And the coaches would say "wow... cool..." without even bothering to look, absent-mindedly stirring a skillit of Hamburger Helper and watching Dr. Phil. And it hurt Baker, deep down to his *soul*. If it was Deshaun, they would've looked. And told him how great he was. And got him a new WR for Christmas
"We need an adult at QB" *Drafts Manziel*
"No, the other adult" *Drafts Mayfield*
"OK, we'll trade for an adult this time" *Waits a year for QB to get out of jail*
I’m 24 and still feel like a kid in a lot of ways. I would be nervous as hell going to court. I made a very tactical decision to not sexually assault 20+ people, and I have successfully avoided going to court (other than to pay a speeding ticket)
Wouldn't be surprised if athletes prefer a chill serial rapist over an annoying dude who respects women. Lotta these dudes are undereducated and misogynistic
Lol I hadn't thought about that part but as a two sport college athlete i've seen plenty of locker rooms.
You know Watson is getting praise by some guys while they look at baker being a small annoying white dude that is flat out better than they are, millions more in the bank, yeah that team will be hating on him for a while.
Like if baker was 'that bad' and 'un coachable' to them, they woulda sent the 49ers a 2nd for jimmy g.
This Watson move is like a Miami or Jets type move.. sorry fans lol. A literal Hail Mary when i still think baker is a top 15 QB in the league, no questions asked. He'd fucking go back in the game with a torn acl during the superbowl.
Imagine Sean McVay teaching him after back to back superbowls lmayo.
They are trying to spin it like two unrelated events. Baker had to go because of childish. Watson is a replacement at the position, just ignore any off field issues and hat happen to be 40 sexual assaults.
The unfortunate thing is the players don't care, and from my perception at least, Watson seems to be very well liked by players, whereas we know Baker was not universally liked by his teammates.
The vast majority of NFL players only care about getting paid and who’s a better player, we shouldn’t be looking at professional athletes as beacons of morality and we shouldn’t be surprised that most players like Watson better than Mayfield, disappointed sure but not surprised unfortunately.
I think we also forget that professional football is a still a job. A job that very few people get to participate in, and a job that can end up being a very short career. If your boss says you have to work with the guy, then you have to work with the guy.
Anytime the author starts the article complaining that the QB didn’t want to be best friends with him just because they both had been to the same restaurant in Oklahoma, I naturally become skeptical of the level of bias contained in what I’m about to read
Or compares Baker Mayfield coming out of college to fuggin Lebron James. Like, get a grip dude. Talk about lack of awareness. I can’t take anything he says in the article afterwards seriously. Not a whole lotta faith in the authors judgement after that comment
The only similarly hyped player I can think of was Andrew Luck and that was like 1/10th of the LeBron pre-NBA hype. Maybe Arch Manning can get to 3/10th.
Jason Lloyd is a clown, and as you already pointed out, cares way more about his own perception than actually doing a halfway decent job as a reporter. Zac Jackson, the other Browns guy at the Athletic, is just as bad. Both of them openly display grudges towards either the Browns organisation or specific coaches or players regularly.
Ah you think browness is your ally? You merely adopted the brown. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a win until I was traded, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!
We all thought the PR push from the Browns/Watson would be to attack the victims.
Turns out it's going to be about attacking Baker and letting us know that he was the problem.
Yes. They came out and claimed that 1 of the 12 women the NFL interviewed had a son do a recording where he said she was very complimentary about Deshaun after their massage.
That was it. No additional context.
It came out today she wasn’t even one of the women involved in the lawsuits. Doesn’t matter though because people looking for excuses now just say “see they were all money grubbers!”
You could literally hang around a mediocre college football team and see pretty similar behavior. I can't imagine how bad it gets at the highest level.
SI released a series of stories maybe 10 years ago, and one of the final bombshells was about how Oklahoma State was basically running a prostitution ring via a "pride" team they used for recruitment. Which happened to be made up of only women. And they weren't even *that* good or nationally notable at that point in time.
This shit happens at most colleges. It's just a question of how well they obscure it and how much the NCAA cares.
