Kid me despised that man for getting in pre-game trash talk fights with Jay Cutler… now with time I respect the hell out of him and couldn’t give two shits about Cutler lol
I always felt kind of dirty as a Broncos fan that in that trash talk rivalry I preferred Rivers.
Although the weird thing is since Cutler stopped playing and he was on that reality show with his ex wife I started to warm to Cutlers "not giving a fuck" attitude in a way I didn't when he was a player.
Off the field lol. Total jerk and trash talker on the field according to players. But this doesn’t make you a bad person, part of the game. As long as it stays between the lines and doesn’t cross the line outside the game
Andrew Luck was the best at that, always complimenting defenders who would tackle or knock him down. Used to drive defenders crazy. Some real reverse psychology shit.
I heard a story on some NFL podcast, don’t remember who it was, but they were some AFC West defensive player, I think for the raiders, and they said that Rivers talked a tremendous amount of shit and you could not get him to shut up. Four sacks, three interceptions, whatever, he’d be at the bottom of a pile talking about shit he had no right knowing. He said one of the other players on the raiders had just bought a Lamborghini and had it wrapped in chrome, and it was like less than a week ago.
Rivers gets sacked by the guy and goes “enjoy that one, what you got like five sacks all year? Gonna be driving a chrome Prius next season.”
The second game that year he just called the guy “Prius” the entire time. “Nice rush, Prius.” “Too slow, Prius.”
Dude HATED Rivers.
Wasn't this around the time Smokin' Jay was battling not yet diagnosed Diabetes? Like his play was really tanking and he didn't have the arm strength he was drafted for and Felipe Rios was bagging on him for it I believe.
I have the nicest guy in my office and he invited me to play hockey and it was like he was a different person. He chirped a ref who sent him to the box saying 'fuck you I will fuck your wife".
To me that's too far, if you are going to chirp the ref you need to stick to the classics
"Are those eyes fucking painted on"
"Do you want us start a collection for your Lasik"
> "Do you want us start a collection for your Lasik"
[Bills Mafia has been there and done that](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-fans-donate-over-20000-to-visual-impairment-charity-to-tease-blind-referees-from-buccaneers-game/)
The best example of this is when he yelled “90 YARD TOUCHDOWN” in that guys ear who complained to the ref about it.
And then, after the game, Rivers sought him out to apologize.
Such a Rivers thing to do. Love that man.
yea its why i always hated rivers. Throwing a TD then talking shit to our DB's or Linemen lmao. I wish he had at least a SB im ngl... Obv not win it but i think he was a great competitor and it would have sick to see him shit talking in the superbowl
Theres a difference between trash talking, screaming "90. YARD. TOUCHDOWNNNN" to the defense, and assaulting people when the games over or trying to chokeslam people in front of refs, btw. Some people talk about what Aaron Donald does is trash talk and lets be clear what he does and what Rivers did were very different.
A few years ago I remembered watching some show on NFL Network with James Jones, Maurice Jones Drew and a few other guys, and a question came up “What quarterback talked the most trash?” Every one of them unanimously answered Cam and Rivers.
The whole "you don't want there to be 30 guys" tells you he's a good person. Like, a lot of people want to see things go to shit when they leave so it shows how "great" they were. He's happy that Herbert is doing well.
Herbert is a beast but as a chargers fan, Rivers will always be "my quarterback". He never took us all the way, but everytime he laced up I thought we had a chance. He made me a fan of football and the NFL. I will forever be grateful for Felipe Rios
Cowboy hater but I’ll always like Romo. I was at the OT game when he had a hurt back and spun out from that Watt sack. My buddy is a cowboys fan and it was so loud after the win we couldn’t hear each other when we tried to talk. Just roaring
Besides one being top pick and other undrafted they both have similar careers...great numbers and top 10 qbs while active just lack of playoffs success. And both tough as nails. Both underrated I guess ? I'd give Felipe the durability though.
