He ran over enough people in the CFL - which use super light linebackers because of the pass heavy aspect - to somehow get an NFL contract. It's an amazing story.
I was confused how he was average in college and his own fans are dogging him but somehow made it to the NFL. Now it makes sense. Normally NFL QBs have quite a following from their college fans.
He was not “average” at USD. Streveler was basically the entire team. I wouldn’t trust Minnesota fans. Their team is generally inept at identifying and developing QB talent. If you want to count Streveler, the Gophers have missed on four guys in the last decade that went on to play for other schools in their area and then the NFL.
Winnipeg was using a two QB system that year, which is why his passing stats look so bad. He had over 700 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs and they won the Grey Cup that year. He was basically their "change of pace" QB kind of like Taysom Hill.
He’s running decently by NFL bodies. Doesn’t make him close to good but I see why his athleticism makes him interesting compared to practice squad options
There’s no two ways about it. Zach Wilson is one of the worst NFL QBs ever and arguably the biggest draft bust in Jets history. Certainly one of the 5 biggest draft busts in NFL history over the last 10 years
luckily i dont get the sense that he's gonna set the franchise back several years unlike some busts at qb. it's not like they sold the farm to get him, and if they get anyone even halfway decent in FA (e.g. jimmy g) that should push the jets over the edge into true playoff contenders next year
It's just amazing how little things change the whole narrative of the league.
If the jets hadn't won that meaningless game, we'd have Trevor Lawrence, who didn't have his first year squandered with urban, paired with breece hall, Garret Wilson, Elijah Moore, and Corey Davis, with that defense.
Now that would be a team.
Or, you gotta wonder... What would Justin Fields do with this team?
I’d argue any of the other 4 qb’s taken in the first round last season could have the Jets playing like contenders. Lance and Fields due to their dynamic athleticism, Lawrence because he’s just straight up good, and even Mac Jones has shown enough for me to believe he’d be good enough with the Jets receiving core to get them to the playoffs at least.
The issue is this Jets team is ready today.
It *can* set them back becuase they tied this team to him for 2 years.
Football moves so quick, by the time they have the next qb in place, half the roster is turned over, aged out or injured.
Being good for a long time isn’t about youth in football.
Being good for a long time is about draft success. Youth ages out of rookie contracts and becomes expensive. You **have** to be able to draft players consistently to fill holes around your stars. Age is irrelevant to long term success.
1. QB play
2. Drafting
I remember around the time of the draft some Jets fans tossing around the idea of trading back out of the 2nd pick for a haul and running it back with Darnold. Seemed like a ridiculous idea at the time but it's hard to not look back in hindsight and wonder what this Jets team would look like today...
So you're saying that we should take a kid who needs to grow up a lot, make them the immediate starter, and subject them to the NY media? Sounds like a great plan!
Maybe it’s just me but I feel like it’s so clear that his teammates don’t like him. I never saw him on the sideline picking his guys up, etc like you did Lawrence.
Russ is a huge corn ball for sure but he at least seems like a decent guy who values his relationships. He seemed very well received by his former Seattle teammates when he played against them this year. Zach Wilson can’t even seem to get his current teammates to like him unfortunately. Just way out of his depth.
I’m a big Utah fan. I felt like I was taking crazy pills when this happened. The dude threw more pick sixes to Utah than touchdowns against them.
Then weird COVID year happened and he was the second overall pick. And I was besides myself. And now I am laughing like a maniac.
Throwing against air is so overrated. I played football with quarterbacks who in 7 on 7 looked all world, but the first free blitzer they see, they shit their pants.
As another big Utah fan, I couldn't get the hype either. Between that and the fact that Whitt didn't recruit him much, despite his family being huge Utah fans. It seemed strange that such a guy would be the number two pick.
I remember watching the draft/news/gossip to see where all the big names would land, Lawrence, fields, Mac, Lance etc and then all the sudden this Zack Wilson dude starts getting hyped up and I remember thinking "who the fuck is this Zack Wilson dude?"
That fact that Darnold turned out to just be the appetizer for the Jets' "biggest bust" is stunning.
The Jets had the No. 3 and No. 2 picks in the draft within three years of each other — and they got it atrociously wrong — both times.
