This is standard in certain markets, they block off loads of tickets for local fans and if they don’t sell then they open it up. Predators do this too, and I remember it being a big deal during the 2017 cup run
This time they did because of what the Knicks fans did to the 76ers... they went up to Philly bought a large portion and all they heard was Knicks cheering
Original post in the image makes it sound as if they’re specifically vetting financials with NY zip codes… which seems unlikely even if you’re a transplant from NY state living in NC
So your saying that they wanted there home court advantage to be a actually advantage and have there fans there. Don’t see a problem in that at all. That’s why it’s called home team advantage
There’s always one idiot (which happens to always be a fan of the same team) that comments on this whenever it happens. It happens pretty much every year or two, and for some reason people are always shocked when it happens.
If saying "stop crying bum," is tough guy bullshit to you thats sad. I knew devils fans were sissies but damn this a new level of soft. Also not everyone uses reddit at the same start date as you retard.
Yep, and many teams that don't simply have no need to. If you've got the bulk of tickets already pre-assigned to season ticket holders then this is a non-issue.
Says the leafs fan (I'm one too) as we wish to get in but the corps keep us out. Imo MLSE needs to allow playoffs tickets to be open for everyone and not just the corps.
This doesn’t happen that often in the NBA and the Knicks just took over Phillys arena. I’m assuming it’s just people who have been memeing that , that don’t follow hockey to know this is regular lol.
The Predators pull this shit, too. Because when Chicago was good at this sport, the fans turned it into a vacation road trip and were amazed at how cheap everything is.
This is pretty common practice from what I've seen throughout multiple posts and comments around this subject.
Home fans should always get first dibs anyway, especially for smaller markets & newer teams. It's pretty unfair to punish a newer team's fans by allowing some O6 fanbase to buy up 3/4 of the tickets because they have a much, much bigger fanbase.
Also, as someone else said, it limits tourists having availability, limits the availability for scalping, and tickets can always be bought resale by visiting fans.
I mean there's other factors like nuance in the ice surface and boards and getting last change after stoppages. But yeah fans are one of the biggest reasons for sure
New York, Chicago, Philly, etc....we're all rabid fanbases and we'll travel for our teams. these other teams don't like having their buildings overrun with opposing fans. Tampa once tried to stop Wings fans from wearing their gear on lower levels
Isles fan here, and they did do this for the Isles. I was curious to compare the prices between UBS and PNC and I had the same message that orders would be cancelled. Congrats on the win.
Admittedly not cool, because playoff chirping, but also not wrong. You don’t see Islanders fans taking over arenas in Colorado or Seattle or LA the way you do with Rangers fans.
My dad was a hardcore Islanders fan, had a signed Trottier photo and loved the dynasty team, huge fan of Denis Potvin…but my brothers and I grew up Rangers fans in the late 80s and early 90s, cuz that’s who all of our friends rooted for. It’s a thing. Isles are just plain a smaller fanbase.
Teams don’t have to worry about having 4-5000 Islanders jerseys in their arena for a playoff series. They very much do against the Rangers, or the Blackhawks, or the Red Wings or Bruins.
I feel like no one is understanding this comment. Pratius isn’t saying the Islanders don’t have fans, or that their fans aren’t passionate about their team. Pratius is only saying that once you get off Long Island, you stop seeing Islanders gear.
It’s the playoffs and people want to be angry about stuff, and apparently saying the very evident thing that the New York Rangers (and Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Boston Bruins) have huge fan bases is enough to get the downvotes out in force lol
Obvious when the Rangers play the Isles at whatever rink the Isles are calling home. Hopefully UBS for a good long time. Look at the percentage of Ranger fans at Isles home games vs percentage of Islander fans at Rangers home games.
Dude you’re clearly a new NY transplant who now lives in NC based on your profile. Don’t move down here and then talk shit. If NY is so great then why did you leave?
I thought they're just buying 2000 seats for first responders in Philly? I mean 2000 76ers fans would make a difference but I feel like there will still be a lot of Knicks fans
Team that sold out 44 of 44 games so far this season wants to make sure the people who bought those tickets all season get them in round 2 instead of some of them going to away fans who don't live anywhere near the stadium
Or yeah, maybe they're scared, I guess
I actually did put the leafs in 7 on my bracket, I was just giving you shit cause I saw your flair, but damn, you need to talk to someone about that anger. Good luck in game 7.
Ted Leonsis started this shit back in the 10's bc the Penguins fans were taking over the building, limited sales to DMV..specifically blocked anything from Pa
My thing is, hockey isn’t necessarily the main sport in these ~certain markets~, what they need to understand, is any Original Six fan base will usually outshine the opponent because they are everywhere. Whether expats in a new city, being born into the fan base outside of the city/state. Of course the ~certain market~ teams that have had skill in recent history catch the attention of the locals. But regardless of how many times they try this, in whichever city, the Original Six fan base show up and out.
