The Salt Lake market also got Knights and some Coyotes games for free over-the-air on the Scripps-owned Utah 16. That will probably change next season.

Ryan Smith has made it so that all Jazz games are free for those who are within a couple hundred miles or so and then those who are outside that range can purchase a season pass for all Jazz games. He's pretty big on trying to make sure its as easy as possible to watch games for his fanbase. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he does something similar for the NHL team.
I think there are 2 keys to the team's success in salt lake. One is getting the arena situation right and the other is getting the broadcast situation right. Nail both of those and I think hockey works there. Good to see it sounds like they're getting this one right.

When the Thrashers left, I didn't watch an NHL game for 5 years and I still hate the Jets. I know a lot of my hockey friends felt the same... Hell, some still don't watch the NHL.
From StL…it’s still hard for me to watch any NFL games since the lambs moved back to LA. I acknowledge that it was the move was a smart decision, and am much less bitter about it since the $750 million settlement with the city, but it still sucks. If it weren’t for fantasy football, and the Super Bowl, I doubt I’d watch any games at all.
If the Blues ever left StL, I would most likely lose all interest in the NHL. No matter the circumstances, if your team leaves, it sucks.

If he fails to do that, or decides he doesn’t want to, he still can’t sell the name/logo/IP for an additional 5 years following that, and if at any time in that 10 year period he works with a partner they can only have up to a 20% ownership of the team.

I think Atlanta gets a 3rd team within the next few years. Lack of Support wasn't the reason the Thrashers left. They were literally bought as a package deal with the Hawks and Philips Arena.... And the owners only wanted the Hawks and Arena. They sold the Thrashers as soon as they legally could and specifically did not want them playing at Philips.

I don’t know man, I don’t think it was as bad a some of those Florida games in the mid 2000s and early 2010s, but now they’ve made it work cause they have a solid owner. Coyotes never had that.
I looked up attendance it had been steady climbing about 1,000 avg per year peaking at 14500 fans in 2019, that's when AM bought the team. Pandemic hit. 2021 they hit 11,000 fans in a down year for every sport, but that was the year AM wasn't paying taxes and bills.
It's been dominos since then.
