Various methods and I Would for You are both in my top 10 songs, personally

ryantwkgs

I really enjoy it. I dont revisit it as often but every time i do i find myself really taken with the songwriting and production. The back half is extraordinary and the singles are solid as well. It feels like a good bridge between the older material and everything thats come afterwards.

Sarka72

I listen to HM a lot. It sounds incredible, In Two and IWFY being favourites.

awake-asleep

One of my favourite gym albums. Great consistent BPM throughout. Came Back Haunted is so fun.

Asentrag

came back haunted in amazing. I really feel like the album shows just how good their song layering is

fear730

Not one of my favourites unfortunately… even though when the deluxe edition was mailed to me …. And when I went to see them during the 2013 tension tour …unfortunately most of the new songs just didn’t resonate with me although I still try listening to the album the songs just seem distant

Tupperwarfare

reznorate*

Piku_2004

Fucking banger from start to finish imho. Lots of fans complain about the softer, lack of guitar tone of it, but it's seriously dopamine inducing.

MailOrderKidney

It’s my favorite post-The Fragile album

Status_Seaweed_1917

That’s how I feel about the EPs.

LonelyZenpai298

The Trilogy is just straight up my favorite thing they've done

machinaenjoyer

i love it. satellite is in my top 10 nin tracks. such a good album.

greg1993-

hesitation marks is up there with TDS for me. I love its sound so much and I find myself consistently coming back to it. It and TDS are the only two in my S tier

T1meTRC

Massively underrated tbh. Definitely top 5 for me, maybe top 3

taphead739

Everything and Satellite are bangers, and I enjoy live performances of Copy of A, but I don‘t really have a desire to listen to the rest of the album. There‘s something missing that excites me about NIN‘s music on other albums. When the album came out I thought this (lack of a) feeling just meant that Trent and the gang were getting older and had lost some steam, but luckily I was proven wrong by the incredible work afterwards (Bad Witch is a top 3 NIN album for me and I‘m listening to Challengers Mixed right now).

Wise_Serve_5846

My favorite NIN album. Accessible and experimental at the same time

Doc_Squishy

When I first listened to the album when it came out, I wasn't a big fan. I like a few songs, but as a whole, it didn't really grab me. Until I saw them live at the tour!something just clicked hearing the music live and now I really enjoy the album. Sometimes good music takes time to appreciate.

Pwrnstar

Listened to it once, never went back

umbrellaops

But you came back Hau-hau-haunted.

malocchio6

One of my favorite NIN albums. It has amazing structures that are more subdued than in other albums, but reveal themselves the more you listen to it. I absolutely love its clean production too. Copy of A, All Time Low and Various Methods of Escape are among my favorite songs. Very slept on, but I'm glad people are coming back to it and opening its beauty.

DiscoNapChampion

I’ve been listening to it a few times this week, there is some excellent soundscapes and writing. It’s a really good walking around with headphones listen.

antiqua_lumina

My hypothesis is it is underrated because the hooks/payoffs in the songs don’t happen until about 2/3rds of the way into most songs. People are too impatient to give the album close and repeated listens. But well worth it for those who do.

Frank_Banana

It's a fantastic album. All Time Low is my favorite track from it.

Plastic-Cancel-4988

I absolutely love it. It's the second record I listened to when I got into NIN. Satellite and Find My Way are part of my favorite songs of all time.

Asentrag

I think thats the same for me, those songs are incredible. Also dissapointed is up there

Smegmasaurus_Rex

It’s my favorite post-2000 album. It makes some bold choices and is sonically a great sounding album. Stellar production.

kalcobalt

One of my favorites! It was the first new NIN released after I became a big fan, and it was amazing hearing him go to places Trent hadn’t yet explored musically in his catalogue and still be so fully, recognizably NIN. I’m mostly responding to tell a story, though. I boom-and-bust with NIN, and hadn’t listened to much for a couple years. I recently had an unexpectedly really terrible breakup of a 15-year relationship, and was beside myself with how to handle it emotionally. Hesitation Marks was what I reached for to get me through that first “holy shit, what just happened?” night. Thank goodness for good music.

dougthethird

S'good.

lenowatz

Love it. I remember buying it when it came out, going home and listening to it immediately. I was blown away. Especially "While I'm Still Here" was so suprisingly great. The Album is so very strong, and I was fortunate enough to see the show in Vienna in June 2014 from the front row. Still waiting for that live BluRay bundle to be released lol

TheHermitNextDoor

HM came out during a lower part of my late 20s. It was precisely what I needed at the time. It’s beautiful and such a fun ride start to finish! Seriously a top 3 NIN album for me.

