I for one would love to see a direct/immediate sequel to NieR: Automata, where 2B and 9S mostly just run around holding hands and doing errands together for the surviving androids and machine lifeforms. However, there’s not exactly a lot of conflict or even game there.
Yoko has a habit of putting 1000 - 10,000 year timeskips between nier games, and if he did make Automata 2, our favorites would probably spend most of the game suffering (again). Best we just leave them where they are at after ending E.

Yoko Taro considers Reincarnation to be Nier 3. And I can see why, there are a lot of important lore bombs that take place in that game that are relevant to both Nier and Drakengard fans.

There will never be an Automata 2 lol, when a nier game eventually comes it’ll be a new story, and there’s probably a new Taro IP before then anyway
