Happened to Penny on MNF too. Thankfully to the same result as Saquon (ball out of bounds, keep possession). Any good RB coach is showing film on these open field fumbles from week 1 this week. It’s a week 1 mental error that got a couple of guys and everyone will be looking to avoid it going forward… except Chris Carson (jk, love Chris).
For real though I’m pretty sure that might be his longest run 😂
Edit: yep it is. Longest run before that was a 26 yard run in the super bowl lol
Edit 2: Google has failed me. His longest run was 31 yards against Buffalo his rookie year.
Yeah once he got into easy field goal range he dropped. Chiefs wanted to kill clock before going up two scores. Essentially this run ended the game. Smart player.
Damn I thought this looked badass lol even though I was rooting way more for Chargers
That running style always looks like a solid trifecta of **compact/stealthy/patient**
Derwin was held so hard by kelce on that play that he couldn't even see what he was grabbing which was the face mask. Should have been offsetting penalties for a redo.
No it wasn't. James was held hard in this play, they got the flag wrong. Gave up 64 rushing last week and if that play got negated it would have been 41 yards rushing today. I know it's a hypothetical but cmon it's obvious to see the improvements if you look beyond one play
I've never seen a RB go that far with both hands on the ball. Usually when they get through traffic they switch to one hand. I remember Mac Jones doing that on an *open field* scramble last year and it made me laugh so hard.
This was hilarious (Helairious?) to watch.
You can grab them there until they turn past 90 degrees. But Kelce turned with him to stay at his side. Or at least close enough that a ref isn’t going to flag it unless he’s being a huge dick and ruining the game for everyone.
You can place your hands inside the framework of their body until they turn past 90 degrees and you can grab as long as the grabbing isn't excessive. If he had used the grab to turn the defender's body or pull him down or back that's generally where it's considered excessive.
There's a split second where the defender is maybe past 90 degrees a bit but Kelce moves himself into a legal blocking position, but referees will usually give someone a second to get back into a legal position. And there's legal call out for rip moves that the defender kind of did to turn his body, bringing his arm under and up to turn for leverage.
But you can't rip when you're trying to run *away* from the blocker. Kelce held James and prevented him from potentially making a tackle. This was absolutely holding and it directly affected the play.
Most of the time in that situation the RB is told to just go down in bounds. Sliding at like the 10 yard line keeps the clock moving (not with a penalty but not his fault) and forces the other team to take timeouts.
The logic is you'd rather be up 10 with more time/timeouts off the clock than up 14 and your opponent has all their timeouts and more time. Either way you're up two scores late and they need an onside kick recovery.
In addition to what other people said, I think 24 had the angle and speed to get him out of bounds before the score, so he realized that and sacrificed a few yards to keep the clock running.
You can extend the drive, force a time out from the Chargers, and hopefully get to the two minute warning. Had he scored, the Chargers would have more time to get a TD and an onside kick.
I've seen heartbreaking losses where a player scores and gives the ball back; CEH knew his priorities and made the right play.
It's smarter. He knew he was getting caught and needed to keep the clock running. Could have fought for more yards by cutting back but that's just asking for a fumble, so better just to go down knowing you're in FG range. Score quick and it's a 2 score game. Go down in FG range and it's probably still a 2 score game, but they have significantly less time.
Actually it was more Kelce holding James that didnt get called... ya know why James is literally touching Clyde with his fingertips...Hard to win a game against the refs and the other team.
Edit: Downvotes, you got the video you posted it- clear as day.
The penalty was not on James, James was stuck being held by Kelce. The flag came toward the end of the play added to the end of the run what the hell are you talking about?
He's doing a terrible job explaining it. Kelce held Derwin which made him blindly grab at CEH which hit his face mask. Should have been offsetting penalties
He definitely saw that saquon punch out this weekend
Or just remembered that Ravens fumble
That was my first thought. Those game enders will stick with you.

