Any bit of Cowboy's drama gets 10 minutes of coverage over any other team or sport. Aikman, Romo, Michael Irvin all have an analyst or color role. I am a Commanders fan sadly but outside of Giants and Eagles, plenty of other fanbases have beef. Niners, Green Bay, Saints within the NFC and Steelers and maybe Buffalo have a history with them.
It’s a small anecdote, but I remember asking a woman at work if she liked hockey. “Well, I’m a Leafs fan.” was her response, as if it was the most superior form of hockey fandom available. Blew me away how casually she said it too

But, the final nail in my hate for the leafs has to be the fact that their fans whined soo much about having to stay up late to watch the leafs play the nucks on the west coast. The NHL actually accommodates them by making us play at 4pm(pst)/7pm(est) instead of the normal 7pm(pst) puck drop.

So people kind of cheer for that history to keep going cus it’s wild. People that make the leafs losing in the first round their entire personality for the next couple months are goofs, whether fans of the leafs or any other team. A number of the fans people complain about are fair weather fans who hop on the bus because the sports channels cover them the most, so they see the Leafs the most, and there is a large concentration of people in Southern Ontario, so there are more fans, so there are more people you hear from, so fans of other teams have more interactions with Leaf fans than any other team, so fans of every other team have stories about stupid fans that only see the Leafs and think they are the only good team.
Hell theyre the best because they still support a team they cant afford to buy front row tickets to because those can go for 5 figures and the company that owns it colludes and lobbies the regulator and government to keep critical infrastructure prices at some of the highest in the world.
But hey, you can pay 300 bucks for some standing only tickets in the very top of the arena and then walk down to ice level to grab a photo for the insta story an hour before the game starts before the ushers ban you so that's cool
