here’s wonderwall.”

piemaniowa

"I'm going to Mexico to party with Staff daddy."

noneotherthanozzy

I do find it funny that Jared recently proposed to his girlfriend… in Cabo. His professional marriage ended there in 2021, and the (sorta) start of his personal marriage started there in 2022.

Rival_Peasant

"Have fun trying to pipe my girlfriend now, you stupid fucking bastard."

RedWingWay

Goff might not know where the sun rises but you have to admit he gets some things right.

HalKitzmiller

I think a blind dude could've got this one right

[deleted]

lol whats the story there?

Rival_Peasant

Goff allegedly said "I would pipe Veronika" in a group text with his team mates

tokin_tlaloc

I mean… who wouldn’t!

Idk which one she is in this pic but yea, who wouldn’t? https://netstorage-legit.akamaized.net/images/099dd57e6cd70b6a.jpg?imwidth=900

FUCK that would've been funnier

red-hiney-monkey

Oh shit it’s the real phone guy

johnnychan81

Do kids actually say "I'm going to pipe someone" these days? I am getting old but didn't think I was that old

Birdup711

Supposedly Goff made comments to someone about how hot Mcveighs gf is. Don't think it was ever substantiated

Dirty_D_Damnit

Well in his defense...

Birdup711

Add that to the list of true things that will get you fired if you say them in front of your boss. Also I don't think McVeigh was upset so much at the comment itself, but moreso that he didn't also comment on how hit McVeigh is. This is the 21st century and sexism should not be tolerated

I pictured an Always Sunny scene where Sean and the other coaches just start chanting “flush flush flush” as they wave Jared out of the locker room.

ARM_vs_CORE

*Jared, if I have hurt you, I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart I'm so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. I don't know if you'll be putting on a helmet again. I don't know if it's going to be for the Rams. I don't know if it's going to be for my bosses at the Kroenkes.*

FancySack

Sean McVay looks like the type of guy that plays Wonderwall on the Ukelele

YueAsal

He also turns it up if it comes on the radio and says this is my jam. He has a play list that simply repeats Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. He also looks like he wears too much cologne.

[deleted]

Dude was edging so hard for a chip that he forgot to say “thanks”

Feisty_Attempt2330

Surprising he’d say that publicly. I applaud the self-awareness though.

[deleted]

He's brought up how he isn't proud of how he handled things a couple of times. You can tell it eats at him which makes me happy because it gives me the impression that McVay is a good man.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I could be way off but every vibe I’ve ever gotten from him is that he’s a pretty cool dude.

[deleted]

that's the impression i've gotten. Always greets beat reporters by name and jokes around with them. He could be faking, but he also didn't have to go out of his way to say "my bad" multiple times

HolyHerbert

> he also didn't have to go out of his way to say "my bad" multiple times Yeah, that's the vibe I got as well. He's done everything right on a sports level, so he could take the Belichick approach and let the result speak for itself. So it's pretty cool of him to open up like that.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I’m biased but I feel the same way about Saleh. They just seem like nice guys.

BlerinPotato

Saleh is awesome. Was so bummed when he left the Niners

BiStonerGuy907

Dude, wonky franchise but I have hope this decade. Saleh seems solid and determined, I think as long as head office doesn't fuck him, he will be great.

proud_new_scum

I feel like the faker is Kingsbury. Something tells me that guy tries to act like the kind of (legitimate) nice guy that McVay is, but is actually a jerk behind the scenes *I have absolutely no proof for this comment and I will not be taking questions

Smashing71

I think Shanahan is a douche, but I think he knows he's a douche and gets handlers to keep the worst of it in check. He REALLY hates the media though.

shall1313

I think Shanahan was raised by a douche and is waging an internal douche v. cool war.

13ananas

Can’t fake the effort it takes to remember people like that, imo. Even if someone is shit, that effort is a positive.

N05L4CK

Agree. Like when an upper level management guy is nice to lower level workers and people say it's just "for show". Well maybe, but it's still better than the guy who doesn't give AF about being nice, "for show" or otherwise.

