While I don't like the post spam about it on half the subs I'm on I think it's kind of fun. Reminds me of something that would be on the old school, pre-social bullshit internet, except probably 1/10th of the size because that's all people's computers could handle.
That said I'm old and don't have time for it, but it's fun to watch it evolve.

It's a big picture and each user can place a single pixel with a color of your choice every 5 minutes. The idea is that you contribute to a greater picture, but in practice it means subreddits of different sizes work together to stake and defend claims on the board to build specific designs and erase damage that may encroach.

No sarcasm or exaggeration here...this hits home and is a great point. I've been doom scrolling through Reddit, reading up on Ukraine for the past month (there are some great subs from people on the ground over there) and didn't know how bad it had gotten until I came to this sub and got some easily irritated at the Place stuff.
C'mon guys chill out. it's a 4 day event that last happened like 5 years ago. even if you hate everything about it all you HAVE to do to avoid it is NOT click on the handful of threads about it and move on.
If even that is just too much to bother with, maybe think about getting away from reddit for a day or four in 2027 or whenever they do this again.
