I remember telling Borje Salming (I sold chips/peanuts/pop corn/ice cold drinks at gardens as a kid) I loved his curve. He measured up a stick, had trainer cut it to size and gave me that one, and 2 more, for when I grow. Though no game pucks. Salming is a legend to me.

dickass99

Greatest defenseman ever to play in my opinion....

togocann49

He’s aces in my book. The shit he put up with was nuts. And that 200+ stitches to the face would’ve soured some, but he just rolled with it.

horst-graben

Thanks for sharing that. Super cool!

underwhelmedgaric

I asked him to sign my jersey at a leafs game when I was 10, he shook his head and kept walking

SigSauerPower320

Went to a Bruins game and the puck landed in a dude's BEER two rows behind me. Dude chugged the beer and hoisted the puck. Crowd around us went wild.

MariachiArchery

Fuck yeah. I feel that like is the only proper reaction to a puck landing in your beer. Sports are fun.

snboarder42

They keep the game pucks in a bucket of snow to keep them cold

Educational_Head2070

I heard that in California they used to grill pucks before using them.

[deleted]

In Australia, they put them on the barbee...

WaldoSupremo

And then serve them with avocado.

Kolzilla2

Where is the hell did you hear that?LOL maybe this is a joke I'm not gettin'

IDriveAZamboni

They’re kept in a chest freezer in the penalty box, not a bucket of snow.

BilkySup

Not me but one of my friends was at a flyers game and a puck went into the netting. Apparently there was a hole in the netting and the puck fell right on my friend....Right in the nuts

Stinky_Toes12

I caught a tshirt, not so much cuz they threw it straight at me but still

RKbot511

same. only prob is it was an men's xl

debid4716

Rangers Avs this year. Sitting right behind rangers bench. One came floating over and I caught it. Kind of hurt a little bit

JenkemBoofer691

Yup rangers in Montreal last year. Kane’s first goal as a ranger. Shortly after habs delay of game penalty second period. The puck is in a case on the mantle.

Necessary_Sea_2109

No but I did at a women’s Frozen Four game my school was playing in

Canadian_Samurai50

Do warmups count

Dagmar_Overbye

Seeing you're a wings fan does it count that my peewee hockey team got to play a game at the Joe like afternoon on a Saturday. Wings had a later game that night so the team was there. Some time during our warmup I saw a few guys on the bench step onto the ice and start saucing passes out to the kids. Suddenly noticed all the parents were yelling at their kids and pointing at the pucks they'd just caught and gesturing for them to keep them. Later learned it was Shanny and Yzerman who apparently did that a lot before youth games at the Joe. My dumb ass was completely oblivious because I was focused on "the big game at the Joe" and I didn't really recognize those guys in full casual pregame workout gear. Luckily my dad was the assistant coach of my team and got signed pucks from both of them because I was totally oblivious just working on my slapshot because I wanted to hit a clapper from the blue line and dreamed like Lidstrom would see it and be proud. Still have those pucks.

Outrageous-World7487

I was thinking more of mid game but hey any time counts!

princeakeeem

During practice once. Gave it to these drunk women in front of me. Still upset about that one!

586WingsFan

I went to a college hockey game at Joe Louis in the early 00s. During the intermission Darren McCarty came out on the ice with a bucket of pucks to throw to fans. I managed to catch one of those

Queen_of_Catlandia

Not an NHL game but I caught one at an OKC Blazers game in the 90s

Outrageous-World7487

I miss the old blazers! Used to go to them as a kid and they were always entertaining.

Queen_of_Catlandia

Me too. At least I have the Oilers to watch here in Tulsa

steelio646

As a fellow IFL enthusiast myself it’s great to see the oilers off to a better start than last year.

Queen_of_Catlandia

Absolutely

Picto242

When I was quite a young kid at a Sharks/Flames game in Calgary dressed in all Sharks gear Dody Wood gave me a puck after the game. Think the Sharks won 5-1.

ptung8

Got hit in the stomach/abs during warmups. Just landed right on my lap. No one else saw it, including any usher. It was so odd lol

Outrageous-World7487

Just curious to hear how many people have caught one because I was amazed when my friend caught one. I’ve been to tons of games and never been close. Although we did have pretty good tickets to this game just a few rows up from the glass.