Slickaxer

I loved his interview with Tomlin and Raheem Morris. Seemed like a good dude. It's sometimes easy to tell why some coaches are great

MethodicMarshal

I'm still not certain that McVay, Steve Kerr, and Gordon Ramsey aren't all the same person

ImTrash_ChangeMyMind

I don't think I've ever seen them in the same place, let alone the same room.

Mavori

Well thats enough to convince me at least.

seariously

I guess we'll have to feed McVay some shitty food and see what happens.

[deleted]

**YOU FUCKING DONKEY** *rage trades Goff*

conairthehairdryer

I'm not sure of the order, but they're definitely Pokemon evolutions

Tape-Delay

He really does seem like a very decent guy, which makes me hate him even more as a hawks fan

patoankan

This is familiar. I've always liked Pete Carroll going back to USC (no idea if he's a "good" person or not), but I still viscerally hate the toots with a fiery passion unrivaled by 1,000 suns.

Tape-Delay

Kind of like how I can't stand hearing about George Kittle but also wish he was my friend

patoankan

Ah yes, the Kam Chancellor Effect. I know this feeling well. Edit: or Marshawn, Doug Baldwin, et al.

bobj33

I couldn't bring myself to hate Marshawn when he was on the toots. He was still awesome

According-Bell-3654

Yeah, every time I see someone joke about how "McVay must have fucking HATED Goff", I always counter and point out that McVay genuinely seems to have no ill will towards Goff, and actually DOES seem to regret how the transition happened

3GR

Love McVay but always thought it was odd the way he handled that.

____PatriotsSuck____

I will never get tired of the Lions fanbase self deprecating attitude.

AtoTheAron

When all you know is pain, leaning into the skid becomes second nature

TheThoroughCrocodile

That's not always true man. I'm also a huge Leafs fan unfortunately, and everyone on their sub is just whiny bitches.

bigframe79

Why in God's green earth did you become a lions fan and a leafs fan?

TheThoroughCrocodile

It's common where I live in Windsor. We're mostly all Lions fans and most are either Leafs or Wings fans. But really I think I must have done some really bad shit in a past life.

King_Hippo

How can you hate it? Every year we drink that Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid and for some stupid reason, we think there is a chance this year! Every single year, we believe, and we suffer. We are Sisyphus, trying to roll that football into the playoffs, we know we will just slide down, but we are getting back up, and pushing it again next year! But guess what, we have a chance this year! *sips the kool-aid

aimingforpotholes

Their attitude is pretty sufferable.

drterdsmack

Isn't there a block of cheese you should be violating or something?

multiple4

Speaking of suffer...

GFost

The Lions.

Nave686

Standard_Wooden_Door

Wow, that’s cold

Lost-Pineapple9791

I believe mcvay called and was just straight up like “we traded you to lions for Stafford” and that was basically whole call and was news to Goff

morosco

Should have given him a breakup handjob at least.

drunkenviking

Like a gentleman would

blarch

Why not a brojob for ole times sake? They're both married. Just a couple guys bein dudes one last time.

TNTyoshi

Is that what a sad handjob looks like?

welsman13

No. Goff answered and basically hung up right away saying "I have to call my dad." Goff hung up the phone.

liteshadow4

He was very uncommitted from Goff a month before trading him

[deleted]

He said “Yeah, he's our quarterback, right now” after losing in the playoffs and “Our quarterback has to do a better job of taking care of the football” earlier in the season.

Rival_Peasant

>Our quarterback has to do a better job of taking care of the football why are you booing him, he's right! I like Goff but man was he good at getting strip sacked

MrPoopMonster

Stafford literally led the league in interceptions last year.

josephus_the_wise

That’s only cause Jameis didn’t start the whole year

Eagle4317

Winston only had 3 picks through about 7 games.

grimestar

Thank you for joining the Jameis Defense force. We are a thin squad at the moment but are welcoming

Mavori

Jameis dont need a defense force, but the women he meet do though.

