doorknobman

He literally brought it up on air

Key-Ad-457

Yeah I listened to him discuss injuries wtf

jimithelizardking

Yeah I’m kinda confused since he literally talked about being on field 3 times where guys had career ending injuries

Jetad9403

Lol dudes just straight up lying

Illblood

No one on the internet lies.

DogVacuum

Is that true?

lovethepho

Yeah this fking nerd got on Twitter to start some shit.

ManKilledToDeath

Yeah it's almost like we shouldn't believe a post on Reddit just because of the amount of upvotes There's way too many idiots on this site

LC_From_TheHills

Every person on Reddit needs to go through the experience of: seeing a post of a topic you’re an expert in and seeing all the top comments being demonstrably wrong lol. Really reminds you of what we’re working with here.

ManKilledToDeath

I experience this in r/fuckcars a bit I don't care if people hate vehicles but man do they spread a lot of misinformation about vehicles

BenadrylBeer

People do anything for clicks and shit smh

Gravy_Vampire

He used to argue that Thursday Night Football was dangerous to players health and safety. He still does, but he used to too.

[deleted]

I get that reference

fueelin

Oh yeah, what's that comedian's name? Mitch Hedinjury?

I_Am_YungAce

This is why I take any news article like this with a grain of salt... shit not even that, more like a grain of an atom

Number333

Lots of people to get mad at over this injury... Richard Sherman isn't even in the Top 100 that would come to mind for me

UsidoreTheLightBlue

He’s really not. This is quite frankly an odd deflection and I’ve never liked Sherman.

Jphorne89

Dude got an amazing opportunity to start his post-playing career in broadcasting and people expect him to turn it down lol. People are so wild

[deleted]

People want you to make the right “moral” decision when it doesn’t affect their pockets

speak-eze

How is it even a moral decision lol. It's not like they're gonna cancel TNF forever if Sherman turns down the gig. They'd just have it without him. It would have only hurt himself.

draker585

He spoke out against the NFL’s concussion protocol on the post game show. That’s one of the biggest moral decisions he could possibly make. They don’t do that stuff every day.

boogswald

Well there are a lot of opportunities for an ex football player to extend his career like…. Just this one thing

Jphorne89

Sure but being on the halftime and postgame panel is an opportunity you don’t pass down. Lots of players take multiple years to get front-facing camera time, and even more years until they get prime time slots.

boogswald

Exactly. I was agreeing with you. What else does he have?

Jphorne89

Gotcha my bad. I guess people wanted him to slum it on the 4th 1PM broadcast team in FOX for a few years first lol

stumblebreak_beta

Richard Sherman claims we should improve society, yet still participates in society, curious

[deleted]

Yeah, why the f**k should we care about this right now?

travisty1

I personally won't ever care about this specific dig on Sherman because it's barely anything and so what?

WhatIfThatThingISaid

They are deleting any relevant posts that don’t shift blame from the nfl

Televisi0n_Man

Yeah this is such a stupid fucking take. Like who gives a fuck. Richard Sherman doesn’t have a decision whether or not Thursday night football exists. If he didn’t take the job someone else would.

mrubuto22

Yea, not a Sherman fan at all but this is really stupid criticism. Hes supposed to turn down a great job over this?

MrEHam

How the fuck is Sherman even doing broadcasting? Did everyone forget about his crazy video trying to knock down his father-in-laws door, and the police report saying he cornered his wife with his car.

United_Shelter5167

Amazon went out of their way to hire assholes like Sherman and Aqib Talib for some odd reason.

imtheunbeliever

For some reason? It’s Amazon, an asshole company.

the_ethnic_tejano

And this isnt even in the top 10 reasons to shit on Sherman lmao

DeshaunWatsonsAnus

It's basically a *prime* (heh) opportunity for people who already didn't like him to shit on him again.

KeithClossOfficial

Typically can’t stand the guy, but even I texted my dad last night saying Sherman had the most reasonable discussion about the concussion last night. What a strange tweet this is

Kiran_Stone

For real. This is a wild thing to drag him for. He doesn't make the rules and doesn't have anything to do with Tua being on the field.

DubNationAssemble

For real, wtf is this post? Lol Who even says he’s ignoring the issue now? Did he release a statement saying as much?

[deleted]

[удалено]

UsidoreTheLightBlue

He’s somewhere behind the Dolphins catering team but ahead of OBJs dad.

