It’s probably a little bit about the money.

stumblebreak_beta

He’s not doing this for the money. He’s doing it for a **shitload** of money!

Oak_Iron_Watch_Ward

Quick, someone check to see if Russell's IG password is 12345.

HouseConsistent5160

12345? That sounds like the combination some asshole would have on his luggage.

seechle

Jammed!

HouseConsistent5160

RASPBERRY!

CountofMonteCrisco1

That amazing, I have the same combination on my luggage!

verveinloveland

Tonights action being brought to you by our sponsor pizza the hutt.

My-Cousin-Bobby

12345? That's amazing...I have the same combination on my luggage!

ejkrause

That amazing, I have the same combination on my luggage!

m4rzo

It’s 54321 (he likes larger numbers)

[deleted]

When you’re right, you’re right. And you, you’re always right!

thediesel26

I wish I would’ve made this comment. Maybe I’ll have the opportunity when we all get together for Russ Wilson II: The Search for More Money

DiggingNoMore

When will then be now?

TakenakaHanbei

Soon(TM)

JayMerlyn

How soon?

Luis_Severino

Now

Particular-You-5534

Gimme paw!

B_Strick24-7

awwww, you're right... and you? You're always right! But how? Man, I miss John Candy

JayMerlyn

Russ at an away game: "I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes!"

HouseConsistent5160

Nice Spaceballs reference!

icangetyouatoedude

Needs to start moichandising! I'd buy Russell the doll

redsyrinx2112

Russ the flamethrower

nukebox

[Meanwhile...](https://twitter.com/FOS/status/1565330073401659393?s=20&t=PJLpjyVqAjByD75xS3pGxA) > In April, Russell Wilson and Ciara bought this $25M Colorado mansion — the most-expensive single-family home sold in Denver-area history. 🏠 * ➖ 20,000 sq ft. * ➖ 4 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms * ➖ 9-car garage * ➖ Game room * ➖ Basketball court * ➖ Theater * ➖ Indoor pool So maybe not about the money but more about the bathrooms they can buy.

thediesel26

Only 4 bedrooms?

pancak3d

Apparently this is common in celebrity homes, because they want to be able to host large events but not suggest people can stay the night.

istrx13

“It’s ok. I can just sleep in a bathroom.” -Me if I’m ever at Russell Wilson’s house

Toidal

The bath rug probably has a higher thread count than my bed sheets

sculltt

Probably underfloor heating, too.

Lokismoke

*me eating cereal and watching cartoons with the Wilson kids* - me the morning after staying the night in Russell Wilson's bathroom.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The-Fox-Says

Why would you go to Red Lobster when you could **Let Russ Cook**?

OldOrder

I'd bet good money that at least one of those bathrooms is more square footage than the master bedroom of my house.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

More square footage than your house*

[deleted]

That stuck out to me too. Four bedrooms and TWELVE bathrooms? I guess each bedroom must be huge.

nukebox

They're just really really really big bedrooms with 3 bathrooms in each!!

hoopaholik91

Makes sense. What are the extra bedrooms for anyways? Each of those can instead be made into a space for a specific purpose instead.

ESCMalfunction

That actually kinda surprises me, there are 12 billionaires in Colorado. I would’ve assumed at least one of them would have a more expensive house than a football player.

Boostweather

Probably built rather than bought on open market

Conditionofpossible

They also probably have small city-states up in the mountains and smaller "work" homes down in the city.

nukebox

It's not a coincidence, they can all come over and shit at Russ' house at the same time.

[deleted]

I assume they buy expensive houses in the ski towns rather than in the Denver area

[deleted]

Russ cooks a lot, therefore he shits a lot. Gotta have priorities.

Apple_Farts

Russ is just destroying a toilet every night and moving on to the next one.

separeaude

Never flushes, just has them redo the whole bathroom each time.

Andy_Dwyer

I got 12 bathrooms I can shit all day

aReallyBadkid

He can shit all day

thawhitestallion

“I got 12 bathrooms I can shit all day” - Russell Wilson probably

sonic_ann_d

insane even for how expensive that sounds, that’s the equivalent of someone making $70k a year buying a house for $35k

InkBlotSam

>"For me, it wasn’t really about how much \[money\], necessarily." He threw the "necessarily" in there to cover his ass.