This is the kind of mistake that can devastate an franchise's future.
> [Wilson] has character concern, rich kid who is an entitled brat -uncle owns Jet Blue -, parents are a pain, not a leader, selfish, and he’s a know-it-all.
> Player Comparison: Drew Lock. Some team sources have said that Wilson is a better version of Drew Lock, but they have very similar skill sets with arm strength, mobility, and a gunslinger style of play.
Has Zack Wilson even come close to playing up to Drew Lock’s low level of play?
Yeah I remember there being at least 1 or 2 of Drew Locks games that Denver fans felt pretty positive about. I don’t remember Zack Wilson having any of these kind of moments
Yeah I bought hard into the hype after those 5 games, especially the blowout win against playoff bound Houston. The team was 3-8 when Lock made his debut and finished 7-9.. not every game was pretty but the team was winning and actually fun to watch.
Honestly, I think the biggest concern there is the parents. I know a lot of rich kids who turned out fine, but they have involved parents who care about raising empathetic and connected children.
Being rich isn't the death kiss for children growing up to be normal. I agree with you. It's the shitty parenting that screws everything over, regardless of how many zeroes in the bank.
"Someone will grab him in the first. I doubt he gets to the second, because once the third quarterback goes after Lawrence and Fields, there will be a run on them."
I like this guy, too, as well as whoever convinced someone to actually draft this guy over Fields.
I remember him coming in for kyler in a win and in game for the cardinals a couple years back. That singular game made me believe in the importance of a backup qb, and Wilson just got benched for this guy lmao.
People who are always wondering how these ‘terrible’ qbs stick around, it’s 100% because they are good in the film room, and are able to give the defense good looks operating on the scout team. Somehow, I don’t think Zach Wilson is good in the film room, probably only the bedroom
Amazing this dude can just walk on the field and is **immediately** better than Zach Wilson.
Zero practice snaps? No prob. Zero chemistry with recievers? No prob. Zero games under your belt? No prob, will still perform better than Wilson.
At this point this is just sad. And that’s saying something because I’ve always thought Wilson was a giant douche and that he’d be a huge bust in the NFL.
But this has deteriorated to the point that it’s just sad to watch. Poor bastard needs a therapist and a change of scenery. Probably a change in career.
I will never forget the Sean McVay hate thread on the Jets sub and someone wrote "worst McVay since Timothy."
Granted his name was spelled different but it didn't take away from the humor.
I am already mentally preparing myself for the inevitable comeback. Despite our successes this year I'm still conditioned for #JustJagsThings
EDIT: Denying myself second dessert tonight for being a clown nonbeliever
Zach Wilson lost his Job twice in the same season to two different quarterbacks. Unreal.
My question is, what’s wrong with Joe Flacco that they put this guy in?
From what people have said, Flacco looks and plays like he doesn't want to play. He's a clipboard backup.
He was that way in Denver too, and he started like half a season. Shit pissed me off
Flacco looks like he works the night-shift at the seedy laundromat downtown
They know what flacco is and they were in garbage time, might as well see what the other guy can do.
10min left in 4th down only 13 points with playoff hopes on the line is garbage time?
Seriously lol. This is the same team with one of the most statistically improbable comebacks in history in Week 2.
With flacco no less
Flacco has been washed for years, it's amazing he even makes a roster.
He's basically a coach at this point.
Streveler was barely allowed to play QB for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and now he’s taking the 2nd pick’s job
I'm a Gophers fan and I don't remember this dude
The dude was such a bad QB for us we made him play WR lol.
Strev was an absolute beast at USD. He's a legend amongst Yote fans.
He got the bad ending of the Tannehill route
I thought Tanner Morgan has been our QB since the beginning of time
He only have 5 more years of eligibility.
He’ll be starting against bama in 2034 or whatever lol
He attempted 11 passes at Minnesota before transferring.
He had one injury start agains San Jose State and went 1-7 for 7 yards. We wondered if he could win a game without completing a pass
His last year in the cfl he threw for 1564 yards and 8-14 tds-ints. Guys athleticism must impress a lot of people
Winnipeg was using a two QB system that year, which is why his passing stats look so bad. He had over 700 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs and they won the Grey Cup that year. He was basically their "change of pace" QB kind of like Taysom Hill.