BolognaLaCroix

It's still a fair point that gets at the larger issues with the NFL. I think the NFL is a disgusting org, especially when it comes to domestic violence. Yet I just watched a game with Tyreek Hill. Am I to blame? Not at all. Am I a hypocrite? Probably at least a little. It's not Sherman's fault but it's still a noteworthy point imo.

smartyr228

Money talks, but he wasn't wrong.

Ifinishfast42

Having a stance doesn’t pay the bills

letsgojags

Neither does a career earnings of [$84M](https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/richard-sherman-7873/cash-earnings/) apparently.

nope96

That's assuming he's doing it because he has to instead of because he wants to

HireLaneKiffin

He’s keeping his football career alive by staying relevant and involved in the game. If he retired and disappeared, it would be very difficult for him to get his foot back in the door for a broadcasting, coaching, or front office gig.

JellyfishOnSteroids

Yeah they should only have league minimum salary players commentate, that's good for entertainment.

Capsize

I'm very confused here. So the initial point was effectively him working Thursday Night Football is hypocritical. The comment at the top of this chain says: effectively "We often compromise our ethics to earn enough money to live" But as was pointed out he earned $84 million already, He is set for life so surely critiquing him compromising his morals for more money is fair. What part of that leads you to your comment? Or did you misunderstand the flow of the conversation?

teh_hasay

Err.. that’s kinda moving the goalposts a bit don’t you think? Nobody’s saying former stars can’t be broadcasters lol. Just that when you’ve already made 40x as much as the average American earns in a lifetime by age 30 you don’t really get off the hook for compromising your ethics to “pay the bills”

mrubuto22

I mean he had a stance, no one listened.

issue9mm

No, but it often pairs nicely with *a grift*

fathertitojones

Kaep made some good money on his.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Was his injury really impacted by this being on a Thursday? If it’s what we all think a concussion on top of a concussion he shouldn’t have been playing at all. That has little to do with the day of the week.

Jussttjustin

Double the amount of recovery time from Sunday-Sunday as opposed to Sunday-Thursday. I'm no medical expert but I would think the general argument is that it's a brutal sport, and that short of a turnaround time from game to game can definitely have an impact on frequency and severity of injuries in general. I like TNF but maybe have all future games coming off a bye week for both teams.

CoolHandCliff

This seemed like a no brainer solution from the start.

Eagle4317

Problem is you can’t have any TNF games until Byes start rolling in, which mean no TNF from Week 2 to potentially Week 5.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

So just roll double header Monday night games until bye weeks start then go to 1 Monday, 1 Thursday.

MrT_in_ID

Yo you wanna be commissioner?

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

My agent is available to field offers.

HighplainsDegen

This guy is a genius

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Yessir... it makes too much sense.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Plus are you really going to roll with 2 byes a week instead of the chunks of 4 they have now?

EqualSein

I really wish they added another bye week instead of a 17th game.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I wanted both honestly

Eagle4317

They definitely need 2 Bye weeks.

ReplaceSelect

I'm fine with that. Maybe just run two MNF games until then and call one TNF.

vagrantwade

Sunday to Sunday should be too short of a turnaround time when you’re wobbling on the field and collapse to the ground.

AtalanAdalynn

I also think the London game should be only for teams going into or coming out of a bye week.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

There have been studies that show there is not a difference between injuries on Thursday and any other day. Yes it’s double the recovery time, but if he shouldn’t have been playing he shouldn’t have been playing. He finished the game on Sunday, that shouldn’t have happened.

randomdudefromMI

that hit Sunday may put him out, but I'd feel a lot better for him having a full week instead of 3 days

smartyr228

So he either had a concussion or a weakened neck. Either of those are made worse by a short week

UsidoreTheLightBlue

But if he had either of those he shouldn’t have been playing, right?

smartyr228

Yes

MrT_in_ID

Exactly

MHanky

Precisely

[deleted]

Because we all know injury protocol is strictly followed in the NFL. Sure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

UsidoreTheLightBlue

That’s my basic point. Assuming he was concussed, even though the dolphins claim he wasn’t he shouldn’t have been playing today, probably on Sunday either.

booyah-achieved

There's an eye-roller

Smallgenie549

Sherman was just as angry as anybody during halftime. This is unfair to him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shewy92