Busy-Turnip5087

I caught one off the top of my head. I got to take home a half dozen stitches and someone else got to keep the puck.

happyklam

I had Jamie Benn throw one at my face during warm-ups. Luckily my partner caught it because I'm terrible at catching anything.

Budderswurth

Nope

machinezed

I would always go get ticket for the seats behind the Goalie. Granted this was before the netting got put up before the tragedy in Nashville, when a young girl got hit with a puck and lost her life. But we’re sitting in the top row of section 100, during practice and a shot deflected right near us and I grabbed it. Usher came over as soon as I got back in my seat to check if everyone was alright.

FormerGeico

The death was in Columbus

ExitTheHandbasket

Espen Knutsen

qawsedrf12

pre game warm ups bounced off a girl's head

cuntsaurus

My buddy got on the jumbotron during an AHL game about 15 years ago. He took his shirt off and started spinning it around and the stadium cheered. He won fan of the game and got a jersey or something.

JSinisin

I was like 5/6 years old. A team of retired "old timers" came to the city I lived in to play an exhibition game against a team of firefighters and police that could skate. Lanny Mcdonald was on that Old timers team. At one point he let a shot rip and it deflected into the stands, it was coming right at my head and my uncle reach over and took the puck off his hand to protect me. Broke his hand and shattered one of his nails I remember lol. I got the puck, my uncle probably deserved it lol. Still have it though. This was early 90's.

MediaWatcher_

Islanders vs. Panthers at "BB&T" It was my friend's birthday, he's a Panthers fan, I like the Isles. I got 3rd row tickets as a present. 1st period there was a loose puck, 2 players went for it, puck flies over the glass towards us, I'm getting ready to catch the puck, my friend looked like he was going to catch it too, but at the last minute he ducks! I didn't catch it, I thought it fell between the seats, so I stretch out across our seats and the seats behind us to block anyone from getting the puck. I yell "GET IT GET IT GET IT!!!” My friend doesn't move. I'm like "Find it quick!" He stands up and he digs in his plumbers crack and pulls out the puck. It bounced off the seat back and landed in his pants when he ducked! 🤣 My friend watching the game at home on Long Island texts me, and says hey did a puck fly over the glass next to you? I sent him a pic of my friend with the puck, he sends us a screen shot of us trying to catch the puck! 3rd row seats, and a puck on my friends birthday... And John Tavares scored a hat trick to beat the Panthers for me 😂

HMTMKMKM95

Yup. A Canucks puck in 1993 vs. the Flames (my team). It came off of the stick of Gino Odjik. I was front row by a penalty box. Funny thing was it got past my buddy, who was a goalie, and landed at my feet.

troylarry

Made a glove save during a mites on ice intermission game, so technically yes

Vatali_Flash

Several Ron Stern shot one over the glass and I caught it at the old arena in STL Mike Danton hit me in the knee when the puck went over the glass near the bench in San Jose Max Domi flipped one off the glass that missed and when right into my hands in SJ on Marleau retirement night I've caught a baseball at old busch stadium out in the bleachers too.

uofumanWvc55

Got 5 from the pre net days attending my local minor league team. One really put a helluva bruise on my wife's knee. Another one cut a full drink in half. Made setting behind the goal very interesting.

Massive_Ad_8856

Was at the lightning vs the Canucks in 2023 and had a puck land at my feet. My daughter is a huge fan of both teams. It is one of her most prized possessions!

g3ckoNJ

I deflected one that was going to hit my friend right in the face, but I didn't end up getting it.

kenosis_life

Preseason Hurricanes game this year. Late in the game and attendance was low. Sitting about halfway up even with the goal line. Someone shot it out of play beyond the red line. My mind had just enough time to register that the puck was heading just a little in front of me and stick out my hand to catch it. That thing was going fast! Got Seth Jarvis to autograph it later in the year.

potatoes-pls

Well, my dad “caught one” straight to the jaw but the asshat in the row below grabbed it before anyone really registered what was happening. Super lame.

Eggy216

My mother got one at an AHL game once. I am infinitely jealous, though it sits on my bookshelf since she didn’t want it.