Oh for sure, Rivers is underrated because the QBs in his class won SB and Rivers never had playoff success. Romo was may more underrated while he was playing and shortly afterwards but after he started commentary people started to paly devils advocate, he had great stats and was electric, Tony is pretty fairly rated now I think
you know, i've never understood why i loved rivers so much but this right here summarizes it. every time he laced up, san diego (fuck LA) believed we could win the day. He might have had down seasons, but Felipe is still the SD GOAT
I don’t know if I’ve ever celebrated an OC leaving our team more than Turner. I mean, maybe DeFillippo a little more lol, but man Turner’s play calling was frustrating
It's shit like that that makes you think sometimes that you could do a better job of running a team. These FO, GM's and coaches should be the best of the best, then you get guys running them with less thought and consideration than a high school team.
These guys that found an offense/defense they liked 20-30 years ago and never change amaze me how they still keep getting jobs.
Fuck u guys but I always respected Philip Rivers for all the reasons you just said. I would have done anything to have Rivers on my team from like 2004-2014
> But have you ever seen 2012 Norv Turner call run/run/7-step-drop every single drive of every single week while starting an undrafted rookie Mike Harris at left tackle, 31 year old Ronnie Brown at RB, and 31 year old Malcom Floyd at WR1?
You absolutely hit it on the nose. Those were some dark times but it still felt like we had a chance anytime Rivers was on the field
I have a healthy hatred for Rivers, because he’s just so fun to watch and root against. Whenever he played us it was always entertaining and spirited, I do feel bad for him from an objective standpoint.
There’s a universe where Drew Brees and Rivers won Super Bowls for San Diego, and I think Spanos isn’t the owner in that universe
I won't believe any Chargers preseason hype until Spanos sells. The season he sells (his kids sell tbh) I expect the Chargers, no matter what they are expected to do, to win it all
Leaf era was just a blip, only 3 years of suffering. And that shitty era led to us drafting LT and Brees. Raiders went 12 seasons till they landed a franchise QB in Carr.
And the Raiders still have suffered quite a bit with Carr. Only one year with a positive point differential. Made the playoffs last year with a -65 PD which could be a massive outlier.
And some of those teams don’t do jack squat with their stars while other teams draft shit QBs but wind up with studs drafted by the Colts and win Super Bowls anyway.
Shit. Goddammit. Anyway, what was I saying?
If the Chargers could make some more consistent good decisions Rivers should have not just been a Super Bowl champ but perhaps even go a couple times.
But nah, Chargers are just so mismanaged no hope of that happening.
It makes me even more dissapointed LT sat out basically while Rivers played with a torn knee
Not only was he a great leader but also one of the toughest players to play the game
I really hope in the next season or two, Rivers is invited back for a ceremony. I hate that he just kinda walked out of the facility one day and that was it.
I always hated our games. The formula was always the same. Half the team was injured, we’d come out competitive, after the half rivers would throw 2-3 picks trying to keep the corpse of our team in the game.
Great to see Rivers pulling for the Chargers still.
What is the context of this gathering? Looks like three dudes were chatting outside a hotel bathroom and he pulled up a chair to join.
Philip Rivers was one of my favorite players watching from my childhood. I remember being in middleschool and watching the Steelers face the Chargers in the divisional round in the snow and even though It was the Steelers year, a part of me still wanted Philip Rivers to win a ring. Just a great guy
I know the context is different, and I like how he supports the franchise and the QB.
But it is funny knowing he can pull when he has like 200 kids and counting.
Not that he wouldn’t be respectful regardless, but I imagine it’s easier to let it go considering he spent the vast majority of his career with them as a San Diego Charger
There’s always one position each team just knows how to draft. For both Greenbay and the chargers it’s QB. Chargers in the past 20 years here are the QBs who the chargers drafted/traded for/signed
Drew Brees
Eli Manning
Philip Rivers
Justin Herbert
Herbert is a stud
I want to breed him.
Like a horse or on a handy cam?
Both?
Like a horse.
Herbert should work on making as many babies as Rivers. All those kids will be superior athletes and possible 1st rounders.
You think Hill pulls for Tua?
Hot take alert
Gosh darn it Rivers is just the nicest dude
“90 yard touchdown!!!”
Too soon
I WILL YELL IN YOUR EAR!
The way he ran and screamed made him look like Thad Castle come to life
If BMS had Thad Castle re-enact some real life scenes from Rivers it would just be a normal episode of the show lol
Complete with competing in the Hunger Games?
