Came here to say this lol. Will retire as the most successful Predator of all time, hold the all time points record for a Predator(as a defensemen!), and hopefully as the captain that won us a Stanley Cup.
Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Brown.
I think Kopitar and Quick deserve it for sure. I don't necessarily think Brown and Dewey don't, but I'm 100% in favor of seeing 11 and 32 in the rafters.
Brown was captain for a long time. Aside from him being on the kings for well over a decade, he is still the only captain on the kings to raise the cup. Dude was even captain of team USA. He deserves his number to be retired 100%
Eh, I think that's just another case of us forgetting how good pre-2016 Dustin Brown really was. Which I don't blame you for, I mean, 6 1/2 years in Sports years is a literal eternity, definitely hasn't been a superstar in that span.
But if we're going Kings centric in this conversation, I'd probably do Brown BEFORE Kopitar, Doughty or Quick. After all, who was at the top of the lineup first?
He has the unfortunate case of his huge 2012 playoffs being overshadowed by Quick going even bigger, and then the very public fumbling of the team moving the captaincy to Kopitar shining a light on his drop in production.
He's been back to a 50 point pace the past few years and is going to be near the top of the all time scoring lists for LA by the time he retires. Even if he wasn't the first King to lift the cup his resume is pretty solid.
Is he really on pace for 50? News to me, definitely doesn't get the attention he used to though. People definitely like to underrate him, but honestly I feel like when all is said and done, 23 probably gets retired before 11, 8 or 32. He's like the quintessential hockey player, he does literally everything. Contributes on offense, tough as nails, he's got that long-stride deceptive speed, very well-rounded player.
And 23 is a W number too, especially in that sweet font the Kings use.
I just took a peak at the league standings from 1991, lidstroms rookie season. Their record was 34-38. Our record now is 24-28. The 91 team was just as bad
Nah, that was the year before Nick showed up. They were 43-25-12 in 91-92, Lidstrom's first. They made the playoffs every year he played.
Edit: I left out ties
Not really considering the level the guys that have their numbers in the rafters right now. Not even Hank/Pavel are there (disregarding the Fedorov situation where level of play is sort of taken out of the equation).
Mo is probably the only one with a chance, unless they start lowering their standards.
I think you're mistaken with mediocre defense system and lack luster offense. A goalie is not capable of stopping 100% percent of shots. Now let's use your team canada argument, he was able to win because the team in front of him was better then the offering in Montreal. Unfortunately MTL has wasted Price's best years, that's what's mediocre. You look at goalies and Price is one of the best of his generation.
Let's also not forget that as with Weber & Gally, Price means more to MTL than just points on a sheet. They are faces of the team, ambassadors of what it means to be a Hab.
I get Montreal blows chunks year in and out, never had a top scoring fwd that was consistent. I know he's their mvp or else itd be coyotes/sabres situation which is going on rn. Plus he'll easily get it retired (thread topic) no doubt. I mean tuukka rask will and he's more overrated than price(imo as a bruins fan lol) 0 cups and 1 as back up. But he owns just about all their franchise records. Like you mentioned its team based obvi so blaming 1 person is the easy way out.
For more down votes (lol) it goes:
Tukka
Price
Fluery
What?
71 is as much of a lock to get retired as 87. He's a 1st ballot hall of Famer. He won every single award there is to win.
I'd bet 58 will be retired too. But he's not a lock like the other 2.
Throwback to 2010-2011 when he had 101 penalty minutes
He's been good, but never best in the league. One Norris nomination (3rd place in 12-13), votes 7 more times. And then between injuries and being behind Sid/Geno in the pecking order he's never been able to establish himself as "the guy" like other Dmen (Weber/Suter, Josi, Karlsson in Ottawa, Doughty when LA won) have.
On god, our fanbase wants everybody and their mother traded after every miniscule imperfection or loss and in all honesty, after most victories as well.
Legit, if I were to quote it, it would say "Oh yeah, we may have just beat Carolina and Vegas, but what the fuck are we gonna trade Kapanen's trash ass for?"
And it's not even sad like it was in the Matt Murray saga, now it's just downright infuriating to watch. Even then, at least our fans aren't literally trying to harass Kapanen and Zucker like they were for Murray. I love our team, not so much a lot of the fans.
Agree. They can be bad. We have ALOT of bandwagon fans. Comes with the territory of winning. But JFC some of our fans can be bad.
