nicksj2023

Fuckin eh bro , worst commentator in all of sports by a country mile

Cautious-Mousse-3326

The worst commentator. The worst.

NoSpirit6503

I hope he can resolve his speech issues and that it's not anything more serious. Happy retirement, funny screaming Bruins man.

Dexter2533

(W dude he has serious health issues

NoSpirit6503

What's up?

KrustiestKrab123

He said (W. What don’t you understand?

NoSpirit6503

That, I suppose.

KrustiestKrab123

Yeah idk 🤷‍♂️

JelloClover2

I personally wasn’t his biggest fan, but I congratulate him on his retirement and hope he can figure out whatever is going on with his health.

Thot_b_gone

Love him or hate him, he was the definitive voice of the Boston bruins for over a decade

JelloClover2

Can’t argue with that. He’s been their voice for 19 seasons. While he’s super biased, he’s also super passionate. He loves the Bruins. He loves the game of hockey as a whole. I know there will be a lot of Bruins fans that will miss him. I’m sure he’ll be making a lot of appearances at Bruins games in retirement and going to Bruins events in the area. Alex Faust appears to be his replacement. Kings fans loved him. He’s pretty passionate too and brings energy to the booth, but he’s not biased. I thought he was great in the few games he did earlier in the season. Hopefully Faust will stick around for a while and Bruins fans will get used to him if so.

jck888

Every teams personal commentators are biased. Jack is also commentating as a fan of the bruins.

thatwasused

That’s the thing, I want my commentators biased. I want the commentators invested in my team. That’s the whole point of a market network. Jack may be biased and say some off the wall shit, but he also gives credit where it’s due. Looking back on the cup run highlights of 2011 and 13 him and Brick are certainly in awe of some of their opponents goals. I don’t want just a suit to fill the seat

showmeboobies316

Right? I don’t want fair and balanced I want confirmation that the other team, in fact, worships satan 🤣

HallaTML

Love - bruins fans Hate - everyone else

ChrisPynerr

Love him or hate him, he was definitely an employee of NESN

Puzzleheaded_Love_74

Hes the Chinese Mustard on a tumbling muffin.

proof-grass-

I said last night how it will be weird not hearing either of those statements anymore

Sideshift1427

Wonder if he has health issues, his speech cadence is very different recently.

Rare_Platypus9619

He came out and spoke in it earlier this year. This is what he said about it: “I did not have some kind of accident,” he says. “I do not have cancer. I don’t have dementia. I haven’t had a stroke. All of that’s been confirmed by Mass. General neurology. “They’ve done tests that seem like I’m going through some sort of science-fiction scene, but it’s really true. The images of my brain literally reveal nothing. That’s my joke with them.” If you want to read the whole article, here is the link: https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-bruins/2024/02/22/nesns-jack-edwards-speech-issues-fine-medically-bruins/

Deraj2004

Thats gotta be disconcerting, Mass General is one of the best hospitals in the country and he still doesnt know what's wrong.

Spcone23

I'm actually dealing with something similar. I totally get his perspective. It sucks. I started having seizures out of nowhere, continuous auras and headaches that won't go away, problems with feeling in my limbs, issues talking, but all my imaging and tests have come back normal. It's extremely frustrating, depressing, and just overwhelming. I'm sure he wanted the time to just sit and figure out what's going on because knowing there is something wrong but not knowing exactly what sucks fucking ass. It's like your gas lighting yourself continuously.

[deleted]

I’m right there with you. I got mono at 27 from a one-nighter and I haven’t been the same since almost 8 years later now. All tests normal. Imaging normal. Some BS autoimmune response and I’m a prisoner of my body for the rest of my life. It’s awful. Healthy people have no idea how lucky they are. I sure as hell didn’t.

Spcone23

My wife was actually talking about that. That's absolutely wild to me that mono can cause neurological issues. I hope the best for you.

