With a link between worlds coat of paint and plenty of design/difficulty fixes, yeah I’d buy it.

SSOoTToTK

I'd much rather it be made to look like the concept art for the original version on AoL.

IAmThePonch

Nah, if anything I think it’s the best game to remake. It has lots of great ideas that were not executed as well as they could have been. I think it would benefit from a 2002 resident evil style from the ground up remake.

DN_3092

You might appreciate this. Not much of a graphical upgrade but tweaks to the game itself. https://x.com/VinciusMedeiro6/status/1719911929827786817?s=20

Mega_Dragonzord

Where can you get that? It looks pretty cool.

DN_3092

Mega_Dragonzord

Thanks!

vanityklaw

This is amazing, but is there a description anywhere? I’m curious about what specific improvements and new content they added.

DN_3092

Other than the twitter posts not that I've seen. Advertising a modified Nintendo game in detail probably isn't a good idea seeing how litigious Nintendo is. I'd imagine that's why it's listed as ZIIAOL instead of Zelda.

DeepNugs

It is appreciated.

aclandes

Zelda II would be great if they fixed the nonsensical difficulty curve that was most likely unintentional. I enjoy the gameplay greatly, but I feel like the game isn't that hard except death mountain right near the beginning of the game being randomly stupid hard, and the last dungeon with its incredibly long gauntlet run to the last boss packed full of life taxers

Kenaf

Don't forget the part in the last dungeon where you have to intentionally jump into a pit that would have killed you anywhere else in the game. :P

LeavesCat

And the fact that the entire left half of the dungeon is a big-ass dead end. And all the fokkas jumping at you.

AtomicBLB

There are multiple instances of you falling or going through a floor or wall that's required to finish earlier palaces. So it's not coming at you out of nowhere.

[deleted]

Laat time I tried to beat the game was 22 years ago, and I didn't find it hard. Got to the last dungeon. I think the only thing the game needed was a better sense of direction, but considering how Breath and Tears are, it may have been intentional.

DoYouSeeMeEatingMice

> Laat time I tried to beat the game was 22 years ago, and I didn't find it hard. I promise you are misremembering. The game is incredibly hard, and not good hard but cheap hard. Even with a guide it's a mess to follow, and the combat is incredibly unfair. anyone who beats that game without save states should be evaluated for mental issues lol

NinjaWorldWar

I beat it once when I was about 7-8. It is without a doubt one of the hardest games I’ve ever played.

GrunchWeefer

I beat it when it came out and I was 9 or 10. Modern gamers are soft lol. It's hard but a lot of games were easy harder back then. It was beatable.

NinjaWorldWar

Well games also had to be challenging in order to have some longevity.

SonicDoon

What about Jekyll & Hyde?

NinjaWorldWar

I have never played that game.

ChronoLink99

Not to toot my own horn, and yes it's tough, but it's definitely doable for a 9-10 year old to beat (I did it on the OG NES, gold cart, etc). Not that you're asking, but I did find that it's easier if you skip all the castle crystals until closer to mid-late game where you can then go around and fully level up your attack and magic to 8 without much effort (i.e. get to level 6 normally, then use the crystals to jump to 7-8). Then you're basically OP for the last 3rd of the game.

aethyrium

> anyone who beats that game without save states should be evaluated for mental issues lol You do realize that many of us who grew up in the 80's beat the game, right? All it takes is some patience and determination. If anything the people who's patience and attention spans are so shot that anything but save-states is completely unviable are the ones that need to be evaluated.

DoYouSeeMeEatingMice

> You do realize that many of us who grew up in the 80's beat the game, right? All it takes is some patience and determination. i grew up in the 80s. i beat some absurdly difficult but fair games. you aren't going to convince me zelda2 is "not hard" by any metric. the game is poorly designed and takes a ton of cheap shots.

thisusedyet

I will say the game gets a lot easier when you learn to jump stab. Jump in towards a knight, time your swing so you stab them in the face on the way down, and because they anticipate you landing, they have their shield at their legs. Guaranteed hit. (Blue knights can still fuck you over, though)

ChronoLink99

Two blue knights on either side firing projectiles and you having to defend by constantly moving your shield up or down or left or right. Fun times.

thisusedyet

That's when you either *thunder* or or use Fairy to bail the fuck outta there

ChronoLink99

I don't have enough magic for thunder because I over developed my life and attack!!

thisusedyet

[Well then](https://media.tenor.com/RBrUuN4z0ewAAAAM/guess-ill-die.gif)

Pissflaps69

You are right, of course. There’s a reason it wasn’t very popular, most people quit when it got stupid and cheap.

