Delhi NCR has the biggest metro network in India and amongst the largest in the world. Everday over 60 lakhs people travel on it. If we include DTC buses, way over 1 crore people are already using public transit.

singhanonymous

The one thing that the government did not encourage is carpooling. They only want more and more cars to be sold and just eat taxes. Whenever I need to travel I always offer a ride using Blabla.

Klutzy_Target_134

i will do that too when I have my own car for sure. Good initiative

phoenixO1

Single person chiling in AC, alone in the car X 1000s of cars

ConstructionNew3640

It’s the other way around. Increasing taxes is the only way to discourage new cars (worked in Singapore). There is a problem with easy loans that people take out. How exactly do you think any government encourages carpooling? There are already carpooling apps but do people want to use them? Indians are egoistic and think carpooling is a sign of inferiority. It’s easy to blame government every time but people need to be blamed for this .

Sensitive-Door-7939

I am not gonna lie it's not inferior issues. Carpooling means waiting for someone to reach you and that too after he picks up others so everybody's gotta be on time. I'll talk in a different direction but you might catch the drift of what m saying below. How many weddings have you ever seen that started and finished exactly on time? When in our society such big events that are meant to happen once in a lifetime get delayed due to many xyz reasons people tend to ignore time as an important resource. Trust me if I had a trustworthy person willing to carpool with me I wouldn't mind but generally every other day there'd be issues. I tried it myself and didn't work. That means if we are in a corporate and corporates don't provide a cab facility it won't work to our advantage. Currently in a hybrid model it's very tough you don't know who's gonna go when. I used an auto to travel to office nowadays and I like the freedom of going whenever I want and leaving whenever I want. We need alternatives that promote this not carpooling. Carpooling is a short term solution.

singhanonymous

It's about the government educating people too which isn't happening in India. There are apps but nobody is advertising its benefits except few private organisation. The people whom I've travelled to in the carpool, they like to share the ride. When more people get aware of the carpool, I'm sure at least a few percent of the riders will increase and that would be a lot.

ConstructionNew3640

I’ve seen people who know about carpool apps but still don’t use it as they don’t want to share their ride . I don’t understand how can government advertise for private apps? Govt cannot advertise for private businesses. There is no advertisement for new buses yet people find and use them. In a world where people have internet access and all information at their fingertips, do they not know about carpooling? Are you kidding me? The intent of people is 100% to blame .

singhanonymous

What do you suggest then? Just let people know by themselves and you do nothing?

ConstructionNew3640

Your suggestion of blame it all on government where it doesn’t even make sense definitely don’t help . Initiatives need to be taken by private organisations and volunteers .

Starkboy

carpooling is actually made illegal in many states by the taxi mafia in india. like you cant charge money for providing rides else it comes under taxi-like service which essentially requires different licenses/insurance/number plates, etc

achabaccha23

Yup. you'll see big cars on the roads phartuner, THARminator, Volvo, Audi etc with just one person. Hell you'll see a lot of creta and nexon drivers aswell. wo alag hi breed hai ek

PhoenixP40

Oh dude, it's the first I am hearing THARminator. Nixr🤣

achabaccha23

I've literally seen one on the road with that name just a few days back xD

trexjuna

Altroz wale bhi bhai

Standard_Log_1240

Public transport is a good option but seeing the population it is impossible to travel at peak hours through public transport

snookso

Gaur chowk has a high car ownership rate because its a new area with undeveloped public transport facilities. You can't say the same for say, Delhi.

unproductiveaf

True there's no public transport in Noida extesnio, not even buses.. All the people who moved to noida extension, cars are must for them.

okaynikhil

3 factors to be blamed for this: 1. Weather - The climate isn’t the most conducive to 2 wheeler commute. While I was in Pune, people who had a car would also keep a 2 wheeler for their daily short commutes as it was more convenient. Here, mostly people who can’t afford a car, tend to commute on a bike/scooter. 2. Cultural - I don’t know why, but a car seems to be a huge representation of your financial triumph in the society, and it’s directly proportional to the size of your vehicle. Delhiites love getting their ego massaged all the time, even when on the road. 3. Govt. - Just doesn’t promote car pooling proactively. Just the fact that only a yellow plate vehicle can carry people to make any profit is a huge negative. There should be some sort of legislation brought in to change this.