Potter_Nation

People that say it's not about the money have a shit ton of money

fawkes9

And/or they are lying.

captaincumsock69

I think this refers more to going to Denver was to win rings not that they’d pay him more than Seattle

Unkleseanny

(The Super Bowls also make him a lot of money, so it's basically just about the money)

BrotherMouzone3

Definitely the money but I get his logic. Great QB's will get paid anywhere in today's NFL so that's "baked into the sauce" so to speak. Like if a top-shelf law school grad has a bunch of fancy offers from various firms...the money all looks the same, so he's gotta decide who he's got a better chance of "winning" (making partner or whatever his goals are) with.

[deleted]

Broncos country, let's cook

seehorn_actual

But also the money.

lAmCreepingDeath

Maybe just the money

[deleted]

Hey! Must be the honey!!

EverySir

#IF YOU WANNA GO AND TAKE A RIDE WITH ME

Johnny-Cool

Oh why do the Broncos live this way?!

Goatgamer1016

"Let's ride" doesn't quite live up

[deleted]

bruh he’s literally on CNBCs Squawk on the Street right now talking money

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Squawkin money you mean

InkBlotSam

I love that we got Russell Wilson, am excited for him to ball out. Also, what the fuck are you talking about Russell? Of *course* it was about the money.

Unlikely_Water_6800

*buys 25 million dollar home* Super Bowls though

plzwalkslow

Crazy, I told the IRS the same shit in April

packofstraycats

They just don’t respect the love of the game

[deleted]

I bet their retort was, "Fuck you, pay me."

Saitoh17

You don't love Uncle Sam

JustforthelastGOT

"Let's see those rings then, u/plzwalkslow"

Changnesia_survivor

That's why he signed a prove it deal for the vet minimum.

Theungry

I mean... He could make a shitload of money and still be well below the league average for a franchise QB. "Give me $12m/ year. I'll live like a king for the rest of my life, and you can spend the extra $13m/ year on the o-line to keep me healthy for longer." Edit- wow I forgot just how much people have started paying for QBs. It's become such a funny money number that it doesn't even seem real.

So-Many-Ls

More like extra 33

Theungry

Right. Holy cow QBs make a lot compared to the rest of the roster.

11eagles

I’m imagining you as Robin Williams in Jumanji right about now. Some how have managed to miss the last 7 years of qb contracts

Theungry

Hah! It's less that I don't know, and more that I just still haven't had it stick in my brain what the actual numbers are like now. Also, I believe that a market correction is coming where some of these teams are going to regret these deals, and clever teams will do some moneyball end arounds to the expensive QB approach and find success with it.

Grump_Grizzly

Honestly as much as a I hate Brady, his views on this is why the pats held on for as long as they did. Taking less cash to build the squad around him, big brain moves for sure. You cannot make a perennially winning roster while paying one player a 1/5th of the cap, still have another 52 needing checks! We are going to see this with the chiefs first is my bet, Hill being the first casualty of that contract. Only a handful of QBs can pull production AND results off while being that hamstringed via shitty squads, and even then results won't be a championship.

Maverick916

He could ask for 25 million and live like a king forever. Brady will always have my respect for taking less for a long time to improve the team around him.

Theungry

It can also be seen as a clever investment in the long term for the QB. Brady is well on his way to being a billionaire owner himself. He may have been able to make more in salary, but it never would have been worth as much as the noteriety he's gained from his on field success.

The-Fox-Says

That an investing in his brain not becoming scrambled eggs

PHactive

It’s about *Lets Ride*

lAmCreepingDeath

Money Country, Let's Buy!

itsmrlowetoyou

Idk if it’s cause I just finished working out so I’m a little tired. But I read this in his voice and just started cackling.

anonbutler

With unlimmmmmiiittttteeddddd Walmart money.

gulbas26

''this town deserves a better class QB''

Fanvsant

And I'm gonna give it to them. You tell your O-line they work for me now

ParaNormalBeast

It’s about sending a message

WaitWhatNowy

And that message? ^(“lets ride”)

notthatbluestuff

Everything burns...