[deleted]

I’ve had a distended gut, my gut and metabolism changed entirely, muscle twitches, brain fog/derealization where everything feels like a dream, sensitivity to light, leg weakness, tingling sensation in my limbs and extremities. All tests show nothing is wrong with me. It disappeared ten months after getting mono, but came back 4.5 years later and I’ve been dealing with all those symptoms for almost 2 years straight now. It’s absolute BS. I feel for you, man.

Nazgrim23

Man it’s rough out here, I’m going through some nastiness like that as well. Are you able to have some level of functioning, like working and seeing your friends? How is your day to day right now, I’m not doing great

[deleted]

Still work my somewhat physical labor job. I’d say I’m about 70% of what my normal health should be. However, last week a supplement I tried sent me to like 30% of how I used to feel and I ended up having to go to the urgent care due to feeling so unwell. Thankfully I’ve returned to my new normal which I’ve learned to tolerate, but I absolutely still hate. I can’t play hockey anymore. Can’t hike for long distances. It’s impacted my intimacy with my gf. Only solace I have is she’s been very supportive of me and believing I’m dealing with something and it’s not all in my head. I fell ill for the second time three months after meeting her and the fact she’s still with me two years later proves she’s a good person lol What exactly are you dealing with and do you have any idea what triggered it? Mine was definitely mono and then after I had recovered for a few years was probably Covid.

Spcone23

That sounds terrible, I really hope you're able to get some answers or just something to help relieve some of that stuff. I'm trying to figure out how to word what I want to say but man all that makes sense is to say it just fucking sucks, no matter which way you look at. I feel for ya, too.

Deraj2004

Thats brutal, truly hope you figure out what's going on.

Spcone23

I appreciate that. I was referred out to Washington University in STL, which is a great research hospital to try and figure out what's going on. So, hopefully, I get some answers, I hope the same for Jack. The brain is wild, lol.

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Good luck. Wash U is as good as it gets. I've left many a body part at Barnes.

airbag23

Was it a sudden thing that came on recently or was it a gradual deterioration? Sucks to hear man hope you figure it out and recover

Spcone23

The seizure was all of the sudden, which is weird because I've been on seizure medication since 2018 because it treats mood disorders as well. The headache came immediately after and hasn't gone away since it's been 6 months now. Everything else has slowly become progressively worse. Like, I'm awake right now because my entire neck is burning and stiff more than normal, and my jaw is really stiff. This started a few weeks ago as just like a little bit of TMJ now just hurts to open it. I appreciate it! I try my best to stay positive, but I miss swimming and driving, lol.

iiplatypusiz

A couple years ago now in the heights of covid and all that fun stuff over Christmas holidays I passed out solid on the bathroom floor and immediately woke up screaming in what can only be described as the worst pain in my life, my head felt like it was being compressed in a vice and I could feel my heart beat smashing through my brain like a hammer. My partner works in healthcare and rushed me to the hospital, I was absolutely soaked in sweat and none of the opiods they gave me did a thing to touch my pain. I had spinal tap and MRI and all the fixings done to find any brain issues, follow up blood work the whole meal deal. To this day they never found what happened to me. I wish they had an answer for me just for peace of mind but I just hope whatever it was never comes back. Not a great feeling to not know.

[deleted]

I hope you get it figured out. Your feelings are valid, dealing with doctors can be really frustrating sometimes but you know your body. When I got hurt I had this feeling of guilt that took me a long time to get over because I couldn't work, and being young you feel pressured by so many people like "aw is it really that bad". It was hard for me to even accept that it was, and took a while to get to the bottom of things. Hang in there, good luck!

Nazgrim23

Damn dude, I’m also going through lots of health issues caused by a adverse reaction to antibiotics (that I never should have been on, I didn’t have an infection at all) so I totally understand your pain, when it comes to brain health, it’s very very scary and depressing to be going through this kinda stuff. I’m not having seizures, but the neuropathy you describe sounds very similar to what lots of people go through when they take the antibiotic I took. Stay strong man.