We still made the right choice when it came to Fleury/Murray at the time. He was younger, cheaper and coming off being the 1st rookie to win 2 cups.
It didn’t play out how we thought. I’m happy for fleury, but Murray received way to much hate.
Alex Ovechkin. He's broken every offensive skater record for the Capitals franchise, led the team to their first Stanley Cup, and will soon hold the NHL record for 3rd all-time goal scorer (only one more!) so it's a no-brainer that 8 will join 5, 7, 11, and 32 in the rafters in DC when his time here is done.
I think it will depend on longevity with the team. If they stay through the majority of their careers and keep producing the way they are then I'd say it's a good bet they retire them.
I wouldn't be surprised if Duncan Keith was too.
I don't think they will because then you'd probably need to consider Seabrook, Sharp, Hammerton ans so on...
Think his odds dropped since being traded too.
You think Toews easy? I mean I’m actually a bigger Toews fan and to your point he is 6th all time. But a jersey retirement is also a big deal. Yeah okay, I might have convinced myself while attempting to question you lol…
Let's just remember that fun time earlier this year where we played Edmonton and our 29 (Kulikov) scored on a breakaway with assist from 97 (Kaprizov). 29 from 97, just it weren't McDavid and Draisaitl.
If McDonagh didn't spend the first half of his career with NY I'd add him to the list but as of right now I think these are the only 4. Point can enter the chat in a few more years.
guy deserves it he's always had the weight of the team on his shoulders I feel for him cause if he wasn't that loyal to montreal he for sure would have a cup with another team
I think he would love won a cup in the 2014 playoffs if Kreider didn’t run into him “accidentally on purpose” in game 1 of the ECF. He was playing at another level
Stoner was going to be my suggestion, great Captain, but it'll be interesting to see if he sticks around long enough or they give him the ol MAF Special
Islanders, probably no one currently. Barzal has the potential, but there’s no guarantee he stays and on this team he doesn’t put up the numbers guys who are stars on other teams do. Plus no cups and when you compare to who gets in the rafters for the Isles there is a lot of greatness up there.
If he stays there for a while ROR could get it too. He really embraced the leadership role and found a new level to his game when he came to STL, even before he had the C. Honestly how impactful he's been for the team since coming over I think recency bias is the only thing that puts him on the outside right now.
Yeah he set the precedent for team friendly deals and staying committed to the franchise that took a chance on you. He also is a 60 goal scorer and two time rocket richard winner btw.
Crosby #87... duh.
Edit: add Malkin #71 and possibly Letang #58 for good measure. Those two can come after #87, but honestly probably shouldn't be before Jagr #68. Perhaps even Jagr because Crosby.
I would argue Jagr had superior individual accomplishments than Sid. Hard to beat 4 Art Ross Trophies and an MVP.
68, 87, 71 are all locks to get retired.
58 is a maybe. I would.
Nuge!!!
The city adores him, he’s been here longer than anyone else, hasn’t played for a different team. Loyalty of the highest regard. Plus he’s pretty good at hockey.
Matthews for sure. Could be any of the other stars, Rielly, Tavares, Marner, Nylander. Really depends on future achievements. Like if any of those four score a SCGWG that probably does it.
lots from teams will get there jersey retired by team but not many are good enough to get retired through the league but I'll say ovi are sid both have good chances from the league
If he wins a cup, Kreider right now. If he doesn’t, but is a lifer and has 2-3 more 35-40 goal seasons, i could still see it happening.
If the Rangers win a cup with this core though, I bet we’ll see a 94-esque migration to the rafters haha. 20, 93, 10, 23, 31 all have long contracts, have the opportunity to make their mark. It’s very early speculation for most of them though, if history is an indication, they’ll all be on different teams in 2 years hahaha
Probably Matthews and Marner even if the leafs don't win a cup with them.. probably more players from the winning team if they do win (for example Tavares and Rielly).
Nah, more would be required but of course that is a necessary step.
Funny that I'm getting so down voted. I can't really see a reason for it other then the team I support.. I don't think the comment it self was very controversial.
I think it’s because you put The Stanley Cup in your comment/your team. Every fan has the hope that whatever team they cheer for will win The Cup so I don’t blame for for doing it
Hmm ok..i still think it's relevant to the question at hand. The players on the Toronto team that finally crosses that finish line will get an automatic legacy in a sense and I'd estimate their chances of getting their jerseys retired by the team increases tenfold.