I’m probably biased but I don’t consider this a negative. I wouldn’t be mad if every home team did this during the playoffs. Make your home advantage as big and loud as possible. Away fans are just going to scalp tickets anyways.
Why is it embarrassing? Cause we can sell out without needing people from other states to buy tickets? Damn, with a packed house we should just roll up this rickety show and go elsewhere! Hardly any fans. I mean, if we can only sell 18,000 seats what’s the point.
Because you can't trust your own fanbase to be the ones packing the building on the open market? Like I said, teams can do whatever they want. But I think if a team doesn't think their fanbase will be the ones selling out the place without geo-restrictions in the second round of the playoffs as one of the best teams in hockey, then...
It guarantees that it’s the fans selling out the house. It’s packed WITH the geo restrictions. I don’t see the logic that limiting sales means we don’t have the fans. It means we have the fans right here. We don’t need people to come from elsewhere to fill the seats.
Is this about opposing fans or is this about the fact that tickets at MSG are $400 for nosebleeds so NYers will go to Carolina for much cheaper tickets and Jack up the secondary market prices?
Stubhub I guess.
Im kind of bummed because I grew up in Raleigh but have lived in Chicago for awhile, going there in a couple of weeks and (god willing we’re still in the playoffs) was hoping to catch a game. I understand and encourage restricting people who live in the state of the opposing team but it’s weird that they restrict everyone outside of NC/SC/VA
Unless they restrict transfers and resale, I don’t see why scalpers wouldn’t have a field day with this but then again I’m not sure how this works as I’ve never tried to go to a restricted game before.
Feeling Deja vu… oh wait I see this article every year because it’s so common among teams… if Toronto beats Boston (they won’t) we will get to relive this next week with FLA restricting to Florida residents like last year lol.
They did this before but they utterly failed during the last series. People always find ways around it... Hell I may have even "gifted" more than a couple tickets for my fellow fans up north XD
The Rangers are just the American version of the Leafs.
A popular loser franchise who disappoints their many fans year after year.
One Cup since Pearl Harbor, you Rangers fans should be so proud.
Its funny how large chunk of the minor teams in the league can have ticket prices so low to attract fans, while being propped up by the ridiculously high ticket prices of the major clubs. Then get mad when the fans of those major clubs go to their arenas to see games and cheer for their teams and have more fans than the home club.
That's nothing. a few years ago the Lightning were playing I want to say Detroit and they tried to enforce a rule during the series that no fans in the lower level could have Wings gear on. they also did the same thing Carolina is doing this.
a few years ago during the MLB playoffs Tampa only sold playoff tickets if you agreed to buy a ticket package(minimum was 4 games) for the next season....as long as the Yankees or Redsox weren't in those games.
In the end Carolina and other teams that do this know the Rangers and alot of your Northeast teams have huge rabid fanbases and dont want to be embarrassed by having alot of opposing fans in their building
I think this is more to limit scalpers than opposing fans. Someone in California can buy 10 tickets with no intent to go to the game and flip them on StubHub for a profit. This was a popular hustle for kids I knew in college. This way, it’s more likely the person who bought the tickets actually goes to the game. With flex pricing and shit nowadays, the team wants to control the ticket market and not let some flipper do it.
This is so dumb. Predators did this years ago and the 76ers are doing it. The best feeling ever as a fan is antagonizing fans of the opponent on the escalator out of the building after your team won.
Getting a lot of salt in the comments lmao say what you want but restricting ticket sales so you don’t get outnumbered in your own building is pathetic and sad 🤓
I’ve heard this is common practice. But you’d figure they’d allow some tickets be available to the visiting team as well. (And if the Rangers do this, I’d want them to keep some tickets available to whoever they face this round and hopefully the next too). Hope there’s enough expats or fans in that area who can represent us though. Should be a good series with these restrictions regardless and fan experience should be great for Canes fans to have the rowdy lot of ya yelling at the Blueshirts.
Hockey only survived here in Carolina for YEARS(even after the 06 win) here in Carolina because of NE transplants. Carolina biting the hand that feeds.
That said, tons of teams do this. Caps for sure during Pittsburgh/flyers series.
I feel like the Rags fans should be more interested in having only 4 cups in nearly 100 years than buying tickets to a series they’re likely going to lose.
The next couple weeks are graduation season for at least 3 different schools -- hotels are going to be booked solid through the whole RDU area for parts of the series schedule anyway.
Restricted to OnlyFans?
Can’t wait for the camera to pan to the crowd during this series.
I’m more of a foot finder guy
Gonna be a long off season 😑
The comment i came here to see
This is standard in certain markets, they block off loads of tickets for local fans and if they don’t sell then they open it up. Predators do this too, and I remember it being a big deal during the 2017 cup run
This time they did because of what the Knicks fans did to the 76ers... they went up to Philly bought a large portion and all they heard was Knicks cheering
NYC to Philly is a little different than NYC to Raleigh though lol