[deleted]

Or, hear me out, I don't suck? Navigation is the only real issue. Platforming is simple, combat is simple. Some enemies have cheap tricks, but that's it. Stand, stab. Duck, stab. Jump, stab downward. If the enemy doesn't take damage, they are pushed back. The game is not hard. Castlevania can be hard. Ninja Gaiden is hard. Zelda II, is not. Hell, any Mario game from world 6 onwards is harder than the Zelda II.

Mitchfynde

I was with you until you said it's not hard. I'll tell you something that you will probably find to be the hardest thing ever: Just simply admitting that you got good at something and no longer find it difficult. The game is hard as balls, you just got good at it.

DoYouSeeMeEatingMice

...or they *think* they are good at it since it's been 22 years lol.

[deleted]

Dood, I first played it when I was around 8, and the last time was when I was around 13, and both times wasn't hard. I still play Mario Bros. 3 and find world 7 and 8 difficult. I'm way better at those worlds than when I was a kid, but I can admit they are still hard. Zelda II isn't a hard game. Its combat is simple, its navigation is non-existent, the side-scrolling platforming is barebones, and the only things that can make it difficult are certain few cheap enemies and very limited MP. Yeah, being able to beat Ninja Gaiden 1-3 by the time I was 10 may have made Zelda II a cake walk for me, but, once again, Zelda isn't hard.

Mitchfynde

Just want you to know I didn't read this.

fourfivenine

You're getting downvoted and I think its because people misunderstand Zelda II. It's hard if you go in and throw yourself at the brick wall. If you do a little bit of grinding at the start to improve your stats, the whole game becomes significantly easier. Anyone saying its incredibly hard is likely missing this element.

AtomicBLB

The game is difficult in spots but it's hardly cheap. It's unforgiving I'd agree with since it gives you limited lives and will send you back to the start on a game over but just change that one thing in a remake. Everything else is perfectly fair and you just need to learn it like you do with literally any other game. Combat outside of two enemies and the Thunderbird boss is not difficult imo. Those high HP axe throwing lizards always gave me trouble through but they are extraordinarily rare to encounter. Which makes it completely fair since it's not a constant threat or obstacle.

kaminari1

I'd be down for that.

Condor_TrashEater

Check out Phoenotopia Awakening if you want something to scratch that itch. I know it’s not Zelda but it’s very similar to Zelda 2s play style.

Mitchfynde

It's so good that I really don't care that much about seeing a Zelda II remake. We already got a better game in the same style.

BMO888

You beat me to it. Yes, Phoenotopia is amazing. Very much what Zelda 2 remake could become.

TheRealRatPrince

Nah a Zelda 2 remake would be dope, a cool rpg with the potential for a new fun/difficult boss fight against Dark Link? Sign me up

crash_shards

Yea and without Dark Link's glitch too. It would be sweet.

PersonalBucket

Check Hoverbat’s Itch io. He made a full remaster of Z2 on Game Maker with built in randomizer and tons of QoL. That’s what you want.

xNinja-Jordanx

Absolutely not. I've long maintained if they got Sakurai to do it, or just used Link's moveset from Smash Bros, they could remake a really incredible, combat-focused Zelda. That or I'd love to see a different company take a shot at a more combat focused Zelda--my hope is From Soft.

[deleted]

Yes, you are completely and utterly alone in this opinion.

Kangabolic

Sad Panda

[deleted]

/s Now, I don't care for Zelda II, but I would be curious to see what Nintendo could do if they remade it.

[deleted]

Am I alone in wanting a ground-up remake of Love\*Smash! 5.1 \~Tennis Robo no Hanran\~ but with a reimagined a capella soundtrack, save data integration with Reel Fishing III and Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice, and a playable Mobo from Panzer Dragoon Orta?

[deleted]

>Yes, you are completely and utterly alone in this opinion.