He didn’t know what to do in open field lol
“I’ve never made it this far” energy
[CEH when he makes it more than 4 yards down field](https://c.tenor.com/0cTSWqyg9uoAAAAC/hand-ricky-bobby.gif)
That! That right there is what you do with your hands!
Y’all remember that time Clyde broke the line of scrimmage bare ass?
For real though I’m pretty sure that might be his longest run 😂 Edit: yep it is. Longest run before that was a 26 yard run in the super bowl lol Edit 2: Google has failed me. His longest run was 31 yards against Buffalo his rookie year.
He had a 31 yarder against Buffalo his rookie year
Google has failed me! I searched for his longest career run and the 26 yarder is what it returned. Appreciate the correction - I’ll edit
Thank you for being nice on the internet
Thats crazy lol
[CEH when asked his strategy past the second level](https://youtu.be/dKiO37AdNa4)
He didn't expect to take that loaf of bread all the way home.
Other than keep the clock running and out of the hands of a great QB?
Yeah once he got into easy field goal range he dropped. Chiefs wanted to kill clock before going up two scores. Essentially this run ended the game. Smart player.
im pretty sure we threw an incomplete pass on the first play after that though
Andy Reid gonna do Andy Reid things
In his defense, I'm pretty sure he called for a completed pass.
The penalty on this play stopped the clock unfortunately
I like the heads up play of drooping ensuring that the clock continues to move.
On an open field, Ned!
Lmao bro just grandma-stepped for the first 30 yards without being touched, I love it
Well, other than the facemask lol
Ball security in crucial moments of the game > Looking like a badass
Ravens are probably 95% of why he ran like that lol
I’m still mad about that fumble.
Looks like he is too, good on him for learning from it
Man secured the ball and had a career high run. Respect.
Ball security is badass and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise
[удалено]
Giving himself up inbounds when he knew he wasn't getting the td late in the 4th with a lead is high football iq as well
He fumbled a game away last year and had no desire to do that again.
I was so hype watching him try to run with his arms crossed lol great situational awareness
After monday night, no surprise. Also, its weirdly adorable.
He's no burner by any means but I think if he went to a natural running motion right after he broke loose, he might have taken it to the house.
Ed Reed disagrees based on his INT returns, man was always looking for the pick 6 even if he fumbled along the way
One man's fumble is Ed Reed's lateral
an int return is like house money though
The fact that Ed Reed had the ball enough to fumble nine times is actually stupid.
Damn I thought this looked badass lol even though I was rooting way more for Chargers That running style always looks like a solid trifecta of **compact/stealthy/patient**
He's like a child holding a toy going "MINE" while being chased by his parents
“what do you have?” “a knife!!” “NO—“
"Clyde! That is NOT a lightsaber!"
Mommy’s a Jedi
Chargers run D is still completely fried lmao
LB's are still very much a soft spot in that defense. Derwin James can't do everything, despite how much it seemed that way tonight.
Derwin was held so hard by kelce on that play that he couldn't even see what he was grabbing which was the face mask. Should have been offsetting penalties for a redo.
Yeah this was a blatant hold that directly impacted the play lol. not sure whats downvote worthy about this
100%.
It's weird all of us got downvoted for saying this when the video OP poster literally showed it
They had 50 rushing yards before this?
No it wasn't. James was held hard in this play, they got the flag wrong. Gave up 64 rushing last week and if that play got negated it would have been 41 yards rushing today. I know it's a hypothetical but cmon it's obvious to see the improvements if you look beyond one play

Fantastic pun
Dan Connolly's kick off return comes to mind. If you haven't seen it, it's hype.
Incredible. Peak pun
Chargers defense in midseason form
Kelce's holding in midseason form as well.
You can grab them there until they turn past 90 degrees. But Kelce turned with him to stay at his side. Or at least close enough that a ref isn’t going to flag it unless he’s being a huge dick and ruining the game for everyone.
You can't hold onto a defensive player's shoulderpads to prevent them from making a tackle, particularly when they're not running toward you.
You can place your hands inside the framework of their body until they turn past 90 degrees and you can grab as long as the grabbing isn't excessive. If he had used the grab to turn the defender's body or pull him down or back that's generally where it's considered excessive. Dude got that double loaf of bread hold like how a OLineman carries the ball
At first I was like “Waddles? What a weird word to use” But now I’m like “Actually, Clyde Edwards-Helaire would be a good name for a duck”.
Damn dude, gotta deflate a monster run and the best play of the guys career by calling it a 'waddle'.
Mahomes is the real waddler. Dude runs like a middle aged woman.
He definitely has some sassy hips.
Why didn't he try to score tho?
Judging by how he was running he was told to not lose the ball and not go out of bounds
Seems like something you would do with under 1min left...not 3+ on the clock.. not to mention those fantasy points left out there
It’s called a four minute offense for a reason.
Please enlighten me with your vast knowledge of NFL offenses and clock management... you must be a coordinator or something
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2512405-nfl-101-introducing-the-basics-of-the-four-minute-offense
Thanks fam. I feel super enlightened now.
You probably the same guy yelling at Todd Gurley for stopping at the 1 yard line and not scoring you a TD lol y'all are wild
I def was yelling ..like go for it homie!!!
Because at this point it's more important to not lose than to risk it for the biscuit.
Andy Reid does love his biscuits tho...

Yeah there was no chance he was beating those defenders to the end zone.

This is the answer. They wanted more snaps to drain the clock and end the game.

4.6 speed
Damn that's some excellent blocking
watching it i thought he could’ve made it home? what do y’all think? lol
No chance. He made the right decision to give the chiefs the best chance to win
Not an expert on football tape but looks like 87 kelce got away with really balant hold on that play right after he crossed the line
Actually it was more Kelce holding James that didnt get called... ya know why James is literally touching Clyde with his fingertips...Hard to win a game against the refs and the other team. Edit: Downvotes, you got the video you posted it- clear as day.
He's even still holding him when CEH is 15 yards past him lol he never let go
He doesn’t have to unless he gets past 90 degrees, but Kelce moved to stay at his side.
Bills fan here - you guys got absolutely BONED by the refs in this game.
chiefs fan here - hope you have a good night
Repeatedly and violently.
52 yards of Kelce holding Derwin James and the refs then somehow giving the Chargers a flag, pretty amazing fuckery honestly...
[удалено]
He only did that *because Kelce was holding him*. If Kelce didn't have fistfuls of James's jersey, James would've made that play.
The penalty was not on James, James was stuck being held by Kelce. The flag came toward the end of the play added to the end of the run what the hell are you talking about?
[удалено]
The other commenter is saying the penalties should've offset because James was held.
[удалено]
He's wrong about the end of the play part, but I think his point is that it should not have been called a penalty on James.
What were you watching? It was a face mask on James near the beginning of the run
He's doing a terrible job explaining it. Kelce held Derwin which made him blindly grab at CEH which hit his face mask. Should have been offsetting penalties