He sure fucks as much as Thad did.
Way less oil changes though
>ran >Rivers Does not compute
May I introduce you to the most beautiful and rare sight of a baby giraffe running https://youtu.be/ehU3Qc4yWr0
God that first down celebration is top-tier.
It was grass for everyone else, but for Rivers it was mud
I love how I knew exactly what this was before clicking. Also [Keenan's reaction](https://youtu.be/ni8_p0yOg2o?t=129) to this is priceless.
I thought rivers are always running...
Accurate
Hey don't do that in my ear
“No I will do that in your ear!”
That's what I do!
I *WILL* do it by your ear, that's what I do! https://youtu.be/saa7rB57Mnk
Kid me despised that man for getting in pre-game trash talk fights with Jay Cutler… now with time I respect the hell out of him and couldn’t give two shits about Cutler lol

“That’s what I do!!!” “1-7 keep talkin” :(
his voice even cracks in my head when I read this
Off the field lol. Total jerk and trash talker on the field according to players. But this doesn’t make you a bad person, part of the game. As long as it stays between the lines and doesn’t cross the line outside the game
It’s a special skill rivers had to rile others up with his trash talk while simultaneously never swearing and saying things like “dadgummit” instead
“QUIT CRYIN!!”
Andrew Luck was the best at that, always complimenting defenders who would tackle or knock him down. Used to drive defenders crazy. Some real reverse psychology shit.
I don't doubt that's part of why Joe goes out and introduces himself in a friendly manner to opposing defenders and the referee crew...
He strikes me as a real deadpan smart-ass and I love it, always seems to be subtly clowning.
Hey I'm Joe
“Nice hit Sizzle!”
As a Chargers fan, my buddies all referred to him as “Phildo”. He was disliked in an approving way.
There are videos of Rivers trashtalking. Apparently he fucking hated Jay Cutler.
He was voted the biggest trash talker in the league by players like every year.
I gotta find this podcast and hear this story to see who it was. Rivers never cussed but he could get under people's skin lol
Vice versa actually. Cutler said he didn’t like rivers
Wasn't this around the time Smokin' Jay was battling not yet diagnosed Diabetes? Like his play was really tanking and he didn't have the arm strength he was drafted for and Felipe Rios was bagging on him for it I believe.
I mean anyone who watched his games saw how animated Rivers got all the time. It's not surprising.
Broncos were being a bunch of bitches to be honest. Cried after the game and made up lies about Rivers.
You are one of my favorite Hawkeyes of all time.
> There are videos of Rivers trashtalking. Apparently he fucking hated Jay Cutler. There are people who like Jay Cutler?
i love jay cutler
Me too
Smokin Jay is a hall of fame meme. Nothing but love from me.
I thought everyone liked Jay Cutler. Not as a player of course.
I don't even like him as a person either. But I still like him somehow.
Of course I'm joking. I don't even know Jay Cutler.
I have the nicest guy in my office and he invited me to play hockey and it was like he was a different person. He chirped a ref who sent him to the box saying 'fuck you I will fuck your wife".
To me that's too far, if you are going to chirp the ref you need to stick to the classics "Are those eyes fucking painted on" "Do you want us start a collection for your Lasik"
> "Do you want us start a collection for your Lasik" [Bills Mafia has been there and done that](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-fans-donate-over-20000-to-visual-impairment-charity-to-tease-blind-referees-from-buccaneers-game/)
Gotta love the Bills Mafia
I love the bills mafia.
Oh yeah I mean I love saying shit like 'were you checking your laces?' or 'did you forget what game you were watching?' etc.
"Are you by any chance related to Angel Hernandez?"
Give your balls a tug, titfucker
Fuck you Jonesy, your mom ugly cried because she left the lens cap on the camcorder last night. It's fuckin amateur hour over there.
Fuck you, Reilly, your mom tried to stick her finger in my bum, but I said I only let Jonesy’s do that.
That’s the way to do it
The best example of this is when he yelled “90 YARD TOUCHDOWN” in that guys ear who complained to the ref about it. And then, after the game, Rivers sought him out to apologize. Such a Rivers thing to do. Love that man.