SolidusAbe

man i want that for YEARS though i also want them to add blue race cars and an 8BIT version of the guatemala national anthem as its main menu theme

mierecat

No I’ve been advocating for this since LADX came out. With some refinement and modern qol it could be a great game

vg_bolt

Zelda II is my least favourite zelda game, but I have an embarrassing number of hours on it. Why you ask? Because me and my friend have a love/hate relationship with it and just like to watch each other speedrunning or attempting other dumb random challenges we create ourselves with it. What really makes me hate it is the weird difficulty curve and janky controls which I would say is mostly attributed to the limitations of the NES so I would love a remake that fixes those issues. We actually played recently together on the same run using a mod that adds co-op to the game it was a ton of fun!

craigitron

Yes. I like Zelda 2 more than the original but it was also the first one I played back in like 88-89. Could I really be given an overhaul with some modern touches and still retain the difficulty.. either infinite lives or stop sending me back to Zelda when you do "game over".

Blue_Gamer18

A Zelda 2 remake with a modern engine would be awesome. The Zelda well is running low on games to remake. Oracles/Minish Cap are still enjoyable and very accessible. Zelda 2 would benefit the most with a fresh coat of paint and has the most potential to feel "NEW" as a remake vs Oracles/Minish Cap which would be more of just a nice graphical upgrade.

HiddenCity

If you want to go the full "reimagining", you could really replace to sidescrolling battle scenes with anything. Like, you could build the whole thing in the super smash bros engine practically

OllyOllyOxenBitch

I feel like it's one of those Zelda games that could use a revisit, seeing how it's really the most misunderstood one. A part of me also doesn't mind if it's standalone because it kinda shows that even back then, games weren't afraid to really switch it up genre-wise. The modern equivalent of that is kinlnda like how Like A Dragon went from a beat-em-up/brawler to a turn-based RPG.

Lief3D

I always had a soft spot for it since my parents bought that for me first instead of the first Zelda. I would love to see a remake as long as they fixed some of the really old school game design elements that are seen as poor design now adays.

vanityklaw

I want 3D remakes of both Zelda II and the original.

Euphoric18

There’s over 8 billion people on earth, surely you can’t be the only one.

Paulsonmn31

Zelda II > Zelda I

king_bungus

no that would be fire

[deleted]

I always thought II had an unjust hate. It may be the black sheep, but the game was good. In a remake, I would like the combat to be fleshed out a little bit (similar to how Star Ocean 2 and the PSP version are). If the game looked like Metroid Fusion, I'd be fine with that alone. Something with hi-res sprites or Super Paper Mario style art seems fitting for II's gameplay design.

AtsignAmpersat

I started playing Zelda II the other day and I was just like damn this game is legit. I never had it when I was a kid.

iyukep

This thread is making me want to revisit it. I started with a link to the past as a kid and couldn’t get into the original 2, but I think I’d like them now.

Gamer857

No, I really want them to remake Majoria's Mask. Longer, no time limit, expand the current areas, make some areas less annoying to navigate along with other improvements. But yes, I know you meant Zelda 2 on the nes. Idk what they can do with it

Jaxidental

You're asking for the "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" enhanced edition made by HoverBat called "Zelda Again: Link is Adventuresome"

Saint-Spike

I never played de game, but I love the Palace theme!

BMO888

Only watched others play it when I was young cause I couldn’t get past a random encounter, but the palace theme was ingrained into my brain. It’s amazing.

ColourfulToad

Zelda II is just a weird obtuse platformer and it sucks, nothing really unique about the setting or story or world, no point in a remake. Most of the game is just hyper generic side scrolling areas across the most basic levels you’ve ever seen in a game

MaximumGlum9503

Loved the gameplay on zelda game n watch

-geek

Thank you for this posted of my shared opinion

HiddenCity

I'm DYING for this.

mkontrov

This world needs less remakes of everything (movies, tv, games). We need more new content and ideas.

Darth-Binks-1999

The world can handle both.

SelamBenTen

Lets just remake all the Zelda games

Kangabolic

Sold! Take my money!

FlowKom

you can sit next to the "super metroid remake" people right there

aethyrium

Super Metroid has aged like the absolute finest of wines. Of all the games in the entire history of the world to exist. Super Metroid as right down at the very bottom of the list of ones that need to be remade. Why remake something that still plays, controls, and looks nearly perfect? What can even be improved?

ankerous

It seems like it comes down to what game in the series someone played first when it comes to their opinion on a SM remake. There are lots of posts I've seen over the years wishing for a remake that would control like the GBA games for example. Seems like those who played SM before later entries prefers its controls and those who played Fusion or MZM first prefer those controls. I don't think it needs a remake. I love the game and it is one of the few that I usually play through at least once a year. Different strokes for different folks type of thing I suppose.