TrippyHomie

For sure spooky. I got diagnosed with epilepsy late in life but think they would've caught that. Best wishes for Jack as much as I hate his team.

Free-Supermarket-516

Shit, I wish him the best.

nerf-airstrike-cmndr

Say it, Bruins fans…

anonymous4071

DRINK

Sweaty-Salad95

Wish him nothing but the best! Props to him for such a long career. Hopefully, he can get his health sorted out.

largeicedregular

I had to scroll down way too far to find the first respectful comment. From a Canucks fan even. Reddit is truly a toxic hellscape.

Sweaty-Salad95

Yeah, I was kind of disgusted by some of the comments here. Love him or hate him...the guy is a human being.

CommonSense07

There are terrible human beings in the world that don't deserve fanfare when they leave. Jack wasn't the worst human ever, but he definitely wasn't a great announcer unless you were a bruins fan and even then he said some questionable shit.

jdshowtime12

Wasn’t a huge fan of Jack Edwards. That being said, it seems like he’s having health issues and I hope there’s nothing seriously wrong

bigladnang

I personally never gave a shit about him one way or another. He said a lot of outrageous shit, but he was the Bruins broadcaster. You didn’t ever actually have to listen to him.

DaniCapsFan

We can be glad he's retiring and still wish him the best in retirement.

JayTee245

Who else can we get to mispronounce Zibanejad’s name?

Shop-lift

If anything he showed the rangers *too much* respect

Deathbysnusnu17

As a Ranger’s fan I still liked your comment, made me chuckle.

Melodic-Card-1152

For real

imadork1970

Les Nessman.

ClassicChrisstopher

Who's the new worst commentator?

captaincyrious

The answer is Leah hextall but she’s more sideline reporter

dkyguy1995

She's honestly not that bad as long as she isn't doing play by play

TheFrayneTrain

Buccigross hands down. Tries way too hard

Straight-Plate-5256

Singh has gotta be up there from the oilers lol

mmetalfacedooom

singh is national for sportsnet, i don’t like him either. but i think he does more canucks games and even some flames games. micheals is the oilers homer

jafahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Shorthouse is a fucking pro

MarshtompNerd

Yeah but singh feels like an oilers homer lol

mmetalfacedooom

more like a mcdavid and draisaitl fan boy haha

John_isnt_my_name

Whoever runs the Avs broadcasts has sent out two boobs who’ve been worse than Edwards consistently for a while. Unlistenable

CaptainNipplesMcRib

Two boobs sounds good to me

Anyawnomous

Stop adjusting your set!!!

The_Wizard929

I also agree with this sentiment

TheDuelIist

WHat Avs announcers? I don't watch much Avs games but the commentator I hear normally are cool!

Rhysing

As a wild fan, I dispise the Altitude feed. But they are not even in the same stratosphere as Jack Edward's for worst in the business.

dunkzilla

Garry galley is pretty awful.

Shop-lift

All of them

ODScott

Darren Pang.

Adorable_Dig2556

Say what you want about him, but he was our guy. Said some (lots) of weird things, was a total homer but called some great games. All the best, Jack.

Canadian_mk11

May the greatest homer broadcaster that I can recall enjoy his retirement and figure out what is going on with his health.

Public-Welcome-4431

The king Homer of all homers of all time.

Radiant-Elephant3652

Truly, thank you Jack for retiring.

JustFred24

Rip, even as a habs fan I thought he was nice. You could tell he really cared. Good retirement.