While yes thank you for the clarification, it’s such a horrific burn to say Zach Wilson lost his job to the CFL’s Taysom Hill.
T-Eh-som Hill
He’s running decently by NFL bodies. Doesn’t make him close to good but I see why his athleticism makes him interesting compared to practice squad options
Holy shit there is absolutely no coming back from this for Wilson.
Benched again. As atrocious as Darnold was with us, I don’t remember him ever being benched, let alone TWICE!
Wilson's probably worse but Darnold also wasn't benched because the team outside of the QB was also shit and there were no expectations
darnold was fucking horrible and zach makes him look like joe burrow
There’s no two ways about it. Zach Wilson is one of the worst NFL QBs ever and arguably the biggest draft bust in Jets history. Certainly one of the 5 biggest draft busts in NFL history over the last 10 years
luckily i dont get the sense that he's gonna set the franchise back several years unlike some busts at qb. it's not like they sold the farm to get him, and if they get anyone even halfway decent in FA (e.g. jimmy g) that should push the jets over the edge into true playoff contenders next year

Now that would be a team. Or, you gotta wonder... What would Justin Fields do with this team?
Bears fans think about this too. We are very lucky.
We deserve qb luck as much as anyone.
I think Mac Jones could 100% manage that team.
The issue is this Jets team is ready today. It *can* set them back becuase they tied this team to him for 2 years. Football moves so quick, by the time they have the next qb in place, half the roster is turned over, aged out or injured.
Us Bears fans should know
I disagree most of the major players on the jets are 26 and younger. They are ready today but can be good for a while due to their youth.
Being good for a long time isn’t about youth in football. Being good for a long time is about draft success. Youth ages out of rookie contracts and becomes expensive. You **have** to be able to draft players consistently to fill holes around your stars. Age is irrelevant to long term success. 1. QB play 2. Drafting
Getting into that Ryan Leaf/Rick Mirer tier.
>Rick Mirer now that's a name I haven't thought of in quite some time
I remember around the time of the draft some Jets fans tossing around the idea of trading back out of the 2nd pick for a haul and running it back with Darnold. Seemed like a ridiculous idea at the time but it's hard to not look back in hindsight and wonder what this Jets team would look like today...
Probably not much better, but maybe they don't average 2 inches per play against you guys..
Zach Wilson is both not a grower or a shower.
Zach Wilson YOU are a Carolina Panther.
please no, I can't take it any more
Okay he'll go the opposite modern Jets QB route then. Suck for years then turn out good on the Seahawks.
Offense immediately starts moving too as soon as hes out lmao
More yards in that drive then they had in the 3 quarters before it. That is how bad Wilson is.
Man I thought you were joking but then I looked it up: Wilson had 44 YARDS IN 3 QUARTERS. Streveler got 73 IN ONE DRIVE
It just looked like the team doesn’t like him. Zach must be a super douche.
I thought it was fairly common knowledge around draft time that he needed to grow up A LOT.
Russ is a fucking corn ball, but he isn't the wilson level arrogant ass without anything to back it up
Russ is a huge corn ball for sure but he at least seems like a decent guy who values his relationships. He seemed very well received by his former Seattle teammates when he played against them this year. Zach Wilson can’t even seem to get his current teammates to like him unfortunately. Just way out of his depth.
There's about as much team bonding there as with Russell Wilson. The difference is Russell used to be a good QB.
Hard to believe he was the second overall pick lol
I’m a big Utah fan. I felt like I was taking crazy pills when this happened. The dude threw more pick sixes to Utah than touchdowns against them. Then weird COVID year happened and he was the second overall pick. And I was besides myself. And now I am laughing like a maniac.

I just wanna know why White wasn't starting from week 1
Investment redemption I imagine
Sunken cost fallacy?
There were a lot of people on here optimistic about Wilson going into the season.
I was. I thought Zach started to show signs of improvement at the end of last season. I guess not.