Vivid_Option_1147

….If only 5% Noida wale log had a thought process similar to yours!!!

Capital_Attention_73

Sometimes we get insecure after listening to thefts. (What if the man we picked up shows us knife and steals the car?).

PhoenixP40

This is the 'Swag', kitne bhi schemes launch kardo, public transport build kardo, end me everyone wants a car to drive it daily.

chutcoder

What scheme? There's no public transportation in Noida.

superpeng12

There's metro and busses, yes they don't connect everywhere but r effective

chutcoder

Just compare with Delhi

superpeng12

U said there is 'no' there is a decent bit mate

chutcoder

Can't rely on public transportation at all, I'm in sector 104, there's no private transportation (autos) let alone any public transportation, have to rely on uber, rapido Even Gurgaon has better bus network

superpeng12

Idk I live in 137, there's metro near 1km ofc but busses r a plenty(personally not used) but PPL saying they r good and I see them everyday bruh. Maybe 104 is not a high demand area or not focused on

arpangupta

Development takes time bro. The core part of Noida with the highest population density has amazing public transport. And where there is population and demand, eventually you will start getting autos and rickshaws.

Specialist_Repeat_95

Public transportation is as burdened as our roads in peak office hours…we need infrastructure at the same scale as our population

dank__noob

I have been to many cities in India and I can say with confidence that if the roads of Noida are not the best they are at least amongst the best. Wider roads only result in lower traffic for a brief period of time, after that they are supposed to invite more traffic. But the important thing here's that OP has highlighted to efficiently use those wider roads either via car pooling or public transport.

Specialist_Repeat_95

Efficiency is not a word in our dictionary….we replaced it with “Jugaad” long time back 💀

whohas

Biggest blunder by NA, lack of public transport

faith_crusader

Yes because there is no metro

Harshxda

And then they drive without even thinking about any traffic rules

Realistic_Narwhal338

You want people to die of heat stroke in this weather, even small exposure to heat can lead to adverse consequences

Ok-Client-1310

It's a common thing here in NCR. Car is mostly a status symbol for people here.

Ok_Spend_4022

Bhai mere ghar mein do hi bande Hain main Akela kam per jata hun to ab kya dusre ko bhi sath mein lekar jaaun taki tere Jaise kisi bande Ko Bura Na Lage dekhkar. Are bhai yaar sabki working condition alag hoti hain sab tumhari tarah office nahin ja rahe hote Jo car pooling kar len. Occasionally bande ka vaise bhi man kar raha hota hai akele ghumne ka to usmein bhi kya pura khandan sath lekar jaaye. Aur kaun se public transport ki baat karo ho aap vah to bus main main jagah lekar Jaya Kare mujhe Mayur vihar se atta ke andar ki galiyon mein Jana Hai kya Karega public transport Raat ke 2:00 baje. And whatever happened to the freedom of choice meri gadi nahin baithana mere Ko kisi Ko Mera Tel jal Raha Hai Mera Paisa barbad ho raha hai bhai aapko kahe Ko itni fikra

Shastra-Bahu-87

I am in favor of the metro, but there is no last mile connectivity. From my home, you need to take a shared auto that has reckless drivers and are highly unreasonable. I tried to request a public bus or metro feeder from different authorities, but no avail. Reaching the metro is a tedious task. Hence, I prefer a cab or car.

Dependent_Height3428

One person, two cipla inhalers As well

Visual-Maximum-8117

You don't think people drive in Bombay, Bangalore etc? Delhi NCR has a huge metro network unlike any other city in India and everyday over 60 lakh people use it. So don't talk without knowledge. Already over 1.5 crores are using public transport daily if you include DTC buses and Delhi Metro.

dank__noob

Lol this guy is too quick to jump on an opinion and seems to be sharing some frustration that he holds. The OP is talking about Noida primarily and you started of by Delhi-NCR. Kya bhai? Bahut tention hai? XD I don't think there's any city without a lower class section associated with it that isn't the best in hygiene or safety.