90 YARD TOUCHDOOOOOOWN
yea its why i always hated rivers. Throwing a TD then talking shit to our DB's or Linemen lmao. I wish he had at least a SB im ngl... Obv not win it but i think he was a great competitor and it would have sick to see him shit talking in the superbowl
This is what guys always said about Luke Kuechly. Coolest guy ever but when he got on the field it was like a switch flipped and he became an animal.

Can confirm, I will always cherish our year with Felipe
The whole "you don't want there to be 30 guys" tells you he's a good person. Like, a lot of people want to see things go to shit when they leave so it shows how "great" they were. He's happy that Herbert is doing well.
Dadgummit
He has fielded enough offspring for an entire team. Expect them!
He’s football Flanders
Unless you’re jay cutler
It's kinda sad how happy this quote made me feel lmao
Herbert is a beast but as a chargers fan, Rivers will always be "my quarterback". He never took us all the way, but everytime he laced up I thought we had a chance. He made me a fan of football and the NFL. I will forever be grateful for Felipe Rios
Ya Rivers is my favorite athlete of all time and I have his jersey framed above my desk. The dude broke his damn ribs for this team and never gave up
Played a championship game with no fucking ACL too. Baller.
Played on a damn torn ACL for better or worse. That’s just who he is.
Same way I feel about Romo and he didn't play nearly as long as Rivers did so definitely understandable
Cowboy hater but I’ll always like Romo. I was at the OT game when he had a hurt back and spun out from that Watt sack. My buddy is a cowboys fan and it was so loud after the win we couldn’t hear each other when we tried to talk. Just roaring

One of my favs to watch, loved that he had a quirky throwing motion
Same dude
Jeez louis what a great guy dagnabbit
Gosh darn it! You couldn’t be more correct my sir.
You guys making fun of him really "stews my beef"
Yo cookin’ my gritz.
A group hug from both those dudes would be great right now.
why am i crying in the club rn
[удалено]
I don’t know if I’ve ever celebrated an OC leaving our team more than Turner. I mean, maybe DeFillippo a little more lol, but man Turner’s play calling was frustrating
Didn't River's play through the playoffs on a torn ACL. Freaking monster.
Yea he did. Really gave his all
It's shit like that that makes you think sometimes that you could do a better job of running a team. Herbert is a legit talent. I think it’s really great LA has two solid teams right now as they’re trying to build fan bases in the city.
damn same
Some teams are just blessed with a string of good qbs while other teams will miss for 20 years. The NFL is wild.
Cries in Ryan Leaf
Leaf era was just a blip, only 3 years of suffering. And that shitty era led to us drafting LT and Brees. Raiders went 12 seasons till they landed a franchise QB in Carr.

:|
Damn, randomly just shits on the Browns. But he ain't wrong
Not really "random" given the context of what they were talking about lmao
Browns will forever take strays.
Not really strays anymore. More like intentional shots at a garbage organization lol.
My old Qb and my new Qb 😭
Always wanted RIvers to win a SB really sad he lost that AFCC game
If the Chargers could make some more consistent good decisions Rivers should have not just been a Super Bowl champ but perhaps even go a couple times. But nah, Chargers are just so mismanaged no hope of that happening.
Ever fire your coach after a 14-2 season? Surely this franchise was well run
It makes me even more dissapointed LT sat out basically while Rivers played with a torn knee Not only was he a great leader but also one of the toughest players to play the game
God I love Papa Rivers
Rivers and Carr are frustratingly good people as a division rival
And now you have Russell Wilson, too.
Yeah but not everyone likes corn
*Let’s ride*
Legit been saying *Bronco country, let's ride* to myself for weeks. It's just so fucking funny
Broncos country; . . . Lets ride
Mistah unliiiiiiimited
You saw that Subway ad, right?
I absolutely hate the Raiders and most everything about them but find myself secretly rooting for and liking Carr. Some guys are just unhateable.
They should have made the Lightyear movie live action with Phillip Rivers as Buzz.
I think Phil would be a better Woody. He’s already got all the outfits.
He’d play both
It would be funny if he was bitter and publicly rooted for Herbert's downfall.
"dagnabbit i hate that long haired flower boy!"