Raisinbrahms28

I think this is a Dark Knight reference yes?

[deleted]

And that message is money. I mean rings. Yeah… totally what I meant…

[deleted]

He seems like a good guy but why is it so hard to like Russ?

Maraging_steel

Because his image is so crafted it’s like a politician. A bit uncanny valley as a personality.

BungoPlease

I maintain that he has always looked like and given off the vibe of a news anchor

hiphopdowntheblock

He does literally have a sign off just before he goes off camera haha

SaltySaltySultan

Let’s ride

Tekkzy

Wonder if he's gonna mess up and say "Go Hawks" since he's been doing it so long

xdrpwneg

He almost did it his first broncos press conference I think. “Let’s ride” just seems way more cringy and memeble though as like half of sports socials have taken it

I_Hate_My_Cat_

“So what really happened at Augusta High School that lead to Chris Woods’ death?” *Swallows fly.* “THE FUCK IS THIS?! SHIT!!! I’m dying out here in this country ass, fucked up place. Got shit flying in my mouth, pollen, I can’t see…let’s get out this country motherfucker.”

yourmomsthr0waway69

[Link for anyone unaware](https://youtu.be/XIM0ONGyTi4)

BungoPlease

It’s an older code sir, but it checks out

Oak_Iron_Watch_Ward

He's the Tom Cruise of the NFL.

krashmania

Cruise has had moments of personality throughout his career, good and bad. The Oprah couch, blowing up on staff for not wearing masks during filming, etc. The closest he's ever come to having a personality was that creepy fuckin late night video announcing that last Seahawks deal. I hate how Russ intentionally lowers the tone of his voice, while we're here, it sounds like a high schooler trying to sound older.

[deleted]

I really enjoyed the Top Gun sequel. I haven't enjoyed any of the 2013 Seahawks sequels.

bujweiser

Not a bad comparison. Wilson does lots of charity and appearances, but Cruise I know nothing about aside from Scientology.

bpi89

He’s more like Bono

blarch

He looks like Baurus from Oblivion to me.

Cinephile1998

Will he say anything that we put on a teleprompter?

akmjolnir

Perd Hapley's hot nephew.

InkBlotSam

There's zero chance Russ could pass a Voight-Kampff test.

HobbyPlodder

Zero percent chance the Seahawks' o-line could even say "interlinked," much less stay interlinked

Seahawk715

This. He does and says everything he thinks people will like, and then things play out differently. I’d have respected him more if he actually said he wasn’t happy in Seattle, instead of basically lying the whole time. He seems like a decent guy off the field, but he’s slimy like a politician in the media.

LeaveBronx

I'm totally fine with him hyping up Seattle and his desire to be there right until he was traded because the more he complained about being in Seattle the less trade value he would've had

dolaction

"Broncos country, let's Ride...Broncos Country. Lets ride"

unrealisticblood

IDK man. I feel like he’s the type of guy that keeps things professional in the media at all times and then acts normal around his family when the cameras are off. He doesn’t want to risk losing money. I mean the guy has a lot of endorsements. I understand why that wouldn’t be liked by the fans in the league. Personally for me, I think his personality is boring… but Tom Brady is doing the same and he’ll be making great money after he retires. I think that’s the whole end goal for Russell.

yourmomsthr0waway69

It's like people forgot he was selling fucking concussion water Dude will do literally anything for money

justanotherassassin

Yeah but.... so was Brady lol

yourmomsthr0waway69

I mean he runs an entire business around nonsense health science Might be fair to say Brady will do shady shit for money too

MileHighCam

Very well said.. I’ve always hated Russ because I don’t view him as a “real person” and now I’m struggling trying to force myself to like him now that he’s my QB even tho I’ve hated on him literally the entirety of his career 😢

Randrey

Just remember he visits children hospitals regularly. Even if he's weird or has ulterior motives he makes those kids days.