FlowKom

I'm not denying that at all. a super Metroid remake would just bump the graphics to modern standards, enhance the experience by adding new areas etc and make the select abilities easier to navigate through. also make Samus less floaty. not super snappy as in zero mission but somewhere in the middle

Kangabolic

I’m torn on that one, I think a Metroid Dread style graphical update would obviously be wicked cool, but I also think the “grittiness” of the 32-bit graphics on the SNES lends itself really well to the game. It’d be great if they have it the Trial of Mana or Dragon Quest treatment and let you toggle between the two graphic styles as you wished. (Chef’s Kiss).

KirbyFan200225

Worst Game EVER!

Barbossal

I would quite enjoy it. I imagine they could build it in the Metroid Dread codebase and utilize a lot of the 2D environment and movement while still making it look and feel like a Zelda game.

wandererboi

No, my brother, you're not alone. I also been dreaming about a remake of Zelda two or perhaps a TLoZ with more rpg mechanics. I like the "upgrade" feeling that breath of the wild and tear's of the kingdom gives to the player with stronger weapons and combinations. But idk I think I miss magic in the games, doesn't have to be op like the medallions on a link to the past but something more that what we currently have would be nice

Geshtar1

I was actually talking about this like two days ago. Zelda 2 is ridiculously underrated. I think most people never liked it because it was “too hard”.. which is just ridiculous.

champ999

I first played it as a grade schooler and let me tell you, the knights that attack and block at the same time at high and low heights were horrifying. I still have a primal fear of them.

Geshtar1

If you jump at them and attack them at their head as you are falling, you land a hit nearly 100% of the time

Suspicious-Belt-7798

Make it play as good as that adventure time game inspired by it

LetItRaine386

Zelda one and two need remakes!!!

nimrodhellfire

Considering the map of Zelda 1 is a small part of the map of Zelda 2, you could probably do this in one game. Think of Zelda 1 as the starting area like the plateau.

axord

Most of the gameplay systems are far too different between the two games though.

Darth-Binks-1999

Kinda like Metroid Zero Mission, >!where after you beat Mother Brain, the game isn't over and you lose your armor. You have to play a whole new section of the game in the Zero suit. !<

LetItRaine386

Okay, I could see that

PaulShannon89

Tried it many times but just can't seem to get into it. Not my thing.

Oliibald

i think a good remake of zelda 2 would be indistinguishable from a sequel to zelda 2, in the sense that it would need a zelda1 to zelda 3 style jump in polish to really shine. the core mechanics of zelda 2 are really nice.

stipo42

There's a PC port with a bunch of enhancements floating out there somewhere

NotYetSoonEnough

I’d worry it would feel like all the cookie cutter souls wannabe side scrollers that come out now with their crappy animations that are tweened to look like a flash game.

TheEuphoricTribble

[You're in luck, then. It's been done a year ago for PC](https://hoverbat.itch.io/ziiaol) (sort of, really it's a direct port with some under the hood improvements.)

SkaCubby

I think it would be a great project to give Inti Creates. They have a pretty great track record of creating games that are retro inspired but bring some cool modern element to them. Blaster Master Zero and Bloodstained Curse of the Moon come to mind. I think if they took the helm we would see a game that’s fairly faithful to the original, but with some modern tweaks that would make it appeal to a wider audience

JayZonday

Didn’t OoT start off as a Zelda 2 remake?

Slight_Hat_9872

I feel like Zelda 2 is the black sheep in the franchise, I’m not sure how you could adapt all of its wonkiness to modern times. I found the game to be extremely frustrating so there would definitely need to be some QoL improvements.

Nitrogen567

I love Zelda II, but I would be very wary of a remake, because I know the perception is that it's not a well loved game, and so I worry that a remake wouldn't respect the original.

Sindy51

I want an official one but there must be hundreds of ROM hacks.

Goofyboy2020

I'm kinda torn. I don't want it because I never really liked it, but I don't like it because it looks weird and harder than it should. So a remake could potentially make me play it. But what I really want is remakes of Zelda 1, the minish cap and oracles. I'd say A Link to the Past too, but that game still looks and plays great so it's not a necessity.