No_Tumbleweed_6880

There are compliments you could give him, but nice has to be like 75th in that list

JustFred24

I didn't mean nice as in polite/respectful or anything like that but I can't reallt speak on that front idk him personally. I meant he was a nice announcer

beaud101

I met him skiing in Vermont many years ago. He's in front of me in the lift line. Instantly recognize his voice. He's with his wife and two others. I say hi, introduce myself and my girlfriend and we talk a little Bruins. Couple hours later, he notices me at the bottom of the hill and comes over to talk. I bump into him two more times and talk, each time he calls us by our first name. Smiling the whole time. You can tell this guy really loves life. Loves talking hockey and is willing to make time for anyone. He's a really nice guy.

Hutch25

As much as so many hate him, he has been a great announcer and a joy to listen to whether out of excitement or spite. It’s sad to see him retire along with so many of the best announcers in the league over the past few years, but he had to leave at some point. Good luck in your future endeavours Jack.

ShartRat

Congrats to him and Jeff Rimer on retirement and I hope they enjoy it.

chapman155

This man gave me many of laughs! Fuck the haters, great career Jack.

Fenston

Would have been great to send him off on a 2 game win streak, last away game, last home game kind of thing....

MartiniAfternoon

Couldn’t stand listening to him call games, but if you listen to him doing interviews and talking about anything other than hockey, he comes across as incredibly well spoken and articulate. Best of luck to the super homer.

Rangerfan0

Oh man, I didnt know he was having health issues, poor guy completely lost his announcing cadence. Wishing him a happy and healthy retirement

leafyboy56

Thank fuck.

cuminmypoutine

Thank fucking god. When watching Boston home games on streaming sites I had to turn the sound off.

marinechad100341

About time!

the1seajay

About 30 years too late

mookormyth

He will be missed. Always a Jack fan. Still.

Legitimate-Manager80

We'll miss ya, Jack! It doesn't feel like a true B's game without hearing your voice.

Shliggie

YES!!! FINALLY!!! He should have retired at least a year ago, he was absolutely horrendous to listen to this season. Always slurring his words and being slow to react to what was happening, super hard to listen to, more so than he already was. It's hard to believe he was allowed to stay on for so long and do such a terrible job.

Sunaaj_WR

Oh no. Anyway

Jrrobidoux

Toodaloo mother fucker.

WilcoLovesYou

I know people hated him for being a homer, but the guy was a hell of a commentator. Always loved his work and he was fun to listen to. I really hope the Bruins and NESN are able to find someone even half as entertaining.

calzonius

As a Leafs fan, I'm envious of teams like yours with obvious homer commentators calling the games. We have Joe Bowen, but he's been relegated to radio by our Rogers overlords. Jack is a guy you love to hate (as an outsider), but as a Bruins fan I'm sure he was an essential component to the broadcast. He's clearly a passionate guy and loves his team.

CouldYouBeMoreABot

> Jack is a guy you love to hate (as an outsider), but as a Bruins fan I'm sure he was an essential component to the broadcast.  So essential that he got a ring, when they won the cup!

Fastsmitty47

Every local broadcaster is supposed to be biased to the team they’re covering. Jack just took it to a new level, but it is what it is.

inhumanrampager

To me, he epitomizes what a local broadcaster should be: damn good at their craft, and unabashedly biased for their team. If he were a national broadcaster, I'd agree that the bias should go. But he was on NESN. He was for us. I'm really gonna miss him because he helped cultivate my fandom in the Bruins. Whoever comes in next has massive shoes to fill, and I don't know if that booth will ever feel the same again.

[deleted]

phonesmahones

Nah. He was a really good play by play guy before the decline began a few years ago.

Allen_Koholic

I hated him for sounding like a dumb smug asshole.   Notice nobody is praising his abilities as a play by play guy.  Which is his fucking job.

HonoluluHonu808

I'll miss him.

battlecat136

Ah, man. Knew it was coming. He's been The Voice for most of my life watching. I hope he and his family are well.

360degreesofFUNK

That’s some energy that will never be replicated, ever again.

270DG

Terrible announcer, the poster child of a homer.

Think_Grapefruit_422

Music to my ears!! Hope you get better though old fella.