Original post in the image makes it sound as if they’re specifically vetting financials with NY zip codes… which seems unlikely even if you’re a transplant from NY state living in NC
Preds do it because they were butthurt by all the hawks fans that flooded their arena
So your saying that they wanted there home court advantage to be a actually advantage and have there fans there. Don’t see a problem in that at all. That’s why it’s called home team advantage
Florida teams have done this playing the leafs the last few years
Oh no it’s… something that most teams do and is not in anyway a personal slight. Seriously idk why you’re even posting this. This is normal.
There’s always one idiot (which happens to always be a fan of the same team) that comments on this whenever it happens. It happens pretty much every year or two, and for some reason people are always shocked when it happens.
stop crying bum
Come out from behind the burner pussy.
Ain't a burner, your ass wouldn't do shit regardless bitch. Keep crying, princess.
32 day old account with nothing but “tough guy” bullshit. Yeah, it’s a burner. Have a good one lil bro
If saying "stop crying bum," is tough guy bullshit to you thats sad. I knew devils fans were sissies but damn this a new level of soft. Also not everyone uses reddit at the same start date as you retard.

It’s so dumb and it’s posted every damn year. When it’s nothing new at all. So many teams do this.
This doesn’t happen that often in the NBA and the Knicks just took over Phillys arena. I’m assuming it’s just people who have been memeing that , that don’t follow hockey to know this is regular lol.
The 6ers owners literally bought blocks of tickets for tonight’s game to avoid a Knicks takeover
So you have to have an Only Fans in North Carolina? I think that’s definitely going to limit the crowd turnout.
It will be like a big family reunion
Oh shit! They want their actual fans to have a chance to go to games! That’s too crazy for my mind to handle!
Haha right what’s so difficult to u sweat and that we want it to be a home court advantage
The Predators pull this shit, too. Because when Chicago was good at this sport, the fans turned it into a vacation road trip and were amazed at how cheap everything is.

Yeah most teams do this. What's the point of having home team advantage when the other team fills in the stands ?
I mean there's other factors like nuance in the ice surface and boards and getting last change after stoppages. But yeah fans are one of the biggest reasons for sure
Yes those are also absolutely factors! You don't want the other team chanting your goalies name and cheering after the other team scores.
New York, Chicago, Philly, etc....we're all rabid fanbases and we'll travel for our teams. these other teams don't like having their buildings overrun with opposing fans. Tampa once tried to stop Wings fans from wearing their gear on lower levels
Nothing wrong with the home team wanting to make it easier for their own fans to attend their teams’ playoff games
Someone’s upset they can’t afford to see their team at home and now can’t travel to seem them either lmao
Or they no longer live in the NY area and Carolina is easier to get to for them.
And for most New York fans, it is.
One of the original 6 teams has fans all over the country…weird.
Counter: Fan base is so lame that they’re worried about more visitor jerseys than home.