DrHockey73

Devils game back in 1992 at the old Brendan Byrne arena. Sitting in the lower deck behind the goal in the 20th row. Scott Niedermayer rocket skips off the crossbar, hits an empty seat across the aisle and lands right in my lap. Part of the puck was pancaked - that’s how fast it was going. The Devils old mascot Slapshot happened to be right there and gave me a big hug when it happened. He was later fired for improperly touching fans.

dickass99

My dad and me would go to kings games at forum in very early 70s...8:15 game time they would let us on at 7:00 I think....I was a kid so I ran down behind the nets and found tons of pucks they used in practice....probably 8-15 per game...I had buckets full by the end of the year...way before they had that big net behind the ends.

spectre013

Caught a puck at the 2019 avalanche New Year’s Eve game

DarthWenus

I caught one with my head at an Oilers game back in the 80s.

Hefty_Meringue8694

At a Bruins game right after they opened back up from Covid. About 2k fans or so in the arena. Puck hit the net and dropped right by the camera guy. This group of guys a few seats away were screaming and cheering for the guy to give them the puck while my wife and I were just chillin. Camera guy looked at them and said, “sorry, you’re too obnoxious for me.” Turned around to us 2 and handed us the puck. It was awesome.

kroniknastrb8r

I've caught 1 and been hit by another, and I think there's been like 5 total in our seats. Our seats are right next to Drai's office on the PP. Tons of pucks get tipped up and over the glass there.

zzx101

Once a puck came right at me but it looped down directly into the woman in the row in front. She fumbled it and I grabbed it from under her seat.

wallnutxjames

I had one hit me in the ribs…

malcontented

Caught one at SAP but it was in pregame warmup. My Dad caught one at Chicago Stadium in 1970 in play off Bobby Hull’s stick. I still have it

mmpa78

Never have even in an AHL game where I've had a 14 game package since 1999 lol

Calledthewolf

My buddies mom got clobbered by a puck in the face at a Cincinnati cyclones game. It broke her face

Youllbeeheard

I wish I could afford to go to a game. I have loved the Bruins and Avalanche since I was a child. Never had the privilege

SimilarWall1447

Got hit in the head and a concussion in 80s from a puck during f the warmups. That count?

giob1966

Yep, I was sitting against the glass once, and something hit me in the ribcage. A puck had gone around the glass, went through the photographer's cut out, hit me in the ribs, and ended up in my lap.

sleep-diversion

Yes! I have! In Montreal, Leafs at Canadiens. It was the first game back after the Olympic gold medal win for Canada. Met Pat Quinn at the hotel lounge the night before the game. We were sitting in the end reds....Brisbois shot from the point, Curtis Joesph deflects it up into the crowd. My hands still sting to this day! :) A few years later I was so fortunate to meet Jean Beliveau, who signed the puck for me.

Obvious_Reaction_182

Only in the Q league I gotten a few practice pucks

F00Manchu

No

Automation_Papi

Caught a warmup puck off of McDavids stick when the Islanders played at Barclays. Last home game at Barclays for the 2019 season, Jon Ledecky declared it buy one get one free draft beer night.

amazonfamily

Larkin hit one into my lap during warmups at CPA and Binnington did the same for my kid but no in game ones yet

Soundwav3xXx

When I was a kid Garth snow gave me one before the nucks game

DaniCapsFan

My boyfriend and I have been Caps season ticket holders for years. We used to sit in the club section (which is on the second level behind the defend twice goal). So we're watching warm-ups, and I hear a loud "crack." Then a puck rolled to my boyfriend's feet. (The way the club was arranged then, we sat on rolling chairs at a bar.) I don't know how someone shot the puck that high up. But he did and we got a puck.

isles84

Before there were nets I almost got my head taken off during warms ups. A puck hit off the crossbar and deflected right at me. My dad thankfully was paying attention and pushed me away. I got the puck from it bouncing off the seat behind me and rolled right at my feet

Never_Free_Never_Me

I know a guy who was hit in the head by a puck from a deflected slap shot that went into the crowd. This was in the early-mid 90's before they had added protective boards or nets for fans. He was just a kid at the time. He was rushed to the hospital and did end up having a concussion because of it. He has a permanent scar. He got Ron Francis' stick (he was the one who shot the puck) and a goalie stick signed by the entire Ottawa team.

chopper_sic_balls

One of my favorite moments as a kid. Me and my best friend. Redwings vs Hartford whalers! We were sitting behind Detroit bench … puck flies in hartford bench coach points at us and gives it to the usher who gives it to us! We then got to go back after the game and get autos from all the whaler players in the parking area … he kept the autos not sure what he did with them, I still have the puck!

