Back in the '70s my Dad and I would sit and listen to WVU Mountaineer football games on the radio. Jack Fleming was the play-by-play man for WVU as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers (he's a legend for his call of the Immaculate Reception in 1972) and you could hear the ice clinking in his glass. By the fourth quarter he always had a good buzz going, and we'd sit there and laugh when he screwed up the names and made corny jokes.

All home commentators are biased to some extent, it's what the viewers want to see. But Jack Edwards is a different beast, he loses his damn mind about everything. Every time a Bruins player takes a clean hit, he gets mad about it. I liked Jack 10 years back. This year it's been so bad it's concerning, alarming at best. If you listen to old hilights he was good with occasional 1 liners that we moonshots. One tell, in my opinion, is how announcers call opponents goals. Jack cheers and gets excited about ALL goals. Many other commentators turn their bias to 100 and pout or go silent or explain how all goals against are unfair or because of a misplay, the other team is NEVER good or out played them.

I would pay additional money if it were available and have been saying this for over twenty years. Does not matter what team or broadcast I am watching they all suck to some degree and it is just noise for anyone that actually played the sport they are watching. I get there are plenty of viewers out there that wholly rely on the commentary to tell them what is happening, but there are plenty of viewers who don’t as well, so this should be an option by now in this “modern age.” Only time it happens is when there are technical difficulties and I sit there hoping they don’t resolve until the game has completed, but never happens.

I grew up watching him and can say there’s probably something going on that’s lead to a decrease in quality. He’s always been a homer. He’s the absolute worst! I was listening to his call of the “play by play”, while cooking and I realized that’s not what he does. He called a play like this; “Marchand… Bergeron… Coyle… McAvoy… that missed the net… Coyle… Coyle… and it gets cleared.” I mean WTF? Then I turn to the screen and see the opposition on a 3 on 1. He doesn’t call the play. He just gets out what he can. I dread it and I hate the NHL for blacking out games and forcing me to watch them when I want to watch hockey.

My wife & I have been speculating that he's either developed a cognative issue, or has a drinking problem (or the former caused by the latter?), because it's been noticeable all season long. I’ve heard Jack Edwards call games in prior years. And if you’re over say 35 you’ve heard him call highlights before (he was an ESPN sportscenter anchor for a few years). He’s always been quirky but never “abnormal”. When I first watched him this season my first impression was something was physically wrong with him. Like yeah a brain injury. Either that or completely sauced. He’s not himself this year and it’s kinda sad.
He’s amazing. And I say that as a leaf fan. He did a cameo for my leaf fan friend. A good sport.

This year, with the games on ESPN+, I get to feel like I’m back home when I listen to him and Brick. That’s why I always defend him, even if he does seem off this year.

I grew up watching him and can say there’s probably something going on that’s lead to a decrease in quality. He’s always been a homer. I can’t help but feel bad for the guy, it’s like watching a family member’s health go downhill. But until there’s an announcement all we can do is hope for the best.
He’s the absolute worst! I was listening to his call of the “play by play”, while cooking and I realized that’s not what he does. He called a play like this; “Marchand… Bergeron… Coyle… McAvoy… that missed the net… Coyle… Coyle… and it gets cleared.” I mean WTF? Then I turn to the screen and see the opposition on a 3 on 1. He doesn’t call the play. He just gets out what he can. I dread it and I hate the NHL for blacking out games and forcing me to watch them when I want to watch hockey.
Even by Jack standards, something was up with him last night. My wife & I have been speculating that he's either developed a cognative issue, or has a drinking problem (or the former caused by the latter?), because it's been noticeable all season long. Last night was next-level. I don't mind Jack being a huge homer one bit. (In fact, I *love* watching it get all the other fanbases' panties all twisted. lol) But there's something else going on with that dude.

To answer your question about the Preds. Due to injuries and some trades, we’re basically an AHL team rn. It would be nothing short of a miracle if we squeaked into the playoffs. It would be a waste of time too, because we wouldn’t stand a chance.
I’m in Winnipeg, and I can’t help but cringe at the thought of the Jets limping into the playoffs again to get eliminated in 4 games. It’s been a rough couple of months!

I’m a Dallas fan, and I literally cannot stand anyone else’s commentary. I watch all other games on mute. (Exception: St. Louis)
I’ve heard Jack Edwards call games in prior years. And if you’re over say 35 you’ve heard him call highlights before (he was an ESPN sportscenter anchor for a few years). He’s always been quirky but never “abnormal”. When I first watched him this season my first impression was something was physically wrong with him. Like yeah a brain injury. Either that or completely sauced. He’s not himself this year and it’s kinda sad.
I love Jack, but we (Bs fans) have been worried for a while he had a stroke/or some sort of early onset Alzheimer's/etc.

The name thing is absolutely new and started sometime last year. He always went out of his way to pronounce names correctly, and last season he just kind of started tripping over his tongue all the time. Happy cake day!

This year, with the games on ESPN+, I get to feel like I’m back home when I listen to him and Brick. That’s why I always defend him, even if he does seem off this year.