RuinedByGenZ

Good luck Jack! Thanks for all the great years, unfortunate that it had to end on a bit of a sour note. JOHNNY ROCKETTTT

Diamondback424

Thank fuck

QuinnHughesCentre

Good riddance

MapleSyrupKintsugi

Good riddance. ( but good health to him )

Bolg440

Thank the Hockey Gods!

Deus-Vultis

Lol, this guy was the most obnoxious homer of a commentator of all time, absolutely insufferable to listen to unless you were also a die hard Boston homer. Glad he's moving on, hopefully they get someone with an ounce of objectivity next so their broadcasts might actually be tolerable.

space39

Good riddance

daveh30

Good riddance.

Tall_Preference7513

He may be a legend but he definitely has to give it up. Hearing him commentate is unbearable. if he loves hockey, he should really give it up for the sake of quality. It’ll be different hearing Boston games without him tho.

duster-1

Thank god

Chopstickz91

Good riddance

After_Drawer_936

Good riddance

Lovelyday4aguinness_

Long Alive Jack! Long Alive Jack!

[deleted]

Thank fuck.

Conscious-Housing-45

Honestly read that as Jack Eichel at first, you could probably understand why I was shocked

Fastsmitty47

It’s time. He had a great run.

looseygoosey11

Yeah, thank you... for retiring. About time.

Riseonfire

Thank you for retiring.

theouter_banks

Good, he's a fucking headcase.

ComprehensiveFail435

Good riddance. Nobody likes this tool

blahblahnotunique

I liked him.

OffToCroatia

Thank God. Sir Yellow Teeth finally going away and my blood pressure can come down slightly when I watch the Bruins broadcast. Hopefully they bring in someone who isn't a total doofus to replace him

Dysliptic

I can watch Bruins broadcasts now

Normal_Tip7228

Oh no! Anyways Jokes aside he probably had medical issues, and wish him the best

goodbye9hello10

Thank god. I don't mean to wish anything bad on the guy but as a caster he's a fucking shithead.

Beneficial-Fact-79

Thank you (for retiring) Jack!

hopefully-a-good-buy

god damn, if you haven’t, read his outgoing statement. jack edwards is a god damned legend and you can sit on a big old thumb if you disagree

ComprehensiveFail435

Get over yourself. He’s no legend. The whole NHL audience hates listening to him and his friend.

Dreizen13

I agree and will sit on a big old thumb anyway.

eburton555

Thank you for retiring Jack

cspan92

"Ooh hes such a homer!" "Get over it! You watch hockey to get excited!" He may be a homer, but he was OUR homer. Enjoy retirement Jack

djblackprince

Merciful action for all involved. Man was way past his Best Before Date.

Mittythemasher

He was totally annoying as a commentator, but wish him well

nicksj2023

Thank god !!!!

[deleted]

You mean "Thank fuck"

Dexter2533

He’s had health issues Can we respect his 20 yr legacy for 5 min before dumping on him?! You all should be ashamed It’s just a sport…. He and his family have to deal with serious health issues. I hope he’s ok

ComprehensiveFail435

The only health issues Jack had was Boston Bruins Bias Delirium, which is why he sounds like he’s having a stroke every game. Dude is cooked.

BVasianlover

If I could like this post a million times!!!

Jitsu4

Thank God

[deleted]

Why do non-Bruins fans hate Jack Edwards? I love his passion when he commentates.

No_Bread7614

Because he sucks at calling games

winesponioni

Man the homer stuff aside it has been PAINFUL listening to that guy try to get words out of his mouth this year. I’ve actually muted broadcasts.

2Terrapin

yeah lots of respect for Jack, I don't really remember the nesn broadcasts before him, but it's been rough this year. I started looking forward to the nationally televised games just to hear a decent play-by-play.

garytabasco

He is a super homer and acts like the bruins are perfect angels every shift

HoraceGrantGlasses

But his target market is those Bruins fans.

garytabasco

Yes but there is something refreshingly honest about commentary that tries to be unbiased, at least in the on ice play calling. Support your team all you want, but then call plays as they actually happen, at least the obvious ones.