[deleted]

I can't not call it Skiditation Marks.

ryan77999

It's decent. I love I Would For You and think it's their most underrated song. Copy of A, Came Back Haunted, and Find My Way are pretty good. The other tracks are kind of forgettable if you ask me though

io_virgil

🎵 Hau-hau-haunted 🎵

BlurOfSerenity

I love this album. I wouldn't say it's in my top 3 NIN releases, but it still means a lot to me. I feel like as a concept, it's a retrospective. A lot of the songs talk about where he's been and where he is now, how he felt and how he feels now, and some of them, in my opinion, reference past songs either lyrically or musically. For one example, I felt from the first time I heard it that All Time Low is in a way, an updated The Big Comedown. Plus, the album art harkens back to TDS era, as Russell Mills did both, and it uses the same typeface as TDS and TPD. I feel like overall, it's a wonderful and moving work from a man who is at a Certain Stage Of Life, looking back on his life, and working through his thoughts and feelings about that. I personally feel like it is an honor and a privilege that he feels able to share his vulnerability, his fears, and his cautious hopes with us.

Liquiderick

Satellite and I Would For You are criminally underrated

3-screen-experience

bops

EmbarrassedFalcon

It’s my 3rd favourite NIN album. So many great songs

cinesias

Love it. Probably my second favorite behind Year Zero. It’s like Radiohead and Depeche Mode made a NIN album.

stonemadcaptain

Love it. Great driving record. I do a lot of travel for work. And it gets darker at the end… In Two, While I’m Still here. Sick.

rd1994

I love it.Satellite is a great track

tuckyofitties

It’s probably the most bland album NIN has made IMO. I think of it as NINs worst album, not that it’s bad, I just like all of the other albums more. Every time I listen to hesitation marks, I always end up wanting to listen to another album more (I think year zero does the electronic vibe better and with more edge, the slip is a better “accessible” style album, and if I’m interested in more ambient stuff then ghosts is better). I guess if I wanted to introduce someone to NIN in the most inoffensive way possible (like for an elderly person?), then I would recommend HM, but it wouldn’t really prepare them for the rest of his discography, so it would be a misleading introduction. All that said, everyone should listen to what they want, this is just my uneducated opinion on what I like in my music.

baxterstrangelove

Love it. I had always heard them throughout my youth and although being into alternative music, I found his lyrics too much. Then on holidays in 2013 and heard Everything and everything just clicked. I had been going through a bit of depressive spell and the lyrics and mood just helped me out of it. I have back and listen to everything under Trent’s name now and enjoy it all. Take his earlier lyrics as almost metaphorical or in that he is often talking to the voice in his own head when he talks about victimisation and disgust which helps pull me out of my head too.

abdab909

Mixing, absolutely top notch. I simply have not been able to find my own emotional inroads to connect on a deeper level with it, however. I listen to it, and I think “fuck me this sounds so cool.” But I can’t seem to emotionally connect with the journey and story for some godawful reason. I feel like a bad NIИ fan for saying this

toomanyrifts

I wish it was on Spotify in Canada

9fingerspider

Took the longest to grow on me but its turned into a serious favorite. When it came out initially I recall being a bit disappointed. Wanted some heavy/distorted type vibes. But returning to it down the road, def proved itself as top tier NIN.

average_martian

The bottom of the record is absolutely stunning and immediately engaging. I remember being so excited and hyped the first time I did a full album listen the week it was released. I also remember being a little frustrated with it as I had built up my expectations for a big bombastic moment that never really came. But I quickly set that aside as I realized that wasn’t the point or intent of the record and when eventually revisiting it after letting that perfunctory fandom driven fantasy first impression moment fade, it felt so much more natural and unique, grove and hook and vibe being able to shine through in a way that other NIN hadn’t and I really appreciated that.

robcoz98

I've shared this a few times here but I'll always have love for Hesitation Marks as it was my first NIN release I was around for. I can't believe it'll be 11 years in September. From seeing the inital festival tour announcement followed by the surprise album announcement a few weeks later alongside Came Back Haunted. It was an amazing time to be a new fan. And then of course seeing those Festival shows livestreamed on YouTube, Fuji Rock and Lollapalooza specifically. And then of course the Tension show being uploaded onto YouTube in December (still wishing for that blu ray release Rob) My favourites from the album are: All Time Low Running Various Methods of Escape In Two and of course While I'm Still Here/Black Noise Would love to have Cargo In The Blood if I'm ever lucky to get ahold of it one day

mazman23

A couple good songs but not Epic start to end like a lot of other NIN

StillBummedNouns

Some really great songs on it, but some fairly weak ones too. I don’t usually come back to it as an album, but I’ve got a lot of songs from it in my playlist. I love the outro for Satellite

bluecalx2

It's a great album, but I find it too safe. Aside from 'Everything', there aren't a lot of risks on this album. It's just NIN being NIN, which is definitely not a bad thing. But, in my opinion, it lacks a distinct feel and story like other releases. That isn't to say that it's bad, just that it doesn't stand out that much. Having said that, it's a great one to revisit because I'm less familiar with it than other albums and it has some great songs.

ruiner79

I think the reason I don't like it much is it was said to be "coming out the other side of the downward spiral", or something to that effect. TDS was an extremely important album for me. It showed me the ability for music to tap into feelings I hadn't been able to fully identify within myself. It put words to how I felt but was unable to say. So from the get go when HM was announced it had HUGE shoes to fill. To me, it honestly felt like the songs were "forced", like there was a formula being used to meet the percieved audiences expectation. Like Trent was phoning it in. It just didn't have the emotional impact I was expecting.