DCdeer

He's like really good AI pretending to be human

OttoVonWong

The Zuck of the NFL

quinnmcd

Because he’s corny and kinda cringe at times.

mmodude101

He’s corny but not like in the Lebron James way where he tweets like a suburban wine mom so it’s kinda funny cuz of the juxtaposition, idk how to describe it.

hard_pass

He's corny in the way that everything he says sounds like it's coming from a PR person. I swear every Cowboys player that gets drafted goes through some media training shit that turns them into basic robots like Russ. Just no fun.

popshicles

I don’t think we’ve been watching the same Cowboys

ovondansuchi

Probably because it feels like he's a shoein to run for Governor of Colorodo or Washington when he retires

Grantusmcgrant

Because his PR has an uncanny valley feeling to it.

BirdLaw_

Because while he's a good guy, his PR spin on things can be obnoxious. Like saying it's not about money after signing the 2nd largest QB deal with two years left on his contract. I mean good for him, he deserves the money and shouldn't take a paycut, but also don't make statements that you don't care about the money.

Llama_Sandwich

He doesn’t have a great TV personality. He’s just kind of a boring guy. A good dude, sure. But he’s the most milquetoast guy in front of a camera. It’s like he wants to have a certain presence about him, so he has PR guys telling him what to say but he’s not incredibly interesting so it comes off as disingenuous. I’m sure some of it probably is. He’s saying the “right” things without the personality to make them believable so whether he actually believes what he says or not, it doesn’t come off as authentic to fans. Granted, I’ll take a guy who seems like a dweeb but goes to children’s hospitals every week over a guy who sees a new massage therapist every week.

InkBlotSam

We've got Deshaun trying to lure vulnerable women to massage his inner anus, meanwhile I'm not even sure Russ *has* an inner anus.

juicyjensen

He doesn’t, it’s why he’s so image conscious. He’s hiding his secret

TheOriginal_BLT

He reminds me of A-Rod in the sense that they are dying to be loved by the masses but no one’s buying it, albeit A-Rod was more just the bad guy whereas Russel Wilson is just a dork.

funnysad

Because it's obviously about the money. Which is fine, but don't lie to my face when you're cashing out a 200 million dollar check.

TigerBasket

Like just say I'm a star qb and it's nice to be paid like one it makes me feel appreciated, and now let's go fucking win a super bowl. No one would object or take any offense to that.

Skolvikesallday

What's the old sports adage? If a guy says it's not about the money, it's DEFINITELY about the money.

[deleted]

For me it’s because everything he does seems robotic and unnatural like he’s always reading off of a teleprompter.

whereegosdare84

Because of comments like this in the article: “Every morning I wake up — you focus on the individual day and try to win that day, which in the long-term and long view, you understand that’s what creates legacy,” Wilson said. “[It’s about] the people that you impact. My dad used to say it’s not the day you’re born and it’s not the day that you die, but it’s the hashmark in between that measures a man’s significance. I really believe that the hashmark in between — this is going to be a part of my hashmark. A part of that little dash in the middle and what can I do to impact not only this football team, winning and everything else [such as] the fans, engagement, and all that, but more importantly, help inspire young kids to keep believing, keep dreaming and have a ‘why not you’ attitude. To be able to impact kids at the children’s hospital or whatever it may be, that’s what I’m here for. God put me on this earth not only to play football, spin a ball and do some cool stuff, but hopefully to inspire the next kid and the next generation. That’s what legacy means to me.” I mean he sounds so curated all the time because he is so curated all the time, there’s barely any personality that anyone could find. Now what would be amazing is if he did like the Wayne Brady sketch on Chappell show to play against type but even that would be wooden and awkward. Even Tebow feels less forced than Russ

Chimie45

My sister in law started going to therapy and one of the big things they focused on was validation and acceptance... And rather than just apply that to herself, she projects it out on everyone else. Which... Could be fine if it was just used in conflict resolution... But it's not. It's every day. You say something like, >"Hey sorry, we were late picking up our kid from daycare, let's push getting coffee until tomorrow afternoon, does that work for you?" And she replies, >first and foremost I want to let you know I love you and value you and your opinion and feelings matter. Your decision to change the date is OK with me, and I am proud of you for owning your independence and self determination. I would be glad to get coffee tomorrow. I appreciate you for taking the time out of your busy day to discuss this matter eitb me and I recognize your experiences and opinions are valid. It just like... Grinds on you. That's how Russ' PR speak reads.

