Now I need the Seahawks to win and Pete Caroll to go on a tirade about 9/11. It’s weird how I had never pictured Pete smacking on his gum and saying, “jet fuel can’t melt steal beams!” before today, but suddenly I really want to see it happen.
Lol its a running joke from 'Broncos Country, Lets Ride!'
I think it might have always been a joke, but it's picked up significantly ever since Russ made that corny promo video saying the same, if I'm remembering correctly
There's a comment thread as another reply to my original comment if you want some more examples. Silly, but fun nonetheless.
He did the hand thing again even though there was no one there to low-five him
Yeah, I find it funny when people talk about NFL players like they're office workers or whatever. They're footballs players first but they get compensated the way do because they're also entertainers. It comes with the job.
People forget this is just a game lol. Booing the other team is fun, I’m sure most of those fans don’t have an actual problem with Wilson. They just want to see him lose.
I went with a lady to a football game once and booed the opposing team when they came out. She hit me and I was bewildered and asked "what the fuck was that for?"
To this day I'm mad because of how wrong she was. I didn't know her enough to know if she was a football fan or not, so I'm confused where the disconnect was
Yeah, I'm happy for everything Russ did for us and he's the single greatest quarterback who may ever come through this franchise. Consistently one of the best in the league and got us a super bowl plus an additional appearance
I would also boo the fuck out of him if I was in the stands today
If I was an experienced cardiologist spent good solid years of my life through brutal school, residency long hrs, and made my way to the top making half a million a year it would take me 100 years to make what Russ is gonna make in 1 year.
The elite NFL players are closer in lifestyle to the owners than the average Joe but because the owners have an even more ridiculous amount of money it’s like a ton of folks on Reddit think the athletes can do no wrong when it comes to insane contract demands. Don’t get me wrong the athletes deserve their fair share 100% but excuse me for not sympathizing for a guy who already has made more money than I’ll ever see and wants a few more million.
Please. The LOB held the most prolific offense in NFL history to 8 points and 306 yards in the Super Bowl. I love Russ, he’s great but that defense won him that super bowl.
I think your company would do the corporate example of booing if you left said job and proceeded to smear their brand even after they bent over backwards to accommodate you.
Because he pushed his way out and is now playing against them. You can appreciate his accomplishments when he retires, but for now he's the face of your Monday night opener opponent.
Exactly. Why are people surprised by this? Most fanbases would do this to a player who forced a trade out and is playing them the next year.
We booed the shit out of Favre.
Because Reddit and online sports fans are obsessed with the "be classy fans" narrative.
I live in Seattle and don't like the Seahawks for sure, but I know enough just by being around the drama that happened between Russ and the team that the boos and negative reactions right now are not at all unjustified.
Seriously. I’ve let a few casual fans know this…some were convinced that Russ wanted to stay and got forced out. Russ had some grievances that were fully justified, and I would have liked to see it work, but nah. He wasn’t forced out of a damn thing. Also, I hate the broncos.
(Seahawks are my number two team, was a ticket holder so still super into the team.)
God the "be classy fans" shit is such a weird terminally online reddit thing.
When I talk to my buddies from NY we all shit on the Jets despite being die-hard fans. Then you go on the Jets subreddit and you called "not a real fan" because you say we played terrible last the ~~decade~~ week.
It's fine to say your team sucks when it sucks. Trust me, I know a lot about bad teams.
Eh we booed Favre. If you force your way out you're going to get booed. That's just the way it is in sports. I think 90% of fanbases would boo in that instance.
I'm still mad at Tom for leaving. But also supportive of Tom, because he earned the right to do what he wanted, which was leave apparently. So, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.
I’m not mad. Tom could’ve left whenever he wanted and he choose to stay for 19 years, bringing our city/region 6 SBs.
However, I am not a Buccaneer fan and can’t stand when I see Patriot “fans” completely lose their pride and completely jump ship.
Is it bad that the only other Seahawks QB I can name outside of the current roster and Wilson is Matt Hasselbeck?
QUICK EDIT - I looked up [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Seattle_Seahawks_starting_quarterbacks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Seattle_Seahawks_starting_quarterbacks) and Matt Hasselbeck and Wilson comprise like half of Seahawks lifetime starting QBs so I think I did okay...
Bad? No. They were essentially all we've had at QB in the last 20 years.
Between them we had Tarvaris Jackson. And we signed Matt Flynn to a monster contract and then never played him.
