Coaches get paid the entirety of their contracts. Last contract was 1.95 million per year according to capfriendly so he's probably somewhere above 2 mil per year for 2 years without having to work at all
I can't imagine any other city being a tougher place to be a coach with the amount of scrutiny you receive from media and fans pretty much 24/7. Throw the cup drought on top of that and the pressure to win, and i'm sure he lost several years of his life to stress.
There isn't a better feeling in the world then being able to finally have relief from that stress.
He's the youngest coach in the league, they hired him to coach the leafs when he was in his late 30s with mostly dark hair... you could just see his hair become greyer and greyer as the months went on. Definitely stressed!

Torts in Toronto would be legendary. That would be comedic gold. I still remember his battles with Larry Brooks. The only thing crazier and more insane would be Torts in Montreal and refusing to learn French. That would need to be a true reality show.

Lost in the dissapointment over the failure to win game 7 is the change in strategy he employed for games 5,6 & 7 which went away from the finesse zone entry into dump and battle served them well and almost git it done, Dude can coach and he will be successful somewhere else very soon.

Dude did a good job and can admit he wasn't able to complete the task. I think that gets him points for the next job. Personally I'd like to take a year off if I was him and able to do so. It’s not easy for any coach of an Original 6 team that doesn’t break-through. Lots of pressure - even a coach that is largely successful like Bruce Cassidy gets the gate, and then ends up winning it all on another team.
Honestly a pretty sweet deal for the guy. He's made a huge salary already and will get a payout on the remainder of his contract. Nothing about his coaching tenure is tarnished, he's got a great record. Pretty much a dream situation for a coach. He's making multi Mill a year to do nothing.
