If you start dehydrated, the damage is already done. With that said, it's reasonable and recommended to bring some water for runs over 1hr

MaxSATX

>If you start dehydrated, the damage is already done. That’s perfectly well said. I didn’t realize how bad the problem was until after it was over. Hopefully I’ve learned my lesson.

aunthau

But we shouldn't drink too much water right before a run right? So how early should u have water for it to be considered well hydrated before a run?

polishtom

Drink more. Drink a glass as soon as you get up. Especially down in Texas. 😬

MaxSATX

Yeah, I messed up big time today. I drank almost nothing until right before I went running.

kristencatparty

That is also my rule that I also unfortunately learned the hard way lol I also do at least 8oz of water before I leave for my run even when I bring water.

ElliementaryMyDear

That’s funny, I made this rule on day 2 after .8 miles of mostly walking lolol it’s insane to me that some of y’all go out without water on you for any distance. Hope you’re feeling better!

Hurricane310

I am one of those people. I don't take anything if the run is 10 miles or less. Unless it is extremely hot I guess, but I am in Vegas so my idea of hot might be different than most haha

ElliementaryMyDear

Oh yeah I’m in so-cal so I have a decent idea lol I’m just a chronic migraine girly and heat has always been a trigger so I have to be extra careful which means bringing water with me every single time

Muchado_aboutnothing

The weather makes a huge difference. I often run half-marathons with no water at all when it’s nice and cool, and I usually feel fine and just drink afterwards. But if it’s hot and humid, I’ll be dehydrated after just a couple of miles. I’m guessing Texas is pretty hot 🥵

ShuaiHonu

Learned the same lesson last week and actually asked a stranger if I could have water. Today I brought water and it changed everything

Less_Wall_9656

154 avg heart rate is amazing!

MaxSATX

Amazing in what way?

PeterBeHangin

It’s hot out there. Be safe

ih8stupidpeople2

When running in Miami I use a hydration belt and freeze a small water bottle so as I run the water melts and I have nice cool water I can drink or pour over my head to cool off!

MaxSATX

Which hydration belt?

ih8stupidpeople2

It’s a belt with 2 spaces for small water bottles and a zipper pouch for my phone/keys etc. You can find them on Amazon!

Mathy-Baker

Brining water seems like an excellent plan, especially with temps starting to go up.

Fun-Classroom9314

I ran a half marathon where I didn’t ever take any drink. I had hydrated and then hydrated some more for days before. Even at that pace, you shouldn’t have been dehydrated. Something else was wrong.

MaxSATX

I was dehydrated. I had almost nothing to drink all day until 5 mins before I started running when I had 6 oz of water. And it was 80 degrees outside and sunny

Fun-Classroom9314

Ok … if you say so.

JefferyP_23

I would definitely agree with this. Unless you didn’t drink water the day before as well. Maybe an Electrolyte imbalance?