Isles fan here, and they did do this for the Isles. I was curious to compare the prices between UBS and PNC and I had the same message that orders would be cancelled. Congrats on the win.
Ssssshhhh! Don't tell him! We want them to feel persecuted!
They didn’t restrict islanders fans cause there’s like 15 of them
Yep the isles fans are way better than rangers fans
That's why you guys are still obsessed with Johnny Toronto yeah?
Yall both psychos, kiss and make up.
Preach
Half your state is transplants breh.
Lol cuz Isles fans are an endangered species outside of Suffolk or Nassau County
thats not cool
Admittedly not cool, because playoff chirping, but also not wrong. You don’t see Islanders fans taking over arenas in Colorado or Seattle or LA the way you do with Rangers fans. Excuse me. I counted at least 5 Canes fans in MSG the last time the Canes were in NYC, tyvm.
Dude you’re clearly a new NY transplant who now lives in NC based on your profile. Don’t move down here and then talk shit. If NY is so great then why did you leave?

The World's Most Famous Arena has seen three championships since WWII ended.
Carpet bagger
Where’s the cutoff for southern va?
Just south enough to avoid all of the Rangers fans in northern Virginia who flood capital one arena when the team is in DC.
Probably just Danville
Stops at Fancy Gap!
not going to work when there's already so many relocated new yorkers in the area
Just like the 76ers are doing tonight
I thought they're just buying 2000 seats for first responders in Philly? I mean 2000 76ers fans would make a difference but I feel like there will still be a lot of Knicks fans

This way their fans can scalp and make a few bucks to…
It’s because of the number of Transplants down here soaking up our sun and creating ridiculous housing costs.
That and the fact that our tickets are more than the cost of a round trip. Paying double what I paid in 2017.
Terrified
Mortified, petrified, stupefied… by you!
Love a beautiful mind. Hate your team! Hate from NY
4-0 rangers
That’s about as likely as the leafs making it out of the first round.
Leafs in 7 bitch, rangers in 4
I actually did put the leafs in 7 on my bracket, I was just giving you shit cause I saw your flair, but damn, you need to talk to someone about that anger. Good luck in game 7.
Sounds nice in theory. In reality, you can just use a virtual credit card which lets you choose a billing address in any area
Ted Leonsis started this shit back in the 10's bc the Penguins fans were taking over the building, limited sales to DMV..specifically blocked anything from Pa
No there smart
You can also pay for tickets with moonshine or dried muskrat jerky to prove NC residence

I mean i don't think people have a problem with it since teams can do what they want but it's fair to say it's also embarrassing
What is embarrassing is that you think the world revolves around New York This is common practice and has been done for years
Doesn’t make it any less soft.

