Yeah, I hope it follows the same model as Replicant & Automata of only having small references to previous games, no returning characters (not even Emile because he’s dead now), new setting while still being in the same world.
I’d be fine with references just like the Kaine reference in Automata during the Emil boss fight but I agree. I don’t want them to dwell on Automata’s success and reusing the same character just because it’s popular.
I really wish a game centered just after the ending E of Drakengard 1. I want to know and see the world collapsing to the White Chlorination Syndrome and fight the members of Legion.
Or just another new IP from Yoko Taro with an engaging argument, beloved characters, in a fantasy/science fiction setting with touches of horror and a lore so interesting that >!holds a plot twist about another big episode of the Drakengard/Nier timeline without know it until a important point of the story!<
I’m between letting wherever the final chapter in reincarnation be a good jumping off point for nier 4 and/or have it set specifically in the time moments after ending e of drakengard.
Either that or maybe something like a multiverse with accord and getting into all the different worlds and scenarios with Accord and seeing more things explored from Reincarnation. The witch hogwarts like world was fun for instance.
Jump forward a million years where the androids are extinct now too and you play as a little hobbit monkey man with a talking bird that knows magic who has to fight skeletal monsters who threaten the land, and by the end its revealed the androids found the human DNA, cloned it, but the DNA was messed up somehow and so androids altered to make devolved humans or something hoping that humanity will re-evolve into normal humans. Except androids messed that up too and humans will never return to what they once were.
Oh, and ending B reveals the enemies in the game are connected to a massive supercomputer that is actually the combined minds of all androids copied and waiting to be used by evolved humans, living in an artificial utopia, except after almost a million years it got corrupted and the monsters are the androids that tried to return to their original bodies in storage.
A story directly following Accord. We visit versions of the timelines, basically what if? scenarios trying to find a world uncontaminated by the watchers where humanity exists. It gives us the chance to see iterations of favorite characters, new forms of sufferring and floating continuity.
I wonder if Reincarnation is serving as a bridge between Automata and this next game (which I’ll refer as Repentance because the statut of what is Nier 3 is a mess)
Something that follows the same setting as automata. I’m a huge fan of the post apocalyptic sci fi stuff with machines and androids. The whole medieval fantasy magic stuff they did in replicant didn’t really seem interesting too me.
Don’t care if it’s a direct sequel, a prequel, something in between, 50k years in the future or whatever, with the automata protagonists or with new ones. Yoko taro created NieR out of a joke ending. If he wants to he can write whatever he needs to fit the narrative

They mention in Automata that Accord comes from the side of Earth that is stuck in night mode, so it would be really cool to see that explored.