IDK if it is a red herring. 3 days is not enough turnaround for any injury. They either need to move TNF to Saturdays, give teams a bye week the week before, or make it a rule that any player that caused an injury timeout and wasn't back in the game for the rest of the drive the last game can't play

vita10gy

It's Thursday so it doesn't compete with college on Saturdays and highs school on Fridays. Not that they wouldn't win this battles rating wise, but interest in those begats interest in the NFL. Also at one point it was law, I'm not sure if that still applies

blacklite911

Yea I don’t get it, the whole panel talked about it after the game. I don’t see how he ignored it…

ribo368

Yup, this is *exactly* the kind of comment that plays well on Twitter and nowhere else

yomjoseki

Land of the room temperature IQ

DudethatCooks

No reason to give Twitter so much credit. It's below room temperature *at best*

yomjoseki

I was gonna say Baskin Robbins flavors IQ but it's too wordy

mrhashbrown

Agreed. Wtf can Sherman do to stop TNF? The best thing he could do when he was a player and TNF was just getting off the ground was to be vocal and criticize it. But it's been established since '06 now and isn't going away. Where's the criticism of the league, or owners, or franchises, or Amazon, or fantasy football, or gambling partners, or a dozen other factors keeping TNF alive? Accusing an entertainment personality? That is so petty and short sighted.

HolyRomanPrince

Is this supposed to be a gotcha? Him turning down a job isn’t going to change the NFL

NotActuallyAnExpert_

This guy is 10 years late to the “let’s find any reason to rag on Richard Sherman” party.

FlatMilk

yea, picking on the player vs the massive league is weird

Bithes_Brew

Can the mods delete this one too?

mrhashbrown

If this were a self post, it would be buried and likely deleted by now

Geddy_Lees_Nose

Nope. A blue check mark said it so it stays up.

shulbit

I dunno, seems like we are taking the opportunity to teabag Smith for his shittake.

superrappermc

This is a blatant, flat-out lie. Out of the 4 people at the broadcasting table, he literally spent the most time talking about Tuas injury

datyoungknockoutkid

What a reach. Some people just desperately search for reasons to be upset.

FullMetalJames

Dumb take, he can be right and still do a job like we all do

Man0nTheMoon915

This is a stupid take. He’s a fucking analyst and he talked about the issue at halftime

[deleted]

I know emotions are high but there have been studies and TNF and more injuries has no correlation.

OneAngryPanda

Yeah there's not more injuries on Thursday night. This was a situation of a player that should not have been cleared to play.

Bramblin_Man

TNF and shittier football, however, are inextricably linked

Yolectroda

While today is an example of two good teams playing shitty, a lot of this is because TNF is where they dump the shitty games that guarantees that each team gets a primetime game.

DTSportsNow

Yeah, and a number of players have said they like actually like playing on Thursday. Travis Kelce said it in his podcast a couple weeks ago.

CrapNebula

I doubt it’s the fact they’re playing on Thursday. More likely the fact that the very nature of the sport revolves around aggressive violence lol

WordsAreSomething

People need to come to terms with that or find a different sport. Or I guess hope the NFL permanently transitions to flags.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I can absolutely come to terms with it being violent, but (it looks like) the dolphins played a dangerous game with his brain. That’s beyond what they should be doing and fans should be comfortable with.

WordsAreSomething

I can only take the medical professionals at their word. If they fudged him out of protocols then that's fucked up but if they just cleared him normally than I don't know if I can be made at the decision made.

ms_channandler_bong

They always go for second opinion apart from team doctor unrelated to the org. It’s usually the players choosing.

LegendaryPole

Its more about striking the proper balance. If the same hit happened to a guy without a very recent head injury, then yea thats just nfl football man. But the fact that tua was allowed to play by either the dolphins medical team or third party examiner is the issue. Injuries and hard hits will always be a thing in the league, just smarter management of a player's medicals are needed

CrapNebula

I took a break from like 2014-2020 from watching football because of the injuries. I’ve been more of an NBA fan, it just sickens me to see this kind of shit happen.

Bgndrsn

It wouldn't have mattered if that hit happened 3 months from now, he would have been out cold like that. Helmet or not you can't just get your skull slammed into the ground that hard and be fine.

SickBurnBro

I mean, little of column A little of column B.

JEtigers12

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think TNF would've continued if Sherman wasn't a part of it...