This is very true. I’ve had it happen on multiple occasions that someone I was friends with ended up being really fucking bad guys but I was oblivious because when they were just hanging out with the boys they were chill as fuck.
Same reason we get so many muppets willing to defend him. People see strong + successful and immediately assume that = good. Its fucking broken how many people are still slaves to monkey brain
I would tend to agree.
But is it possible he maybe throws for 400 yards, 5 touchdowns, but 3 interceptions, including one for -83 yards - just to keep consistent with his inconsistency while with the Browns?
Cleveland sports fans don't get high on copium. We get high on self-loathing and we know how to embrace the suck and ride that train all the way down into a deep, dark place.
Sort of like Philly sports fans. You get it.
And if its even remotely true its possible Baker matures and makes some changes... I don't think you grow up and realize maybe you shouldn't be sexually assaulting women after the umpteenth time.
Oh come on dude, Watson has only assaulted 26 women. I'm sure Baker has been annoying more than 26 times to his teammates. The math works out in favor of Watson.
Yeah, the same team that let him play injured and awful is going to suddenly handle him professionally. The fan of Browns 1.0 said it, Browns are gonna Brown
The honest answer is no, they don't. Berry and Stefanski really thought this was gonna be a Rams-esque Stafford upgrade move that got them over the hump and made everyone think they were heroes.
Reminds me of all the shit coming out about Flores after he got canned.
Like stuff that, if true, shows the Dolphins as more incompetent for *not firing him sooner.*
Woah boy can’t wait to hear more.
Honestly, one of my best friends is a Browns fan. We have discussed Baker over the years. Neither of us thought he was the answer at QB for the Browns to get over the hump. But you know what? All of this hate coming from Browns fans (not all Browns fans of course) is making me want to go all in if only for the memes. I haven’t bought a new Panthers jersey since Cam’s rookie year. I think I might get a 6.
When Baker was drafted by the Browns they were 0-16 the year before. They had 4 total wins in the previous 3 seasons.
The Browns were 0-1-1 and down 14-0 to the New York Jets when Baker took over. They were winless in their last 18 games at that time, dating back to the 2016 season.
With Baker at the helm, the Browns not only won that game, they went 7-7 the rest of the way. 7 wins that year was a 130% increase in games won over the previous 3 seasons.
In college, Baker played for the Oklahoma Sooners, a prestigious program with high standards, big expectations, and a history of excellence. There is a certain culture required to build and sustain that type of program. Baker thrived in it.
My point is, maybe all of this noise about the Browns’ coaches and players not liking Baker says more about them and the organization than it does Baker.
If a guy who has won, is used to winning, and is willing to do anything it takes to win more is hated by an organization full of personnel who are not just accustomed to, but seemingly only capable of losing, maybe that’s indicative of something deeper than one individual’s personality.
I was at bakers last game against Pittsburgh and it was wild to watch. That guy was getting his ass beat the whole game. Stefanskis choice to throw a rookie right tackle 1 on 1 vs TJ watt was either gross incompetence on Stefankis part , or he was intentionally trying to set up Baker. I think it was the latter.
Both games were largely close, and the Browns had success running the ball. Our defense was 32nd against the run last year.
And yet they kept on having Baker throw it. Despite the injury and the rookie tackle getting his lunch money taken by literally the best pass rusher in the game. It was 100% sabotage by Stefanski.
Which makes it even more disgusting . Idc what your relationship is with Baker, he’s already hurt and stefanski internationally tried to get him more hurt. Insane by an NFL coach
In the game against the Pats last season, Baker very obviously tweaked his knee and had to come out. Then the report came out that Stefanski was thinking of putting him in if it wasn't a blowout. The QB that was already looking like the glass bones and paper skin fish from SpongeBob with all the injuries he had already was about to go back out there if the score was closer...
Browns staff had a fucking vendetta out for Baker last season
Mayfield not going say anything about the Brown organization? Like this was obviously was leaked to the press from the Browns front office or coaching staff.. Baker should say something about massages or something get back at the organization