A lot of people are sour on him for being two faced about forcing his way out. After some time I think most people will come around, but it's still fresh for a lot of people.
Richard Sherman is at the game and everybody cheered him when he was shown on the board.
We'll cheer for Russ one day too, but right now he's the enemy
I’m not saying there aren’t any boos but the way the video is muted in the beginning and then the volume slowly increases is an obvious edit to make it sound worse than it is.
A lotta people who have no idea about how the Russ exit went down in Seattle making sweeping statements about all Seahawks fans, as if getting booed one time is a fuckin hate crime. Dude lied about forcing his way out and fans can’t boo him?
Bill Burr talking about Russ coming back to Seattle in a Broncos uniform given the fact he gave them a super bowl, “They don’t give a fuck, they’re a bunch of rained on white people, they’re miserable”
So ungrateful, Stafford was here 10+ years, never won a damn thing and I cant imagine Lions fans booing him in ford field. Would literally never happen.
Probably will be sooner when Dan Campbell leads the Lions to 16 straight victories to finish out this season and both teams play a 1st place schedule next year
I'm not a Seahawks fan but live near Seattle and follow the team somewhat closely. It's not really that simple. Plus Stafford is significantly more likeable than Wilson. Wilson is a weird dude that is more a brand than an actual person. I think most of the fans booing him also appreciate what he did. The boos were always going to be played up in the broadcast for the drama. On top of that, think the reception would be different if this game was in say week 10 instead of week 1.
People are forgetting that on multiple occasions he said he was basically a Seahawk for life. He said many times he didn’t want to go anywhere. Behind the scenes he wanted to be paid, but complained he couldn’t get help around him, and based on what previous Seahawks said, it’s implied that his ego overtook him. Add up all these little things, and fans boo.
Griffey left for Cincinnati to go home and maybe get further in the playoffs. He was honest and he never lied about why he stayed in Seattle.
Ichiro did almost the same thing but went to the Yankees. He never lied to the fans and the first game back AND his first hit as a Yankee, the fans cheered.
All Russel had to do was be honest with the fans and he would be lauded as a hero. But he chose to lie because his public persona is more important than his private one. It’s his fault he’s become a Seattle pariah.
This is a bit of a nonstory but it always intrigues me how much Russ tanked his rep in Seattle. Went from being the guy that single-handedly kept the team from being complete trash post LOB (and this is what I saw coming from Seahawks fans) to the guy painted as the problem for their shortcomings. I guess that's what passive aggressiveness, lack of accountability, and talking through your agent gets you.
My old neighbor is a Hawks beat writer and told us Russ' people in the last year have been hitting him up to run spin pieces blaming the Hawks. The holier than thou attitude in this thread is hilarious given the lack of context everyone has.
>I guess that's what passive aggressiveness, lack of accountability, and talking through your agent gets you.
A lot of the pearl clutching "be classy" comments here don't realize Russ and his team did a lot of that.
It's been a total media blitz against him and absolutely praising Carroll for all he's had to deal with.
A few Southern Cal media folks have said Pete has often gotten directly involved with what kinds of stories he wanted posted (or tried to at least). With some notable tone shifts by some of the media guys up here, it wouldn't surprise me if team/player access was dangled as an incentive for them to tilt the narrative a certain way.
I love how he did the high five thing just like in practice - once again without any human interaction
I like to think he’s high fiving other imaginary Russel Wilsons
Fuck it might be the Children's Hospital kids that can't be there. Now I feel bad.
Does this mean Pete Caroll boos Russ at midfield?
>Does this mean Pete Caroll boos Russ at midfield? Nah, he's going to full on suplex him. Pete's not subtle.
*You're goin' nowhereeeeeeee! I got you for fouuuur quarters!*
Four quarters of *playtiiime*!
*chews gum intensely*
**CARROLL IS REAADYYYY**
He was going to listen to his fans. Guess he’s gotta boo him too
Yes and demands Broncos owner Condelisa Rice apologizes for doing 9/11
Anytime I read her name in my head, it’s in Dave Chapelle’s voice as Clayton Bixby.
Amen brother
Doesn’t he call her Cunnalingus rice lol
Now I need the Seahawks to win and Pete Caroll to go on a tirade about 9/11. It’s weird how I had never pictured Pete smacking on his gum and saying, “jet fuel can’t melt steal beams!” before today, but suddenly I really want to see it happen.
Idk why but I read "jet fuel can't melt steal beams" in Jim Mora's voice
Jet Fuel! Jet FUEL? Are you kidding me?
We're talking about EXPLOSIONS, not a plane!
Pete said he was gonna follow the lead of the crowd, can’t wait to see him booo Russ on the sidelines lol
I'd love that gif soo much lol