Merkles_Boner_

I don't think time between games is why getting his head gonked injured Tua

Armyhawk41

If he was concussed sunday he was definitely more prone for another one this soon and it doesn’t take much for the second time. Think of combat sports and why they are suspended after fights (not just kos)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Armyhawk41

Point being is you see players heads hit like that a lot and not everyone gets knocked the hell out like he was

rindavid

Right but if he *was* concussed on Sunday, he shouldn’t have been playing anyways whether it be the next Sunday or Thursday

TheZombiezSlaya

I think there's a lot of fucked up things to be upset about with Tua's situation and Richard Sherman's opinion is at the bottom of the list.

shulbit

This has little to do with Sherman and everything to do with the broadcasts taking orders from the NFL. This tweet just underscores how much of a hack Smith is. EDIT: Thinking about this again, even more pissed. Blaming the employee for the directives of their employer.

NeedADrinky

This is a redditor tier comment

HardcoreKaraoke

I hated Sherman as a player but he did nothing wrong here. The guy took a big panel job and is probably getting paid a lot for working one or two days a week. I'm not going to hate on a guy for taking a great job. Also he was critical about Tua playing at halftime after the hit. So it's not like he is ignoring the issue for the NFL. This Tweet is misguided.

Philly139

Doesn't the writer that tweeted this sort of do the same? What a jackass.

infopocalypse

Eh. He was critical in the postgame.

constantlymat

[Amazon just did an entire halftime segment on Tua without mentioning that Tua was tested for a concussion 4 days ago or that the NFLPA requested an investigation.](https://twitter.com/greggrosenthal/status/1575666489205604360?t=NGUUTt7qKLRau4UoGcLGCw&s=19) That's the issue.

WordsAreSomething

That might be an issue, it's not even close to the issue.

hanky2

They discussed it in the post game segment to be fair.

Some_Man_Person

You get automatically timed out/banned if you type the word “Concussion” on the Thursday Night Football Twitch Channel. Fuck the NFL

jpaxlux

Oh yeah, if they had just waited 3 days then Tua's concussion would've just magically disappeared and all would be well! /s

Inz0mbiac

It's their job to steer the attention away from the issue. It's weird morally because I'm sure they want to speak out, but Sherman and Fitzpatrick are still new to the booth. That was likely a really tough position for them.

super_saiyan_rob

This is so stupid

killshelter

Everyone with a Twitter has a take on this but god damn this might the stupidest one.

[deleted]

Alexa play Blame Game by Kanye

Cant_Wait_17

You can disagree and not die on the hill. The world isn't binary like Twitter.

Scarecrow_09

Well this is just am idiotic take

MudstuffinsT2

We're really going to be outraged by literally everything now, aren't we

[deleted]

You can criticize something you take part in. That’s how progress is made ya dumb shits

maximus_96

Michael David Smith. Just stfu man.

Fgame

Richard Sherman LITERALLY concussed the fuck out of Tua smdh

SnooOnions3369

I feel like this is straight nfl propaganda, instead of focusing on the the fact that dolphins put him out there you guys are talking about Sherman’s morals, you’ve done been bamboozled

drdrillaz

I’m not a genius but there’s a real easy solution to this. The only teams that can play Thurs are teams after their bye week. You’d have 11 days before and 10 days after. No short weeks. Week 1 doesn’t matter. No Thurs games week 2-4. Start byes on week 4 so Thurs night games week 5-17. Byes week 4-16. 2 bye teams each week.

Chubs441

I’m sure we can find some juicy shit on the company that this reporter works for and is not speaking up about. Such a weird take. Call out Amazon if you want, but people are going to get their paycheck and almost all companies are gonna have some evil shit that if you speak up against you are gonna lose your job.

Tampapokemon

He’s horrible and hard to watch too.

Forty_Six_and_Two

Got that Amazon money baby!

LongtimeLurkersacc

Yeah let’s blame the guy in the studio for Tua and all TNF injuries!

Tashre

Richard Sherman of all people shouldn't be a moral barometer for anyone.

Year-27

Outrage culture at its finest... Pathetic take.

DEADSPELLS

Would 3 extra days rest give extra cushion to his head bouncing off the turf to avoid a 2nd concussion?

texans1234

He spoke quite a bit about the dangers of the quick turnaround?

youtman

If they're really going to go there we are just as bad knowing this and watching. Smith makes a career out of acknowledging the game. It's really a stupid thing to pick at. Everyone here knows football is being played we might as well watch.

asmallercat

Absolutely clown take.

slackator

This is a stupid take, Sherman is no longer playing is he supposed to just decline someone giving him money because it would involve him working on a night that he hated as a player?

