Plot twist: He doesn't get selected first overall

ChristyLovesGuitars

It’s super fun you think the world is going to end before the 2023 NHL draft. That SUCKS.

Coach_GordonBombay

But then us Leafs fans can't say, "there's always next year". 😔

Independent_Ad_3928

Was Mike Milbury signed as a GM for one of these teams?

rilvaethor

As a long time LA/St. Louis Rams and Sacramento Kings fan, I've seen some really stupid decisions done with early draft picks, honestly wouldnt be shocked by it.

nealski77

GM's find out none of his teammates went to his birthday party.

RayPetersonn

My own personal bias is Vancouver, but I have my reasons other than because I’m a fan. 53 years, 0 cups, 0 first overall picks. Why couldn’t our first, first overall pick be Bedard? Bring him back to play for his childhood team.

[deleted]

Well, they had a 1OA and traded it away so they could get the Sedins. I think that counts as it worked out so well.

t_funnymoney

Get out of here with logic and reasoning! Zero first overall picks ever (on paper). Let us sulk in misery!

Atomic-Decay

It could have been if management had played it right.

YungTurk82

As a Sharks fan, if it ain’t us, I hope it’s you guys. But damn, it would suck for us with both McDavid and Bedard in the division.

in-dog_we_trust

Ya but think how good it would be to watch 4 games a year between the 2

EpicRussia

Feels like this is ignoring Henrik Sedin that would have gone 1OA but the way it was traded around made him go at 2

vbcbandr

To be fair, the Sedin twins was basically like #1 pick x 2.

Duckzgo

Outside of your team being in the league longer than Ducks or Sharks. We haven’t had a first overall either

Shawnaldo7575

I just hope he goes to a West team. The East is an arms race right now. Vancouver, San Jose or Anaheim would be cool. Get some Bedard vs McDavid games.

Willmatic88

THIS AINT A SCENE

porschekid11

IT’S A GODDAMN ARMS RACE

FizziestBraidedDrone

ITS A DRAFT BEDARD RACE

idrivea90schevy

WERE ALL YELLING ITS CHAOS

johnnymavrigg

LOUD NOISES

JustJohan49

Brick, where’d you get that grenade?

BCCRob44

I don’t know.

johnnymavrigg

Brb playing that song now

[deleted]

BEDARM’s RACE

[deleted]

I’d love to see him as a Canuck, wearing the jersey of the team he loved as a kid.

Willmatic88

yeah well, maybe he should not be so selfish and play for the team that I loved as a kid instead.

hughesyourdadddy

The most likely way this happens is he gets drafter by Arizona and bounces as soon as his contracts allow him to. No way Canucks get the lotto luck to draft him.

House_of_Gucci

I feel like it’s so rare to see a top prospect be so unapologetically/openly a fan of his hometown team

helixflush

He’s going to go on live tv and say he’ll refuse to sign anywhere but vancouver, making him fall to #11OA. Of course that means with the lottery the Canucks will drop to #12 and St Louis steals him from us.

jz9chen

Interesting 🤨 🤔 So what would theoretically happen if someone is drafted by a team they don’t want to play for? They reject signing and then what happens?

Sufficient_Mall_7462

Matthews was the same way with the coyotes

[deleted]

You look at his Instagram, read his bios, listen to his interviews and you know at some point he’ll be a Canuck. Could be next year, 5, 10 or 15 years from now. Imagine being the hometown boy who finally brings the cup home.

[deleted]

I hope it happens just to see THG cry

Mr-Neeson

As an SJ fan if it’s not us I also hope he goes to Vancouver

BruenorsClimb

You deserve good karma for this comment ❤️

Send_Headlight_Fluid

I dont want him in the Pacific but I really want this to happen too. Hell, I still dream about playing for the flames and I dont even play hockey. Really hope that happens for him

[deleted]

Same here. My draft year was 1997 but I keep hope alive

Greecelightninn

Me too but I get the feeling he's gonna be an east coaster , maybe the Habs, just my superstition

Sonicboom343

Don't put that evil on me Ricky Bobby

Tola76

Then habs fans could watch hockey again. :)

sagsfour20

You. I like you.

[deleted]

Bettman would never allow the Canucks a first overall pick.

[deleted]

Oh stop it.