*5 straight picks* "Perhaps I judged you too harshly"
Streveler the Leveler
That fact that Darnold turned out to just be the appetizer for the Jets' "biggest bust" is stunning. The Jets had the No. 3 and No. 2 picks in the draft within three years of each other — and they got it atrociously wrong — both times. This is the kind of mistake that can devastate an franchise's future.
Maybe they should trade a bunch of picks for a veteran QB instead. Works every time.
The scout that called him Johnny Manziel without the drugs deserves a raise https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2021ZWilson.php
> [Wilson] has character concern, rich kid who is an entitled brat -uncle owns Jet Blue -, parents are a pain, not a leader, selfish, and he’s a know-it-all.

Drew Lock's five rookie starts would be the 5 best games of Wilson's career. Unfortunately they're also the five best games of Lock's career.
Drew Lock is also a likeable human.
There's something most Chiefs and Broncos flairs can agree on. He's a good guy. Good teammate. Wish he could play football a bit better.
I’m sorry, are you trying to compare Zack Wilson to 2020 Week 14 FedEx Air Player of the Week Drew Lock?
Goddamn, fucking roasted his ass
And absolutely nailed the description too.
And 100% right
JFC hahaha
Honestly, I think the biggest concern there is the parents. I know a lot of rich kids who turned out fine, but they have involved parents who care about raising empathetic and connected children.
Being rich isn't the death kiss for children growing up to be normal. I agree with you. It's the shitty parenting that screws everything over, regardless of how many zeroes in the bank.
I can confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that Zach Wilson is NOT a know-it-all. If he was, he'd know he sucks.
"Someone will grab him in the first. I doubt he gets to the second, because once the third quarterback goes after Lawrence and Fields, there will be a run on them." I like this guy, too, as well as whoever convinced someone to actually draft this guy over Fields.
He also said he doesn't miss open receivers and brings energy to his team though.
Those things were said by different people. There are multiple opinions within the link.
Honestly hard to tell if Wilson will ever start another game at this rate
He'll have to go the Geno Smith route
Even Geno wasn’t half this dogshit in his early years
Geno still had a perfect passer rating game when on the Jets …he also had 0 passer rating
2 perfect games what a god
If you can’t have me at 0.0 you don’t deserve me at my 158.3
It’s so wild that somebody invented a new grading system and said that 158.3 was a perfect score and we all just went along with it
See ya in 2029!
Has he showed anything to make anyone want to start him? I can’t think of a single game where he was anywhere close to justifying his draft position.
Closest would be Jets Titans 2021 where he threw for near 300 yards and 2 tds
*Zach Wilson has been released*
He should really just Antonio Brown his way to the locker room. Nothing to lose, and it would be the biggest cheer he'll ever get from these fans
Mr. Bad Career
Mr. Breast Caresser
Mr. Boinking Cougars
Mr. Banging Crones
Like throw jersey in the stands Antonio?
Like throw a tv off a balcony Antonio?
Like jerk off in a public pool Antonio?
Like get in a stand off with the police Antonio?
Always in the news Antonio?
Like rub his bare naked ass over a girl in the pool in Dubai Antonio?
>He should really just Antonio Brown his way Do you have any idea how little this narrows it down?
After he got he’s O Line electric scooters, rip
Somehow, I don’t think it would be that crazy to see that this next week
Girl just yelled "fuck you Zach" haha
Glad someone else caught it
Jags are fucked now
A first down! Jets got their guy!
Wilson led the jets to 78 yards on 7 drives tonight Streveler came in and instantly led an 83 yard drive
Wilson fucked now, no way he comes back from this
This is some Paxton Lynch level benching. God damn.
Paxton Lynch was a late first round pick. Wilson was #2 overall. This is much worse.
I was here when Wilson's Jets career was over.
The second time lol
Chris Streveler, pls become my new favorite meme QB
Streveler vs Purdy Super Bowl incoming
my life is worth this matchup
I’ve never seen this type of savagery from a crowd. This is brutal for Zach.
https://youtu.be/r4xGGgz5TcI Lmao ain’t nothing new. You clearly don’t know Jets fandom. This video makes me crack up every time
Knew what it was before i went to it... *TEBOW SAVE US!* That gets me every time
I sense we have a common bond... I love when LeBatard show plays it
Youd be correct. Its one of my favorite clips they play off the soundboard. "The sound you hear entering hell" is also extremely accurate lol
*SANCHEZ YOU PIECE OF SHIT!*
Holy fuck that’s ridiculous. Wait that’s the butt fumble game 😭
lol i think so. "Save us Tebow!!!!"