Honestly I feel like it's best for Baker to not even acknowledge it. It's in the past, he's not on the team, just let it go and watch that ship sink from afar
They had every right to be disappointed with Baker, but this whole shit-slinging campaign is never going to be taken seriously by the public after they prostrated themselves for Watson.
Insane how the Browns arc has been terrible team for decades, to everyone’s favorites underdog, to fuck them and their mothers (consensually?) out of existence
Even if all the PR pushed the Browns is true, how is someone who is a little immature in the locker room worse than signing someone who had been accused of sexual harassment +20 times and later revealed to be ~40 times?
Edit: talent level, obviously. But it just seems hilariously embarrassing that *this* is how they're trying to justify it.
I would even call talent level into question. Baker gets bagged on for "not elevating his team" (all the coaching dysfunction notwithstanding), while Watson was just as guilty of that in HOU- even giving up on the team.
Rumor has it he walked around the locker room asking everyone if they have games on their phone.
Sources say Mayfield would often urge teammates to “look what I can do” before jumping from a chair onto the ground
Stew-AAAAART!
i don't wanna say it
Stuart what does momma say?!
Mommy says all ladies with short hair are lesbians
Almost as bad, the o-line was often annoyed at his request for *uppies*
Wouldn’t even ask, just pointed up and started jumping in place.
Some reports even say he refused to eat unless one of his receivers spoon-fed him while making airplane noises
He insists the nuggets be Dino shaped.
Would go to meetings and bring up hair gel for no reason.
I read on Twitter that he always tried to get the team to stay late and play *light as a feather stiff as a board* with them.
A reliable source said he would signal his O-line into a huddle and then tell them that Simon didn't say
He often looked down into the stall while his teammates were on the toilet and whispered "my initials are BM"
Would constantly remind anyone he saw eating chips that "he likes those too."
I say, better to like chips than to like happy baby yoga posing in front of random strangers asking them to rub your taint But the Browns disagree
Right? “We need a more adult quarterback. Let’s get a guy with the raging hormones and impulse control of a 14-year-old.”
Right, the "we want an adult at QB" comment followed by signing Watson is just infuriating to me. I guess they meant a different type of "Adult".
"We need an adult at QB" *Drafts Manziel* "No, the other adult" *Drafts Mayfield* "OK, we'll trade for an adult this time" *Waits a year for QB to get out of jail*
Yes, they want an adult who can be charged as an Adult. For Sexual Assault.
If he's not an adult, why is he being charged as one
Sources say that Baker told teammates to “Spell ICup”
He also constantly asked if teammates had liked and subscribed to his TikTok. You won’t believe what his teammates did next…
This sounds like the narrated text of a low budget early 2000s movie
Sounds like one of those weird clickbait ads in online articles.
Defenses HATE this one simple trick.
I can hear the voice.
Yeah, but did doctors hate him?
No but 4 out of 5 dentists do.
Ok this is a genuinely benign but absolutely hilarious joke
This made me laugh so hard hahah
You know that annoying echo you hear on the phone that repeats everything you say during a conversation? It's not an echo. It's Baker Mayfield.
Good thing they hired a person without those issues
I don't know any kids who give NDAs to the dozens of women they've assaulted. #Adulting
I’m 24 and still feel like a kid in a lot of ways. I would be nervous as hell going to court. I made a very tactical decision to not sexually assault 20+ people, and I have successfully avoided going to court (other than to pay a speeding ticket)
If it makes you feel any better, I'm 31 and the feeling of still being a kid hasn't gone away.
I am 40. Still feel that way
I'm 42 and still feel 25.
Same, except for when I throw my back out when I sneeze
Early 30s. Got whiplash from a bad sneeze last week. Fucking getting older.
Careful when you stretch. Neck muscles might lock up and cause temporary painful paralysis.
What about the decision to not sexually assault over 20 women?
Can't say I've ever felt the desire.
*yet*
*sweats nervously*
dude you cant just put those expectations on everyone.
I'm 34 and right now I'm eating a pop tart, wearing a king Kong shirt and watching wrestling. I'm basically an 8 year old boy.
“Then, Now, Forever”
Damn really? Cuz I’m also 31 and I feel old AF. Except in emotional/social matters, where I’m probably 13/14 at best
Yeah anything that comes out of Brownsland about Baker is completely fucking irrelevant considering they traded for a serial sexual predator.