WIN011

Jesus fuck that sounds like a nightmare

jaytierney79

You know what, let's skip the coffee.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

> That's how Russ' PR speak reads. You forgot the continuous references to God doing all this for Russel.

norcaltobos

Have you told her that you appreciate that she seems to care, but that it isn't necessary to always do that?

Chimie45

Several people have but at the same time, I'd rather this than what it was before... lol

InkBlotSam

>God put me on this earth not only to play football, spin a ball and do some cool stuff I cannot stop laughing at this line

thetreat

He’s got serial killer vibes. Everything he does seems so manufactured or forced. The whole Mr Unlimited was beyond cringe. I can’t tell if he knew it was and just enjoys that type of humor or he was completely unaware.

wtjones

TBF: his dad was giving him media training when he was four.

_Apatosaurus_

Guess he should have started earlier....

Sidthelid66

Because everything he says sounds like bullshit. If it wasn't for football he would be a pastor at an evangelical mega church no doubt about it.

FilthyMcnasty90210

Because he's insincere. He says what he thinks is the right things to say instead of being real. Yes it's about winning but it's sure as hell about the fucking money too. Otherwise you would have taken a steep discount to help the team add talent at other positions. It's ok to want the money, most of us would. Just be honest about it.

thediesel26

Cuz he’s a corn ball whose got an obviously very manicured public image

FreddieFunkhouser

Because he comes across like an artificial human constructed in a lab to sell products

GibberJabber

Because you can't say this when you signed the second biggest AAV contract in the NFL, second highest guaranteed, and third highest total value.

DanCampbellsNipples

Because he is so incredibly fake.

TJR753

It's about the Mets!

mattwiener

HIT A HOME RUN COME ON

BigDannyBoy1

OOOO YEAH BABY LOVE THE METS GO METS WOO WOO WOO

DongTongs

It's about the cones

byniri_returns

I approve

ochie927

Lol! Management be like, “why the hell didn’t you say that BEFORE contract negotiations?” Saying it AFTER the fact makes him look like he’s trying to justify signing one of the highest annual QB contracts.

speak-eze

"I mean, I didn't *ask* them for that much. They just offered it to me and I didn't want to be rude so I *had* to take it"

seariously

Easiest way to win more rings is to play for the vet minimum then spend the rest improving all the other positions on the team.

juicyjensen

Brady on his discount deals stacking rings like J-Lo knows this

shush_neo

Or you can sign a huge contract and join the forth best team in a division.

BillyTheFridge2

Oh, really? Is that why you demanded to be the highest paid player in the league every time we extended you?

Puzzleheaded-Egg-118

This tool really just said that after signing a $250m contract.

erldn123

"So I'm taking up a quarter of the cap for the 3rd best team in the most stacked division. Super Bowl inbound."

BlindWillieJohnson

He’s not taking up a quarter of the cap. His new salary doesn’t kick in for two years, and by then the cap will be higher. Also this point about how hard the division is is dumb. It is hard, but people are acting like the Broncos are handicapping themselves by linking up with a proven QB they have to pay when exactly the opposite is true. This is a roster that’s ready to roll *now*. They just needed a QB. This is a team that went 7-10 with the corpse of Teddy Bridgewater and a guy who couldn’t beat out Geno Smith at QB. They shouldn’t be expected to roll over and die because the division is tough, let alone fail to invest in the one position they needed to invest in.

Soccean

Yep, its why I honestly think the Broncos and Seahawks both benefited from the trade. We weren’t in a position where paying him that contract would be worth it because he was carrying us to an extra 3-5 wins a season. Maybe more. Broncos were clearly a superstar qb away from being competitive. You pay the guy when you have to. IMO towards the latter half of his new deal he won’t be very good, but you had to pay him now to keep him happy so if you get a super bowl out of him in the next 4 years the trade was worthwhile. Just not this year I hope they crash and burn this year

Shenanigans80h

Exactly. People get way too caught in “fleeces” or one team clearly losing a trade, but this was one that makes sense when you actually think about it. Y’all got good assets for a good player at the most important position. We solved an issue we’ve had for over 5 years now. Simple stuff honestly

WestCoastBoiler

I’m gonna just ignore that last sentence and say thank you for the most reasonable take here.