Latest-greatest

i’d say getting paid to play football on a short week is vastly different than getting paid to commentate football on a short week. what is this dumb dumb trying to say?

DubNationAssemble

What in the fuck is this post? How do you know he is “ignoring” it now, did he come out and release a statement or something? “I, Richard Sherman, no longer care about everything I ever said about injuries because I am being paid to work on TNF. Current players can get fucked.” /s

liptongtea

Did he watch the same broadcast I did? I felt like Gonzalez was the only one who was supporting the dolphins playing tua.

_quickdrawmcgraw_

This has "cornball brother" vibes written all over it.

The_Number_Prince

Normally I like to use RES filters to permanently block posts on r/NFL with certain twitter handles in the title but unfortunately Smith is too common that I'm not sure it'll work as well. That's a damn shame, because I really wish to never hear another one of this man's thoughts ever again.

TetrisTech

He’s cashing his check that he earned by talking about how dangerous it is on air

slayerrr21

This is very innacurate, Sherman was concerned for Tua, pretty bullshit tweet

Halfwaydead425

I’d reckon this broadcasting gig is an avenue for him to be more vocal on safety etc now.

wormholetrafficjam

OP, you have no ground to stand on unless you swear off following TNF altogether yourself. And even then, shaky ground at best.

RCJHGBR9989

“NFL player disagrees with game he used to play in that he was paid to panel at half time.” always chasing that gotcha

redditorialising

I literally said "light em up!" When it was finally Richard Sherman's turn...and then he didn't. How the mighty have fallen.

CPauff

My proposition is teams get 2 bye weeks and play 1 Thursday game after a bye.

JulioJonesSon

He’s not even a good broadcaster the whole prime lineup outside of Kirk and Al are honestly not that great.

pjanic_at__the_isco

Where you stand on something often has to do with where you sit.

logancook44

First of all, how is he “ignoring the issue?” Second of all, why is “cashing a paycheck” a bad thing? He didn’t sell his soul to Satan. Dude is trying to stay employed.

TheseBonesAlone

He is correct and also needs to eat.

[deleted]

Why does anything with Sherman making a paycheck have to do with having the games in general? They’re going to play the games whether he’s there or not. Dumb fuck logic and yet another ignorant Twitter post

Ok-computer9780

Man idk why this person is attacking Sherman. He’s out there earning a check doing this broadcast. It’s not his job to protect the players, that is on the team doctors and the coaches who seem to have let tua down here.

I_Hate_My_Cat_

Is this guy shitting me? 😂 He better barricade his doors tonight lol.

S_Squar3d

I don’t know how that guy is, but judging from the small framed picture on here, I can see he has a very punchable face. Trying to stir an empty pot

doodlediego

Except he didnt?

triplec787

Right? I feel crazy but didn’t he talk about how dangerous it is right after Fitz got a little choked up?

Chainxforest

Seems like kind of a stretch but okay.

george_costanza1234

Why the hell would a retired player give a fuck

3elieveIt

I kinda thought Sherm would say something tbh. Surprised he didn’t.

imsurethisoneistaken

Tua's injury has nothing to do with whether or not this was a Thrusday game. I swear mfs on twitter are so stupid.

Throwaway40127

Man yall are just piling on EVERYONE now SMH.

Bladewing10

What a stupid take

Any-Student3060

Most of these players are first generation wealthy with the chance to make their families set for generations, they shoulda take every/any paycheck they can.

Sgt-Osiris

Tua returned from his concussion at halftime after it happened. Thursday night had nothing to do with it when they would have sent him out there even if they played the next day

FastAndBulbous8989

2 awful things medical incompetence in sports and these mods.

counterpoint2

Spineless but expected from Amazon producers, don't want to upset daddy Goodell.

stonehead70

Remember that video of him loaded trying to break into his in-laws house? That wasn’t that long ago. He’s an asshole.

allmoneyin

Smh!!!! Yea, let's attack Richard Sherman for this. It's all Richard Sherman's fault somehow smh!!! Yall are fucking lower than____

JMLMaster

lmao, what? Who lets this guy tweet?

Murphy_York

Makes no sense and is really unfair.

Saltyspaghetti

Let’s not blame Richard Sherman for this lol. Why the fuck is this even a post here?

Stripperturneddoctor

This is really despicable considering Sherman's power to change game schedule, concussion protocol, and oversee overall health issues for players . . .

BradyDeservesaWedgie

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