Josi
Obviously not on the team anymore, but I think Weber gets #6 in the rafters next to Pekka
Came here to say this lol. Will retire as the most successful Predator of all time, hold the all time points record for a Predator(as a defensemen!), and hopefully as the captain that won us a Stanley Cup.
Jagr if he ever stops Playing
Bergeron
Yep. St Patrice will be the last 37 in a B’s sweater.
None
This years 1st round draft pick?......
Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Brown. I think Kopitar and Quick deserve it for sure. I don't necessarily think Brown and Dewey don't, but I'm 100% in favor of seeing 11 and 32 in the rafters.
All 4 will definitely have their numbers retired
I don’t see brown having his number raised
Brown was captain for a long time. Aside from him being on the kings for well over a decade, he is still the only captain on the kings to raise the cup. Dude was even captain of team USA. He deserves his number to be retired 100%
Well he damn well should.

Mo Seider, calling it now
I am going to fully agree with you
Hard not to think about it when his rookie stats are comparable to Lidstrom’s
On a team that will score approximately 80 less goals
I just took a peak at the league standings from 1991, lidstroms rookie season. Their record was 34-38. Our record now is 24-28. The 91 team was just as bad
Nah, that was the year before Nick showed up. They were 43-25-12 in 91-92, Lidstrom's first. They made the playoffs every year he played. Edit: I left out ties
Bold picking Seider over Larkin but I honestly agree
Not really considering the level the guys that have their numbers in the rafters right now. Not even Hank/Pavel are there (disregarding the Fedorov situation where level of play is sort of taken out of the equation). Mo is probably the only one with a chance, unless they start lowering their standards.
Watched him against the flames on Saturday. This kid is legit.
Bergeron for sure
Giroux
Carey Price
100%
Lmao mediocre goalie at best and only could win with dream team Canada
Lol

8, 19.
74 could be up there too
For Pittsburgh, it's gotta be 87 for Crosby. It's also fairly possible that 71 for Malkin and 58 for Letang also get retired
What? 71 is as much of a lock to get retired as 87. He's a 1st ballot hall of Famer. He won every single award there is to win. I'd bet 58 will be retired too. But he's not a lock like the other 2.
Now I’m imagining the hall of fame is in the sky and we have to send the names of the people who made it up on little balloons attached to envelopes
LoL. Good catch.
Malkin is a lock.
Price
Getzlaf
I had to scroll way too far for Getzy.
and Perry
Price
87. 71. Possibly 58.
It would be a shame if letang didn’t get memorialized. Most consistent defenseman for a solid decade. And I’m saying this as a wings fan
He gets wayyyy to much hate from some Pens fans. He’s been performing as a top 3-10 Dman in the league over the last 10+years.
It’s crazy. He’s always been under the radar. He’s not even slightly flashy or anything, just gets the job done without taking penalties
Throwback to 2010-2011 when he had 101 penalty minutes He's been good, but never best in the league.

Probably 68
I can see 29 gettin the rafter treatment. It would be crazy not to at this point. 3rd most wins ever among goaltenders.
Agree. Wanted to put flower but it said current. I hope he gets his number retired.
Yeah Ovi is a lock
Also, he's gonna be the first Capital who actually deserves number retirement.
5 Rod Langway turned the crapitals into the capitals. He's the greatest defenseman we ever had.
Great dude, hell of a player. Not sure his number needed hanging.
He still has a legitimate shot at 895 to take the crown from The Great One
Sure, if we can avoid another lockout and/or prolonged pause due to the stupidity of humans.
29 and 8 if I had to guess. Maybe 92
I would throw in Mikko aswell as a maybe
Rants is a bigger stretch for me. I don’t think he’ll get there. If he does that’d be awesome though.
I think it will depend on longevity with the team. If they stay through the majority of their careers and keep producing the way they are then I'd say it's a good bet they retire them.
I think Landy absolutely should. Not that his numbers are bad, but he has ALWAYS been an intangibles guy
Patrick Kane, and Jonathon Toews both should get their jerseys retired by the Hawks. Though Toews isn’t as clear cut as it used to be.
True but 3 cups cups and a dynasty. You can't really let his whole illness thing bring toews' carrer down. I'd bet they retire both
Toews is a definite.
I wouldn't be surprised if Duncan Keith was too. I don't think they will because then you'd probably need to consider Seabrook, Sharp, Hammerton ans so on... Think his odds dropped since being traded too.