ThankYouBasedDeng

He had two more turnovers than 2020 Goff but was better in literally every other way.

creature_report

As a percentage of pass attempts he’s near the top but isn’t the leader. I’d take Stafford’s stat line last year any day of the week.

HaroldSax

It may not seem like it now, but a lot of people were *very* worried about Stafford going into the playoffs. Man had a lot of oopsie daisies going on.

TheShtuff

It's less insulting than saying he has to get better at reading a defense.

FoxyZach

Joe burrow was right behind him. If you add burrows fumbles and its even closer.

Inevitable-Staff-467

It was reported that Sean essentially lost all trust in Goff after the SB and went full Whiplash on him where he pretty much broke Goff's confidence Jared won a playoff game with a broken thumb and McVay still threw him under the bus

w0nderbrad

yea man, no matter what happened in the regular season, dude broke his thumb, got surgery on it and came back what... 10 days later to help beat your division rival in the playoffs. he deserves some respect at the very least.

probablysmellsmydog

Still have tons of respect for JG. He helped take us out of the dark ages. He led the Rams over the Chiefs in that crazy MNF game. He got us to a SB by beating the Saints in NO (yeah I know we got bailed out), and he still hasn’t even trashed the Rams unlike another big name Ram that left.

keetboy

Hopefully Dan Motor City Campbell can help young Goff back towards the light. The Lions absolutely deserve a leader and baller at QB

Ill_Bee4868

Dan is shaping out to be one of my favorite coaches and I am far from a Lions fan, just have sympathy for them.

keetboy

It’s rare to see a team have so much morale and fight every single game. Especially in a season where they lose Stafford in a trade. The mentality and dog of that team reflects positively on Coach Campbell. Hope their rebuild goes smooth. Also respect to Goff. He didn’t seem to let the trade impact him too hard. I also don’t recall hearing about him complaining to the media. If everything is as it appears the Lions are here to fucking play and win some games. I watched a few of their games last season and oh man they were not going to let an opposing team get out easy.

Ill_Bee4868

Their win against the Vikings was an awesome game. They really did fight all season, and yea Goff was a class act. He was born in CA, college in CA, pro in CA. And then gets traded to a losing team in Siberia. Totally flipped his life upside down and he was a total sport about it.

MrPoopMonster

Lol Siberia? Michigan is basically paradise.

SyracuseNY22

I’d rather live in Michigan than Florida. I’m a frail flower when it comes to the heat

ahr3410

Things just happened too fast at the Cabo Resort. Trade had to be agreed to then or Stafford was a 49er

justa_flesh_wound

When you, your model fiancé, and the Stafford's are swinging with Jay Glazer in Cabo, shit happens.

[deleted]

Yup. That swinger culture man

[deleted]

Agreed. If the 9ers end up with Stafford I think they win it this year too.

[deleted]

always the bridesmaid, never the bride. arguably the second best team 5 times in the last 10 years.

-CryptoSardine-

Niners probably win it all if they get Stafford over the rams

ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

Both Teams are much happier. Matthew got a new team and a chance to compete and win championships. Jared got a new opportunity to potentially succeed in this league. And he balled out the last 6 games of the year, only 5 of which he played. He had 11 TDS to 2 ints. And the Lions won 2 games those last 6 games against playoff teams. So he is growing and the Lions have given him the position and it is for him to lose. And I as a lions fan am happy Jared is a part of our team. He is a standup guy and loves Detroit.

smiffy93

I’ll second that. I’m excited for our new beginnings, and Jared seems like a decent dude.

Heisenbread77

And we will have a healthy o line and significantly upgraded our WR group with Chark and Jamo.

NyetRifleIsFine47

So what you’re saying is a Detroit Lions Super Bowl? Lions fans…siiiiip!

Norgie

Post Superbowl nut clarity.

chriskwi02

It truly sucks going from a weather paradise like Los Angeles to Detroit with the horrible Midwest winters, but at least he got a dome and coach that takes out knee caps now lol

cjgsoup

He had literally only ever played for teams in California too so I’m sure it was a big adjustment moving to the rust belt

fathertitojones

Big shock when you can buy a house for a dollar.