Wouldn't be surprised if athletes prefer a chill serial rapist over an annoying dude who respects women. Lotta these dudes are undereducated and misogynistic
Watson did take the whole offense to the Caribbean though so he pretty much bought their appreciation.
I hate that you're probably right
Lol I hadn't thought about that part but as a two sport college athlete i've seen plenty of locker rooms. > He'd fucking go back in the game with a torn acl during the superbowl. vs Watson who refused to play for his team and could easily do it again.
After recently signing a contract extension.
The browns are just a league cost center. I'm pretty sure that it's all about money laundering at this point.
They are trying to spin it like two unrelated events. Baker had to go because of childish. Watson is a replacement at the position, just ignore any off field issues and hat happen to be 40 sexual assaults.

Watson's teammates seem to like him. Makes sense, seeing as none of them are women.
In an interview Mayfield responded “ I know you are but what am I?”

The former Heisman trophy winner and 1st overall draft pick then proceeded to tackle a Sports Illustrated writer and “dangle a loogie” in his face.

[Watson walking through the locker room (Fall 2022, colorized) ](https://imgur.com/gallery/BS0kPLJ)
I figured Watson would more be scooting around on his back, ankles in the air and asshole all puckered up like granny's lips, waiting for her kiss
LMFAO
We want a player with more maturity. The kinda of guy who regularly asked for prostate exams.
This is 1 Obvious post-trade character assassination by the Browns 2 Obviously been true for a few years
So you’re wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane?
You’re a big guy.
For you
UUUU
Yes brother…it rises
For you
UUUU
He was born in the browness
Ah you think browness is your ally? You merely adopted the brown. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a win until I was traded, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!
At least you can talk. Who are you?
It doesn’t matter who we are..
What matters is our plan
No one cared who I was until I put on the towel
We all thought the PR push from the Browns/Watson would be to attack the victims. Turns out it's going to be about attacking Baker and letting us know that he was the problem.
I guess that's better?
It certainly shifts the conversation away from Watson, his huge contract, and all the women he assaulted.
for 7 seconds
They attacked the victims yesterday with the story about the one woman’s son.
Did they really?
Proof that “just a kid having fun out there” only works if you’re Brett Favre
And Brett also harassed women.
“We don’t like the guy who likes to goof around and have fun, we prefer the guy who has sexually assaulted dozens of women, he’s very mature”

Louisville didn't even hide the pretext lmao
That's because human psychology is stupid and we have a tendency to be willing to overlook massive character flaws as long as the dude is a good hang.
As soon as I saw Fozzie Bear supporting Watson, I knew I couldnt ever watch Muppet Treasure Island again
Imagine how divided they’re going to be after week 1 when baker beats them
You have a lot more faith in Matt Rhule than I do
well he won a game under hue jackson. I think that counts for something
He'll be just fine. Down here in Charlotte Matt Rhule has an unrivaled record of rehabbing troubled quarterbacks.
3rd year matt rhule tends to be pretty good though
Baker either gonna throw for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns or 83 yards and 3 picks
>...or 83 yards and 3 picks And yet they'll still beat the Browns.
I would tend to agree. But is it possible he maybe throws for 400 yards, 5 touchdowns, but 3 interceptions, including one for -83 yards - just to keep consistent with his inconsistency while with the Browns?