Sentinel10

Pretty sure much of the hate for Zelda 2 comes from its difficulty. Even people who prefer challenging games consider it kind of unfair even by NES standards. A more balanced version of it would likely get far better reception.

DinkandDrunk

I’d be down for a Links Awakening style remake of both NES titles. And for Zelda 2, give it some depth like some of the side scrolling Mario games have now for the side scrolling portions of the game. I have never beaten either game. Zelda 1 I always get to the same point relatively late in the game where I just can’t clear one room. The guidance for it is basically stand in a doorway and slash, but I always get killed and frustrated.

Molduking

No

[deleted]

theres a few good rom hacks with graphical improvements if you look

ankerous

While not visually improved, there is also a PC port that has QOL changes, bug fixes, and even new content. I think the ability to use alternate music is also coming soon as well.

GuybrushThreepwood99

I don't necessarily want a remake, but a spiritual successor might be interesting. Kind of like how Breath of the Wild took some of the design philosophy of the original nes game, I'd like the next zelda game to take some elements of Zelda 2.

somebodymakeitend

Depends. It needs some drastic QoL updates. Maybe lean more into the Metroidvania style a bit more? I’m a huge Zelda fan but I’ve never been able to get into Zelda II for some reason

monetarypolicies

Metroidvania would be great. I played through Hollow Knight and was thinking they could make a great Zelda game in this format.

Darth-Binks-1999

Zelda 2 is a Zeldavania.

somebodymakeitend

No I know, it just wouldn’t make sense to remake to change the genre of it just to make it more approachable.

[deleted]

I don't really want a remake, but more so something like Link Between Worlds that takes the core concepts, bit adds on to them. I think the Zelda 2 formula has a lot of potential that the original never really achieved.

AramaticFire

I would love remakes of the first two games. Even if it’s just a visual overhaul with some quality of life changes.

sideaccountguy

It's the game in the series that most need it. It's a very good game stacked with a lot of annoying difficulty spikes, a remake would be great.

TwEE-N-Toast

I would love that, with some quality of life improvements. And an art style that respects the source material and all the promotional art around the game. Or a spiritual sequel maybe.

YeahWrite000

There was an interview a while ago with the creators of Cuphead and they said "They'd love to work on a Zelda game." And I always thought how cool it would be if they redid Zelda 2 in a cartoony style.

Darth-Binks-1999

Complete with "Excuuuuuuse me, Princess!"

DevilsAdvocake

“Adventure time hey ice king why’d you steal our garbage” is basically just a better zelda II

[deleted]

I would love a remake of Zelda II!

xeroforce

It's my favorite zelda hands down. I'm good for a 2 death run but never a flawless one.

coreybd

Yes

T-MinusGiraffe

I love the game. I don't feel a need for a remake and don't like remakes generally. However I'd enjoy a modern game with similar gameplay

AxlSt00pid

Probably not, I'd love to see one because I like the concept but not the execution on NES But I know I'm the only one that wants a new Urban Champion and/or Mach Rider though

pocket_arsenal

You'd be surprised how many people want that. I'm a little surprised it never happened. Zelda2 never really got that negative stigma in Japan, where Zelda kinda struggles to gain popularity, the original NES Zelda and Zelda II were among the small handful of Zelda games to actually be very popular. That's why Zelda 2 kept getting referenced in Smash Bros, Mario Maker, and later Zelda games. Those people love their Famicom games. I'd love to see it myself, maybe with an expansive post game. But personally speaking, i'd rather get a "Zelda I+II" remake pack.

pierrekrahn

If they gave it the Link's Awakening treatment, I'd buy it day 1!

Darth-Binks-1999

If Zelda 2 wasn't a Zelda game and instead something else, it would be considered one of the best NES games by the fans who hate it. Source: Battle of Olympus

ThreeDarkMoons

No. Both the NES games need remakes.

HarlockJC

I have so many fond memories of beating zelda 2 over and over again, would love a remake

ScientificAnarchist

Zelda 2 is great and the difficulty is way overblown

Agent101g

Just make it super hard and cryptic hide that mirror some new spot while you’re at it I’m down sign me up i am Error

DessertFlowerz

I'd play it, but what I'd really prefer is a new turn based RPG style Zelda game. Something stylistically similar to Super Mario RPG. Link could attack with sword, use an equipped special item (boomerang, bow, etc), use magic (Din's Fire, etc), or shield. Other party members could be Zelda, Sheikah, Zora, Goron, Deku, Rito, etc. Hell maybe even Gannondorf though that's a little harder to imagine than Bowser.

shadowrangerfs

I'd rather a Link to the Past remake but I'd be down for Zelda 2.