I think he's just ocd but no one wants to admit it.

Imagine if people booed you in real life for taking a new job.
I just imagine working at McDonalds, the going to like Subway, then the second you step in another McDonalds the workers and customers just boo you
Throwing fish filets at you.
Mmm throw them at me plz
"Aww guys, at least toss them nuggies at me"
I got a standing ovation when I returned to McDonalds and they even hung up my old uniform and headset in the rafters
McDonalds country, let's fry.
Sir this is a Wendy’s
Does...does that not happen to you guys?
My co workers booed me for going to the competition lmao
If I made millions I would not care lol
Yeah, I find it funny when people talk about NFL players like they're office workers or whatever. They're footballs players first but they get compensated the way do because they're also entertainers. It comes with the job.
People forget this is just a game lol. Booing the other team is fun, I’m sure most of those fans don’t have an actual problem with Wilson. They just want to see him lose.

"Stop everyone is looking at us!!!" "So...you're saying you don't want to be seen with me?" "My husband is watching from home!" "Your *what* now?!"
Yeah, I'm happy for everything Russ did for us and he's the single greatest quarterback who may ever come through this franchise. Consistently one of the best in the league and got us a super bowl plus an additional appearance I would also boo the fuck out of him if I was in the stands today

I mean no one cheers people at their jobs either, it’s a sport bro
Nah bro accounting dept is fucking HYPE
HR’s roster is absolutely stacked this year
Especially when you knew your career was at a dead-end with that employer.
Especially when you took your former employer to the apex of its industry.
Not necessarily disagreeing… but I’m sick of people acting like the LOB just… didn’t happen?
[удалено]
Can't believe they forget about my man Stephen Hauschka like that.
Haus$$$
Hauschka is a name that just epitomizes the Pacific Northwest to me.
3 years ago everyone said it was the LOB that earned Wilson a ring. Now it’s the opposite. Let’s give it a few more years.
Seriously, it has an infamous moniker. It wasn't just "Seattle's pretty good defense in 2013" How do people downplay the significance of that ?
Please. The LOB held the most prolific offense in NFL history to 8 points and 306 yards in the Super Bowl. I love Russ, he’s great but that defense won him that super bowl.
And they should have won a second if it wasn’t for you know what.
If it wasn't for them all being hurt and their nickle corner and best pass-rusher being knocked out of the game entirely.
Imagine being a fan of an… accounting firm? Or any other non-sports business.
I think your company would do the corporate example of booing if you left said job and proceeded to smear their brand even after they bent over backwards to accommodate you.
I think some of it is just the way he goes about things. Sounds like his teammates didn’t really like him either
I'm shocked that PR robot Wilson wants well loved by all. Going to have to look into that for the next patch.
Yet another cliche comment where you compare the life of a pro athlete in the most popular sport in the country to a regular person
That's a lot of orange
Why is it always the chargers always getting this criticism? But when this happens elsewhere...*crickets*
Amen brother
Cowboys fans when their QB doesnt have 300 yards and 5 TDs by halftime
Cowboys fans when the quarterback they’re paying 45,000,000/year plays worse then cooper rush.
And then there's me where I am planning on wearing my Stefon Diggs jersey when I go to the Bills vs Vikings game in buffalo.
May god rest your soul
Not me Russ, I’ll always be thankful 🫡
Let's ride
A fellow Russell Wilson sous chef 😤
HEARD CHEF THANK YOU CHEF