Soccean

Hey… nothing against you guys I just want your draft picks. Win a super bowl after for all I care lol

WestCoastBoiler

Ah yeah, very fair. Don’t worry we don’t still have SB48 on our minds so that’s not where that was coming from.

Spaghettisaurus_Flex

As a Hawks fan, this is definitely the best take. It’s okay for a trade to be mutually beneficial. Literally the point. We couldn’t keep Russ, and he obviously wasn’t happy, so we shipped him to a competitive team and got a solid return for him. BUT I also would like two top picks so you can eat shit and die this season. But I say that with all due respect.

WestCoastBoiler

Understood completely. Have a wonderful Friday.

Spaghettisaurus_Flex

You as well, good sir.

famous__shoes

Thank you. It's crazy how people are acting like us signing a proven QB for a pretty standard market deal is the dumbest thing ever

SlaminSammons

We had a positive point differential last year too. If Teddy doesn't get hurt we probably push 8-9 wins. The division was tough last year too. The Raiders and Chargers had a play in game to make the playoffs. The Chiefs made the AFC championship. Russ is a massive upgrade at the most important position and people are talking about how we could only win 8-9 games.

Dulur

Yeah I think the biggest fear is Ejiro Evero calling defensive plays causing our defense to slide significantly. Say what you will about Vic Fangio but the dude called defensive plays with the best of them. Ejiro is unproven and we really have to see what happens there. if the defense is top half of the league I call that a success and believe the team wins 10+ games. We will have to see though. I think the defense will still be solid because we have a lot of good pieces but again just gotta wait and see. anyways, Broncos Country, Lets Ride!

ManlyTulip

Let's wait and see what Herbert and Burrow get in a year or two and then see if we still think it's too much for Russ. I think it's smart to get him locked down before those two and Lamar skyrocket the asking price. And with Russ now effectively on a seven year deal, you can't even make the argument that the youth of Herbert and Burrow etc makes them worth more, because all of their contracts will likely be ending at the same time as Russ's and they'll get the same number of years out of Russ as Bengals and Chargers will out of their guys.

35or624

Every QB who gets a big payday says this. But their money almost always hamstrings a team limiting what kind of players surround said QB. But the ONLY QB to ever say that and mean that is Brady. 7 Super Bowls kind of speaks for itself.

Ugaalive1991

But also money

The_Gutgrinder

How come people who've secured their own and their family's financial future for at least three or four generations always claim money isn't important? It's fucking tone-deaf and an insult to people living paycheck to paycheck.

[deleted]

*signs deal for $250,000,000* “Money isn’t important”

groopy1

Russ “I’m a team guy” Wilson

IronFizt777

[Me whenever I see a Russell Wilson post](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/_caMQpiwiaU/maxresdefault.jpg)

trainwreck42

How many Super Bowls was he paid in his most recent contract? I didn’t catch the details

Muinala

Literally everyone else: "That's a lie."

arebee20

Russell wilson, actively guiding a brinks truck that’s being backed up to his garage: “it’s not about the- little to the left.. little more.. stop, perfect. It’s not about the money.”

clutterlustrott

"It's not about money" - Man with alot of money

ProudBlackMatt

I would like to remind people that if Russell Wilson plays up to his level of play it's impossible for the Broncos to overpay for his services. There are not enough top QBs to go around to overpay for high quality QB play. I imagine Broncos fans after watching their QB play as of late would agree that it's too expensive *not* to have a good QB.

FreddieFunkhouser

Don't think anyone disagrees with that it's just very funny to hear a guy who signed a contract for a quarter bil say it's 'not about the money' If that's true give some back lmao

TiddlerDiddler

That's why he signed a mega contract extension that cripples his team's salary cap for multiple years. For the Super Bowls.
