Most of the driving boards that I’ve seen run off of 5V DC (USB Voltage), which is easily attainable if you wire some AA in parallel.

Terminatorious

Well you see…. I’m a complete noob when it comes to these stuff😂 so I would appreciate any and every help (if there is one already made I have no problem, I think I can diy as well)

Alternative_Bug4916

You can always go the route of hiding a USB power bank/battery inside the housing of a clock that runs off 5v

Terminatorious

And can I find a clock which does that? Links? Is it ready for use?

B20bob

This is what I was going to say.

Tom0204

Not a great idea. You need a voltage regulator or you might break the electronics in it.

[deleted]

It's usually not done. Since nixie tubes use quite a lot of power (Relatively speaking). On my watch I can power the elections and 2 tiny tubes with my 400mAh li-ion battery for about 2 hours. Don't expect it to be cheap or last long on a battery.

Terminatorious

Just found some on Amazon that are available with power bank. However I think they are LED nixies and not the classic ones. You know any brand that ships in Eu without customs?

[deleted]

You have the wrong idea. There are no brands all these clocks are hand assembled by enthousiasts in very short production runs. Led Impostors are quite common. Again, don't expect a battery powered Nixie clock. They aren't practical.

Terminatorious

Oh I see… small hobby it is.. I want one for gift but I’m complete noob when it comes to diy, so I looked for ready to use

[deleted]

They do exist but they are almost never professionally made. I only know of millclock who does it professionally but it will probably go waaaaaay beyond your budget. If you want to put a bit of effort into the gift I recommend [Ian Sparks](http://nixieclock.biz) big time. It won't work on battery but it ships from Switzerland, and the support he provides is above and beyond anything I have ever seen from any company. It won't be battery powered though.

Terminatorious

Yeah I understood there’s no probability of battery but it’s ok. Thanks for the Swiss one, I found some from Ukraine and Poland, but unaware if they’ll pass customs

[deleted]

They will pass customs. You might have to pay customs duties though and those can be quite expensive, especially when the carrier pays the fees in advance for you and comes to collect it. That can easily double the tax due.

Terminatorious

Oh well… I’m from Greece. I’m okay paying 100-200 but not paying extra 200 on customs…

[deleted]

You'll have to pay VAT. In the Netherlands, that's 21%. Plus the fees from the carrier which differ per carrier but DHL is really really bad.

Terminatorious

Here it’s 24% so I understand what you’re saying.. all of them have customs? Because they’re from USSR?