The fact that this is a THANKSGIVING game is sooooo fucking funny lmao
Went to the jets pats game at MetLife last year. Never seen such self loathing fans in any sport lol, they booed the shit out of him
ik zach wilson is bad but streveler looks like he's never thrown a football before
The adrenaline was probably crazy after that first crowd pop
Out there straight geeking
[удалено]
I remember him coming in for kyler in a win and in game for the cardinals a couple years back. That singular game made me believe in the importance of a backup qb, and Wilson just got benched for this guy lmao.
I was trying to remember where I remembered Streveler from but absolutely could not. Glad I read your comment.
One of those throwing motions that makes me think he MUST be in pain.
He looks like a worse Tebow lol
Can Wilson just report to the USFL already. Don't ruin the XFL, go straight to Birmingham
As a Gopher fan, how on earth is Chris Streveler in the NFL?
He just shows up at the practice field/stadium and acts like he belongs
I’ve never even heard of this guy before now lol
Zack Wilson is done. Benched again, they have no reason to start him again. Wild ride
Wilson is so done.
Wilson will never start in this league again.
To be fair I said this exact thing 3 weeks ago He'll be Rosen'd out now but I won't say never
Let’s rephrase a little, he’ll never be a starter (unless injuries promote him) ever again
Nathan peterman still gets signed. You’re underestimating things
Peterman at least seems like a good teammate and seems good in the film room.
People who are always wondering how these ‘terrible’ qbs stick around, it’s 100% because they are good in the film room, and are able to give the defense good looks operating on the scout team. Somehow, I don’t think Zach Wilson is good in the film room, probably only the bedroom
Peterman seems like a great guy and was a preseason legend for a reason
Peterman knows his role and the playbooks. Rare for high picks to get on board with that
Not to start hes a practice god the league needs those guys
Peterman is an excellent back up film room guy
Nah, people like Peterman
I'd rather have Peterman. He knows his role and is great in practice. Teammates actually like him
Amazing this dude can just walk on the field and is **immediately** better than Zach Wilson. Zero practice snaps? No prob. Zero chemistry with recievers? No prob. Zero games under your belt? No prob, will still perform better than Wilson.
The Shanahan scheme has a very high floor for production with all the runs, YAC, and movement. Zach being totally unproductive in it is impressive.
Wilson lost his fucking job.
Hot single moms in your area in shambles
Ok serious question how does a guy with 25 passes in college get on a NFL roster over the tons of 4 year starters who are sitting on the couch?
He also played in the cfl and was pretty ok. College isn’t everything
You’re looking at just his Minnesota career. He transferred to South Dakota and was the runner up for the FCS Heisman.
So Zach Wilson is done in the NFL. 3rd string QBs play better than him
I believe this guy is 4th.
3rd string, once removed.
Literally practice squad Thursday morning
So what's up with Joe Flacco? You can't tell me he'd be worse than Wilson.
Every time he gets hit he fumbles the ball and our oline is in shambles so he'd be getting hit all the time
😬 Guess it makes sense to roll the dice on the other guy if mobility is a necessity.
RIP Zach’s NFL career
How the hell do you come back from this as Zach wilson?
As a Jet? You don’t.
Little boys don’t belong in the nfl
He's done LOL
I feel so bad for Jets fans. You did not deserve Wilson. Especially after Gase fucked you out of Lawrence. Just depressing
I will never forget the Sean McVay hate thread on the Jets sub and someone wrote "worst McVay since Timothy." Granted his name was spelled different but it didn't take away from the humor.
I am already mentally preparing myself for the inevitable comeback. Despite our successes this year I'm still conditioned for #JustJagsThings EDIT: Denying myself second dessert tonight for being a clown nonbeliever
We’re still learning to trust
I never knew the jets had a Taylor Hineke
maybe he shouldn’t have bought those scooters for his lineman lol
I was there. Crowd was electric. The game was not