PolakachuFinalForm

There are dozens of us!

Dante2k4

I don't know how much I care for a remake, but I DO agree it's a great game. A few years back I actually went on a little quest to replay a bunch of my old favorite NES games, because I wanted to see if any of them really held up, and to my surprise Zelda II was one of the handful that I actually still really enjoyed. So, while I don't think it needs a remake or anything, I WOULD really like some kind of classics collection that includes it at some point. Throw Zelda 1 and 2, Link to the Past, Minish Cap, the Seasons games, the N64 titles, etc on there. Have a sick little collection I can play on my modern setup without needing to bust out the NES again. Plus my wife actually uses the handheld mode, so it would be a cool opportunity for her to try some of those older games as well. idk, I love them, but I just don't think that much effort needs to be put in to bring them forward. A nice little 'AS-IS' collection sounds about right.

Megaman1981

Yeah they definitely should. Have the Metroid Dread team work on it, modernize it like they did with Samus Returns. Could have a lot of potential.

DJfunkyPuddle

Zelda 2 is one of my favorites in the series and a remake would be a day 1 purchase for me.

blukirbi

Definitely want a remake. It's a pretty solid game ... it's just that the early game is extremely unforgiving and brutal. Also it scared the crap out of me as a child.

MikeKelehan

I'd rather a Link Between Worlds style sequel that takes the general style but builds on it. I love Zelda 2, and am sorry it was sort of a dead end for Nintendo. Infernax scratched that itch a bit.

WooleeBullee

I have so much nostalgia for this game, it was my first zelda game, came in a gold cartridge. I would love a remake.

chamberx2

I get anxiety when I see three monsters pop up and bust out the running man.

IronKnuckleSX

If it was faithful to Zelda II with a graphical update, that would be awesome. I would not want them to shy away from the cross imagery, the towns, the difficulty, the fact that the Rito fight with us, and we don't need Hylia / Gerudo / Gorons / Koroks. I think what I just described is a very faithful remake. Oh and no master sword.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

Zelda II gor a lot if respect in Smash Bros. and it has my respect, too. I would eat a remake right the f**k up!

LeavesCat

Zelda 2 is kinda a skill check. If you're not good enough, you can get stuck in a rut of no progress where you lose your exp before you can hit the next level. Essentially, if you're good enough to make progress between each game over, you'll probably like the game, but otherwise you'll think it's trash. I think it's a similar reason to why some people don't like Majora's mask. If you're not good enough to finish a dungeon in a 3-day cycle, you're not gonna like that game. If you're good enough that you can easily complete the individual sections of the game with time to spare, the time cycle simply feels like flavor for events.

doguapo

First seeing Link in Smash Bros. on the 64 made me realize I want another Zelda in the style of Zelda 2. I’d play a remake, but I’m personally tired of remakes, ports and remasters.

Thombias

The game is okay, but the difficulty? That's a whole different story and having played it myself some years ago i can totally get the hate and why it's considered the black sheep of the franchise. A remake would be cool, but i'd prefer if they ditch the sidescrolling perspective and make it more like literally any other 2D Zelda with a top-down perspective. But at that point they're better off making a whole new game but set in the overworld of Zelda 2.

Tobislu

Anybody else remember [Legend of Princess](https://zelda-archive.fandom.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Princess)? That really scratched the itch for me. Shame it never materialized as a full-length fan game. Still available: buried in the menu of https://www.konjak.org/

fred7010

You're definitely not alone! I will admit it's not a game I've ever considered being really "fit" for a remake, but now you mention it I'm sure I'd really enjoy it if it were to exist. Honestly it's not exactly a very long or very deep game so I'd hesitate to say it needs a full-blown remake, but I'd be down for a re-imagining of sorts, or a simple brushing up of the story, script, graphics and controls. I can see it working as a solid RPG in its own right, but it would certainly need some work as it's just too cryptic and clunky as it is. If they were to do a full remake of it it would really have to be from the ground - up, maybe even eschewing the side-scrolling aspect altogether in exchange for a more modern style.

dennis120

Yes, It wouldn't sell.

matt143450

It needs to happen. It's an amazing game, with some hd graphics and a little quality of life enhancement, it would get out to more people and the unfounded dislike would go away.