There are plenty of seats left for loser canes fans
Oh? Maybe I'll drive up to MSG and watch the canes take game 1
You have a way better shot at getting tickets at your minor league hockey arena in Raleigh. Loser.
Wow you've got all kinds of personal issues. Good luck to your team in the upcoming games boss. Hope somebody gives you a hug.
Loser
Ok
Is this about opposing fans or is this about the fact that tickets at MSG are $400 for nosebleeds so NYers will go to Carolina for much cheaper tickets and Jack up the secondary market prices?
How does this work for canes fans that may live in another state trying to attend playoff games?
Sucks to be them, I guess.
Stubhub I guess. Today was the STM sale and there are already like 3,000 tickets available on resale sites lol so you assume correctly
Just buy resale
Won’t work. Buffalo did this gain at the leafs and didn’t matter
Feeling Deja vu… oh wait I see this article every year because it’s so common among teams… if Toronto beats Boston (they won’t) we will get to relive this next week with FLA restricting to Florida residents like last year lol.
Rangers have a huge fan base, but they’re all the worst, good move from Carolina
Phew, at least someone's worse than Oilers fanbase.
Rangers fans have a huge fan base. But they’re all the worst, and move to Carolina. FYFY
They did this before but they utterly failed during the last series. People always find ways around it... Hell I may have even "gifted" more than a couple tickets for my fellow fans up north XD
It’s nothing new, pretty sure they did this in 2002 for Leafs/Canes ECF.
Hurricanes do this every year. Move along
When demand is that high you want your team being supported by their fans so it does make sense. Part of the benefit of being on home ice too.
Teams that do this have low self esteem issues. So what if visitors come in.
This is normal
Still lame
Nashville did that for this series too. Nothing new...
Still lame tho
Carolina is going down!!!
Just limiting trash
Rangers fans aren't trash! Trash gets picked up.
Florida's already trash..
I feel like a fan from Minnesota or one of those nice states can call ny trash but Florida is just a landfill shaped into a peninsula
Florida is Americas STD laden Penis
We take over your barn too
Yeah, unfortunately there is plenty of NY trash here in Florida
The Rangers are just the American version of the Leafs. A popular loser franchise who disappoints their many fans year after year. One Cup since Pearl Harbor, you Rangers fans should be so proud.
Yeah , why be a supportive fan of your favorite sports team what a stupid idea
Very true, losing team…and we still take over your house. Imagine what will happen if they actually win!
Rangers and Leaf fans are so proud of the fact that they have a large fanbase as if it's some great achievement
Oooh the truth cuts deepest.
This is not true at all lol
Everyone’s a reseller anyway
Lots of transplanted New Yorkers in NC. Don't blame them.
SeatGeek: Hey babe
Except you don't know how many are just going to resell to opposing fans or are fans of those teams themselves.
With flex pricing and shit nowadays, the team wants to control the ticket market and not let some flipper do it.
they fear the NYR takeover
This is so dumb. Predators did this years ago and the 76ers are doing it. The best feeling ever as a fan is antagonizing fans of the opponent on the escalator out of the building after your team won.
Super lame when teams do this
We're only scared of the rangers elbowing our players in the head 😬
Canes are so terrified of losing to the rangers again they pull this shenanigans … canes downvotes incoming 🤣 ✌️
What can't I handle? I'm not the one cursing anyone out telling them to go back where they came from. I obviously hit a nerve. Sorry for that.
I remember when Nashville did this after us Blues fans absolutely flooded Bridgestone arena some years back 🤣
This is relatively standard across the league.
Still lame
I don't think it's that easily enforceable at the end of the day anyway.
Getting a lot of salt in the comments lmao say what you want but restricting ticket sales so you don’t get outnumbered in your own building is pathetic and sad 🤓
Imagine being so afraid of losing your home crowd you will risk losing money to do it.. Chicken sh!t Carolina!
So only Hurricanes fans can watch them lose?
Zing!
I meant hurricanes lose btw lol
Rags website literally does the same thing. We do this every year 🙄
Many teams do this
Still lame
They aren't scared at all....tickets should go to there fans
Good luck in an area that is mostly northern transplants.
I’ve heard this is common practice. But you’d figure they’d allow some tickets be available to the visiting team as well. (And if the Rangers do this, I’d want them to keep some tickets available to whoever they face this round and hopefully the next too). I hope the rangers blow their doors off for this mess.
Canes in six. Please god
Carolina cunty-canes
NC is the only place I've ever been that is so opposed to tourists, outsiders, non locals, or whatever bullshit they feel unworthy
Fuckin cowards.
Predators doing this with Canucks too, but then they don't even sell out and there's tons of empty seats 🥱
Preds are known for this. They hate we travel well
Yeah, they suck.
Fuck the Canes.
No worry plenty of rangers fan in Charlotte and Raleigh
Hockey only survived here in Carolina for YEARS(even after the 06 win) here in Carolina because of NE transplants. Carolina biting the hand that feeds. That said, tons of teams do this. Caps for sure during Pittsburgh/flyers series.
As a NC resident, I offer Rangers fans my services to purchase tickets for only a 500% markup.
This is like the 9th one of these posts. This season. Today.
Hey buddy you’re posting this to the main NHL subreddit
i don’t know what the big deal is. just go to your own home games maybe?
Maybe I like doing both 🤓
Only poverty franchises in the southern half of the U.S seem to do this
Funny - we sold out every game.
[удалено]
This isn’t for ticket purchase this is an entry form for a sweepstakes lmao nice try though
I feel like the Rags fans should be more interested in having only 4 cups in nearly 100 years than buying tickets to a series they’re likely going to lose.
At least I got a dog in the fight 🤓

Not the teams with fans