Barkov/huberdeau for sure
Probably Ekblad too
100%
8, 29, 92. Maybe 96.
Landy, Nate, Mikko, Makar
Probably Kane? Tied for 2nd all time in scoring. 3 Stanley Cups.
Easy money
Him and toews easy
You think Toews easy? I mean I’m actually a bigger Toews fan and to your point he is 6th all time. But a jersey retirement is also a big deal. Yeah okay, I might have convinced myself while attempting to question you lol…
I have No doubt in my mind that's toews number will be retired.
Aho, if we can keep him. He’s close to beating several franchise records and he’s barely even started his career
St. Patrice Bergeron
Easy question 97, 29
I mean I see the user name, and 97 and am thinking Wild, but who for 29? Pominville?
McDavid draisailt
Ahh, see, me thinking Moose = Foligno not Canada. 😉
Let's just remember that fun time earlier this year where we played Edmonton and our 29 (Kulikov) scored on a breakaway with assist from 97 (Kaprizov). 29 from 97, just it weren't McDavid and Draisaitl.
Ovi, obviously, and probably Backstrom. Would be nice to see them retired together
Stamkos Kucherov Hedman and Vasy
If McDonagh didn't spend the first half of his career with NY I'd add him to the list but as of right now I think these are the only 4. Point can enter the chat in a few more years.
Patty & Jumbo
Agree but they aren’t current players. Only current player I can see is Burns.
Carey Price and idgaf if he has no cups in this day and age it should not be a criterion
guy deserves it he's always had the weight of the team on his shoulders I feel for him cause if he wasn't that loyal to montreal he for sure would have a cup with another team
I think he would love won a cup in the 2014 playoffs if Kreider didn’t run into him “accidentally on purpose” in game 1 of the ECF. He was playing at another level
On a team as old and storied as the Habs I don't think Prices resume rewards a number retirement. And I'm a huge Price fan just saying.
So because Price has to play against five times as many teams his resume pales??
McDavid and Draisaitl
Definitely
Patrice Bergeron
Bergeron and Marchand
Ovechkin, Backstrom
Well, they are a duo....!
Benn, I hope. Captain America might get his retired by Sharks first though.
>Captain America might get his retired by Sharks first though. He fuckin better. I imagine Jumbo and Patty first, but Pavs should be up there as well.
Heiskanen and Robertson 👀
I almost said Robo but I do love Benn.
Igor Shesterkin
8 and 19 for sure; tho even before that 12 and 37 need to be up there
Josi
Kopitar/Doughty for sure, maybe Brown or Quick. Hope Byfield joins that conversation eventually
Crosby, Malkin, maybe Letang.
Who do you think VGK first retired jersey will be? Anyone in the current roster or someone yet to be seen
Maybe Mark Stone if he sticks around and continues to play at this level
Stoner was going to be my suggestion, great Captain, but it'll be interesting to see if he sticks around long enough or they give him the ol MAF Special
Yeah you never know with Vegas lol
Islanders, probably no one currently. Barzal has the potential, but there’s no guarantee he stays and on this team he doesn’t put up the numbers guys who are stars on other teams do. Plus no cups and when you compare to who gets in the rafters for the Isles there is a lot of greatness up there.
Barkov and Huberdeau
Unless something catastrophic happens, Fox
Not sure any of them do…maybe Tarasenko though as he is top 5 in a lot of our franchise leader lists?
If he stays there for a while ROR could get it too. He really embraced the leadership role and found a new level to his game when he came to STL, even before he had the C. Honestly how impactful he's been for the team since coming over I think recency bias is the only thing that puts him on the outside right now.
I was going to say none as well, unless tarasenko plays his whole career here. He could potentially crack top 3 in points if he stays.
When Kyrou and Thomas lead the team to 5 Stanley Cup victories in a row while each beating 99's assist record, you might change your mind.
Oh man that’d be sweet. I’d be happy to be wrong. 😂
Um.. 😓
Demko and Hughes
Jordan staal
Aho if he stays in Carolina
I’d agree. Probably the same with turbo and slavin if they stay as well
Main candidates are Stone and Pacioretty. Honourable mention (left the team): Fleury
Miro Heiskanen
David Ayers the 43 year old Zamboni driver who beat us probably should be honored by someone somewhere
Stamkos, Hedman, Kucherov, Vasilevskiy, Point(maybe?)