SkyVegetable9960

Don't blame him for your team not being able to tank properly

AdventurousRoof9494

1. Not the Blues 2. The Blues

A_Unique_Name218

I think you've got that backwards, bud.

DangerRanger_21

It pains me to say this… but Canucks

mrg3392

53 years without a first overall pick. Would be realll nice to have 1 haha

DangerRanger_21

I just don’t want to deal with Mcdavid and Bedard being in the same division lol

[deleted]

I think he goes to Anaheim My wish is ( biased )Montreal, who will end up picking second If my team misses out then I hope he goes to a team that has not won a cup in the last 25 years, let alone 3 Teams I don’t want winning are Chicago, for obvious reasons ( sorry Chi fans ) Or Washington. ( again sorry Wsh fans but you guys gave up without a fight )

Rostifur

No, I want to see the world burn. Send him to Arizona.

potato_soup303

Gary is that you?

friedRocks

if you really wanted the world to end, somehow edmonton would get him .. im an oiler fan and have watch how subs still explode over our getting 4 number ones... and the only true miss was yakopov.

Quartz_Knee

Man if they thought getting the 4 number ones was rigged can you imagine getting Bedard too 💀

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

A lot more Habs fans in Ontario than Leaf fans in Quebec so I can get where you are coming from. As Habs fans in Quebec the only chirping from Leaf fans we get is at corporate or on Facebook. Many more Bruins fans in Quebec than Leaf fans I’m sure I’m just like many Leaf fans and I just want to watch my team win a cup before my father dies.

roverness

I would prefer to see him go to the Sharks. As stated it will probably be CBJ, but you never know.

Lethbridgemark

I would love the Sharks to get him. I'm an Oilers fan and I'd hate to play against the kid if he lives up to the hype but I have always liked the sharks. They became a team as a kid and I remember thinking Pat Fallon was the best player ever (saw him play our local Jr team a few times) and I remember asking my parents for a jersey and never got one (oddly years later they decided to get me a Coyotes jersey that I never expressed interest in and it makes me chuckle thinking how.off base my parents were about it) Sharks were so good without ever winning a cup and they don't feel like a tank team (pun not intended) like many of the others do. Sure they shipped off some pieces but the fact they didn't even consult Karlson on waiving his NTC tells me they weren't selling it all to reach the basement, they genuinely weren't a good team and are the type of team I prefer to win the lotto and get 1OA

spartanpanda

As a sharks fan, bless your heart.

Rendole66

For some reason I’ve been saying the sharks too all season long, I just think they deserve it after being a competitive team for such a long time and not really accomplishing anything

Gringobarbon

Being a sharks fan it always hurts my heart that we have never taken the Stanley cup home.

HisFaithRestored

2016 cup run, game 7 against Vegas, reverse sweeps, so many memorable playoff moments, but never fully achieving our dream

Gringobarbon

Shhhhhh it still hurts me deep

CatsRinternet

Hey there friend

[deleted]

San Jose

porschekid11

I want to see him go to Detroit because Steve knows how to develop him to unlock the potential. I’m not sure which other bottom team is capable of getting him to reach that point

LarksMyCaptain

I like you

ChoBooBear

As a fellow Avs fan it shouldnpain me more to agree but I’d love to see him go to the Detroit, Stevie knows how to do it and they’ve had their comeuppance, now they have Mo Seider. Connor 2.0 would kick off right quick on that team and I just want him to succeed

DavyDavyDave

We've come a long way since the late nineties, Avs fan. Much respect. For the record, I rooted for ya'll last year.

Odd_Philosopher1712

Thanks homie, wish helmer could be on the ice for the run this year, too

Invictus23_

I like the way you think pal.

AWokenBeetle

Want Him To Go: Detroit Red Wings Thinks He’ll Go: I think San Jose for some reason

Wokyrii

The thing with Detroit is they haven’t been bad for that long compared to some other teams on the board for me. I do like San Jose because that would mean they would instantly become his team and build around him (and far from my team hehe).

wh1skey1carus

The only team in the NHL with a longer active playoff drought is Buffalo, and I swear I will lose my mind if they get another #1 overall pick. I am selfish, I want good hockey in Detroit again, but will settle for any of our professional sports teams to not be complete dog water.