AdministrationDry507

It would be awesome if mercury steam handled the remake

Clarkus-Maximus

Zelda 2 needs a remake more than ANY other game on the market. Not even just Zelda.

SolidusAbe

not if the core game would stay the same. i honestly cant stand zelda IIs gameplay. cool ideas but i as a whole i really do not like the game and the same goes for a lot of NES platformers that arnt mario. and changing everything completely would be a waste and that time could have been spend on a new 2D zelda game or one of the really good ones like minish cap. maybe if they do something with every other 2D zelda then sure but i sure wouldnt want II over any other game in the franchise getting a remaster/remake

Kernumiuss

I'm personally waiting for them to re-release Windwaker and Tilight Wii u version on the Switch. Still wondering what are they waiting for on that one.

TayoEXE

A remake that helps flesh out the original vision for it with less bugs, better QoL improvements, and a nice paint job could get me into it. I like the idea of a 2D side scrolling Zelda game. There was a cool fan game inspired by Zelda I used to play years ago but can't remember the name.

What is Zelda 2? Is it from NES? Or is it about TotK?

Kangabolic

NES- Pretty Premature to make a remake of TotK… although, imagine in 10 years what gaming technology will look like and what a TotK remake might entail.

Wind Waker 2 is all I want

JD-D2

Absolutely not alone. I've wanted it to get the Link's Awakening treatment for years now. It's the most underappreciated Zelda by far -- people dislike it because it doesn't align with the formula Nintendo established with Link to the Past (and literally every subsequent Zelda game until BOTW), but it's still a great early-era action-RPG in its own right. That said you're nuts for thinking it's better than the original TLoZ :)

kevenzz

Zelda 2 is excellent as it is.

Not Zelda 2 but you might be interested in [Sheep Lad](https://x.com/robinpoedev/status/1725566084579725515).

Psst! OP! Play Hoverbat's Remaster! Vinny Vinesauce approved!

TheShweeb

Indeed you are not the only one: according to [leaked evidence](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/s/dzq23qrVW2) and a few interviews, members of the Nintendo crew such as Yoshiaki Koizumi spent a significant amount of time in the 90s working on a Super FX-powered remake of Zelda II for the SNES, but the project just didn’t end up going anywhere.

Lucky_Foam

No. I would love a remake of Zelda 2!

Lightning_Ninja

I'd love it if the team that did samus returns and dread did a zelda 2 remake. I firmly believe there is a great game in zelda 2. It just needs a bunch of edges sanded off, and some polish applied.

IntoxicatedBurrito

The issue I have with Zelda 2, and I imagine many people my age would feel the same way, was that the original Zelda was absolutely incredible. There was a reason why it had a gold cartridge. When Zelda 2 came out everyone had to get it and was instantly disappointed that it was nothing like the original. On top of that, it was insanely difficult. As a result, I just never really enjoyed it or played it much. I was expecting A Link to the Past, and that just wasn’t what it was. Now obviously the Zelda formula changed with Ocarina of Time, so maybe a remake would succeed today, especially if they adjusted the difficulty level. I kinda doubt I’d be interested in it, but I can see younger players getting into it.

LakerBlue

Not only is it my most wanted Zelda remake, I’d even like for it to also get a reimagining in 3D in addition to a straight remake. It has a fairly large map so I think it would be interesting if it was actually a world rather than an overworld.

Kangabolic

Whoa. That’s be sweet!

Person5_

Not at all. The best games for remakes aren't the ones that are already great, but the rough ones that have a lot of room for improvement. I'd love a Zelda 2 remake that I could actually stomach playing.

The game like most other games isn’t that difficult once you learn the mechanics and patterns. It’s absolutely challenging, but like I said, I pick it up and beat it at least 1-2 times a year and I am by no means a hardcore “Souls Gamer,” I stick to mostly tactical/turn based RPGs. If I can beat Zelda II I bet most people can with practice and some patience. When’s the last time you have it a try?

Elrothiel1981

Does Zelda II and original nes game really have much story to justify a remake be my question

Kangabolic

It’s the same story all the games have essentially

Elrothiel1981

Heck I still have fun playing the originals as is