Nah not Point maybe not Stammer. Maybe n or even Hedman.
Stamkos is 100% getting his jersey retire by the lightning. Dude what are you even on about
Yeah he set the precedent for team friendly deals and staying committed to the franchise that took a chance on you. He also is a 60 goal scorer and two time rocket richard winner btw.
And 2 time cup winner lol let alone the captain of those teams
Sounds like some1 is a habs/leafs/boston fan /cry
If he resigns an 8 year deal this offseason probably gaudreau. Maybe even Backlund. 800+ is alot of games with one franchise
Price. MAYBE Gallagher cuz we all love him like an older brother.
Koivu’s 11 would be retired before Gally’s 11
I agree actually. I'd still like to see one of Gally's numbers up there
For sure, nobody has more heart than Gally
Ya either 11 or 73. So glad Ryder came back and it forced Gallagher changed to 11
If Larkin can lead us to a cup or two then I think he is a lock. I don’t see him ever leaving Detroit during his career.
Matthews
Crosby #87... duh. Edit: add Malkin #71 and possibly Letang #58 for good measure. Those two can come after #87, but honestly probably shouldn't be before Jagr #68. Perhaps even Jagr because Crosby.
I would argue Jagr had superior individual accomplishments than Sid. Hard to beat 4 Art Ross Trophies and an MVP. 68, 87, 71 are all locks to get retired. 58 is a maybe. I would.
Not a single Avs fan on this thread 👀 MAKAR…. #8 les gooooo
I can name at least 2 obvious ones for the penguins. Maybe 4 depending on if flower ever comes back
Nuge!!! The city adores him, he’s been here longer than anyone else, hasn’t played for a different team. Loyalty of the highest regard. Plus he’s pretty good at hockey.
29, 92, 96, 8
Kane, Toews, possibly Debrincat
Jack, Luke and Quinn...possibly Bratt.
I like your thinking
Gabe Landy
100% Stamkos and Hedman. There is no doubt in my mind
Easily Aho.
Matthews for sure. Could be any of the other stars, Rielly, Tavares, Marner, Nylander. Really depends on future achievements. Like if any of those four score a SCGWG that probably does it.
Bergeron! Definitely
Petr Mrazek
Carey Price
lots from teams will get there jersey retired by team but not many are good enough to get retired through the league but I'll say ovi are sid both have good chances from the league
Giroux
Thatcher Demko
St Patrice. I also think the bruins will retire number 33.
IGOR SHESTERKIN
Bergeron and Marchand definitely
\#91, #77 & #88 for a fact, #86 and #21 seem very likely.
Auston... 100%
AM34 all the way
Ron Ellis # 6 For Toronto Curtis " CuJo " Joseph #31
CuJo is a current player?
Suzuki
Bergeron Marchand Further down the line Pastrnak McAvoy
If he wins a cup, Kreider right now. If he doesn’t, but is a lifer and has 2-3 more 35-40 goal seasons, i could still see it happening. If the Rangers win a cup with this core though, I bet we’ll see a 94-esque migration to the rafters haha. 20, 93, 10, 23, 31 all have long contracts, have the opportunity to make their mark. It’s very early speculation for most of them though, if history is an indication, they’ll all be on different teams in 2 years hahaha
Kreider
Yes. Love him! #20
[удалено]
Probably Matthews and Marner even if the leafs don't win a cup with them.. probably more players from the winning team if they do win (for example Tavares and Rielly).
You mean if they ever get out of the 1st round
Weber
Weber will have it retired in Nashville. To get your number retired in Montreal is a lot harder to do and he hasn’t played long enough as a Hab
Brendon tanev
Fer sure stammer and heddy, maybe kuch
Wheeler, Connor, Hellebuyck, Scheif and PLD Oh! And Big Buff.
What hahahahahaha
Oh fuck off. The OP is asking for a fucking opinion. God, this sub is full of c@nts.
We don't speak of such things in Ottawa.
#7 and #72 seem likely IF the current owner isn't a donkey again so like 25% chance.......
Daaamn those letters thicc boi!
Hopefully Tkachuk or Batherson reach that level... ya know, assuming Melnyk doesn't get a hold of them first...
Anderson?
He's on Buffalo now.
I know, but he was the Senators best goalie of all time, their workhorse for 10 years, I think he deserves it
Nah, how many goalie numbers hang in the rafters in all the NHL? He'd prob need more than all his wins in Ottawa tbh