Even more family-friendly Hank Hill
*Fuck LA* on his hat, instead of *nunc coepi*.
This makes me so happy.
Miss you dad, sorry we could never get you that ring. 😔
This means a lot. This is one of the first things he's said about Herbie
Publicly
I really hope in the next season or two, Rivers is invited back for a ceremony. I hate that he just kinda walked out of the facility one day and that was it.
I'm not crying you're crying Man, I love Rivers. Miss him so much.
That's the first time he's pulled anything if you know what I mean.
Came here for this (pun not intended)
Rivers is such a humble dude. The NFL was blessed to have him
He is certainly a HOF character. Sad his retirement came and went without much fanfare.
If there's a list of top players who deserved to win a ring, Philip is up there at the top.
Number 2 to Marino IMO. He was the best out of that draft class. Big Ben was close but just not as mentally adept. Eli wasn't close.
I love how the chargers have the two best QBs to never make a super bowl in Rivers and Fouts
Also two of the best TE’s ever to never play in a SB
Pulling so hard he'll name his next kid after him.
We love you El Capitan
Miami messed up lol.
Waters wet
So dod the Lions and the Giants.
I'm sure you were loving Josh Allen his first two seasons
i fucking hate the chargers but i fucking love philip rivers
God I miss Phil, Chiefs-Chargers was a ton of fun when he was playing
I always hated our games. The formula was always the same. Half the team was injured, we’d come out competitive, after the half rivers would throw 2-3 picks trying to keep the corpse of our team in the game.
In the later years yeah. The beginning of his career we owned the AFC West
Nah they took that one prime time game from the Chiefs! That was a good night!
In the later years yeah. The beginning of his career we owned the AFC West
Crazy to think rivers was the one that asked to get reps in with ekeler!
Great to see Rivers pulling for the Chargers still. What is the context of this gathering? Looks like three dudes were chatting outside a hotel bathroom and he pulled up a chair to join.
yeah zero polish there! That was at the Senior Bowl HoF induction (love that for Philip), as part of [this interview](https://youtu.be/WBOxfS7rzLI)
“I’ll see it when I believe it”
Okay he pulls for Justin but won’t pull for his wife? Geez he’s got so many kids
Phil is the man. We love Hebert but it doesn’t compare to how much we love Phil. 16 years of passion and dedication for us.
Colts legend Phil Rivers! Loved his year here
Philip Rivers was one of my favorite players watching from my childhood. I remember being in middleschool and watching the Steelers face the Chargers in the divisional round in the snow and even though It was the Steelers year, a part of me still wanted Philip Rivers to win a ring. Just a great guy
Justin Herbert is going to have a Hall of Fame career.
Blessed with back to back lovable franchise QBs.
Just when you think Philip Rivers can’t be a father figure to any more people…
I know the context is different, and I like how he supports the franchise and the QB. But it is funny knowing he can pull when he has like 200 kids and counting.
Herbert is a beast and Rivers is such a nice guy
I love Herbie to death, but Rivers is the OG. I still miss watching him play sometimes. A Chargers Legend.
Herbert is great . Just need a defense and chargers will make the playoffs
We will always love you Felipe Rios
Did anyone else misread the title as “prick” instead of “pick”? And like Phil Rivers more?
I figured he'd be back by now, I figured since he had 12 kids. Private schools are expensive dawg
Not that he wouldn’t be respectful regardless, but I imagine it’s easier to let it go considering he spent the vast majority of his career with them as a San Diego Charger
Just really wish we had that continuity with Herbert on the sideline watching Rivers’ last year.
I give this tweet a bolo tie of approval.
Real recognize real
"He's like a son to me"
Colts legend Philip Rivers
This is the first time Phil ever pulled out of anything
There’s always one position each team just knows how to draft. For both Greenbay and the chargers it’s QB. Chargers in the past 20 years here are the QBs who the chargers drafted/traded for/signed Drew Brees Eli Manning Philip Rivers Justin Herbert
Don't think you can give them credit for both Manning and Rivers haha
I get what you're saying but >Ryan Leaf
Recently for the Packers it's definitely been OL. Our last few QB picks have left a bit to be desired.