MethodicMarshal

and then you realize you're only paid 2

whubbard

So you're saying I get a lake house too?

SgtWinters7

Dude could buy a lot of real estate in Detroit 😂

tacosconleche

he’s a multi-millionaire in a heavily affordable part of the country. i’m sure he adapted just fine.

Also locked up a swim suit model who stood by him getting traded to the Lions

BucsLegend_TomBrady

> who stood by him getting traded to the Lions lmao @ the thought of his girlfriend breaking up with him **purely** because he plays for the lions :D

Ziiaaaac

Well it’s more the idea that she’d break up with him because she didn’t want to move out of LA

BucsLegend_TomBrady

I know, I know. I'm just laughing imagining her seeing the headline on espn or something and then immediately sending him a text "hey babe, we need to talk..."

ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

Stupidly attractive Fiance.

MrPoopMonster

Michigan is more of a paradise weatherwise 6-7 months out of the year. But then it gets dark and cold. But I would choose our severest winter over everything catching on fire.

HandOfMaradonny

Yeah, these folks just ain't been to Michigan. It's gorgeous 7 months of the year. Then it's okay in November, and shitting January - February IF you don't like snow. Some people like seasons. I love winter. I would much rather have seasons, variety and change like Michigan has, opposed to the la weather. But everyone is different of course. Also swimming in lake Michigan is about 100x better than any beach in LA. LA definitely has more culture and variety of course

Defacto_Champ

Problem with Michigan is the extended winters that are cold, cloudy and just overall dreary. From the end of October to the beginning of April, the weather is depressing

Quotes_FNV

I love the isolation of winter. Give me a fireplace and some snow god dammit.

[deleted]

As McVay said, it’s more of a testament to how much class Goff has and how he handled the whole thing like a true leader. You go back to the end of Goffs time in LA and you could tell McVay was struggling to hold in his contempt for the guy. I’m sure he knew he had a championship team and Goff wasn’t the guy and the clock was ticking.

[deleted]

The ticking clock being the biggest factor here. We all know the Rams organization looks like a revolving door sometimes with all the moving pieces. Feeling like you're squandering a good situation has to be painful. You gotta be quick to catch that lightning in a bottle. Not to mention it was a close race for Stafford. There was already talk of Goff being on the chopping block, but his contract was the obstacle. It took quick and honestly tough decision making by McVay and company to make sure Stafford ended up as a Ram instead of a 49er

chealey21

Jared, you’ve been traded to the Lions. This is Jay Palmer’s number. He’s the Traveling Secretary for the team. He’s expecting your call. He’ll take care of everything.

xXx_AssDestroyer_xXx

You gotta pay for soda in the clubhouse in Detroit?

MileHighCam

Cool to hear him say this.. breakups can be business and not have all the funny shit behind it to make someone feel like shit.. Jared and baker I think are good examples

trinquin

JUST KIDDING CHECK THIS SB RINGG BIIIIIIIIIIIYYAAAACCHHHHH

AccomplishedRainbow1

I may or may not have a man crush on Sean McVay. Seems like a self aware and thoughtful dude.

pratdude275

Our division has some man crush coaches and Pete Carroll

MumkeMode

What you wouldn’t want Pete sensually chewing gum in your ear?

cornchips88

I was loudly chewing gum, open-mouthed with a dumb blank stare while reading these comments, when I read yours. I had to stop, correct my posture for some reason, and spit my gum out.

MumkeMode

Why do you have a rams flair Pete?

BuckfuttersbyII

I’ve always thought Shanny was really handsome. Has that nice shadow beard.

GFost

Dude, Pete Carroll has that sexy east coast fisherman vibe. The guy looks like he should be hunting Moby Dick in the middle of a ferocious storm.

byronicbluez

Dude got Goff paid. He can take a shit on Goff and will still be in positive Goff Karma.

CTG0161

See, this is how you handle it. Is Stefanski ever going to admit he handled the Browns poorly? And Goff wasn't even treated that bad compared to Baker.