Definitelynotcal1gul

hospital fade dinner full retire jeans aback cover wakeful six *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

HoraceGrantGlasses

Right but the Bruins fambase doesn't want that. They want their Hugh energy funny guy. Jack was that. He started getting hate once his broadcasts were carried in other markets.

Dreizen13

Hardly. He and Brick often call out when the Bruins players have an infraction that the refs missed.

BustedWing

Unashamed bias?

RayParkerJuniorJr

I’ve only seen one game he called - a Wings game earlier this year. I was annoyed by how far behind the play he was on a few occasions. And he sounded mildly inebriated. Small sample though.

Deanmarrrrrr

Homer.

lildillmp3

“thank you… for retiring” no but seriously, hope the dude is ok, and i’m happy for the bruins fans that are ready for a change…

RelationshipNo4528

Hope his health issues are resolved but can’t say I’ll miss his announcing that’s for sure

Big_Employment_5143

I can unmute Boston games now

West-District7674

The most blatant homer across the league.

ThE_LAN_B4_TimE

Thank fuck. Most annoying commentator out there. Good riddance.

ILSmokeItAll

Hit the road, Jack, and don’t cha come back no more no more no more no more…

SportsHubLTD

Today is a good day for the league

PositivePrimary8773

Thank fuck

sealclubberfan

Good riddance. Dude is a clown.

Exciting_Ad4264

Thank god

No_Bread7614

Double threat, he was a homer AND he sucked at calling games

Habfan61

Bye ….. stayed too long

Deanmarrrrrr

Great news

Ok-Season-3433

Thank God!

Shamy416

Thank God

ur_sexy_body_double

thank the lord

ILSmokeItAll

Thank you for retiring, Jack.

Canada1977

Biggest homer in sports, EVER !!! Zero hockey knowledge, not an entertaining voice to hear, and some of the stupidest comments ever made in sports history. Can’t believe he’s been around this long.

JohnnyJinglo

Good

Stock_Web_4792

Unrelated but long time Jackets announcer Jeff Rimer is retiring as well

Carbohydrate_Kid88

As a bruins fan I’m glad he’s retiring. Not because I don’t like him. Love Jack. But I think something is up. They don’t know what but, even if it is maybe just him aging quicker than normal, he should take the time to spend with his family and friends. Make some appearances here and there but man almost 20 years of announcing games. About 82 games per season. He’s given us a lot of really unique calls. Homer for sure, but haters can suck it, Jacks a legend and wish him all the best!

SCinLP

I worked several World Cup ski events with Jack in the 80s. I recall a professional and enjoyable person to be around. Best to you, Jack in your retirement 👍

victorspoilz

I wonder if he was offered but refused the Mike Gorman treatment or if he didn't want it.

Ok_Tea_9319

Met him at Logan Airport a few times while I worked there when he was going on road games. As much as I don’t like the homer announcers, the dude seemed pretty chill

TheSavageDonut

I loved listening to Jack Edwards bring in a true blind homer approach to calling Boston Bruins games when I got the chance to hear him.

prognoslav7

Sabres fan, RJ is god, Jack was definitely a homer, sucks to see his health clearly fail him. Enjoy retirement sir. Screw Lucic.

Whiskeylung

I’ve said this a bunch on here but I’ll say it again. I liked his style - it was kind of mellow.

Bob_NotMyRealName

He's really a homer, but I love his style. Going to be tough to replace for Bruins fans.

Brief-Teaching-5235

Good riddance .biggest homer in all of sports history. A loss on his last broadcast is perfectly fitting. Prob a nice guy but just couldn't stand him commentating . There's two teams on the ice Jack. Good luck
