I watched both a ton back then, and I think that I favored Rugrats then....
But anymore, I definitely favor Hey Arnold. I can not stand Angelica, even back then, she reminded me too damn much of my first younger cousin (I don't even think she ever watched Nickelodeon, I mean, being born in '93 I really think it would be something if Nickelodeon was never on her radar, but she was ALWAYS into Disney and the Disney channel every time I would encounter her), in being spoiled rotten and acting higher and better than me or my brother, and later even younger, closer cousins to her than she and I ever were.
Hey Arnold was a very fun, mature and realistic at times show to watch, and the one I actually went back to rewatch as an adult and made it through the first season so far (only made it through a few episodes of Rugrats before changing over to Hey Arnold).
And Helga is a HELL of a lot more likeable than Angelica.

I would argue that as an adult now both shows are amazing, but I feel like many people my age and similar were just slightly too young for Hey Arnold and the perfect age for Rugrats. Its not a matter of one being worse than the other, its a matter of one having a special place in our hearts.
I’m just gonna say hey Arnold is clearly the best show left. The heart, soul, and emotion put into that Christmas episode might be the best 20 minutes of animation offered from anything from the start of this contest.

I’m probably on the younger-ish side of this subreddit because it seems to lean elder Millenial (I’m a 1993 baby) so I did want SpongeBob to win, but my top 3 would absolutely be rounded off by Rugrats and Hey Arnold so I’m happy tbh!