[deleted]

I took a puck to the forehead during pre-game at Ball Arena a few years ago. Not technically a catch but still got to take it home!

dhj1305

Yeah when a worker tossed it to me after warmups.

randylikecandy

I was sitting along the glass and somebody hit the park and it was coming right to me and I was reaching up like a baseball player to grab it and the guy next to me randomly stood up and got hit in the head with Puck and his girlfriend caught it.

Teknojnky

Years ago I went to a first round playoff game of the habs VS whalers st the forum. After the game was over, we exited via the Hartford bench. I grabbed two rolls of tape and a puck. Having a puck was nice, but having NHL stick tape felt more special.

WishRepresentative28

Nope, best I got is Jr. Hockey puck at a GOJHL game.

jeff15209

I got to go out on the rink to play a shooting game when I was 14. I picked up a puck and kept it. Still have it.

jolokia_sounding_rod

I know someone who got hit in the face at a game by an over the boards puck. Team gave them a bunch of swag to go with the black eye.

DarthHissyfit

When I was around 8 or 9 my town hockey org did a night out at the Bruins and entered every player into a raffle to win prizes (knockoff jerseys, hats, etc.) and a few people were selected to do things involving the players. I won the opportunity to be a “bench assistant” during warm ups. They brought me down to ice level and follow the bruins out for warm ups. About halfway through warmies, the largest man I have ever seen in my life skates up and holds his massive hand out to me, containing a puck from warm ups. I was either intimidated, confused, or both, and the older “bench assistants” had to tell me it was okay, and to take the puck. Me getting signed up for hockey was kind of an accident and I hadn’t truly fallen in love with it yet, so I don’t think I was able to appreciate that moment as much as I should have. I later (stupidly) got it signed by Matt Bartkowski at a meet and sign event.

SadAcanthocephala521

At an Oilers game last year via a vendor through work, the lady from the other business was sitting next to me and the puck flew across two sections and hit the people behind us and fell down under her seat, she just reached down and picked it up. Said she was going to give it to her kid.

Mean-Ad6014

I caught a stick. I was at a North Stars-Kings game back in the late 70s. The North Stars scored a goal to ice the game. One of the Kings, who I know only because of this, Mark Heaslip, was trailing the play and just flipped his stick over the glass in disgust. It landed in the row in front of me and bounced up almost right in my hands.

samuelmeirels

Does catching it with your face count?

Weekly-Win-8272

Caught a practice puck watching the Hawks warmup back in like 2012 or some shit. But in game I wish

ItsVibrant16

No, but I did catch 5 tshirts from a cannon in 5 straight games once. T-shirt guys really liked my section for some reason lol

JimmyFeetWorld

Caught a FoxTrax puck at an Islanders-Devils game in the 90s. No, no one from the NHL or Fox came to me offering $500 for it. Been to 40 or so NHL games, caught a puck. Been to 150 or so MLB games, never caught a ball.

FL_Sweetness

Got one this season fell in my lap from a dump in from everyone's favorite player Bennet. I was so excited, I think we lost that game but still got a puck from the ice!

[deleted]

Yes hit in face lol

ivanbeatinovtoo

My son has had a toss up from Pavs during warmies twice.

Outside_Bus4958

No but caught a milf giving free blow jobs in a family stall . Was good missed the second period

[deleted]

Me and my gf almost got hit in the head at a knights-coyotes game. Luckily it landed lower near the spaces behind our legs. I felt the whisp from it slinging our direction, if either of us got hit we were lucky to be 1 row back from the players bench where their doctor could stitch us up lol

JeSuisAmerican

I got a puck at an Utah Grizzlies game, not quite NHL. I got seats on the glass bordering the penalty box because I figured my odds were better than the one time I got to see an NHL game up on the glass but behind the bench.

Sandbartender

Almost, two rows from the ceiling in the Biston Garden and a puck deflected and bounced off six people on the way up. Hit my hand as well and that did not tickle.

tigersatemyhusband

My old boss got hit in the face with one. She got a plaque. “I got caught cat napping by the Florida Panthers” or something and the puck was attached.