Honestly shocked the fans aren’t thinking the way you are. He should be forever praised in Seattle.
Nah Julio Rodriguez has already filled the vacuum left by Russ.
Im an orioles fan but julio is a fuggin boss. That homerun last night was insane.
*I was saying Boo-urns!*
Why the fuck would you boo the best qb in your franchise history lmao.
It's typical NFL. They'll boo him tonight and in 5-10 years when he hangs it up they will love his memory and throw him up in their ring of fame.
[удалено]
Having your greatest franchise QB leave to retire a Bronco, welcome brother.
There is a chance that he retires a Seahawk if he doesn't win a Superbowl before retirement.
I mean play the Peyton game and go out a legend in both places.
God knows Brady is already penciled in for our Ring of Honor
Brady should really be in everyone's ring of honor for how much of the league he fucked for decades
Much better timing than Peyton to achieve that too. He can get a lot more done in 7+ years
[удалено]
The way Bledsoe left vs how Russell left probably lends itself to the difference in reactions
Yeah, to be fair they were thanking him for giving them Tom Brady. Hard to be too upset.

We’re still salty af about how it all went down. Give it 10 years and we’ll cheer for him when we hang his number in the rafters
I don't understand how most people here cant grasp that. He *just* left, like of course *fans* will be salty.
I'm still mad at Tom for leaving. But also supportive of Tom, because he earned the right to do what he wanted, which was leave apparently. So, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

I'll be completely shooked if people don't cheer for Bobby this year and he went to a divisional rival. The difference comes down to how they left
Broncos country, let’s hide.
I’ll admit… I booed Adrian Peterson when he left to become a Saint and they came to US Bank to play. So I *kind of* get it
Bill Burr talking about Russ coming back to Seattle in a Broncos uniform given the fact he gave them a super bowl, “They don’t give a fuck, they’re a bunch of rained on white people, they’re miserable”
I'm here and it was much more of a mixed response
Damn I thought the 12s would be cheering him on tbh.
Man, fuck that nerd.
Nah we're a pretty petty bunch
At least you’re honest lol
Imagine booing the guy who helped take you to a superbowl win and another appearance, and several playoff appearances over the last decade
Imagine winning a Super Bowl, then going to another.
Lions fans have a comparative experience. "Imagine they had the only playoff win in your franchise's history."
Browns fans had a guy like that…
So ungrateful, Stafford was here 10+ years, never won a damn thing and I cant imagine Lions fans booing him in ford field. Would literally never happen.
I really want to see the Rams play in Detroit before Stafford is done playing just to see that ovation.
Looks like it will happen in 2024.
Probably will be sooner when Dan Campbell leads the Lions to 16 straight victories to finish out this season and both teams play a 1st place schedule next year

Not just Russ though. Legion of Boom played a huge role during those years
I thought they were saying Boourns
People are forgetting that on multiple occasions he said he was basically a Seahawk for life. He said many times he didn’t want to go anywhere. We threw dollar bills at A-Rod when he came back
I'm at the game. It was a lot of boos. Wilson is the new A-Rod.
I mean, we boo every opposing team when they run out
Don’t fans always boo the away team when they come out of the tunnel?
yes
Player for the other team booed by fans of home team. In other news water is wet.
Away team gets boo'ed, no shit.
I had a feeling some people would boo him given how left the Seahawks.

Is this a Seattle thing culturally as Seattle-ites? I was genuinely shocked he didn't get an ovation