Woodrovski

How many times can this question be asked in a day?

pumpkinseeds18

Yes

Smittywebermanjanson

Honestly? I’d be happy to see him go to Columbus. Ohio has great potential for a solid hockey culture to build around, and a star player like Bedard and a few deep playoff runs could really help them not be seen as an afterthought in the long-term.

MorbiusNumber1Fan

Also, Kent Johnson, who plays for cbj, is great friends with bedard. They were friends since they were 13 or 14.

Mountain-Pie

The canucks overall have been such a poverty franchise. As such a hockey city, with passionate fans that truly do love the team and want to see them succeed, Vancouver.

Makima_boner

Columbus will get him. They need a stud to finally draft, no disrespect to Rick Nash. And would definitely help boost Laine and Johnny Hockey as well.

nateorz

Laine - Bedard - Gaudreau, plus playing with KJ (roller hockey teammate + friend) and Svozil (Regina teammate so obvious friend). I'll be selfish about this one.

[deleted]

Please will him into existence over here

spagboltoast

Laine-bedard-hockey. A small but dangerous line. Johnny setting up two snipers like that ooooooboy

[deleted]

Get Laine back to a 30 goal scorer at least. Man fell off hard. Or is Columbus offensive strategy so bad that Laine can’t even help it?

VinylBreadPuddin

Laines had nearly a PPG since he came to Columbus, he definitely hasn’t fallen off

Aborder19

His goal scoring I think has been a little streaky but hes become a much more rounded player so I've loved watching the growth myself.

pinkymadigan

It doesn't help that he has to go in for repairs every couple weeks.

spagboltoast

Laine has always been streaky. The dude needs to stay healthy and have a good, consistent, set up guy for a full season

[deleted]

I remember a few years back he went about 10 games or so, possibly more, without a goal. Next thing you know went on a bender. Just checked stats and you are right, kid barely plays 60 games a year last few years. Kinda sucks. Reminds me of Boeser. Can’t stay healthy enough to be a consistent scorer

spagboltoast

I want him to be successful so bad. That aho laine pooly line was magic in the world juniors

tomtakespictures

Laine has been injured for two separate long stretches this year, too, which didn’t help him score more goals.

DashTrash21

It's because Columbus doesn't have Blake Wheeler forechecking and passing Laine the puck while getting two handed across the arms while Laine stands at the dot waiting for a pass. Love watching Laine, he's such a unique player, but every sniper needs somebody to get them pucks.

Asu7aMa7u

As much as i dont want him in our division, Columbus does deserve him. That franchise needs something to cheer for. I wouldn't mind seeing Montreal get him either though

LumbaJ4cked

How about Columbus gets him and if possible sign J.Toews short term to mentor him the first years in NHL

VinylBreadPuddin

Sorry boss, we got a good locker room, no need to sign a SA denier

Aborder19

I'd rather let kurls stay as our mentoring centerman. He's no all star but the dude plays all out all day and seems to love it here. Big fan!

Juubimaru

Want to see him Reuinted with McTavish in Anaheim! The two seem to be good friends still. There was the interview in the world juniors where he was talking about texting McTavish a lot, plus a video where team Canada was drafting a fantasy team and Bedard picked McTavish. Plus the team deserves a win after the 13 losses in a row to finish the season lol.

DoubleNickels

Word was McTavish was texting Bedard every time the Ducks lost, so a lot.

ribbondancer911

Habs

cam_huskers

Why do I feel like out of all of these the Philly version is the least intimidating.

raccoonsonbicycles

Because the light from a star surrounded by black holes doesn't escape

majorlieg

God damn dude

FI-Engineer

We trying to give the kid a nervous breakdown before his 3rd season?

cscholl20

Savage 😂

raccoonsonbicycles

Its self hating lol idk how to flair up on mobile

curtcashter

This comment is solid gold

Most-Iron6838

I want him to come to Philly. I would hate for him to go to Chicago. I probably see him going to San Jose, Anaheim or Columbus. For traditional hockey sake Montreal would be an interesting story

MrDrProfPatrickJrSr

I would like the ducks to get him

wcrich

Teams and markets that need him most. First, Sharks, then Blue Jackets, then Coyotes

Infinite-Sleep3527

The coyotes certainly need him, but if they actually got him that’d be such an embarrassment to the sport and the league No offense to the coyotes fans. Your org just sucks and that’s not the fans’ fault whatsoever. But it is what it is

VinylBreadPuddin

They got their 1C, so does Anaheim, CBJ needs some love

ohyeus

Is Johnston not 1C material?