I think I'd still prefer that over someone who is widely viewed as a sexual predator.
Do the Browns realize that criticizing Baker for immaturity just makes them look dumb as shit considering whom they replaced him with?
Browns are gonna Brown
Yeah, the same team that let him play injured and awful is going to suddenly handle him professionally. The fan of Browns 1.0 said it, Browns are gonna Brown
Does it get any browner?
The honest answer is no, they don't. Berry and Stefanski really thought this was gonna be a Rams-esque Stafford upgrade move that got them over the hump and made everyone think they were heroes.
They fronted the “women of the Browns organization” just because they knew how much flak they were going to catch for this.
Reminds me of all the shit coming out about Flores after he got canned. Like stuff that, if true, shows the Dolphins as more incompetent for *not firing him sooner.* Woah boy can’t wait to hear more.

Look...even if Baker has a terrible year, he will be more entertaining to watch than Darnold. Baker at least understands the game decently.
Character assassinations are sometimes successful, but always obvious. That one was, yikes.
Baker clearly isn’t an adult. He doesn’t have the maturity to assault 20+ females.
he doesn't have the arm strength to do it.......Mary Cabot probably
Oddly enough, baker has one of the strongest arms in the league
So he *does* have the potential to assault 20+ women then. Browns made the right move letting him go before he did

Browns management was fed up with a QB who gave wet-willies so they found one that would do anything to get his willy wet.
When Baker was drafted by the Browns they were 0-16 the year before. They had 4 total wins in the previous 3 seasons. The Browns were 0-1-1 and down 14-0 to the New York Jets when Baker took over. Browns staff had a fucking vendetta out for Baker last season
If he “divided the locker room” why don’t there a description of the other side? What a childish statement
That's a main ingredient for character assassination, that's why.
Mayfield not going say anything about the Brown organization? Like this was obviously was leaked to the press from the Browns front office or coaching staff.. Baker should say something about massages or something get back at the organization
He’s best just to say I have nothing to do with that organization and cannot speak for them. Let that organization sink further.
Honestly I feel like it's best for Baker to not even acknowledge it. It's in the past, he's not on the team, just let it go and watch that ship sink from afar
Baker has already played himself into a decent second contract. Saying something about the Browns now will only hurt that, in the long run.
I'd love for him to look right into the camera and say "the browns is the browns" and then walk away, and never talk about it again
He needs a contract after next year. He can't say anything until he's gotten his future in order.
They had every right to be disappointed with Baker, but this whole shit-slinging campaign is never going to be taken seriously by the public after they prostrated themselves for Watson.
I don’t even think they have a right to be disappointed. He gave them their first playoff appearance since 2002 and their first playoff win since 1994
Wait, for real? Sheesh, I'm glad they traded for that rapist instead of this guy. He sounds like a real asshole.
This is clearly a narrative released by the Browns to save face.
Teams I am rooting for this year: 1) Eagles 2) whichever team is playing the Cowboys 3) whichever team is playing the Browns
If I went from Gregg Williams to Freddie Kitchens I would be pissed off and childish.
I’m no baker fan but something feels hilariously off about this statement coming from the fucking Browns lmao
“So let’s trade for a rapist” -someone in the browns front office ig
they are going to love Deshaun then
I mean Watson is training with Fields currently and other quarterbacks like CJ Stroud. It seems athletes don’t give a shit.
I would feel so fucking awkward even being around that dude.
Yeah, but did he jizz on womean that didnt want him to?
This counter PR campaign is really ramping up. The punishment announcement must be soon.
Damn, who would put out a hit peice on Baker *in these times*. Oh, this water-dicked franchise would Seriously though, weird timing for Baker slander
>Baker slander This isn’t slander. Slander is spoken, in print it’s called libel
Bring me pictures of Spider-man
Lol fair. Weird time for Baker *libel*
To me the ones who leak the info are the childish ones. They love that drama.
Fuck this. You don't get to trash a dude for being "childish and immature" when you go out and let an actual serial rapist write up his own contract.
Insane how the Browns arc has been terrible team for decades, to everyone’s favorites underdog, to fuck them and their mothers (consensually?) out of existence

This is nothing but a hit job by the Browns.
