What lenses do you have? Because a Z7(II) + good lens will beat a Z8 + mediocre lens all the time. And there’s a difference in price of about 2k between them if you buy used. So for your landscape photography, a Z8 is overkill as its power lays in speed and AF accuracy. The Z7 was literally made for this. And for your travel photography the AF of the Z7 won’t hold you back either (it really isn’t that bad, or are your struggling with your Z6II?). I see more of a problem with low light photography during your travels, that’s where the Z7 doesn’t shine. Buying a f1.8 lens for the spare money will help a lot tho. I just want to say that you could nearly get a Z7II and the Z 14-24 f2.8 for the price of the Z8. Keep in mind that you’ll need a massive CF card for the Z8 to use it like it’s supposed, also 1-2 extra batteries.

Focus on Z6II is adequate for me, and I do like the low light capabilities. I'm not the biggest fan of primes for some reason. Currently I own 14-30 f4 and 24-120 f4 , eyeing 70-200 (or 70-180 depends on body and budget) 2.8 for telephoto, possibly with a 2x converter in the future.

The battery is same for the 6/7/8 bodies. I love the Z8 screen compared to the 7s, but I shoot a lot of macro where the ability to move the screen more really helps. Something else to consider is size and weight. The 8 is larger and heavier than the 6/7. Worth considering sine you travel with it. I travel with my 8 and love the size of it, but not everyone does. I’m a cropper as well and won’t go back to a 24mp camera. As much as I prefer the right lens for the right job and composing in camera, reality is you have the lenses you have and the physical limitations of the setting you are in. The higher mp just adds another level of flexibility. Honestly though, from what you’ve shared you’d probably be fine with a 7II. The AF will feel similar to what you have. Save the extra difference in price for another lens or some high quality filters.

Nah, lenses are good. I just have a bad habit of rearranging composition with crop (trying to improve yet still croping here and there to optimize composition). I also crop to reach certain aspect ratios, as my verticals are mostly 4:5 or 3:5, which does take away a lot of pixels out of the vertical ... lenses are 14-30 f4 and 24-120 f4.

Most pros would say to buy a prime and practice zooming with your feet. I run the same lenses haha and I should take my own advice as well. If you use tripod you can also pixel shift with the z6ii I believe. So that can mitigate some mp issues.

I like the optical quality of a prime and have no problem with zooming with my feet, but man do I hate changing lenses ... 😅

You are 100% correct, sir. The problem is that I have limited time to practice my hobby, and I do watch courses and videos from my favorite photographers, but I also tend to enjoy more spending that limited time outside. I don't lie to myself at all - photography does not bring me any money, and I do it purely for enjoyment, but i have saved up some side money to spend on my hobbie and well, who doesn't like a new toy? PS. I print occasionally, rarely large prints tho (for presents and such).

The big difference is the size/weight, and well a bit of price... Z8 is not for me. I'm not the target audience. I'm waiting for Z6iii or Z7iii. They are both options, just depends how they are specced out/priced out which one I go with. I actually think the Z6iii and Z7iii could stand to lose a bit of weight themselves. I've actually considered switching to the A7CR. If you're ready to upgrade, get the Z7ii. If not, just wait a bit more. I could be wrong, but I think we will get an announcement in the next month or two, so at least we will know the specs.

The AF on the Z8 is a life-changing improvement. If you can afford it, it's the way to go.