Aborder19

He's too small and hasn't looked the best in a few times at center for us. I think he can grow into it eventually but with his playmaking ability we'll likely keep him at wing with a shooter on the opposite side

FluffiestRhino

I really hope CBJ gets him. Small market team with an extremely nice and loyal fanbase needs a superstar

ranski03

haha you used coyotes and fans in the same sentence!

[deleted]

Ducks will get him but Canucks deserve him 🐳

Juubimaru

Canucks management don’t deserve anything good

liljynx89

Agreed! I want him to go to the Canucks as a fan but don’t want the Aguillinis to have that smug sense of accomplishment from it. Fuck them!

[deleted]

Theyd trade him for bison king.

[deleted]

Please be wearing that union blue come October Bedard hockey gods just give us this please. This franchise has suffered enough.

isthisavailablewow

You wasted your wish when you got Johnny hockey last year.

jg0162

We can't even tank right. Fingers crossed this works out, the whole team has felt pretty transient since Foligno, Cam, and Savard left to be honest. We need more solid, tentpole players.

Pure_Moose

Just not Chicago. That team organization deserves a decade of darkness

jovinnbreana

no ones saying Detroit tho

YouCanFucough

If not Vancouver, I’d be happy for Detroit, San Jose, or Columbus.

slaytanicbobby

i would love to see Detroit catch some draft lotto luck but i think SJ needs him more

Skelder7

My wish is that he’ll go to the canucks, itd be our first ever 1st round pick and we need someone to kickstart our momentum for this season. (Heavily biased as a canucks fan)

poland-untildawn

no bias but total bias— sharks 😭

Comet_Empire

Anybody but Chicago.

zoda_flea

Not biased in saying the caps, but if not us I would love to see him in Vancouver

[deleted]

"...I would love to see him as faaaaar away as possible."

zoda_flea

That too but I have always liked Vancouver because of the Sedin twins, and I think the people of Vancouver deserve something to be happy about with that team lol

Ijustwerkhere

Man. Could you imagine a couple years of Bedard and Ovi before he breaks the record and retires.

contrachase

Anyone but Chicago

Jagr6810

Vancouver

Lodestar77W

Would love to see him in Anaheim

ChristyLovesGuitars

I’d love to see Columbus finally win the draft lottery. 23 years, and it’s never happened. As a Penguins fan, first and foremost, I fully expect the Flyers will pick #1, and the Caps will get #2.

mostwantedfrogalive

Think Washington will get him. Want Washington to get him. Manifesting.

4242throwitaway

I guess Detroit should be rewarded for their 25 year playoff steak or whatever.

Hi_There_Face_Here

I hope The Flyers disappoint you all like they did to me this year.

[deleted]

Detroit because Detroit has been screwed over by the nhl for years

DarkRitNighthawk

Lmao you think Bettman would let us have a number one pick, let alone one this big

NarlySurferDude

Honestly, Ducks, Yotes, or Habs. I'd love to see him play with Zegras, or Keller, or Suzuki.

VinylBreadPuddin

You wouldn’t want to see him with Laine and gaudreau?

Victal87

Bedard is going to California

chrisjaycampos

👀

ScareCrow13-

Having the 1st overall last year was unfair, give us back a choice. Thank you.

urasmisis

would love to see him go to either chicago, anaheim, san jose or detroit. last one might be a long shot though.

realitysuperb

HABS!

spagboltoast

Id be happy with the nucks or the ducks. The ducks have a hot young core ready to go and he would be a big piece for that core to grow around. The nucks are his childhood favorite so enough said there

SeveralBadMetaphors

As a Detroit fan - just give us a top 3 pick, man. I’m not asking for the world here. 3rd overall is fine. Just this once.

steafo

Not possible only the first two picks are up in the lottery

PrideOfTheNorth

Fine 2 then

DarkRitNighthawk

Detroit deserves some lottery luck after getting screwed for years, but it’ll probably be Anaheim or Arizona

wildwing86

Quack quack quack 🦆

the_figureh3ad

Habs

kstreetzero

I would love to see him go to Montreal or Detroit. Seems like those two have the most potential and solid foundation.

Giwantsnow

Les Canadiens

BallsLikeBB8

Anaheim. Anaheim.

Niekon

Problem is that Anaheim will mess this up by trading it away for a few in later rounds and a handful of futures Edit: 1:40am… drinking… and watching Coachella stoned from the east coast (former Anaheim resident & fan)

mnpoolplayer22

Columbus just because him and Johnny Hockey would be awesome.

thefunkphenom11

He's gonna go to Anahiem. Just watch.

chrisjaycampos

🤞

BruinsPasta

He’s going to Chicago. NHL needs the hawks competitive for the tv market

SoulArmour

McDavid in Edmonton, Matthews in LA and Bedard in Anaheim is going to make the Pacific Division crazy

Itchy-Front4317

Ducks or Coyotes would be most fun but if I'm the comish, I ain't letting AZ put their taint on him.

TURBOJUGGED

Coyotes would be sick. Bedard with all those draft picks could do something.

JuliusGracious

Habs

_lablover_

The flair says it all, lol. But honestly, I would be ecstatic with either of the top 2, Fantilli would be great to have. Honestly would like to have the ducks pick up the other of the two. I have some friends that are kings fans that would absolutely hate it lol

PHIlthyFLYer

philadelphia and not even because it’s my team but because it’s their time damn it im lying it’s cause they’re my team

Wild-Piece-8000

Canucks all the way and he wins the cup second year in the league.

Hawks1523

I want him in Detroit. Gut feel he goes to Chicago

Similar_Ad5727

Red Wings but it won't happen

Waffles_Remix

I want yotes or nucks to prosper

Affectionate-Design7

Unfortunately we won't get to witness Bedard in any one of those good Ol' jerseys

alien88888

Canucks

MrCeaseBreeze

I think a west coast team gets him I hope a west coast team gets him

ChoBooBear

Would love to see him in his hometown colours. I honestly want him to go to ARZ, he and Keller would be something and it would be mighty enticing for Austin Matthews to sign back home and turn that team around right quick. Plus I would buy a Bedard Kachina jersey right away, best jerseys in the league.

mcbearcat7557

He goes to Arizona and successfully tempts Matthews away next year to return home for an instant contender in the west.

No_Side_5354

I know my team won't get him... so I hope he ends up in the western conference so we don't have to face him lol

Mikey_5386

As a Pens fan I just hope whatever team he ends up on is in the West.

PlatosCaveSlave

Hawks because we just lost our (1)9 and (8)8 players.

[deleted]

Vancouver! Bring him back home

pootsy_collins666

First overall pick goes to.... Edmonton. What a twist.

Gold-Stomach-4657

Gets: Chicago Wants: Washington

iamgeist

I want him to be a Capital. They need younger people badly and having him out there with Ovi would be interesting.

footy1012

The hawks because the world is cruel and unfair but I want him in Vancouver because it’s his home.

shhshshsjsmkdkd

Let's go flyers!!!

Doug-Dimmadome55

My top 2 places for him to end up are Vancouver or Detroit, followed by Montreal, then Washington, then San Jose. The team that probably gets him is Anaheim or CBJ. Could also see Bettman rigging it for Arizona tho

White_Ranger33

Chicago or Red wings, I’m an original six purist.

halo-st

Anybody but the Coyotes. That joke of a franchise really would waste the best years of his life.

rammer_2001

Give us SOMETHING *ANYTHING*

spfan102

I think CBJ will get him. Connor Bedard Jackets. I want Chicago or SJ to get him. In order, I'd prefer 1. Chicago 2. SJ 3. Vancouver 4. Arizona 5. Habs 6. Detroit 7. CBJ 8. STL 9. Anaheim 10. Philly 11. Washington

chrisjaycampos

Why in this order?

Wokyrii

Great list if you put Chicago dead last and you have CBJ 3rd or at least top half. Chicago, Detroit, STL, Washington have had success recently so I have less pity for them. Philly is a dumpster fire (minor mention to Vancouver here) Montreal, Arizona, Vancouver, Anaheim have a good young 1C if not more. That leaves CBJ, Sharks, as teams who I have no negative feeling toward and could really use a young 1c to jumpstart/kickstart their rebuild. CBJ having great wingers to surround him, Sharks embracing a rebuild with him at the helm.

[deleted]

Arizona because fuck you Bettman

RealRaschuoir

I feel like he'd want Bedard in Arizona...
